Couldn't resist this cartoon
-
My gosh...so sorry that happened to you...on a lighter note...Love the cartoon...
-
Hope your shoulder is healing well. Love the cartoon. I hope we can do a little better than that. This time our bodies are screaming for the protection.

Watched the Today show the JOYLIFE segment and this woman lost over 400 pounds...by "fast walking" and watching what she ate...said she ate nothing special just healthy options and walked...Hmmmm what a novel idea...walking and eating healthy. LOL
She looked great...and now I am going to leash my dog and go walking..............
-
Cheers to fast walking.
I made lifetime at weight watchers tonight. No weight loss this week but, then I'm not supposed to loose any more until after rads. In three weeks I'm dropping another 5 and then I'll stabilize there. This is our lives we're talking about here.
-
DEB - congratulations! That's terrific. I know I've lost weight but don't want to weigh until end of week. Of course with the weight loss comes the sagging skin!
-
Way to gooooo DEB...that's a great achievement. Share your willpower please!!!!
-
Man Km isn't that the truth. I feel like no matter how thin I get. And I am thin now a size 6 I still have two chins when I smile.
-
Deb that's awesome.
I wish I had reached some even good weight goal, but this week I'm going to be happy that I didn't gain any weight.
Cruise I'm so glad we have until the end of July. I think we both underestimated the power of radiation! Not really the time to cut way back, (especially wine)
Okay, this is perhaps one of the dumbest things I've done in a long time. I purchased a beautiful pair of pants yesterday to wear to NYC this weekend. I didn't try them on (I hate trying things on in the store) and they are about 5 pounds too small. They didn't have a larger size, UGH. I'm hoping that my jacket will cover the 5 pound issue (tummy) They are gorgeous even if too tight. Maybe I'll lose 5 pounds this week, or the pants will stretch out as I wear them (fingers crossed)
I'm taking it a little easier with exercise this week. No weights and giving my arm a break since it seems a little sore and there was a round swollen spot on it last night. I'm done with radiation next week and then it's nose to the diet/exercise grindstone!
-
barbie...two words...WATER PILLS....LOL
-
That's funny Cruise. But Barbie it might be worth a try. Have fun in the city.
-
Cruise a much better idea then the duct tape over my mouth!
-
LOL...duct tape...not a good idea.........but hey there are so many uses for duct tape....maybe I will use some to hold my boob from getting sore underneath from the rads...
-
I may need to borrow some of that duct tape... I gained this week!
-
Me too...weighed 208 again...not sure if its all the watermelon, peaches and cantalope I have been eating lately. It has been so HOT here that I need to cool my insides and water doesn't do the trick. And can't go into the pool until my boob heals from all the rads....
Hope to heal soon so I can enjoy the POOL....
-
Cruise
Watermelon, peaches and cantalope are good for you...its the cookies, cake and candy that I've been having that aren't.....

I was really taking it easy this past week as far as exercise went. My arm felt a little sore and heavy and with only a few rads left I didn't want to risk hurting myself or tiring myself out. I'll go back to beating myself up when I'm all healed and out of the hands of doctors.
Maybe I was extra careful about eating (not consciously) because I was doing a little less, anyway down two pounds!
I'd love to do a fast or cleanse, but really want to wait a couple of weeks so I don't stress by body out. I'll be away all next week on business travel and although there is a kitchen where I'm staying I know it will be a challenge to eat right, oh yes don't forget cocktails which are alway hard for me to pass up.
Some times this seems like such a struggle. Are there people who just eat and live their lives without all this extra thought and diligence???
-
barbie,
Two pounds of weight loss in a week is great. Even one pound a week or a half a pound a week. Sometimes I think slow weight lose is better. I think when we are loosing slow we are more likely making the life style changes that will keep weight off long term. There probably are people who don't over eat and don't think about it. But, for those of us that have over eaten we have no choice but to retrain ourselves. It's hard work but for BC survivors it's also part of survival. It gets easier as it becomes a habit.
-
Now that I am done with therapy....I will be starting to focus aggressively on my diet.
I do not like the weight I have gained and I heard that the pill (Femara) will add some more pounds to this body. So walking I will do.....and eating healthy.
Let's keep this thread going....and encourage others to help others....

