Back from "pink ribbon fitness" class and now off to walk the dog-going to give that pedometer a work out today!
kmmd-congrats on the progress, keep it up!
-
Go Kate! Muscle woman!
How did the pedometer work for you spunky? I remember using mine all the time when I was walking a lot....
Another 13.5 mile bike ride today. Swapping out the bike seats was possible and it was a much better ride - love the old seat! Got my old ding bell too and put it on the correct side. All is good now with the new bike!
Also, today I planted 3 heirloom tomatos, 3 sweet basil, and 7 summer bulbs! Tomorrow I am hoping to plant 2 really pretty purple rhododendrons (sp?) I love purple-ish blue, my fav! Great weather here.
Enjoy everyone!

I think I'm addicted to BCO! It was down for awhile this afternoon/evening, and I must have checked it a dozen times to see if it had come back up. What's with that?!
Kate, YAY to arm muscles!! It sounds like you're doing great! We've all come so far! Spring, it sounds like you're already giving that new bike quite a workout! Good for you! And Spunky, how's the pedometer working out?
This was the first day I was able to get in a really long walk again. I've absolutely got to go back to doing it first thing in the a.m. Walking Teek for 1/2 hr. just isn't cutting it for me, and it's starting to show in both my thighs and my mood. I absolutely need those 5 mile walks to feel good. Lucky Kari, being able to walk on the beach in Cabo!
Hope everyone had a beautiful Easter or Passover! Tomorrow's a new week. Here's to one full of enough energy to walk, ride, plant, or whatever makes you happy and healthy! Deanna

Hello Ladies - How is everyone? Working out, moving around?
Although, I had not posted, I still did a lot of biking, walking and yoga during the past week. Tonight, I did hatha yoga for 90 minutes and rode my bike all over the place (to work, to yoga) . Even though I am doing a lot of exercising I am still gaining weight from Herceptin. Actually, it is mostly water, and hopefully it will come off after I am done with treatment. I can't wait.
Deanna- perhaps getting a doggie backpack to put Teek in, when he gets tired, would work. That way you could get to do your walk, but you don't have to bring him home first.

Here is one Deanna: http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=216385362&sellerid=18955782
-
Thats so cute!
After 3 days in a row of 13+ mile bike rides, tonight is a day of rest! yes!!!

I have the same addiciton Deanna!!!
-
Wow! Spring, Wow! You are amazing!
-
2 days of rest in a row! ha!! Today is Yoga I think. We'll see I have a trip to pack for that is looming!
-
I had a great 4 mile bike ride today in Prospect Park after a tuina massage. I treated myself to a massage b/c I had a backache. But all is good now. I feel like I am new.
How is everybody? What is going on? Are you ladies doing some walking, biking or other work-outs?
~hugs to all~
-
survivor, what's a tuina massage? Whatever it is, I want one!
I've been laying low on exercise for a couple of days due to a stabbing pain in my left shin after 2 back-to-back days of 5+ mile walk/runs. I'm better today, but I guess I tried to get back to that intense level of walking too quickly and my body rebelled.
For anyone trying to shed a few pounds, this excellent, simplified list of healthy foods came across my desk this a.m.:
http://blog.metaboliceffect.com/2012/04/11/10-healthiest-fat-loss-foods/
The bison doesn't appeal to me, but the cocoa powder is a nice surprise! Deanna
PS ~ Here's another interesting email I just read about some common exercises that are really bad for us. (No, jumping jacks are not mentioned.)
-
So guess what, 3 days of no exercise, you all know that is weird for me. But this morning I had a 6AM call, over at 730 and I did the elliptical at home before "regular" work at 9. so YAY, I broke the cycle.
Off from Work tomorrow! women's retreat at the beach for the weekend. I will eat too much and exercise too little. and i will miss my biking!!
( but it will be nice to get away...Ouch on the stabbing pains Deanna!
Jealous of the bike ride, Survivor!

I have been chasing my tail and not getting anything done. I am on 3-11 for the next seven nights. Then I am off for 4 days to go to my son's wedding. They are getting so stressed out I don't even talk to them at this time. Panic has hit!!! I am just taking it each day. I am exercising with the dog and trying to do some yoga and other stretches in between. Just get me over this and then I should be back on track. Broke the back window on my SUV. Closed it and it shattered in a million and one pieces. It was fixed and like new. My roommate from college is here and she is going to the wedding too. I need support!! Hope everyone is doing great and had a Happy Easter. Turned cold again but suppose to be in the 80's by the end of the weekend. What is up with that.
Teek is cute! Will he get very big. Haven't heard anymore from the lawyer about the house. But will call him in my spare time. Oh yes!! Keep moving.
-
Had a great time at bc fitness class this morning, followed by a plant-based cooking class. Now off to walk the dog and put a few more steps on that pedometer!
-
I was away for the weekend but did 1 hour on the elliptical in the hotel fitness center Saturday and 45 tonight. Short walk on the beach. Not too bad!
-
I am not able to get onto the mesage boards.... G RRRR...
Harley

huh?
When I try to go onto the threads to read them, it won't let me on.... when I tried to get into the
FORUM INDEX, it kicks me out!

