what do you know about the Flamingo Hotel

We actually stayed there 4 years ago but didn't really spend any time at the hotel much

We were always out and about, plus sorry to say my memory isn't that good

hmmm maybe I had to many of those cheap drinks lol

But I do remember the location was great

I think any hotel in the middle of the strip would be great

From what I could see it looks like the Flamingo might be about $40 cheaper a night

For $ 40 per night per person, we could take a few taxi rides for the difference in room prices.   And how much time are we going to spend IN the room?   I have stayed at the Excalibur, Mandolay Bay and they were good locations.   3 days is not a lot of time to go ALL over the place either.   Pick one or 2 and a show or 2.   The Venetian has a marvelous shopping mall and canal ride.

Nancy is right. How much time will be spent in the room? I've stayed at the Flamingo, it is not bad. The grounds with the flamingos, turtles and fish are lovely. Very "tropical". I think it is 2 hotels away from Paris (I believe Bally's is in between the 2). There is a lot to see and do there. It will be hard trying to decide what everyone wants to do. For the brave, the Stratosphere has, I believe, 3 rides on top of the hotel. Just going thru the hotels is fun.  Lots of shopping.We always see a few Elvis's, brides and weddings.

I haven't committed to Vegas yet but I'm sure going to do my best to make it work.  I am 49, non-smoker and drink about 19 - 23 drinks per day.  JUST KIDDDING!!!  I've been known to knock back a couple of wine coolers before my lips get numb!!  My hubby says I am a cheap date because anymore than 3 and I'll tell you all the family secrets!!  That is so not true!!!  I usually have all the family secrets spilt before I have my first drink!  LOL The sad true news is that I use my bed for my aeorbic workout.  NOT how you girls are thinking either...just tossing and turning and wishing I was sleeping.

I have to tell of a funny.  Went to the MGM grand and in the lobby is a HUGE glassed in area with lions.  There was the noise of a lion roaring, but they were all alseep - apparently it is timed to come over the loud speaker periodically.  I had to put my hand over my mouth when one man said something like: Wow, lions even roar in their sleep.

One thing we did on another gathering was put each others cell # on our phones.  We would meet at a certain place at a certain time and if someone was late we could call.  I think some of us will go on our own, while others will go in groups.   Once we all get there, we could have a "welcome" drink, meal and decide exactly who is going to go where.   OR beforehand, pick one show we all want to see together and make that reservation.   Just throwing out ideas for discussion.

I would love to stay somewhere nice and fun!  I was out there last June and we stayed at the MGM grand.  The Stratosphere is not a good one at all, while we were there several robberies occurred.  The folks out there said it has really gone down hill.

I've stayed at Excalibur, MGM, Flamingo and somewhere else I can't remember! As long as we're close to Caesars's for the WOW shopping, it's all good! The northern end by Stratosphere is where it starts to get rough as you get closer to the old part with the laser lights over the street (damned if I can remember what it's called....). All the hotels are wonderful. They try their best to make it a great experience. The Flamingo was the least elaborate, but as long as the bed is clean and we're in the right part of town...

Tried to go on the ride at the Stratosphere once, but the cabbie said they were closed down because parts kept falling off! hehehehehehe

With y'all tossing body parts and retainers around the room, my original room mate - my husband, is looking to be a better option! He would love to be alone while I bang around town with you gals.  Then at least I'd get a good nights sleep. LOL (You'll notice I'm up at 4:20 in the morning typing this. Now WHO gets a good nights sleep?)

Lol Barbe,  I am also up, but it is 7 am.  The upstairs folks were stomping around an hour ago,so I figured why try to get back to sleep.   The recliner is there for a nap later on, when (hopefully) all is quiet.   In the past I could sleep thru almost anything, even a house fire next door before I moved here.  

The area where the laser light show is what used to be the OLD strip.  Golden Nugget is the classic saloon, casino that is worth a visit, but I suggest during the day and with at least one other person.   Last time I was there, 2 yrs ago, there were street beggars and some "unsavory" folks hanging around pan handling.  They said the drug dealers hang out one block over.  The cabbie gave us his # to phone when we were ready to go back and where to get picked up.   he got a nice tip on the ride back.    

Where is Thunder down under playing?  if everyone wants to see that, we can narrow our hotel choice to be closer to it - maybe.

