Did the lovely Yoga at the Arts Center this morning & 45 minutes of not-so-lovely time on the dreadmill.

Gorgeous weather today...and I managed to get out of the building for 20 minutes at lunch time. I had hoped to walk after school before it got dark, but I didn't leave work till almost 5 and then stopped at Sprouts to get a few things for dinner....Loving these longer days!! My favorite time is right before the time change both in the fall and the spring...just the right amount of daylight!
Going to try to get in bed early like after the news (10:30). Last night I decided to bake cookies but didn't start till 9:00 so I was up past 11:30 - made two different types of cookies. AT our monthly department meetings, the values committee (which I'm on) decided we would "introduce" 2 people/month. There is no money in the budget for small gifts, so I offered to bring homemade cookies. I now have about 4 or 5 different types in the freezer and I'm trying to think of something else to bake tomorrow night. I love baking and find it relaxing, but we can only eat so much, so I often bring cookies to work. I bake a lot with nuts (almonds and walnuts), but I now have a couple types without nuts in case these 2 people have nut allergies. I will put the nut ones in different zipper bags. I'll then put the cookies in gift bags with tissue paper.
Off to watch the news. Sweet dreams.

Yum, cookies!
Subbed today & Book Club tonight, squeezed in 30 minutes of indoor walking in-between.
-
Did someone say cookies Kim there is a Les Mills Super Q in San Francisco (no gym selected yet but probably Walnut Creek) in late April and I will probably come up then. Raining here again, my friend is here from the U.K. and has hardly been on the golf course as they are so water logged. Mary 4 years ago today we were having dinner with you and M at that fabulous Mexican restaurant by your old house (FB memory popped up so that's why I know the date).
My trifecta night tonight - Sprint and Body Flow at one gym the BodyBarre at another

Cheryl, LM are rolling out today, something new to us -- what is called "Tribal Gatherings". The tickets go on sale at 9am, £40. a pop and they will be held in, Scotland. North West, Midlands, South West , London and Ireland. It's only for instructors, and we can attend 3 master classes of programmes not being certified in, unlike a quarterly. There will also be education drop-in sessions on the day. I remember reading about that dinner you all attended at when visiting Mary. Claire, Happy Birthday
Can't go to tai chi this morning as I'm stuck at home between 8am - 12noon waiting for the US Consulate courier to come get my son's emergency passport from last August, to dispatch to London and have it returned sometime via same courier as a 10 year passport and not 1 year emergency one (being a dolt, was not paying attention and it expired before trip to California last August - hence paying through the nose and it would cause issues if he used his UK passport only to travel to the US). This is the only way to get anything done, there is no rocking up in London or any US Consulate (like it used to be), one needs an appointment or in the case of passports exchange, the one Consulate approved courier to the tune of £27.20. Planning to type up my Pilates course worksheets and try not to dwiddle away these morning hours with online surfing or shopping being the a online magpie, dat I am. So sad to read of the shot in the heart of US public schools. My 3 Folkestone classes are filled with state (public) school teachers, retired and employed, as many of them populate this edge of the UK. My sis is a retired public school teacher and now a full time training triathlete. Anyway, DH came home slightly earlier last night and we went out to dinner for our 19th anniversary. Went to a gastro pub that friends raved about and we found it meh yet nice to go out during the week, something we rarely do.
Body Balance tonight

Happy Birthday, Claire! And Happy Anniversary, Lilac & DH!

Here's my political statement for the day (if you are out of the loop, the new Secretary of Education thinks there should be guns in school to fight off grizzly bears.....)
Grizzly Bears Flee America's Classrooms Following Confirmation Of Betsy DeVos
POSTED BY: GULLIVER FEBRUARY 7, 2017
There were heavy vibrations and thunderous noises in the hallways of America's public schools today as the huge number of grizzlies and other species of bear known to frequent their classrooms took to surrounding hills and woodlands.
This was reportedly prompted by the confirmation of Betsy DeVos as education secretary, who has suggested guns be allowed in schools, citing grizzly bears in the classroom as the reason.
Unbeknownst to the public, this is a major problem all across America and not just isolated to a few places like Alaska and Wyoming, so a comprehensive guns-in-schools policy is warranted.
The development is a shame say educators because – though some bears were undoubtedly there hoping to eat small children – the vast majority simply sought to improve themselves through learning.
"What we should be doing instead of this draconian policy of bringing guns into public schools is developing a proper vetting program for bears who wish to attend."

