So how is everyone doing? I have not been doing any sort of diet, actually have had several chocolate malts in the last few days, but that is because I just sort of stopped eating for awhile since absolutely nothing really tastes good and food like soup, apple sauce, vitamin drinks, pudding, sort things or liquids are much better than things I have to chew. I had lost three lbs when I was at the Dr.'s last time and am not shoveling in food like I was since they cut down my steroids. This is a mixed blessing, I am sleeping and am not hungry all the time, but I have also lost my energy and seem to want to sleep all the time. I am going to ask them if there isn't some sort of a happy medium, somewhere that I will have energy, but still be able to sleep at night.
When I was actually exercising that time and got a shape back like I used to have (with a waist and everything!!), my girlfriend's fiance' who is a personal trainer was working out with me....he had me doing squats and said they are are great exercise that works the entire body.....also did thrusts and some crunches on those big balls in additon to lifting weights. You know those perfect push up things they advertise on the tv?.....they really do work for the upper arms. Hope you all are doing great and feeling good about yourselves.

Since my last post on May 19th I have lost a total of 7lbs over 6 weeks on WW. I am so encouraged by reading everyone's efforts here. I always try to remember that this lifestyle change is hopefully going to aid in preventing a reoccurence and this thread reminds me of that.
I also want to add that my experience has been that once I stayed mostly with just the "core foods" for several weeks the cravings for non-core foods subsided considerably. It was so tough to get over that hump in the 1st couple of weeks when every sweet or fatty food was calling for me! But this is a weight loss program that really works. Sometimes I think I am a walking WW commercial but that's ok.
In the past I would not be happy with such slow weight loss but I know if I want to have any chance of keeping extra weight off I have to change my choices and it is just taking a long time for me to get that.
Keep up the good work everyone and if you cheat (and everyone does), maybe you could do what I do and start again with the next food choice.
-
Jane1561 7lbs that is great! I think slow and steady won the race. We put it on slowly, pound by pound, inch, by inch. It just takes dedication to a different way of looking at food. I'm not quite sure I'm there yet, but I'm trying to think of food as fuel rather than ambrosia!
Marybe Don't forget to get protein in, yes there's some in the malts, but the sugar may be making you crash. I hope you feel better soon.
Off now for a nice dinner of salad and chicken.
-
I agree that the Core plan is great.... I never did figure out how to do the slide rule and found that just about every veggie, fruit and meat I like was on Core...even avocados! I used to make this avacado sandwich, with slices of avocado, scrambled eggs, tomato slice (is there anything like a fresh homegrown one in the summer?) and a piece of lettuce. I would have this on wheat bread, Aunt Millie's or whatever kind had the least carbs, fat or calories. It was delicious and very filling. For the sweet craving those sugar free lifesaver popsicles are really good. I think I was making a lot of diet Jello pudding also. I actually liked dieting...I am a foodie, just love cooking, looking at food magazines, trying new things, making up recipes. That is the worst part about not being able to taste....I now have to ask someone else if something tastes good. Seven pounds in 6 weeks is great.
-
Weight loss is elusive. But, keep it up it will come off. Sometimes we do plateau but in a few weeks it starts coming off again. One thing I've learned is that red meat is so much higher in calories. I used to feel like I was being good eating a low carb Angus burger at Hardees. It's meat, tomato and lettuce. When I checked it's points value it's a huge 11 points. That's most of my points for a day. But, now they have a grilled chicken breast low carb option. It's a nice size chicken breast and it's points value is 4. That's more like it and it fills me up just as well. But, I do have to say that angus burger sure does taste good. I'll have to save it for a special day.
I'm down another pound at my Monday night weigh-in. My fear is that when my radiation summer is over and I return to work that my exercise momentum will be difficult to maintain. But, I'll sure try.
Best to all of you.

