Hello Ladies,
So, another great thing about treatment is that I forgot that I posted on this thread (thanks chemo) and "found" it again this morning. I will mark it as a favorite now. I have been pretty good with making healthy choices and have lost 4 pounds since I last posted. I have not done much in the way of exercise and I know that is key. Here is an inspiring little diddy - my liver enzymes are elevated and of course one of the causes could be fatty liver. What causes that - being overweight is a possibility. So, I am out of reasons not to lose the weight. It does affect our health and I did not go through all this treatment to then just make up excuses. I am not speaking of anyone else, just myself. I know how much of a struggle it is and how much I despise it when people say "I don't know what the big deal is, just do it" Oh, OK. So, ladies, here I go. Keep me honest. You are right, we can not deny ourselves of the little or big slips as it is a fact of life and one little or big slip is not how I gained all the weight. It was years of bad choices.
Take Care
Diane

We'll my wt. is back "up" to 162, but I did eat salads for lunch at least three days this week and I did make it to the gym twice during the work week, which is good for me. I'm going to keep focus on the healthy options and drinking my water this weekend, but relax the diet thing a bit since it'll be a bbq weekend, I'll ask DH to bbq salmon for me. Baby steps, baby steps. Have a great weekend!
-
Hi WW's! Just popping in for a little pep talk before the weekend kicks off! I've been doing well over the past 3 weeks. I have been good about what I eat and trying to run or walk 3-5 miles at least 4 time a week. When I went for my zometa infusion yesterday the scale at the hospital was down a good 3 pounds from the last time....so I feel encouraged! This is were the trouble begins...holiday weekends!!! I don't want to undo what I have started...I'm already behind....since I did not get my run this morning...DH left early to surf and I missed my alarm!! I need to talk myself into getting it later today! I MUST stay away from JUNK FOOD and WINE this weekend!!! I MUST!!!!!!!! I suppose it's time to cut of some veggies!!!!
-
kmc, the scale cartoon is hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.
-
Just FYI - scales lie.
-
KMC, love the cartoons!
So this morning I went to the gym. First step: weigh in (since I don't have a scale at home). Last weekend I was 152, and I've been counting calories all week, so I really hoped to be down at least a pound. Drumroll please...... 151.5. So what did I do? I took off my socks and my t-shirt (was wearing a cami underneath) and, lo and behold, 151! ;-)
Then I took my first aerobics class since DIEP surgery almost 8 weeks ago. I kept it very low impact but I did make it through all 45 minutes of cardio! And I felt great all day -- so far I'm not sore or anything. I'm planning on going back tomorrow to do the weight machines and maybe 20 minutes on the elliptical (I have the time b/c my son is away with his father).
Feel good everyone!

Wow, Lorena. I'm impressed. First, that your t-shirt and socks weighed 1/2 lb. But more so that you got thru 45 min of cardio. Even if it was low impact. I can barely get thru 10 min without having to rest a bit. But that is an improvement for me. There was a point a few short weeks ago when I could not even make it walking thru the house. Congrats on your pound down.
Here's to everyone making it thru the weekend with very few slip-ups!
-
Do smores count as a slip up because I just had one around a camp fire!! It was very good. Will have to walk an extra mile tomorrow and hit the veggies hard to counter act my little treat.
Diane
-
Lorena - I call that a "holding pattern." I don't know where the body is holding it but next week you may lose 3 or 4 pounds. Your body is sneaky - it does that to make you go off your diet! Fight it - don't do it!
-
Diane - I wouldn't think one smore would constitute a slip up. Of course, that kind of rationalization got where I am today!
-
Diane, I would count the fact that you only had ONE s'more as a big success! I'm all about moderation and portion control -- if you deprive yourself of things that are really yummy, you are (or I am, anyway) more likely to be resentful and jump even farther off the wagon. But walking an extra mile won't hurt!
Firni, keep in mind that I finished chemo a whole year ago, and I was taking at least one aerobics class a week between October and March. So I went into surgery in decent cardio shape (even though I hadn't lost much weight). There is no way I could have done more than a 15 minute walk in the months rigth after chemo.
