Mom, just how old is DD#2? At what age do they start checking cholesterol? It could be hereditary you know....
-
She is only 9 but I decided a couple of weeks ago to find a nutritionist to help me get the family on a healthier eating track. DD has always been in the 95+ percentile since she was a baby for her height and weight and whenever I'd ask doctors about it they would always say it was fine. Then this last year or two I've been learning more about being in that percentile and the risks factors that come with it. So I enrolled her in this fit kid program and thats how we got the blood testing ordered.
Would you believe her heavy set pediatrician who always seemed to pooh pooh my dd's thicker waist has now lost a bunch of weight herself and suddenly she can understand that spare tire around dd's waist isn't great for her either.!!!! Who says medicine isn't subjective.
-
Doi!
-
Mom, I hope your daughter's numbers move in the right direction. This is the perfect time of year for her to try and improve. How old is she? I often wonder about my boys chol. and told them at their next physicals I'm going to ask them to check it out. Do you think chicken nuggets are high in chol??
Lursa, thinking of you and missing you. I hope you are on the mend.
Thanks for the ice tea! Yummy!

Good thoughts and good vibes going out for everyone. Wish me well with the path report... 11:00 appointment. I did go for ice cream and walked around while I ate it... HUGS
-
breakfast this morning is berry smoothie---lovely shade of raspberry.
No work for me today- off to see onc, pop into support group for a few minutes, say goodbye to fav research nurse and home again to sit w/Mom as she waits for biopsy results, take dd for fitting on prom dress.
Hope all are well, no pain (phantom or otherwise), no humidity just lovely sunny warm day, easy recoveries.
Barbe- you are witty, funny and have a wonderful way with words!

Good Morning all my dear friends,
Just woke up a few minuets ago after a pretty good sleep last night.
I didn't sleep a WINK the night befor and the knocked me up in Hospital evert HOUR for vits (B/P wouldn't come down). By the time I got home @ 2 yesterday I was hurting pretty bad and it took awhile to get ahead of the pain. Then I dozed for a bit, DH made me some chicken nuggets for dinner, and I was OUT for the rest of the night...'cept for haveing to get up and hit the loo & empty drain.
I'm feeling some better now. Putting off having coffee 'cause I'll want a ciggarette too! I can want all I want, but I choose not too have!
Gonna lay back down now.
Bless you for all your good wishes thru the thread. I KNOW it helped me!
xoxo

Lursa, great to see your post. I hope you are managing okay. Sleep is the best thing for you.........gentle hugs.
-
Good morning Lursa! Glad to see you! Rest. Rest. Rest. I know what you mean about not getting any sleep in the hospital. I remember that part well. But now you are home and you can sleep all you want...and that is exactly what you should do!
Hugs and prayers for all who need it.
I'm headed to chemo training today and then I am finished with appointments until chemo on Tuesday. I am looking forward to the next few days. I have been running all week. Time to enjoy the long holiday weekend!!
-
Lursa it's good to hear from you. Wishing you plenty of rest and a speedy recovery.

Ok Dusty Bunnies.....(((((((((((((((((MANY HUGS ALL AROUND)))))))))))))))))
Mom....I have been on Cholesterol Meds for 6 years now....Mine is Hereditary & also influenced by my eating habits & being over weight. My Cholesterol was 310 way back when....Now I have lost a lot of weight ....no longer obese but still over weight....I am at 157 now for total cholesterol....my good (HDL) still needs to come up. But all in all much better. I really watch my Trans Fats....Baked Goodies....Margarine....Saturated Fat.....just because something says Trans Fat free doesn't mean that it is....You really have to watch the ingreadients list & look for Partially Hydrogenated Oils! They are Very Bad for You!!!! The best thing is to go back to Cooking from Scratch....Fresh..... Frozen.....lots of Fiber! It really does Help & by cooking from Scratch you Know exactly what goes into what you are eating!
Makraz.....Baked Chicken Nuggets are OK....try & Make your Own! Here is a place to go to get Healthy recipes for Kids by the American Heart Association.......

((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))) all around for chemo appointments, healing surgeries, and those waiting for results.
How can people have time to make war when it seems like it takes everything you have just to keep yourself and your family balanced in all areas in this life. Never could figure that one out.
-
Hugs back at ya mom. One does wonder about what you just said.
-
Julz, I do make my own chicken nuggets sometimes, but my kids always want the frozen ones! I buy the white meat baked nuggets. I have a book called Deceptively Delicious, healthy recipes for kids. Yo puree veggies and fruits and add them to certain recipes. I did it for a couple months but my kids would not eat it. So, I stopped. Now I just make everything homemade.
-
Julz I thought she specifically said mine/ours wasn't hereditary but wouldn't be surprised if it was. Although if its any comfort to you my mom has has had high cholesterol for years and is on medication, is overweight, loves anything sweet , has gone through colon cancer and chemo (about 9 or 10 yrs ago) and at 81 is healthy as can be. Helps me to think about that when I get bummed at having bc at 52.
-
I have been on cholesterol-lowering drugs for years. Mine, like Julz, is both what I eat and genes. My grandmother had it and the doctor prescribed a low cholesterol diet. At that time it was no cream, no butter, no cheese and no eggs. Since my grandmother was Pennsylvania Dutch that's all she ate. She stopped eating basically and fainted a lot. She also lost weight, about 30 pounds, but her cholesterol did not come down enough to make a difference.
I think a lot of illnesses are genetically linked. How else do you explain Mom2Two's mother versus Jim Fix who died at 42 of a heart attack. For those who don't know who he was - he wrote THE book on running.
-
Pathology results from the stereo biopsy are B 9........ Wooo Hoooooo. I asked for and got the full report, but surgeon says don't go looking up all the words or I will go nuts. Repeat bi lat mammogram in 6 months and the area biopsied WILL feel hard and lumpy for at least 3 months. And there will be tingling and even some pain, but that is normal for the healing process.
Lursa, very gentle hugs, and as much restful, peaceful sleep as you can. Both the mind and body heal while sleeping, so I have been told.
Hugs all around, Nancy
-
