Weight Watchers...Start the recovery process with us!

Well, I don't know if I have any tips yet - it's just my second week in the program. Maybe it was having to fork over the money for the program, but all of a sudden I have tons of willpower. Hopefully, it will last. Went on a nice long walk today.
-
conniehar....way to go...keep sending us your positive fibes. Looks like your first tip is to PAY to lose weight as a great motivating factor. Most of us will give up if we know there was no monitary payment for weight loss. GOOD ONE!!!!!!
-
I have one tip. For me its getting on that scale if front of someone and them having to mark down my weight (the having to pay also helps). I never want to hear "oh, it looks like you gained a little this week your up 2.2 lbs" I much prefer "Wow, you did great this week your are down 2.2 lbs"

I'm glad they give you the 35 extra "splurge" points. Had fried chicken last night - 18 points for the 2 pieces I had! Back to my cheerios this morning. Still on track and I'm excited for my weigh in on Wednesday. I am fitting into the shorts I wore last summer that were very tight at the beginning of this summer! Keep the focus girls!

I have a girlfriend visiting for a couple of days I hope I can eat well and keep up the exercise. I've come to the conclusion that I can't have 5 good days and blow it on the weekends. I'm not making the progress I'd like. I do need to blow it though. Giving myself Sundays as an eat whatever day. We'll see how that works?
-
Hello everyone - I'd like to join this group as well. I had a lumpectomy in January, 4 rounds of chemo (TC) and finished radiation last week, so I'm geared up to lose about 15 lbs. Goodness knows I can use all the encouragement I can get, since I really just want to dive into some ice cream to celebrate. I've tried to alternate slow jogging and walking twice during the past few days, and that is just brutal. I'm also trying to eat a lowfat veggie-based diet. But sometimes I can hear the hamburger and fries calling my name...
-
Welcome Carolina Chick....
We can do this together.....and fries are vegetables....LOL
-
I ate a lot of salad this week with my girlfriend, but we also drank a lot of wine.
That wasn't being a good as I would have liked, but I'm hoping it balanced out. FF are my very favorite veggie!
I've done tons of exercise the last few days, classes and extra girl talking walks. carolinachick I know a lot of runners that started with the jog/walk, but never I get to the jog part.
Every little bit of good is a step in the right direction.

Hi ladies -
I weighed in yesterday at 1.6 less lbs. Yippee! I was really hoping for more but I will take it.
I did splurge last night on some movie popcorn (with butter, of course), but I substituted it for my dinner and my home scale didn't move up this morning so that is good. I kind of like this Weight Watchers because you can splurge if you want - just not every day! I have really become aware of how horrible I was eating.
Good luck to everyone!
-
Way to go Connie.... 1.6 is great....try to eat Popcorn plain...you will thank yourself later....Movie theatres will accomodate.

I love weight watchers. I love the support, the diet is so healthy, The program is so motivating. Journalizing really helps. I'm life time now and I still write down everything that I eat. It helps alot. It also helps make you accountable for exercise. I love the e-tools, especially the recipe builder which helps me figure out how many points the recipes I cook at home have and helps me slim them down. Good luck to all of you. Sometimes I think it's better to take the weight off slow. After all this is a life style change for life not a diet. You'll find if you stick to it that after a while your tasted buds change a bit. Fried chicken taste less good, pecan pie taste too sweet. It's a process but, it's interesting how we slowly change.
-
I'm feeling so good, my energy level is defiantly back to normal I think. I'm watching the diet closely and I thinking of having one day a week to eat and drink as I'd like. I can really cut back the other days if I have that to look forward to. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow, so we'll see how I've really been!
We had a big party for family on Saturday and I concentrated on green salad, and a few small side tastes. Debonthelake you are so right that our taste bud can be re-trained. We were out to dinner with some friends on Friday and I could barely eat some of my meal because it seemed so rich (lots of oil used in cooking) I make risotto, but I use very little oil. My tummy just can't take a high fat diet anymore. But that's a good thing!
Aerobics this morning and I'm off now for lunch hour yoga. Hoping to play a little golf after work with the gals. -taking cart but you should see how many times I have to hit the ball to get it anywhere!
Eating less, exercising more, this has got to work, right????
-
Of course Barbie,
It will work. It sounds like its already working and that your energy is improving. Have a nice weekend!
-
Hi Ladies...
Went for a longer walk with my little Roxy yesterday and it wore me out. I couldn't stop prespiring....so I jumped in the pool. Guess I need to walk even more to get my energy level up.
Still love the WW ice cream...but even though I am eating WW's it's yummy.

