Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Ruth: Cool that you danced with your surgeon! Hope tonight is peaceful for you.
Badger: Too funny about Ruth not taking a picture of her food.
Cheryl: The thought of having a cortisone flare sounds terrible. Glad you are doing better now.
M0mmy: Funny Funny Funny!
Octogirl: I'd prefer swimming any day over housework, also!
Hi Everybody. Walked/ran this evening in the heat and humidity. Took it easy.
-
Brava Ruth!!! Now you can show them how a "fit" patient recovers. All sorts of fun stuff you will (fortunately) miss because you are up and about.
Well done. Isn't it wonderful to be an outlier??? - Claire
-
Ruth, you're an example that exercise and keeping fit benefits in so many ways. Well done to you on the smooth way this post-surgery is going! Cheryl, Macmillan are fantastic.
Last Friday, was covering a early evening balance class and ran into a RPM (spin) instructor I know, who was covering the spin class, same time as mine, in the next studio and she was sporting a head scarf. We locked eyes and she said to me, I'm one of you now. So we hooked up after our classes and she had 5 weeks ago, a left breast mastectomy and was now coming this week, into her 3rd week of chemo. This instructor is perhaps the most fit - perfect body composition (no fat-very lean) of any instructor I know. We talked of her future reconstruction, which she wants; I showed her mine. She told me she has one side effect of chemo, yet, no sleep issues, no nausea, no fatigue (she is still teaching and covering other classes) just hair loss, as the cold cap looks not to be working. Her breast nurse is astounded. I told her that very few come though active treatment in the way she has and that she is a elite athlete, a status that has her sailing along in active treatment.
I'm deep in course worksheets that I put off, so I'd better get cracking and get these to completion, on this grey, chilly, breezy murky, July Tuesday morning that feels and looks more like autumn than summer.
Pilates mid-day
-
Ruth: Glad to hear your surgery went well. Wishing you a speedy recovery (sounds like you've got that going already!)
Traveling last week, so no "real" exercise, but Sunday did 30 min. on our exercise bike, and yesterday (barely) survived an entire Kinesis class (ok so I had to set the resistances to their lowest setting, but it still counts!). Pilates this afternoon. Not giving up because none of you ladies are!
-
My late sister was a Garfield nut!
Did my workout last night.
-
Well done, ruth! You seem to be on the right track to recovery!
Have been keeping up with my exercises. For the first time after so many years didn't renew my gym membership. I like going to the gym, but the one closest to me is still a bit of a commute and I ended up not going as much as I wanted to. Have been running and cycling and doing yoga, weights and other workouts at home. Been using this free website https://www.fitnessblender.com/ It is the best I've come across so far. Has tons of routines for all levels and various lengths. For winter, I'll probably join classes at the community centre and use the workouts in the link.
-
Well, I didn't have a peaceful night; but I think that is impossible in a hospital! I got sprung this late this morning and am glad to be home where I have been puttering about. I think I will probably crash for a few days now that all the 'excitement' is over with.
-
Glad to hear you are doing well Ruth. I find it ironic they wake you up all night in a hospital when a good nights sleep seems so in order. I am sure you are glad to be home.
Nice weather so I got in a 28 minute lunchtime walk today and yesterday both. Today I also had to mow-42minutes-after work.
-
So glad you're home and puttering about Ruth 👍
45 minutes body sculpt followed by 90 minutes pushing lawn mower tonight. Had all I could do to finish the mowing cuz my legs were absolute noodles by then. Totally whipped and will sleep well tonight.
-
Ruth: Hope tonight is more peaceful for you!
LB: Sorry about your friend becoming one of us. That's amazing that she has had no side effects. May it continue! Please tell her Hello for me and that I'm thinking of her.
Sweet: That's how I feel after I mow!
Walked/ran in the afternoon.
WHERE IS KAREN?!!! Hope you are okay and that nothing is wrong. Please let us hear from you!

Workout after dinner
-
Ruth - so glad you sailed through surgery, yes it does pay to be fit! But now is the time to take it easy and let your body heal and let others care for you. More time for reading!
Haven't been exercising much, but have been having fun both on the boat and at the beach. Did get up early this morning so did Classical Stretch, maybe I'll even make it to the gym today, though the day is absolutely gorgeous and is begging me to be outside. Busy getting ready for the Scotland trip, how to pack 2 weeks into a carryon, a real challenge!
Had dinner with my friends sister to talk about planning his ash scattering at sea. She is all over the place with ideas, and admits she is just having such a hard time making a decision about anything. Plus we are busy every weekend til the middle of September, and she wants us there. Afterwards we went to see the movie The Big Sick - poor choice for us both, as lots of hospital scenes that hit a little too close to home.
Have a good Wednesday everyone.
-
Glad you got "sprung" Ruth and hope you had a good night. Even happier that you are now on the mend.
I did a cycle and swim in Lake Sammamish yesterday, for about 15 miles of cycling. The water was wonderful. A group had cycled in but didn't go swimming, but of course I wore my suit under my cycling bottoms.
I am sorting out the new pedals, so know what new cycling shoes I will need. A bit of getting used to, but was fine at the end of my ride.
I always seem to be decades older than most of those actually swimming. So grateful to be able to do these things.... - Claire

