Oh gosh, Mommy. I am so sorry to hear this. Sending an enormous hug your way!
-
KB8, yes, I need to keep things slowed down. Last night, I zonked out in the recliner about 8 pm and slept there until I went to bed at 11:00 (one of those things when you are too tired to even get up and get ready to go to bed!).
-
Took my little solitary stroll this morning and breakfasted with the WWW ladies. A cold front has come through and it feels fabulous to turn off the AC, open the windows and let fresh air in!
-
Mommy, so sorry to read of your recurrence and sending you a big hug too. I had my closest partner in Pink Pilates email this morning that her mammo and biopsy yesterday did reveal that she too has recurrence and will have her right breast removed now as well. She and I had initial diagnosis in 2012 with same staging and well, she is now part of the 30%~sigh (gwad, I hate cancer). Anyway, Ruth, another terrific WWW photo and rain (and wind) is slamming it down as I type. Looking and feeling more like November than August 2nd - summer here is so iffy. This is my 3 class day, in from Pilates with groceries for my guy's dinner - dog check and now off to Folkestone to balance bodies and Pilates. Go KB870!
-
((M0mmy)) sorry to hear of recurrence. Sending good thoughts back East to CT!
90 mins gym tonight, last personal training session. Club manager sent a nice e-mail congratulating me on the progress I've made (in one month I've lost nearly ten pounds and am down a pant size) and offering a 20% discount on future sessions. Thinking about it...
Gorgeous mountain pic, HeidiHill. I worked with kettlebells tonight and thought of you. :-)
-
Wow, that is awesome, Badger!
-
Thanks, Ruth! I would like to lose another ten but it'll come off slower now because of building up muscle.
-
Mommy so sorry to hear of your recurrence, sending you a big (((HUG))). Badger that is wonderful, you really have embraced the gym life. Ruth glad you are on the mend but yes take it easy, slow wins the race. Heidi what gorgeous scenery those mountains are truly spectacular and definately on my bucket list. Nats you should be glad you're not here this week, yes it was hot when you were here but now it's monsoon like conditions not only hot but humid, I went to the gym tonight just to get some nice cool air conditioning. But this weather has been making for some spectacular sunsets - tonight's was amazing
Gym tonight was Grit Strength and Body Pump
-
Lovely photo Cheryl! Good going badger on dropping 10lbs and making lean muscle; terrific for one month!
OMG, do I really want one.. https://shapescale.com/#
-
Beautiful, Cheryl!
Badger, it's the clothes size that tells the story. You can 'weigh' more if it's muscle and be in totally better shape than if you lost 10 pounds without shaping it up.
Lilac, that scale looks incredible; although the people in the video are on a whole different fitness journey than me!
We actually had some rain yesterday (the first time since the middle of June) and it's supposed to be in the 70s the rest of the week....heavenly walking weather!
-
Got my first bit of exercise this morning since the port was placed on Monday. Walked to Dunkin Donuts to get an unsweetened iced tea. Trying to cut back on my morning consumption of coffee to one cup.
-
Take heart, now they're saying that coffee is good for you!
-
I heard that too and during the weekend I usually have 2 cups.
-
This is from the Huffington Post:
For so many years I've had clients tell me they want to quit coffee, because they've heard that it's "bad for you." And for just as long I've been wondering when we can finally stop demonizing this delicious beverage. My stance on coffee is: moderation, moderation, moderation. There are great reasons to drink coffee, but like anything else, it matters how much and what kind you drink. Recent research offers good reasons to reconsider coffee, and some tips for being a responsible coffee consumer.
There's recent research to show that caffeine is an excellent scavenger of free radicals, which damage cells and cause disease. Potentially by sweeping these up, coffee seems to be beneficial for a host of health concerns, including cardiovascular disease, gastro-intestinal disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases, and to be associated with lower mortality overall. Here again the ideal amount seems to be around two to three cups of coffee per day.
The effects of caffeine on memory have also recently been studied, with researchers concluding that caffeine can help us with formation of long-term memories. Even the energy-inducing part of coffee — which of course has a downside in the nervousness and insomnia it can cause — can have potential upsides in its effect on exercise performance and endurance (though it should not be abused as a stimulant!).