Here is the best tip so far that I know from personal experience: I had gotten down to 177 and then went back up to 186. I watched my diet for several weeks (3-4) then went back into the hospital from 6/23 until 7/6. Then I spent 3 weeks in rehab for a diabetic foot ulcer and shattered shoulder. When got to rehab they weighed me and I weighed 161! When left rehab, I weighed 154!
I credit it all to the lousy food in both places. Evidently they think a vegetarian only eats plain vegetables... no protein, no carbs - just vegetables (preferably frozen vegetables that have been left out to dry up).
-
Ha ha, great advice. All I have to do is go on a hospital "vacation" You poor thing. I can't even imagine hospital food doing vegetarian! ICK! I hope you are feeling better, that's a lot to go through. On the plus side at least you lost weight which is always happy making.
DH is away for a few days so I find it easier to eat what I consider boring lo-cal food. That's probably not the right attitude, but I can be happy with yogurt, or salad or an egg white omelet for dinner. Hopefully I will continue to see a drop in the scales. Down only a pound from last week, but I'll take it. I see my Onc Aug 18th and I'd surely like to drop more pounds by then.
I had a little accident and fell in the middle of the night and got a huge cut on my bottom. I was too em-bare-assed to go to the emergency room, so I had my husband steri strip it and I've had to sort of take it a little easy with the exercise this week. Walking is fine, but jumping around in aerobics sort of hurts. Oh well, it will heal. It already hurts less to sit. Can you imagine??? I feel like such a dope. I'm sure to have a huge scar, but that's an area always hidden from sight!
I'm concentrating on veggies this week. Next week I'm away and I hope to make good choices. Some days it feels like an uphill battle. Sorry to complain, especially with kmccraw423 reading. Putting on happy face.
-
Oh pooh - complain all you like. Having to watch your weight all the time is exhausting. Always havinhg to make choices while everyone around you is eating everything they see.
You poor thing - falling is no fun and I know what you mean about em-bare-assing. Can you go to your doctor?
-
Is it really true that many ladies gain weight with chemo??!? I thought it would make you nauseous and thus curb the appetite. Oh lord, I don't want to gain weight on top of everything else.
I am 46 and having a mastectomy with diep reconstruction on Aug. 6 with chemo to follow at about 5 weeks. I am already 15 lbs above my ideal. I realize I need to focus on fighting cancer and keeping my head together.
So, it looks like you have a new member to this thread. All I can say is that all of you are inspirational, real and a true life line.
-
Hi, everyone - figured I'd better get joined up with you all so I don't get left in the dust on the weight loss / fitness race (or since we're all still recovering, we'll make it a slow trot or walk). I met with the rad onc for a followup this week and was pleased to see I lost three pounds since the end of June. that's mostly by cutting out ice cream every night (my DH is naturally thin, rides his bike to work and eats like maniac -so not fair!!) and going back to the healthy, low fat menu I was doing prior to dx. I am also working out 2-3 week on the Firm's "Wave" and trying to get in walking (even if it is just with the doggies) or a bike ride the other nights. Am slowly amping it up as I feel better - was slowed down by 2 weeks of Femara se's, but as I'm not taking that now, and am waiting to see what the next trial will be, I intend to just keep moving and eating better. My weight prior to dx was 169, which I feel is still too heavy for me, I am 5' 6", and really want to be around 145, but after chemo & rads, it was 179. So when she told me 176 and 3 lbs, I thought, terrific - maybe it really WILL come off. We have all been through so much - let's grab hands and keep it going - this time in a positive direction!!!
-
Well, I guess I should join you guys too. I am a WW life time member, having been at goal for 3 years and NEVER missing a monthly meeting. I had surgery in April and started chemo in June. I have one more left - yippee! - and am up 10 pounds. For the week after treatment I eat what tastes good, then track my points for the other 2. I'm hoping that way I can get the weight off after chemo stops. I've been in the gym 3-4 times a week, so hopefully that will help too. Good luck all.
-
Hello bosom buddies. Well I can no longer put of the inevitable. I am huge. I hide my weight with masterful clothing disguises, but it is getting to hard to get dressed. I and my DH joined WW and I am on day 2. Can you believe it. One thing that I learned from chemo and Rads is that time passes and even what we think we can not do we do with grace. I am a little under 5'10 and weigh 210. Oh my!!!!! I was told that I have to lose the weight because it will lessen my already high risk for recurrence. I want to just get get my game back. I gained like about 20 pounds during chemo and was a bit chubby before. My ideal weight (believe it or not) is about 165. When I was a fit model I was145 to 150. That is what I weighed in my avatar. I am now 55 years old so I do not expect to be super skinny. I noticed that my waist has gotten so thick. I am looking forward to losing and rocking jeans and my Buddhist hair.
I read the post since the beginning to get caught up. I am for the first 2 weeks using packaged WW and Lean cuisine supplemented with tons of veggies and a little fruit. I am for the past few day way under my 24 point allotment. But the faster this gives me results the more powerful my commitment will be.
Now for exercise..... I have been a sloth no strength winded and lazy..... GULP! Now it is time for me to embrace my inner athletes and hope that my muscles have a memory!!!!
I have many friends on this site and I look forward to new ones. I will do my best to encourage and support. I hope you are still excepting motivated chubbies to you group.