Hi ladies....
Well today was weigh in day at the Rad clinic....206.8 ...went up a few ounces after a fun weekend feel it wasn't too bad. I have been walking about 2 miles now so it must be helping some.
Got a call from Jenny Craig this afternoon and they want me back...I have until Monday to keep my food discounts of 15 - 20% off the prices. They are discontinuing the discounts with new subscribers. I think that weight watchers is much cheaper and the best part is that you can use normal foods.....
Hope everyone is doing well....
-
It's always on step forward a half step back with me too. I guess that's just life. I'm not sure about packaged food. I know Jenny Craig has worked for a lot of people, but I imagine that there are chemicals in the food??? Maybe not. I bet I would eat the whole weeks food in one day and then have to starve the rest of the week! I did have a friend who did JC but when she stopped eating the food she just gained all the weight back really quickly.
I haven't been hungry this week at all. I'm not sure why, but I have to remind myself to eat. (very odd for me) I've been keeping the exercise up but trying not to do too much, like aerobic class and golfing on the same day. I want to respect the fact that my body is still being treated (radiation)
I went to get a pedicure for the first time since chemo. My sparkly toes make me so happy! Sometimes it's the little things in life. We have party to go to this weekend I don't think it will be a good weight week for me.....
-
I agree about Jenny, my girlfriend lost weight while on the program, as soon as she stopped she gained it all back. She never learned how to make her own food choices, she went back to her old habits I am trying to get her to join WW. I am doing the monthly pass. I really like it. lost 1.4 this week.
Cruise I like your new picture.
-
Barbie, I went for a pedicure a few weeks ago. Usually I choose the same sedate colors, but for some reason I was immediately drawn to a sparkly bright purply-pink. My toes have been making me happy ever since!
I agree about Jenny Craig-- not that I've ever tried it, but I think what we all need to do is learn how to eat well for our bodies, which means making good and healthy choices. WW or tracking calories in some other way are much more sustainable options. I'm still logging my calories on Livestrong.com and it is keeping me honest. Anyway, I don't like most prepared foods because to me, they just don't taste good.
As for thparties-- I had my annual company meeting/party on Wednesday. There were all these food stations set up, so I just picked the one with the shortest line, which happened to have a few different yummy salads. Then when the other line got shorter, I got a small piece of salmon and a few pieces of pasta. I only had 2 glasses of wine because I was by myself and had to drive home. So all in all, the damage was pretty minimal. I weighed myself at the gym last night and I was down a teeny bit, which is great because I usually weigh more by the end of the day.
Isn't it great to feel healthy? There's nothing like major surgery or chemotherapy to give a new perspective on one's body. I appreciate my energy and health every single day.

Morning Ladies...
Thanks iKat....I just had to have that shirt...bought a tank top with just the words..F#@ Cancer on it...for the summer when it gets hot. You probably can't see the tiny gray hairs poking up..and I can't wait for it to grow more so I can get it dyed.
barbie...golfing is a great way to lose...I play too! Just haven't had the energy to get out there and play 18 yet. Maybe in July when I am done with Rads...
Lorena...great job maintaining after the company meeting. And you know I tell everyone who has their health to not take it for granted....Its amazing how many people abuse their bodies for selfishness....well pedicures don't count...LOL Wish I had toes to paint...urrgghhh.
Have a great calorie free weekend ladies....
-
Cruise did you get the t-shirt on line? I would wear that one to work.
I've been trying to watch what I eat, and decided I need to change what my family eats as well. My son will eat what ever I make him. But my husband will cook for himself (he works a odd shift) He also brings a lot of junk food into the house. I have to stop him from doing that. Maybe if I just keep throwing it out he would get the hint.

Hi Ladies
I am up the creek without a paddle. I had a bl mast on 3-26-09 and ever since then my body, just hasn't been the same. I didn't have to do any chemo/rads or tamoxifen since my cancer was a stage 0. I cured it by doing the bl mast. I am concerned because I gained almost 10 pounds since then and I have been a WW client since Oct of 07. I was down to 138 and was feeling great. I did put back on a few pounds before I found out I had BC, which wasn't to bad, I knew I could get them off. I went back to weekly weigh in's instead of the once a month weigh in (which is for lifetime members, which I am) and the first week I gained 1 and 3/4 pounds. The next week I lost 2 and 1/4 pounds and the week after that I lost 2. Now here is the kicker. Last week, I really watched because I thought whoo hoo, I am on a roll and guess what? I gained 2 pounds. I have a small patch of alopecia near the nape of my neck as well. The dr states that this could be do to the major trama/stress my body has gone through from the surgery. I am so upset that I could cry. I get rid of this ugly disease, but now I can't get rid of the darn weight. I weighed 152 friday a week ago and I weighed myself last night which said almost 158! What is up with this? Does anyone have any ideas suggestions? Did this happen to anyone? I want to get back to 138. I was looking and more importantly feeling good inside and out! Please help a sister!
-
Dear Happytobehere1 Do not beat yourself up! Your body is healing and fluctuations are normal even without having the surgery you've had. Your a lifetime member which means you met your goals and maintained. You can do it again! I've been weighing myself only once a week, don't make yourself crazy and weigh yourself too often. Deep breath, BC stinks but you've already had great success just concentrate on that!
I had a good week I guess and the scale was down two pounds. I will not let it go to my head and I sure hope I won't find them next week.
I was actually jumping rope in aerobic class this morning, ugh. When I was a little girl I could do it for hours, this morning was in one minute increments and it sure felt like an hour! How did I ever do double dutch???
Happy healthy eating to all of you!
-
Welcome Happytobehere....
Are you taking any hormones? Since you haven't been on any cancer meds...are you doing anything differently? It could be watergain....
Barbie...CONGRATS....I will see what happens on Thursday for me...wish me luck... (WINK)
-
Cruise,
Thank you for the information on the t-shirt, I will be ordering one too.