Hi All!! Easing back into reality, and it ain't pretty! LOL!!
Harley, what's up with that? hmmmmm
Kate, so cool about your DH noticing your muscles! I need to get muscles!!
Deanna, interesting about the healthy foods and cocoa, I may try that at work when I get a chocolate craving! A guy here at work said he mixes cocoa with coconut water for his chocolate fix. That carrier for Teek may be a good idea! Cool of Survivor to think of it!
Everyone else, I've enjoyed reading your posts. Spring, you did good at your retreat!
So, while in Cabo did LOTS of beach walking, and lemme tell ya, walking back to the house was not easy, its all UPHILL and up BUNCHES of stairs, so legs were burning everyday!! That's good! So I felt good about exercise, we also would have yoga class a few times and did rock wall pushups and pounding sand - sitting in the sand and pumping our legs, really digging them into the sand over and over, it was like riding a bike with the tension really high, it was hard! We were breathless after minutes of doing this!! We improvised!!
Joy, oh the joy of pre-wedding stress, best you lay low! What's up with your window shattering? My windshield needs replacing, a stupid rock hit it, and BAM the darn chip RAN and the streak is in my field of vision...ouch $389 it will cost me...I swear its been one repair after another with my car, she's 10 years old this year and she's crying out for attention... LOL
-
Getting back to walking and the gym this week, and I can't believe how much it elevates my mood and clears my head. I also had a massage this afternoon (a $39 Groupon deal) that was pretty good and seems to have relieved some of my lower back pain. The place I went is actually a chiropractor's office, and they also do accupuncture. I picked up a brochure on the latter, wondering if it would help anything. If any of you do it (Kari?), let me know what it's done for you!
Joy, how was the wedding??? We're anxious to see photos! And spunky, share something with us from that cooking class you took. Did they give you recipes?
The photos from your trip (FB) are so beautiful, Kari. And what's the story with George Clooney? Did you get to talk to him? What was he like in person? Harley, did your problem with BCO get resolved? Spring, how as the retreat? Deanna
-
Great questions Deanna! I'm curious too for the answers!!
I did acupuncture, I was referred through my PCP and they covered 12 sessions. This was right after rads. Honestly, I never felt much relief for back/hip pain. The physical therapy I was referred to after acupuncture ended helped me more. I see my chiro pretty regularly (although I'm weeks behind on a visit). Xrays, both through PCP and chiro show disc narrowing in my neck and low back in the areas I always seem to be bothered by. Good luck if you try acupuncture!! Let us know what you decide.
I never talked to Clooney! I made it seem that way didn't I? I was just so giddy! LOL! We all went to Flora Farm, a really neat place in the middle of nowhere, organic farm, that has evolved into more...anyway, the hostess (we were there about 4pm and took dozens of pics) told us (after my sister in law questioned her about the place being a fav of George's) and she told us that he was going to be at the restaurant that evening at 7:30!! what are the odds of that? so anyway, we followed him around and took pics, he was with Stacy Keibler, Cindy Crawford, her hubby and kids and some others. We were sitting pretty close, but darn it, I only had my cell phone, it was the one time I left my camera in my room! My nephew got his autograph. We didn't want to bother him. Stacy saw my sister in law's camera (which died of course) and yelled "paparrazzi"...REALLY? That was lame, LOL!!!!!!!
-
Wow! What a trip you had Kari! Visiting a fab place and meeting fab people. Great! Meanwhile, I can only see Buddhist monks in the park while I ride my bike.
Deanna - I hope you had a nice massage today. I am sorry for not responding to you sooner about tuina, which is a Chinese medical message. All the different meridian points are messaged to ensure better lymph node clearing (back and a bit on the front too) They always help my back ache.
Oh....before I forget....I should let you all know that my CT scan came back clean. Thank goodness! I have fibroids that had been acting up and so I had some pain in my lower abdominal area. So ALL is well. I am releived. Even doing yoga felt better today. I also went for a bike ride and a long walk in the Brooklyn Botenical Garden to celebrate the great news.
-
Deanna- I also did acupuncture before and it helped. I was getting it at You Can Thrive during my chemo to detox my liver. Also, it was helping my hurting knees. An old professor of mine who works at a pain management clinic in San Diego said that acupuncture works for 75 % of the people.
-
I am very interested in tryinc acupuncture for LE. On my list. Has anyone heard of this? I figure what the heck.
The retreat was great! My daughter is in college where we were so I got some DD visiting time in too!
10 mile bike ride today, chilly outside! That's okay.. soon it will be hot and we'll be wishing for some chill!
-
Acupuncture for LE? Never heard of it. Where did you hear about it, Spring?
-
Survivor, congrats on the all clear!! WOOHOO!!!
Spring, how cool that your retreat was near your DD? WONDERFUL!
I'm not sure about acupuncture for LE, hmmm that may be something to ask my pcp about since she's the one who referred me to the acupuncture clinic before. Sounds reasonable to me Springie!
FINALLY got out for a walk last night, the weather has FINALLY turned into spring weather. About time! Everything was green and the sheep were there thinning out the landscape! Hope they are there tonight as we will have our granddaughter all weekend and she will love saying Baaaa!
-
Kari - let us know how your granddaughter likes the sheep.
No work out today. Just rode my bike to work and back. I did a lot of moving around yesterday. It was hard getting up this morning.

-
Ok didn't exercise, went out to dinner with DH instead! Yoga day retreat tomorrow... and I'm leaving early for a bike ride!
I don't remember where I heard about acupunture for LE, it's out there. I had a friend try not sure it did anything one way or the other. I do think it's controvercial.
-
Yoga day retreat and a nice long bike ride!!! In a sun shower! That was cool....
hope the weekend is good girlies!! -
Hi guys, only an ok workout week. Next week needs to be better. Spring I didn't have much luck with the accupuncture for LE. It didn't hurt it, but, didn't help it either. I'd be interested to hear if you try it and think it helps, maybe I need to try again
-
Another 13+ mile bike ride today, in the drizzle! Was warm while cycling then got cold! Had to come home and get dry things on. I had on a rain proof jacket, but I think I sweat so much under, I was wet from the inside out!
Kate, no immediate plans, but I am very curious about accupuncture overall. I feel some level of respect for a therapy that old...
-
It's rainy and cool... chilly.... I haven't had a chance to go outside and exercise....
Maybe tomorrow.
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!