Hi
I am sort of doing the zone diet and came down a couple of pounds but admit to some popcorn and light pizza. I am 189 and was 180 last May before chemo and all of my surgeries. The good thing is I am on the way to never going back there again, and the arrimedex I take is slowing me down a bit plus I wonder if it has an effect on weight gain but I can't find any answers on that. A few years ago I was 160 and I think I am insulin resistant so that is why I thought the zone. I hesitate to spend money on a program when arrimedex is $300 and any diet program will not conquer the side effects. Any answers?

Regardless of any problems with medication side effects and such a good diet and exercise is essential to our health and can also go a long way in preventing recurrence. You do not need to spend money on any program if you do not feel like you have it to spend. I think that's why some of us are posting here for the support and encouragement. I do recommend a great Cancer Prevention Diet Book. My favorite is the Strange Cancer Prevention Diet. The author is a registered dietitian and all of her information is researched based. She draws heavily from the Mediterranean diet and has great recipes in her book. I've looked at other books too, like the Schriber. But, the Strange diet was soundly research based and was a diet I thought I could live with. Hope this helps out.

Hi all,
I need some help and I thought you girls may the ones to help.
Last year I did weight watchers and lost 20 kgs which was enough for me to feel the lump in my left breast. To cut a long story short had mx on 16 March 2009. Am now currently on tamoxifen and since being diagnosed have put on nearly all the weight again. None of my clothes fit anymore!!!
I am sadly in need of some inspiration and advice. I seem to be in a free fall and just eat what ever I want and most times it is not the most healthy! Have thought about exercise but am just too tired even to start.
Does anyone have any great ideas for me
Hugs
Viv

vivvy girl,
Be kind to yourself and listen to your body. That being said exercise and a healthy mostly fruit and vegetable based low fat diet has been shown to help decrease side effects of chemo and radiation. It also improves recovery from treatment. It has also been shown to reduce recurrence. So don't exactly put yourself on a diet right now but, do start making healthier choices and move when you can even if it is slow and just a little bit. Baby steps you know.
Hope that helps out some. Best to you.

Okay...I blew it on the 4th...and now I will get back to it. One of my golfing friends has encouraged me to join her in a Belly Dancing class.....I think I will try it and see if it helps get some of the belly fat off...LOL
-
I'm with you girl!!! I just finished my chemo (although I'm still doing Herceptin and Zometa, but the side effects aren't as bad as the chemo) and I have gained 23 pounds since. I so want to lose some weight! Do you have lymphedema issues too?
-
Woo Hoo. Belly Dancing. That sounds so fun.
-
Just found out it's $65 per lesson...not sure if I want to go that route. There are only 4 sessions to take. Hmmmm Maybe walking the dog is the way to go...

Hi ladies -
I would love to join your group! I am just over 2 years out from diagnosis. I had a single mast., 6 months of chemo and 5 weeks of rads. I actually lost 15 lbs on chemo because I had horrible throat sores and I didn't eat like normal (lots of popsicles). BUT, I gained all that weight back and more last summer at our lake house (lots of snacks on the boat). So, I am committed to getting back down to where I was during chemo.
I joined WW last week at work - my employer pays half of the 13 week session! I have never done any diet before and wasn't sure how I would do, but I am actually enjoying it. It has really helped me become more aware of what I eat and I am definitely eating more healthy. I have lost 2-3 lbs just this last week.
Good luck to everyone! I'm here to cheer you on!
-
Yeah Connie,
It's a great program and one can really eat well. It just takes some practice.
-
Welcome Conniehar....Glad to have you join our group.
Please share any WW tips that you can offer...we are here to get well and in shape!!!