Echoing Ruth: Happy Birthday, Claire! And Happy Anniversary, Lilac & DH!
Students should dress in bear costumes as protest!
Lilac, I took my chances and applied for a visa online for DD last summer. The program did not crash when I answered that she holds another passport, a U.S. one. It is imposssible to get her to go to the consulate, which she can now do on her own. It's even impossible to convince her to sleep at home. Fortunately, we had no problems at immigration. If she never wants to renew her U.S. passport, that's her choice now. Teenagers.
-
Ruth - So THAT'S The noise I heard around the elementary school this morning! Love your idea Heidi
Happy birthday Claire and happy anniversary Lilac!
This visa thing is such a mess. I listened to every minute of the appellate court argument. Fascinating glimpse into the workings of our judicial branch.
Elliptical/bike/dreadmill run this morning. I Have my monthly lymphatic drainage massage scheduled for this afternoon - 90 minutes of pure relaxation. Ahhhhhhh!
-
We walked at the high school track this morning (didn't see any bears, so they must still be in hibernation). One of our walkers was subbing in a music class, so we sneaked in and were treated to some beautiful music. We have a GREAT music program in our public schools here!
(the two really young looking girls in the picture are students )

Looks like a good workout coming tomorrow with the snow that is heading my way
-
thanks to all for the expressions of sympathy
Holy cow - it's been nearly a month since I posted and haven't even been able to lurk!
So busy lately I sometimes literally can't remember what day of the week it is when my alarm rings.
That being said I have been faithfully attendimg a Tues\Thurs 45 minute body sculpt class followed by 30 minutes on the treadmill each time. DH has been wonderful at taking care of cooking dinner to give me the after work workout time.
Love you all, my sculpted sisters!

Happy Anniversary LB and Happy Birthday Claire!
Started a new habit of using the ladies room on another floor. I drink lots of water so do a set of stairs every hour.
Ruth, if I were a bear in ND, I'd be hibernating! It's 4 in Bismarck (and 54 in Denver - enjoy the heat wave Karen).
-
It was 65 here today, is 52 right now, and we'll be getting snow starting about 4 in the morning. It is hard to believe right now. Hope they're wrong, but they seem very sure of themselves.
Been working on getting stronger. The new gym gave a few sessions with a personal trainer. She is a very nice young lady. I don't think she understands that my right hip doesn't move though. She has me doing lots of squats and lunges. To my surprise, I have become much better at them. I am not sure how much good that really does me though. Have to get back to wogging. Can no longer do a 5k. Sheesh. I guess I should have stuck to that instead of this sidetrack into "strength".
-
Thank you for the birthday wishes, everyone!!! Actually, there are 4 more hours until the day!!! Today, I am celebrating the anniversary of driving cross country 10 years ago to start a new life here in Seattle. One of the good decisions I made.
Exercise was a 2.5 mile trudge in the pelting cold rain with slush underfoot. Still have weights to go and then dinner.
Life is really, really great. And.....I said NO to an unreasonable work request. I am now freed up to work on the things I need to accomplish. But I had to make my point that I really was unavailable for any more of that nonsense.
Looking forward to another great year! - Claire
-
High60s tomorrow and 72 on Friday. Then 50s and 40s on the weekend. Mountains are supposed to get snow. Speaking of snow, I hope the back east folks are safe and out of harms way
My husband gets home Friday morning. So glad he is connecting in San Fran and not Newark with the snow storms back east.
Made oatmeal walnut chocolate chip cookies tonight. That is 3 batches in 2 days! Baking is very therapeutic for me but we can't eat all I bake. I took cookies to our meeting this morning. When I do I always make sure someone takes any left. I say I don't bring cookies back home! So baked no the past 2 nights was a good way to avoid doing paperwork which I'm getting farther and farther behind!
Sweet dreams! Claire, I'll wait till tomorrow to wish you happy birthday
-
Now that I've got the right day: Happy Birthday, Claire! Wish I were working with you, Karen. OTOH I just broke my plateau but in the wrong direction. We are off for skiing tomorrow so I could say I am carb-loading. Actually, it's chocolate loading and not getting much exercise. I did do a very light barre workout for beginners and injured ballet dancers.
-
Looking like I will get a lot of exercise with them calling for us to get 12-15 inches of snow today.
-
My own view is that chocolate is essential for this time of year. It's no accident that chocolates are the gift of choice for Valentine's Day.
I think I may ease into the celebration with a spot of chocolate for my birthday. This might require a stop at the shop in Seattle that sells both chocolates and wine! Yes, really.
Shoveling is wonderful upper body work. I have done my share. My ex husband and I used to shovel out after a good storm with me doing 75% of the work. The year we had a lot of winter storms was one where I lost weight and trimmed down. So it does work for becoming svelte.
Looking forward to my ski trip this weekend. Should be major fun with breathtaking scenery. I will be skiing some different trails this time, so that should be fun as well. And the snow should be perfect this year!!!! - Claire
-
Round one of shoveling is done. Might have another round tomorrow with cleaning up what we get before the storm is finally over. This helps me with my next set goal of losing 10 pounds. I am down 20 pounds from where I started last Fall.
-
Happy Birthday Claire. LB they sound sorta kinda like our mimi Q's 4 programs with education. Embassies are the same world over, Australians living in the US have to physically go to an Embassy to get their passport renewed, my friend who lives in Tennessee had to go to Chicago to get hers. Mommy be careful while you are doing that shoveling.
Last night did Body Combat.
-
Happy real birthday, Claire!
Subbed all day and am thinking about exercise at the moment.
-
Bigcongrats to the 9,10 and 11 year anniversaries. Keeps us hopeful.
Lilac- we are pretty dejected that DeVos passed in spite of having no qualifications for the job. Sad day in education.
Claire- Happy Birthday!
We have a snow day today. Gave me time to catch up on backed up mail collection and I finally paid some bills. DH is out clearing the driveway. Cold, windy and looks like more than a foot of snow.
-
Stay safe and warm East-coasters!
Wonderland, the new S'mores GS cookies are excellent! Do you have them in NC? They'd be great packed on camping trip with marshmallows to roast over the campfire. Wish I could buy extra & freeze but they'd never last until summer.
Tomorrow night going to see Davina and the Vagabonds. They're from Minneapolis and caused me meet a "neighbor" from MN at the Alamo when I struck up a conversation with a woman wearing one of their t-shirts.
-
Happy Birthday Claire! What a wonderful way to celebrate.
Badger: there are two different bakers for Girl Scout cookies. This year both bakers came out with s'mores. They are very different from each other. Our council uses the baker that is selling the one that is chocolate covered. The other baker's looks more like a sandwich. Our baker cannot keep up with the demand of the new s'mores and they are always on back order. And yes, they are delicious!
Stay safe to everybody who is having snow storms. Our weather has been so up-and-down. Several warm days in a row and then a cold snap comes in and then right back to warm days.
-
We have the chocolate-covered ones. Yummy. Maybe I should get a few more boxes, while I can!