My WWW ladies stopped by to say hi this morning. I 'walked' with them past my next door neighbor's house & back home, so I don't have to have an 'absence' on my record. I had a pretty good night; they had sent home some Tylenol with codeine, but after reading the four pages of 'bad and deadly' (their words, not mine) possible side effects, I just have been taking extra strength Tylenol instead & am doing okay. When I was talking to the doctor, it turns out it was a stage 3 prolapse (4 is the worst), not stage 2.....my strong core muscles were just holding things together and masking the severity, but that wouldn't have lasted forever, so I am even happier that I got it taken care of when I did!!
-
Wow Ruth that core of yours must be like a rock, very impressive - you are an inspiration to all. Badger sound like you are really embracing the gym. LB so sorry to hear of your instructor friend, she is lucky to have you in her corner. Elen glad you have found what works for you, everyone is different and what works for one doesn't work for another but as long as we are moving that is what is important. Wonderland - Karen posted she was taking a break from FB on FB a few weeks ago so probably disconnected from everything, I did see a picture that someone tagged her in on FB and she was in Israel, I think she was volunteering over there.
Last night did Sprint, last class with an instructor who is moving to Hawaii, his wife is being transferred there for her job so they are embracing the change - I mean who wouldn't eh and monday night was Body Combat.
-
Here's an article that made me think of you resilient women:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/25/well/mind/how-to-boost-resilience-in-midlife.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share

What a great article, Falconer! After I was diagnosed I saw a plaque that really spoke to me and said basically the same thing, but in one sentence: It is what it is, it becomes what you make it!
-
Going to go workout soon
-
Ran 3 miles today on the rail trail. Walked one with the little ds while he practiced riding his bike.
So nice to hear that your WWW visited, Ruth!
-
Cheryl: Thanks for letting me know about Karen. Hope she's having a fabulous time in Israel.
Ruth: That's so nice that your walking group visited you today.
Falconer: Nice article!
KB: Glad your turkeys are back home! Sounds like you need a new pair of boots for the next time that happens and there has been heavy rain
Walked/ran this evening.
-
Ruth, glad you're home. Those "Abs of Steel" people told the truth!
KB870 I bet that shower felt great. Stupid turkeys. When we lived out in the country, there was a flock of wild turkeys around so I've seen them in action. Not the world's smartest critters.
90 mins gym tonight - 15 min warm up, 45 weights, 30 treadmill cardio including three bursts at 95% max heart rate. Personal training pkg includes a heart rate monitor that links wirelessly to a wall display color-coded to level of effort. I didn't want to use my name so it shows me as badger LOL.
-
Look at you Ruth, you look super - love it and can see how much your posse loves you! Wonderland & Cheryl, thanks about my friend yet she is very self contained and I doubt she will call or reach out and only update when we bump into each other. Just typing this tells me I need to reach out and I will as I've got her email here in my machine. We are all different and how we react to the news, what treatment journey we take ...that underlying factor exists, we never asked to be in this 'club' . I've not known anyone to have a straight line recovery from treatment, there is some bumps - fits and starts, forward and sideways and that is when peer support, what we receive her on BCO is so valuable and don't need to even say that, and I did. And like Cheryl said: ..everyone is different and what works for one doesn't work for another but as long as we are moving that is what is important.
Ok, sent the Pink Ribbon Pilates grant in. The £'s are sort of on loan for a year and whatever is not spent is given back to Macmillan. In the costings was funding for starting a night class, something I've been wanting to do and the one thing that has been asked over and over to me by women who return to work. One foot in front of the other, let's see if we get the funding. I'm going to start teaching a tai chi class starting in September, every fortnight (every other week) for people who have Parkinson's. This should be interesting, looking forward to this 2pm Friday class, and some will be seated tai chi. Yesterday, left my favorite mat behind, so need to shoot over pick that up. I've numerous mats, but this one has the right thinness, softness, and it's green, a color I like working out on..color (hue and shade) matters to this past art major.
BodyBalance 6pm
-
I hope you can get your night class, Lilac. It's absolutely necessary for the working women!
My sister-in-law gave me the best advice for looking good in pictures: wear sunglasses whenever possible! (Which only works here in the summer!)
I am now going to attempt to walk down the block......stay tuned......
-
Goodness, I just got the most wonderful present in the mail this afternoon, especially handmade for me by Wonderland!
-
Beautiful. I'll say it again, Wonderland is so creative and talented.
Lilac, I feel like BC is all around us. yes on the evening classes so essential. The most annoying thing about my cancer center was the only thing for a working person was Saturday yoga, and then they cancelled that one.
Falconer, enjoyed the article about resilience. That's a keeper. Reminded me of this:
(Tried to Post a Picture but it didn't work) - anyway - "You just have to decide if you're a Tigger or an Eeyore.
Walked today at lunch 20 minutes.
-
Besides Wonderland's wonderful gift, today I was the on the receiving end of an mocha iced coffee, a Dairy Queen Blizzard, and a pan of lasagna. Yikes, I may be very plump by the end of my recovery!!!!
-
That's beautiful!
Today is active rest day, walked a lot and doing some light cardio and yoga
-
I am a beginner to exercise. I just finished the Livestrong program at my local YMCA and now I am going to take a low impact exercise class with some women from my group. I highly recommend the Livestrong program. If your local Y offers it, sign up. You won't regret it
-
Welcome, Iohoff!
-
Welcome, lohoff. You will find lots of encouragement here.
Ruth, amazing recovery and what a lovely surprise from Wonderland. Cheryl, hope the foot is better. LB, that tai chi program sounds awesome. Hope you get the funding for the night classes. Erento, I like that term - active rest day. I will have to use it more. Badger, I would be 90 minutes at the gym only if I had a cute trainer or instructor. I shared the article you posted on a Stage IV NED thread. Thanks again.
Biked with DD yesterday. We were attacked by some cows although DD says they were just being friendly. We were trying to get our bikes underneath an electrified wire fence as we seemed to be on the wrong side of the paddock. We both ended up getting electrocuted even though we tried to hold the rubber wheels only. Ouch. DH and I are off to the mountains today.