KMC, I hope so. But I doubt I'm going to lose 3-4 lbs in one week, my body just doesn't do that, especially on Tamoxifen. I'm banking on slow and steady. After the gym I went back to livestrong.com and recalculated my daily calorie intake based on the lower weight. I've been a bit over all week so I'm going to be a little bit stricter with myself. It shouldn't be hard to shave 60 calories off my day, really.
On a positive note, I went shopping for clothes yesterday! Yes, you read that right, "positive" because my top half is so much slimmer since my DIEP surgery. I bought a ton of bright summer shirts, mostly on sale (I *heart* Chico's) and it was fun to see how my smaller breasts and flatter stomach look in clothes. On top of that, I have a friend who just lost a lot of weight and is getting rid of clothes, so she gave me some nice pants/jeans/capris that I can wear while my body is "in transition." I am not shopping for the bottom half until I lose at least 5 lbs!
Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend everyone!

Morning Ladies...
My DH and I are heading to San Francisco...and you know what that means...good food and good drinks....I will do some walking so that counter balances it...right????
Have a great Sunday....
-
I love that scale cartoon. I did pretty well with exercise this weekend. Probably over did it on food a little but, not too bad. I'll just keep on keeping on. That's all I can do. Have a great week.
-
Lorena, I'm so with you on taking off stuff before getting on the scales - - my running shoes do weigh a ton!
Ate lots this weekend; I can't even claim portion control. I also had a nice hike with my son and a couple friends and their 13 year old, so am hoping that counts. DH still recuperating so not able to join us, but he did drive to pick us up so we only had to do a 4 mile hike instead of round-trip 8 miles.
-
That cartoon is so funny! I didn't step on it this morning because I didn't want to cry.
We had a lovely barbecue this weekend. I could not convince DH that our normal 95% fat free turkey hot dogs would be the thing to eat. He begged for "normal" hot dogs, UGH 180 calories each 160 calories from FAT !!! and I ate two plus potato salad and coleslaw, oh yes and a couple of drinks. Yesterday was better stuck to two glasses of wine, grilled chicken and lots of veggies and salad, no one seemed to notice that I was dieting. Missed exercise class this morning - it came too early for me. It's a short week at rads so that will be nice. DH will be out of town for three days so I'm hoping to really cut back while I don't have to cook. My new goal is to get below 200lbs. Oh boy did I just say that? How did I get over 200?
-
Hi Ladies...
I admit ...I went off the pledge this weekend...we had a great time in the city..I did walk quite a long ways. We did drink some great wine at the ferry building...and then went to Scoma's for dinner. I had the Crab Louie and it was worth going off the calorie chart with that yummy thousand island dressing....
Today my little yorkie..>Roxy and I went for a long walk...and it was great to get some sweat out...and I will watch my calorie intake from now on...I am getting more and more walking in to help counteract the calorie intake...
Barbie...I don't know how I got over 200 so fast either...I am not liking that number...let's challenge each other to get below 200 by end of June...or sooner..do accept the challenge?
Hope you ladies are doing great...
-
The only thing that saved me this weekend was that my son brought home his new girl friend, who is vegetarian. So I cooked really healthy. Portion control was not so good but, at least the food was healthy. We were able to get out in the kayak for a short maiden voyage on Saturday. It felt great.
-
deb...veggies are the best...good for you getting out on the lake.
-
Hi everyone - just wanted to check in and say hi.
kmc - I know all about sabotuers! My DH is always saying "We need to eat at home and cook healthy food" and then the next day I get home from work and he talks me into going out to eat!
Question about yoga - is it okay to do with tissue expanders and/or implants? I just can't imagine putting alot of strain on my chest with these darn TEs. I would like to try it if it's not a big deal though. My PS did say that I have no limitations from him on what I can do.
One more thing - proud to say that I've done my hour walk every day for a week, and last night ran about 1/4 of it! The humidity is a killer though.
