termite/Emma, those flowers are gorgeous.  Seems to me that cake decorating has really evolved a lot.  My mom could do work something like that but she never took a lesson in her life.  She just had a love for cooking, and baking and so I think she just memorized ( at some point ) which of the icing tips did what.  Since she had myself and my sister --- only too happy to eat the results after she was done, she could make up some icing and practice a lot.  Back when she was making wedding cakes for some of my friends and family -- no one was doing really fancy work like your picture.  Every now and then I go into "images" and look for cakes to use when we have a birthday here.  We haven't had anyone for quite some time now.

Termite, it's hard to believe those flowers are icing! They're gorgeous. That must be fun to create something that pretty.

Today was laundry day. I loaded up all the accumulation and headed to town. Sunday morning is sometimes a good day but the Laundromat was fairly crowded. Still, I managed to get a couple of triple load machines and one double loader. The owner has installed a lot of beautiful new machines in addition to the up-to-date ones that were already there. It takes a while to feed $4.25 of quarters into a machine! The dryers are the old ones but they still work well.

The owner and some of her daughters were there doing bedding for some of the lodges. She and her husband keep the place up really well. I usually take $20 of quarters and come home with a few of them left over.

DH is working outside building some benches and a couple of small corner tables that will be a part of the deck. I'm hoping this is the last purchase of lumber!

Our weather has turned humid and too hot for our liking. I'm sitting here inside with the a/c on so it's pretty comfortable.

I am developing a fever blister on my mouth. It's a type of herpes. I was smart enough to leave home without my medication so I'll just have to let it run its course.

Sure hope Blondie is having a good vacation. Thinking of you, Mommarch, as you continue treatment.

    Happy Sunday to all.

So much news from everyone. Unfortunately some of it is not so good. Mommarch, I'm sorry that the chemo you've been getting hasn't been effective. I hope this next one is the right one to knock that thing out of your liver.

Sandra, that is such good news about Mike and that you'll be able to travel to the Florida Keys! I've always wanted to vacation there. It's very high on my bucket list as are several other places on the east coast. I've been to Orlando, Washington DC and Philadelphia but still want to see Boston, New York City, and the Keys.

Joan, your kitten is adorable and I think she looks like a Gracie. I bet she's really cuddly. I would love to get a kitten but our Golden Retriever is scared to death of cats. Whenever she sees the neighbor's kitty she slowly approaches it, the cat hisses and Bailey comes running back to us whining.....poor thing.

Carole, Loved the picture of you and Puffin. Looks like you had a great time. I would also like to see a picture of your deck when it's complete. Your DH has really accomplished the project quickly and it sounds lovely. When you leave your trailer there in the off-season, will you cover it and is there someone always at the campground to keep an eye on things? It seems you've settled right into the community of your 'home away from home'.

Termite, your frosting flowers are beautiful! I'm not sure I'd have the patience to do that but envy people who have the talent.

It's been a hot, hot and dry summer here so far. Temperatures have been in the 90's most days and into triple digits some of the time. The last few days have cooled into the low 80's which is more to my liking. We've been busy with grandchildren activities and visits to our 'home away from home' in Central Oregon too. A couple weeks ago we enjoyed a Doobie Brothers concert at the Amphitheatre in Bend. It was fun getting these old bones up and dancing!

Hope Blondie is enjoying her time in Florida and everyone is having a relaxing weekend.

Luvmaui, just had to write and tell you I have been to Corvallis many times. My sister just retired from teaching there.....37 years total, 27 in Corvallis. She ran the WINGS program until this June, a transitional program for developmentally delayed ages 18 - 21. She also taugh other places too. Anyway, she came for my surgery in April and is returning late August to be with me for a few weeks and when I have my exchange surgery in September. Her name is Pat Templeton. Know her? Corvallis is not that big. I am looking forward to going back, especially since she and her husband just moved to a house with 5 acres! I don't know how long I need to wait to be able to travel, or how long until I will feel like it. I have one more chemo treatment and they have been rough. Corvallis is a pretty place

Luvmaui, good to have you check in. It was so nice on the Oregon coast the summer we were there. I don't remember being hot. Of course, we stayed at campgrounds on the ocean.

There was some stormy weather in MN last night but, thankfully, we just had rain and a little thunder and lightning. No strong winds. We rolled in our electric awning, which can't be tied down like the manual awnings, and went to bed. In this situation the manual awning would be better, but such is life.

DH and I are going to the gym this morning. This will be his first time at Anytime Fitness.

I hear gentle rain on the roof of the camper.

Hope Blondie is having fun in FL. Healing thoughts for Mommarch.

