    Joanne,

Nice!  Water is so relaxing, too!!

and you get a great workout!

My MIL didn't want to go to Coastal Grand Mall today, so I got a break...

I may go out for a walk now...   I know, I should have gone out sooner, especially since the weather is so nice, but I had some errands to run.

    Hugs

Anyone else having a problem with posting?  I've just lost my post 2x!  So, here goes again...

spunkyboobs, welcome!  As far as pedometers go, I try to look for ones with recognizable brand names.  And a display screen you can see and buttons that aren't too small are important to me.  Obviously you need a steps mode, and I think a distance mode is good to have.  Things like total time elapsed is good if you don't wear a watch or carry a cell phone.  Some other optional features that may or may not interest you would be distance in kilometers, talking (e.g. calls out each 500 steps), and an alarm for emergency situations.  Oh, and I like a decent size spring clip, so that I won't lose it.  Hope that helps, and hope you'll stay around to motivate us!

Love the Buddhist monk image, survivor!  Oh, I wish you'd been able to get a photo of him!  It makes me smile just to imagine it!

Yesterday I met a woman at a neighbor's home who is an almost 20-year bc survivor, dx'd in 1993.  With others around, I didn't feel comfortable asking her anything about her dx, but 20 years is inspiring no matter what her original dx!       Deanna

Hi all!  I've been down with the flu, UGH!  Did yoga class Monday night and that was the end of my exercise.  Back at work today, but feeling low still.  Have a pap smear tomorrow (oh goody gumdrops, haha)

I've been thinking about all of you and the gorgeous weather the rest of the country is having besides us!  Storm after storm and in the 50's all week...perfect weather though for being down though.

Cath, Deanna - yes, I too wish I took a photo of that monk. Then, believe it or not, when I came home I realized that I could have used my phone camera that I had in my bike basket all along. Well... it was just not meant to be.

I was out in NJ visiting a dear friend of mine and we took an amazing walk in the nearby woods for over an hour. I was panting from walking real fast but my lungs felt so clean and refreshed.

Kari- Try drinking ginger/green tea. That always helps me. Hope you feel better real soon. Sending hugs!

Record nice weather here.  Out for a long good walk and soaked up some sunshine.  Winter is so hard on the neuropathy and makes walking around outside so hard I just love this.  One of those days that make me think the last few years were worth days like this. So, mentioned to a friend on facebook that this was such a beautiful day.  Which she promptly responded to by lecturing me on how it is wierd, not normal, and besides, it is the weather responsible for tornados in the area this week and I shouldn't be enjoying something that made others so miserable.  I have to say my jaw dropped.  I don't get that logic. So, I just moved on but had to ask you guys.  In a strange way do you ever think you enjoy surprise nice things more just because you've gone through so much to be here to experience them?  I would never ever say there was a silver lining to cancer.  Maybe I what I really mean is that when you've been through what we have, and you know you can't predict the future but you know what statistics you're facing, you better stop and notice the surprise good things when they happen

Kmmd, Ignore the person who rained on your parade. We have to enjoy the pleasant surprises as they come. With that in mind I need to go outside and enjoy the fact that it is not raining, not snowing and is in fact somewhat sunny. Have a great evening.

    Kate, that person has issues.

It is lovely to enjoy a moment, the beauty, the weather, a smile, a feeling. They are precious. You are right, I would never say that I am "thankful" to have gone through all this. But you are right, it does give a unique perspective of appreciating everything! Hold on to that!

I biked 13+ miles hard. DH's bike broke at the start so I went out alone on the greenway trail. At the end we drove to a bike store and got DH a new bike! i am so pleased for him. It was a "reycled" bike (a return within 30 days or used in an "ad") so a $500 bike for $200! I am going to get one when they have more. He got the last one!

Tomorrow will be another ride! And a ton of gardening. I have weeds to deal with ! They are staring to take over my gardening spots!!

kmmd-sounds like you have a toxic facebook friend, don't let her bring you down. It is unfortunate so many have been harmed by the natural disasters that were experienced in parts of the country.  However, we must relish the moments of joy we find-especially after the tough road so many of us are following. Enjoy guilt-free.

Kmmd, Extreme weather is now a fact of life. It doesn't mean we should feel guilty about enjoying a nice day when it comes around. Bad things happen in the world everyday. Being miserable doesn't fix it. Enjoy the sunshine.