-
Hidy Ho Ladies,
I had a good workout this morning at the gym and the long drive to rads (ugh) Packed healthy car snacks (thanks Lorena!)
Cruise Lets do it! My scale will be much happier
JanMarch Yoga could be great, but I'd suggest you try a one on one session with a yogi who has some experience with rehab. Good on you for the walk/run
I've been doing yoga about 4 times a week for quite some time. One class is sort of vigorous, one class is slower and challenging, one very gentle and once a week I do a private yoga class so it's all about me and what I want to work on. I give yoga a lot of credit for getting me through the last few months. The stretching is great, the balance you gain working on your core and the relaxation with the breath is the best. I would encourage anyone who wanted to try yoga to find a class and instructor that suits them. I've had good and bad instructors through the years and as in anything else personality can make all the difference.
Veggie soup for lunch so I feel noble!
-
JanMarch, I did yoga with my TE's. At first had to ease back into some of the poses, especially cobra, but within a few weeks forgot it used to be any different.
I've come to the conclusion that my implants must weigh several pounds each, its the only reason that explains the scale going up after my last surgery. I'm sure it couldn't be relaxing on my diet.
I'm with you barbiedahl, yoga saved my sanity, and was the only thing that helped with taxotere and neulasta pain
-
Barbie...okay...I get weighed tomorrow...as I visit my Rad doc after I get zapped...we can target the month of June for our challenge....Is that okay with you????
-
Cruise- I don't get weighed officially until Monday. My scale at home can vary by a few pounds depending on how gingerly I step on it. I think the month of June is the perfect challenge! I'm hoping someday to get to the place where I'd actually tell people my weight, ha ha
DH is away for a few days so I'm hoping to stick to salad, and light meals. I went to an awesome strength training class this morning, hard, but good. The only problem is that I'm probably going to be really stiff by the time I get to my rads!
Think of how happy our bodies are that after all they have been through we are supporting them with healthy food and exercise. I hope my body appreciates my efforts and morphs it's self into SI swimsuit shape.
Energy and good food go together!
-
Afternoon Ladies...
Okay Barbie...we are accepting the challenge. I got weighed today...207.2 ....that is what I weighed last week...so I am sure by Monday it will be the same.
You can PM me with your weight if you want to...I won't tell...
Hope the rest of the ladies will join us....it will be fun..and a great way to control our eating habits.

I'm baking for the kind Chemo nurses and my Doctor ( I will not touch anything!).
I figure I go by them everyday on the way to radiation and I wanted to do something nice they were great to me.
Also a new theory If I fatten everyone up around me I will instantly look thinner! My sister in law is a chef and I swear she's been doing that for years!
Cruise I will share my weight here happily (we are all in the same boat), but not at the gym or any other place! I'm a little anxious for next Monday. I guess it's good incentive to stay on track.
-
I love the new theory that if everyone else is fattened up, we can look thinner.
I got out the old Pilates tape today and was able to do a full 30 min. workout without stopping. I was pretty darned excited about that. Of course the full extension of some the movements isn't there yet, but that will come. Had to stop using the mini trampoline for awhile with my toenails being taken off. Too ouchy to jump. It has been very interesting doing upper body workouts without flexing the pecs too much. I don't want big strong muscles binding my implants. It does help keep you true to form.
-
Weight watchers has some great baked goods. This weekend I made oat and fruit muffins. They were 3 points and very healthy and tasty. You can have it both ways. It just takes a bit of research. I walked 2 miles and jogged 1/2 of a mile today. It felt good. My body is sore from exercise and my boob itches from radiation. I guess I'll be taking benadryl and Advil tonight.
Best to all of you.
-
I'm going back on the detox diet starting Saturday. I am also planning to bake some cookies with my son for some neighbors who called 911 so quickly when my husband was attacked a few weeks ago and we're also going to take some to our city police dept. for the Officers who arrived so quickly. Will bake tomorrow - - diet starts again on Sat!
I have started to have some lymphedema symptoms, so I think the diet and hydration and exercise will help. Will make a PT appt. too. Best to all - C