Bold - just be careful going uner your points. When I was losing weight first go-round I was eating all my dailies but not using my 35 weeklies. I did great for a few weeks then stopped losing. I starting eating all of my 35WPA's and started losing more quickly.
We are about the same height, I'm 5'10" and my WW goal is 160. I'm up to 170 now after the 10 chemo pounds. Good luck!
-
Hi all, boy the boards are quite. I just wanted to say that I have stuck to it with ease and worked out yesterday on the elliptical and then swam. I look forward to weighing in on Monday. I am not weighing in everyday do the impact will be more. I can not wait to be thin and in shape again. I hope everyones doing OK.
-
I'm checking in too - doing okay as well with the food intake and have managed to get through most of the different workouts I have and added my 2 lb dumbbells yesterday. I was a little sore last night but not too bad. Haven't weighed in yet - like Bold, I'm going to do this weekly, rather than daily. Can feel the start of thigh muscles getting firmer from all the squats I've been doing!
Hope everyone is okay and losing it (weight, that is!!). Take care.
-
I've lost 4 pounds in the past couple of weeks. I have been very dedicated to exercise and really trying to stay away from carbs and sugar. Lots of lean protein and veggies. I've been living off "chopped salad" lettuce chopped, with finely chopped red onion, cucumber, mushrooms, tomatoes, and avocado. With everything chopped into the lettuce the flavors are yummy and I don't feel the need for any salad dressing. I also have made broccoli slaw with lowfat mayo and/or greek yogurt. Very good, lo cal and broccoli is supposed to be so goodfor bc.
I have a huge slab of ribs in the fridge for a party tomorrow, so I guess I won't be as good as I've been all week, plus I'm sure DH will be shaking the margarita's. Sticking with my plan for more good food days than bad food days. So far it's working. I see my onc in two weeks, so happy to be down in weight!
Have a great weekend everyone!
-
That's great Barbie! Ok, I can do this too...
-
Hi! Can I join in? I know many of you already and am happy to have found you!
I had my hysterectomy on Monday 8/3. I came home from the hospital on Wednesday. My belly is blown up like crazy (who knew but they actually "inflate' you before a hysto!!!)
Anyway, I can't drive or do much for 2 weeks. I can't lift more than 5 lbs for 6 weeks. But, I CAN WALK. Yesterday, I walked a very, very slow mile. I'm tired of sitting on my butt.
I stopped my tamoxifen a week before surgery per dr's orders. I start arimidex on Monday. So, I need to be watching my food and walking. I already have weight to lose and many gain on arimidex.
So, I'm here. Ready to join in but will only be a "walker" for now. Other exercise will wait a bit.
Lisa

Welcome, Lisa!! Glad you are up and about and feeling okay. Did you have the hyst. via laporoscopic surgery? If so, yes, they inflate you, waaaaaay up, so they can find and get to everything.
Walking is great - when we aren't able to get anything else done, walking is the fallback, and we have a newly paved, expanded road nearby with a great sidewalk that is perfect for the 2 miles up and back trek.
Went to whole foods yesterday (it's about 45 min away) and got a bunch of organic and non-processed stuff - some went into the freezer, some the pantry and the rest is for this week. Can't do that every week, unfortunately, because it's a haul to get there and back, but I'm thinking I can stock up at least once a month on things that will keep and the rest I can get from our local grocery store and runs to the farmer's market when we aren't busy doing yardwork and other house stuff.
Never work out on Saturdays - I figure the housework - cleaning from top to bottom, laundry and errands make up for it. Yoga tomorrow morning - I am planning to enjoy every minute of those stretches.
-
Hi all,
I'm back from vacation. It'll be a week before I can weigh in again. I'll start journaling again tomorrow to make sure that I'm back on track with my points. I was able to get some long walks in on the beach while I was gone so I haven't been totally off track.
-
Hi Chelev!
Yes, my hysterectomy was a lap hysto. I had that done and then corrections to my anatomy for a rectocele, cystocle and prolapse. I also had a mid urethral sling placed. fun, fun!
I really feel pretty good but have to be careful so that recovery goes well. I don't want to do all the "repair" work again!
For now, walking will be my only exercise. And, as soon as I finish my 6 weeks recovery, I'm going right back to surgery to finish my reconstruction. I don't want to get back to LIFE and then stop for surgery again. I'm going to keep this train going and hopefully finish by Thanksgiving! What a celebration that will be!
I'm lucky that I live near a Trader Joe's and a Whole Foods. I'm working to figure out how to be "mostly" vegan. I won't likely give up turkey/chicken/fish/ etc. forever, but I want to eat more vegan based. Need to start that research. Losing weight is going to be my #1 priority!
Debonthelake - welcome back from vacation! hope you had a nice time!
Lisa