Kate: never mind what your --as Spunkyboobs put it - "toxic" FB friend says. I did notice, however, that people at times have a hard time understanding our new found energy and positiveness, as if they would like us to remain weak, sick and miserable. Granted, I was like that last year. But I worked very hard to get over a huge hump and nobody will take away my enjoyment of life again. Even if it means I have to cut ties with them. A close "friend" of mine tried bringing me down like that last year. And you know what ? I just made her email a spam. If I chose to open it, fine, but mostly, I don't even care. She is not a friend. We have been thought so much that I have no time to waste on miserable people.

Oh, and by the way, isn't this awesome weather caused by the the solar flares that occur naturally every so often?

Today, I only rode my bike to work and back.

I agree with everyone; life is too short to let any negative people into your life.

IF I find myself around a negative person, and one of my new pink sister friends is

sort of that way, I will try to re-direct the conversation to another topic, or to try to turn it into

    a postive one...

It's been rainy here....  stilll is, even though it's sunny now...

    Hugs

Kate, I can't even fathom your friend's twisted thinking, and I don't think her science or logic are correct anyway.  I wouldn't waste another moment on such an absurb comment.  And I often think about what a NP @ UCLA said to me shortly after I was dx'd -- that bc would change me, for the better.  And I think what you're describing is one of the ways I've changed -- now so much more aware of and thankful for life's simple pleasure/moments.  I have a feeling your friend totally missed the awareness you had and were expressing when you commented on the weather.

I was busy all weekend working at a fundraising event.  Way out of my usual routine, and I'm anxious to get back to walking & the gym tomorrow!     Deanna

Thanks guys. --We're going to just make that comment a spam I think

Had a good weight lifting day today.  Tonight blasted some music, windows open with perfect cool/warm breeze coming in as DH and I talked and laughed and I made a new recipe. Totally health Morrocan meatballs with carrots and couscous.  A little asparagus on the side.  He actually liked it too.  I cooked with the flip flops for the neuropathy and the lymphedema stuff on, but, just sat there and reflected on how good life was today

I found again a previous CD/DVD form Susan Deason my favorite yoga person.  It is a bonus CD on relaxing and refecting on the day and preparing for sleep.  I heard it, but, for some reason yesterday I really heard it. In it she talks about reflecting on 3 things you did that day to care and nurture yourself (good exercise, breathing deep during stress, time to meditate etc.), 3 things you plan the next day to care and nurture yourself, and 3 things that you are grateful for.  Maybe I just needed to hear it at the right time but it really resonated with me. I'm going to try to do that each day.  Today I'm grateful for the ability to have and enjoy cooking good healthy food, the time I spent laughing and enjoying the day with DH, how good it felt to feel strong and exercise hard.

WE had a nice rainbow yesterday evening.  A neighbor took a picture of it, and posted it on FB.  IT is even on YouTube... LOL

Well, the sun is out, and I am dressing in my running clothes, so I think I will go out and try to get some exercise...

A liked this FB quote from a family member.  It reminded me of Kate's recent question.

"If you cannot see the blessings around you, you are not looking."

Have a great week, everyone!     Deanna

I was just rereading the responses to Kate's question above, and I just love the way we all come at it from slightly different perspectives, but all so positive!  I also wanted to share something very similar to the 3 things lists Kate shared from Susan Deason -- something I recently read somewhere about finding more happiness and have dabbled in doing, but want to start doing with more intention. Much like Kate's lists, the idea is to write down 3 things at the end of the day that made you the happiest that day.  Seeing them in writing will enable you to recognize them so that you can intentionally add more of whatever it is to your life, which in turn should make you happier.  It might even reveal some things you aren't even consciously aware of.  As an example, one of my first insights was noticing how really happy I felt after visiting a puppy store, which resulted in a few visits to a couple of local animal shelters and adopting a little dog that has added a lot of joy and laughs to our household.     Deanna

Kate, my jaw dropped at your friend's reaction too, and I can absolutely agree with you about finding the silver linings and being so much more appreciative of the beautiful things in life.  There are bad things happening every minute of everyday to somebody, but we have to focus on the beautiful moments or we'd all be on anti-depressants.  LOVE your 3 things by the way!!  Have to look up this yoga person.  Smiling at the visuals of your cooking.  Oh, I would love your recipe for the meatballs and would love to be your facebook friend!!

Deanna, love that quote!  and ptdreamers, You go girl!

Springie, YAY on the new bike for DH and I see your smile from the west coast on all that cycling you're doing!!

Hi to All!!  Been doing some yoga moves/stretches and one treadmill walk yesterday.

I did a full circle around Prospect Park (4 miles) yesterday, so today, much like Spring, I am having some pain in my calves too. But it was worth it. Great spring weather here.