Happy birthday Claire🎂🎂🎂🎈🎈🎈
Hubby is on his way back....long flight to San Fran from Tel Aviv, layover then flight to Denver. All told, I think it's about 20 hours or so travel time.
Went out after work with some other school psychs for a beer. It's seems that the same couple of always go!!! It was a new brew pub. My hubbyoves IPA style beer so I thought I would get him a couple...I asked for one of each, thinking 2 bottles. Nope 2 - 6 packs. I commented to the waiter I only wanted 2 bottles. They don't sell singles and he offered to take them off the bill but I decided to get them. Sure hope hubby likes them. Funny thing is, I said to the person across from me that when the waiter brings the beer, I'll get my bill and he points next to me. The waiter had put the most on the bench next to me and I didn't know it! And I only had one beer, but after lunch my day went crazy. I didn't get out of work till 4:30. I a minute on call every 3 weeks to consult or do duicife risk reviews at other schools. So stay 2:30 I had to to drive across town to help at another school. Then my mother called me 3 times. I get more worried about my her by the day! Too much to go into detail and too hard!
Going to put up another load of laundry and start my challah for tomorrow night
Sweet dreams
-
I think you need those beers, Karen!
I did a little toning & a little time on the dreadmill.
-
Wonderland I've ordered the S'mores ones and get my stash on Sunday from one of my instructors, hope we have the chocolate ones!!! Yes Karen sounds like you needed that beer, hope your Mom is doing okay.
Went to Body Pump tonight and then went to my favourite Italian restaurant for dinner so one negated the other. -
A very active day; met a friend and did cardio dance selection in the Fitness On Demand room at the college, went to yoga, took my granddog for a walk (it was an amazing, sunny 42 degree day!), and then I chopped ice off the driveway for an hour. Whew!!!