Those are all great reasons to drink coffee — in moderation! Again, these studies are finding two to three cups per day to be the right range. Not 10 cups. As a Peruvian, two cups sounds to me like the right amount. In Peru we enjoy a cup of coffee with a meal, at breakfast or after Almuerzo (bigger meal of the day, lunch). Coffee is part of our larger enjoyment of our food and conversation, and we savor it. I love to have a coffee that way. But if you are relying on coffee entirely to get through your day, so that you need to drink five or six cups just to function, then you are not enjoying it anymore, and you are getting into a range where it is no longer a health benefit. In fact, it's just propping up your lack of life balance. You need at that point to sleep more, stress less, eat better, and yes, cut back on the caffeine.
Coffee is also no longer a healthy choice if it's loaded with sugar (see a recent research review in the New York Times arguing that sugar is worse for you than artificial sweetener!). If you are drinking giant coffee "milkshakes" full of sugar, flavored syrups, whipped cream, and who knows what else, then the health hazards will outweigh the benefits. It's not just the many calories in such drinks, it's that they get most of those calories from cane sugar and high-fructose corn syrup (and milk fats). Such simple sugars are associated with a host of metabolic disorders, and increasingly are being questioned as a point of origin for cardiovascular disease and other devastating health conditions. Cutting back on sugar is imperative, so if your coffee is mostly a vehicle for refined sugars, that is a problem. Instead, try to develop a taste for the coffee itself, and for responsibly farmed beans. Like chocolate, coffee is a healthy choice when it's bitter, dark, and dense. The lighter, sweeter, and fluffier it becomes, the more adulterated it is, and the less pure its healthy effects.

Go for the extra coffee, Mommy! You need treats right now as you contemplate another round of chemo. I am sorry about the recurrence. However, the two friends of mine who did have a local recurrence are just fine now. Just the worst, and no, you didn't need it.
I need milk or cream with coffee though or it's rough on me. I often add sugar, if I am dragging. (Which I expect to be later as up against a major deadline tomorrow.)
I would love your rain, Ruth. Not just hot here, but really hazy with the acrid smell from the smoke of the BC wildfires. I can't wait for the wind to shift.
I am planning on doing the lavender ride on Saturday, but may downsize if the air is that thick and do the family ride which cuts out the hills. We shall see. I suspect I will make that decision when I hit the course.
On the cooking front, it's salads this week. I think a Salade Niçoise today. It's also time for my Gravad Lax recipe. Salmon is on sale and I have amazing dill that I need to use. Super simple to make and delicious.
Just delightful now though....early AM and mid 60s. My place stays cool even without AC.
And the sunsets have been glorious!!!! - Claire

Thanks for the advice girls. I've had so many people tell me it's bad for me to have coffee and that I will end up with migraines. I've had them and one of the things that help them go away is a cup of coffee.
Giving myself a pat on the back as I got the bathroom all cleaned and squared away. Tomorrow is hubby's laundry! Trying to get back on a weekend schedule to do the laundry seeing my treatments are going to mess with my housecleaning schedule.
-
Mommy - I'm so sorry about the recurrence - I think you should drink as much coffee and eat as much pizza as you want right now. There's a time and place for everything. Badger - congrats on the pants size decrease. Cheryl - beautiful picture. You all aren't used to humidity - hang in there. Ruth - glad you were able to meet your WWW for breakfast - that's the best part anyway I bet. You'll be back walking with them before you know it.
I'm finally tackling those last boxes we didn't get a chance to go through when we downsized a few years ago - we were really good about getting rid of stuff and got through about 95% of our stuff, but just ran out of time to get through those last boxes. It's been a productive morning. I already have a pile of stuff for the transfer station, and I just sent off a bunch of pix to the local consignment shop to see if they want to consign some of the more valuable items. I have a lot of 60's era stuff and a few antique things I inherited so hopefully I can make a few $$$. Hot dusty work in the garage - heading off to shower now.