How's it going, ladies?
I had a nice light lunch yesterday, soup to nurse my cold for dinner (went out to a Korean restaurant with dbf) and then -- an ice cream cone! Why did I do that??? I have to say, it was really yummy, but of course it put me way over my calories for the day. Tonight I'm going out with a bunch of coworkers for a happy hour get-together, which is dangerous for me. Not because I drink too much -- I never go over one or maybe two drinks if I'm driving -- but we're going to a Mexican place and I am addicted to tortilla chips and salsa. Maybe I'll head to the gym afterwards, since my son is with his father tonight.
So much temptation....
-
Hi Ladies...
Well I started South Beach this morning...had to do something while still on Rads. I will see if it helps any .....
-
I don't know if I have lost anything but while I was hospitalized due to a shattered shoulder, I barely ate - the pain meds cause you to sleep rather than eat. Since I've been home I just thing they want me to eat too much food (I know, I never, ever thought I would say that)!
-
Cruise South Beach sound good. How many more Rads do you have to do?
I wish my scale and Weight Watchers scale agreed....but I still managed to loose this week so I know its working.
-
Cruise my friends lot a ton of weight on SB and they've kept it off. It's a good healthy plan and I think you can also do some online stuff for recipes or whatever. I seem to remember my fiend doing that.
Ikat do any scales in the Universe agree???And even if they did they'd never agree with what I think I should weigh. Losing is losing good job!
I'm off for a weekend away straight from Rads. We are going to a memorial service for a very close friend, she was like a second mother to us.We are staying at a very pretty resort in their town. I'm going to have to watch food and alcohol intake, I always find it harder when I'm away. There is so much more temptation and a few glasses of wine sometimes makes me forget that I can't eat all the food on the table.
Have a healthy eating weekend everyone!
-
Kathleen - shattered shoulder? When/how did that happen? How are you feeling? When I was in the hospital after my DIEP, I barely ate anything for three days for the same reason. I finally was able to have breakfast when they stopped the morphine drip and switched me to oral painkillers. The DIEP is actually a good weight control plan -- it left me with such a tight tummy that I really couldn't eat big meals. I described it like feeling 8 months pregnant but with half as much skin!
OK, so I had a margarita and NACHOS last night. Bad me! At least the nachos were shared among 6 people so I didn't eat a huge amount. Today I'm working from home and it's a new, healthy-eating day. I'm going to have a nice salad for lunch....
Happy Friday everyone -- I hope some of you have better weather than we do, here in New England it is gloomy and raining.
Lauren

Hi Ladies...
Kathleen...wow...when did that happen? Did you fall? My gosh what else can we handle?
As for South Beach...I made the individual quiches (in muffin tin) which are yummy and very low cal. I have two of those for breakfast and a can of vegetable juice (v8) or tomatoe juice. It really helps to start the day right. Plus walking the dog..which should help..although the raw boob from the rads is very sore...ikat...only 7 more to go (2 regular and 5 boosts).
Have a great CALORIE Free weekend ladies...Party Hardy...but be cautious of the calories...LOL
-
Ooh, could you post that recipe for the individual quiches -- that sounds really good! I'm not doing South Beach but they sound like a healthy, filling, low-cal way to start the day.
Thanks!
Lauren

Lorena..My Pleasure....
Vegetable Quiche Cups To GO
- 1 package (10 ounces) frozen chopped spinach
- 3/4 cup liquid egg substitute
- 3/4 cup shredded reduced-fat cheese
- 1/4 cup diced green bell pepers
- 1/4 cup diced onions (you can use - green, yellow or red)
- 3 drops hot-pepper sauce (optional)
Microwave the spinach for 2/1/2 minutes on high. Drain the excess liquid. Line a 12-cup muffin pan with foil baking cups. Spray the cups with cooking spray.
Combine the egg substitute, cheese, peppers, onions and spinach in a bowl. Mix well. Divide evenly among the muffin cups. Bake at 350*F for 20 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Quiche cups can be frozen and reheated in the microwave. Any combination of appropriate vegetables and reduced-fat cheese may be used.
Cindy's Hint...I used one of those muffin pans with the silicone rubber inserts and did not use any cupcake papers...sprayed with Pam and they came out great. I have also used zucchini instead of the spinach..and I have doubled the recipe.
The South Beach program allows for two of the quiches and 6 oz of vegetable juice for the morning breakfast..... ENJOY!!!
-
I lost you guys for a couple of days. I wasn't sure what happened. But, I see you're here. I've done South Beach in the past. It's really not much different than Weight Watchers Momentum Plan. Those quiches sound great. I lost another pound this week. But, my doctor is telling me to stop until radiation is done. So I guess I'll have to slow down a bit. He gave me the go ahead for toning my arms with weights though so that's good. Have a great weekend.
-
Thanks, Cruise! What is liquid egg substitute? What does it taste like, and where do you get it? Is it made from artificial or natural ingredients?
-
Lorena..Egg substitute is like EGG BEATERS or something similar...you can usually find it in the dairy case. It has less calories and better than regular eggs.
-
Crack! GO TO BED!
-
Okay....I will...
Just got home from dinner and drinks at a friends house...and winding down...
Going to a Blending for Boobies event tomorrow...more details later...going to bed now...LOL