I love Freeemont street.......we always spend one night of our trip on Freemont........wouldn't want to stay there ........I won 50 bucks on the slots at Binnions last week.......and you should have seen the production they made of giving me my money.........what a hoot.

37.....will be 38 before Vegas........non smoker.......but will sneak one or two when I have a few drinks........especially in Vegas.......sound sleeper now that the hot flashes are gone and aunt flow is back!

Hey Jax and Tracey,

I would take Aunt Flo back any day.  At least it was only a few days a month and with the flashes you have to deal with those things everyday of the month....So if I had my choice I would put out the welcome mat for Auntie.....

lol.....I really was thrilled when Aunt Flow took a leave of absence during chemo.......but by the 5 month mark I was anxiously awaiting her return........now if only she would lighten up a bit......I would be a happy camper!

Fredericks is inside the mall at Planet Hollywood. The woman there does an excellent job of fitting and helping to camoflage dents and ripples.

We went to a show at the Stratosphere in February and had to take a cab. The area isn't safe for walking late at night. Ditto at the Riviera. Lots of drug dealing going on, and a much rougher crowd.  I feel really safe at the Paris, walking down from my room to play the poker slots. No riff raff there.  I'd rather pay a little more and not have to worry about getting mugged. Any travel agents here??  Maybe we could get a group rate and drive the price down even further.

That map is awesome to see where all the hotels are.  I know I have already RSVP'd that I am not going, but I keep checking in on this thread just because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE - Vegas and wish I was going! 

So here's my input on the hotels that I have stayed at there, or my immediate family has stayed there:

Rio Suites - very nice & every room is a beautiful suite, but is far from everything, had to cab it everywhere.

Riviera (stayed there twice) - cheap, but a dump, food court awful, pool area small and dirty.

Bally's - very nice for the price, great location, nice pool area, excellent food choices.

Mandalay Bay - (stayed there twice) - my personal favorite!  High prices, but sometimes they offer great deals!  Unbelievable pool area & food!  Kind of far away from other places, we rented a car last time we were there so we drove to the far away places, like Freemont Street and used valet.

Flamingo (my sister stayed there for her honeymoon) - they loved it.  Nice pool, good food.

Mirage & Ceasers Palace - (my dad has stayed @ both places & prefers Mandalay Bay) - both are expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Startosphere - (mom stayed there) - one word - AWFUL!!!!!!!

MGM ~ (my sister stayed there, also on her honeymoon) - the biggest complaint was that since the layout is so weird, the walk from the room was 22 minutes to get to the casino!!!!!!!!!!  Need I say more?

Excalibur - (my sister stayed there) - Did not care for it.  Too many kids & they did not have kids at the time.  Rooms & restaurants outdated.

Circus Circus - totally would never consider staying there, if you go in the "casino" area while you are there you will see why!  It is horrible!

My pick if I was going would be either Paris or Bally's.  I have heard mixed reviews about Paris.  Last time we were in Vegas we rode to the top of the Eiffel tower and got our picture taken, it sits on my table in the living room, I see it everyday!  But as I only visited the casino area, not the rooms, I can't say anything else about it. 

Bally's is right next to Paris and has recently done major renovations.  Haven't checked on pricing on anything, but my dad does know a pit boss for Bally's and if interested he can make a call and see if he would be willing to do a group rate for the Ta Ta Sisterhood group!  And if you ask why does he stay at Mandalay Bay, not Bally's?  He gets rooms comped (like free or $49 a night) at Mandalay Bay since he goes so often! 

So that's just my two cents.

Hi Ladies! Now I wish I was retired!  I need to save every precious vacation day to travel 14 hours to see my wonderful daughter and son-in -law { He will be leaving for his 3rd tour to Iraq} , also my 2 darling Grandchildren.  We see each other 4 times a year. and that isn't enough!  The trip to Las Vegas sounds wonderful. I only have 2 weeks vacation and my Boss made me use 1 week for my exchange surgery!  He told me my ELLECTIVE SURGERYS were an inconvenience to the office!  After my bilat mast. I had hysterectomy\oopherectomy and then exchange surgery and then nipple s. So, now i only have 1 week left.  I should start a thread about uncompassionate , heart less boss's.!  I am having fun just reading your plans.  Love you all,Hugs, Jeanie