-
M0mmy, sorry to hear about your recurrence. Wish you all the best with your treatment, and it looks like you're already on the move!
Did some upper body weights yesterday and a yoga session. Had my first Zometa infusion today, expecting to feel sick, so here comes my rest day(s). Apparently it's good to give body a one-week rest every few months, so this might be it.
-
(((mommy)))
I did 45 minutes of laps in the pool today, and did the grocery shopping. Given how hot it is here and the fact that they are remodeling my regular grocery store (meaning I had to walk around it four times to find all the stuff they'd moved to new locations) the shopping felt like more work!
-
Plan of the day for tomorrow is hubby's laundry. Trying to get back to doing laundry on a weekend schedule
-
MOmmyof2- so sorry to read about the reoccurrence! Sounds like you have a plan to keep your life in order! Hugs to you! Sending good vibes and prayers -♡
-
Thanks Varga. My goal is to try and accomplish at least one or two bits of housework a day to keep me as active as I can while I get used to the chemo again and see how it's going to affect me. Had to hang laundry up in the house today it's overcast outside and I don't think the sun is going to make an appearance 😭
-
I think that is very smart, Mommy. I have always thought that the more 'normal' I could keep my life during difficult times, the better.
More walking today for me. I am still feeling 'jiggled up' enough that I'm not yet missing my other exercises. I have a big, time consuming research/writing project that I am going to force myself to start TODAY!
-
Yep. Going go throw the last load of hubby's laundry on my drying racks and then onto the dishes.
-
40 minute dreadmill run. A friend is coming to the cabin this weekend and bringing her homemade coconut cream pie so thought I'd better burn some calories while I could
-
Octo why oh why do they keep remodeling our grocery stores, you get used to where everything is then for weeks you wander round and around trying to find things - and they seem to do it at Target more than anywhere else, it's like a fun game they play on us. Mommy just do what you can while you feel good and rest up when your body needs it, and if the dust bunnies move in then just give them names and welcome them to the family Ruth glad you are listening to your body. Booked my flights to England last night, so excited I'm definitely going to try and take a class with LilacBlue as long as she doesn't laugh at me
Wednesday night did my Grit/Body Pump combo class then last night did Body Step.
-
Great pix everyone especially that sunset Cheryl. Yay for plane tix! I know that LB won't laugh at you because you didn't laugh at me when Eduardo d*mn near killed me. This is the "after" pic (HB Cheryl, Ruthbru, _Ann_, badger, and Eduardo). Note Ruth is fresh as a daisy LOL.
Off work today for car app't. Took advantage and got in a nice long workout: 40 treadmill, 30 weights, and 20 mins yoga cool-down and stretch. Signed up for five more training sessions but only paid for four with the discount. I do pretty well on my own but am still a newbie. LB, they don't have a ShapeScale but do have an InBody machine. Cool technology that provides body composition analysis and history.
-
I am all aglow in the picture because I had just gotten to exercise with a gorgeous guy named Eduardo as my instructor ........it's the same look I get when thinking about homemade pie......yum Mary on the coconut cream! A friend brought me a homemade Key Lime Pie on Tuesday and there were ZERO pieces left by Thursday....of the six pieces, I ate four!)
Oh my goodness, lucky Cheryl to go to England and take a class with Lilac!!!! Wow! Jealous!
-
coconut cream pie AND dreamy instructors...you all are talking my language! :-)!
today's exercise was mostly mostly housework...had to straighten up as I leave town tomorrow for the first of four trips (!) that will manage to have me 'on the road' much of the rest of August (not really a bad thing: it is SOO hot here that getting outta town appeals)...Tomorrow I am heading to the blissfully cool SF bay area for a few days. Staying at a hotel in the city but parking the car at the suburban BART (subway) station to avoid SF's $40 a night parking fees (!). So, will have to walk a fair amount even if my knees complain... despite the hills, SF is a pretty good walking city since it is relatively compact.
-
Octogirl, the 'Sculpted Sisters' visited San Fran one year and loved it. Sorry, no pix to share.
Can't remember if this was LA but we were above the city after a "short, flat walk." (yeah, right)