Saying hi on this hot and humid morning --- and it will get hotter yet ( it's early right now ) and a lot more humid.  Heat index will make it about 107 or 8, but who is counting one more degree at those temps.  I think as we live under so much shade --- it may go the other way for us -- maybe more like 106 or even 5.  Hard to say.  Otherwise, a usual day today.  Have to return something when I'm out at Wal-Mart's feeing the cat there -- then onto the body shop where my door hinges will be replaced.  I'm not sure I totally trust what the guy says about those hinges, but I really have to slam my door to get it to close properly and if I don't "fix" the hinges I will make it all worse.  My friend used him and over $1,000.00 later and at least two attempts -- her problem was not solved.  I will let this man do what he can, but if that doesn't fix the issue....then I'm done with him.  He is the one who says if I don't do this ( actually Dh is the one who consulted with him and got this info ) I will make my door much worse.  Hmmm, will see I guess but I doubt I'd give him more chances.    My friend's problem was one I think could be iffy -- it involved the computer system in her car.  If this man can't do a door hinge properly which is a far different and should be a much easier thing on the first go -- then I think I'm not going to 'bother' him anymore.

After errands are done it will be another day spent pretty much inside the house.  Going to look for my doggy pool outside and hopefully fill it so the dogs can splash a bit when they get hot.  I may bring them inside for awhile too --- we will see how it goes.

Judy, my daughter lives in McMinnville, Or.  Not sure I spelled that right.  I am not sure if it is considered a costal area, but since her daughter ( my first grand-child ) lives there with her two babies ( my only great-grandchildren ) she wouldn't get too excited for temps.  She did get used to heat and humidity ( though it wasn't all that bad ) when she spent a yr. here.

    Will see you all later.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

    Hello All,

I don't post often, but think of you very often. Mommarch - you are always in my prayers. May the Taxotere be just what is needed, with few side effects.

Blondie, May you be having the time of your life in Florida!

Sandra, What wonderful news about Mike!! So happy for you dear lady.

We just got back from some time on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with 5 of our 7 precious grandchildren. What a blessing. I couldn't help think that one year ago, I was still in chemo with no hair, no big toenails & not much energy. What a difference a year can make. Thank God for these blessings!! Here's a pic of 4 of the 5 grands.

    Paulaimage

PS - Carole & Puffin - Loved your pic!! You two are so cute. Wish we all could meet some day.

Sunshine, I've been on anastrasole (Arimidex) for 3 years with almost no side effects. At first I had cold chills rather than hot flashes and then that went away. I have more tendonitis and no joint pain. Nothing Tylenol can't handle.

There's a mountain range that runs thru Washington and Oregon. West of the mountains it's a maritime climate with usually a lot of rain and cool temps. East of the mountains it gets hot as blazes and it's more a semi-desert climate. I'm on the west side and our high is predicted to be 74, and stay in the 70's all week. I take a lined windbreaker to the coast and sometimes need a sweater under it.

I'm taking a little rest this afternoon. Got started on a project I wanted to do last summer but chemo changed those plans - the grass has grown over the flat bricks I have around my flower beds. Our clay soil is hard to work with when it's hot and dry so I've been waiting for a nice rain. We got the same rain that Carole got yesterday, so this morning I went out with my manual sod cutter and cut away the grass along the bricks by the flower bed in the middle of the backyard. Still have the flower bed along the garage to do, and the flower bed along the alley, but too hot and humid to do any more outdoor work today.

I ran some errands and worked out at the Y - did the leg machines and walked 2 miles on the treadmill. Was so pleased to come home and see that Lew had finished mowing the yard, The grass had gotten so long while he was gone over the weekend and more rain is expected again tonight.

Now that I've had time to catch my breath, I think I'll work on organizing the photos from our Alaska cruise. I still like to have an actual album of printed photos, so I go through the computer pics and select which ones will go into the album and Lew and I together compose the pages and he prints them out.

Sunshine, I've been on anastrozole (Arimidex) for 8 1/2 months, no side effects at all.

MomMom: What adorable grandchildren! I've been thinking the same thing, what a difference a year makes. Last year I didn't even have the energy to deadhead my flowers without getting short of breath, and I'm also enjoying eating the raspberries from my garden (onc wouldn't let me eat them last year, said there was no way to clean them well with all their little creases).

Mysunshine48.........such a small world! Your sister's name sounds very familiar, but I'm not sure where I would have met her. I can't believe you've actually been to Corvallis! I'm happy to hear you like our little town (it swells to 80,000 people when OSU is in session, lol) and the next time you're out for a visit we definitely need to get together! I completed my 5th year on Arimidex June 2014 with only minor joint pain and would have taken it longer had my onc. requested it.

Carole, the Oregon Coast is beautiful and only 45 minutes from our house, but we only seem to get over there about twice a year. It doesn't get warm enough over there for my DH as it rarely reaches the 70s. He'd rather drive almost 3 hours over the mountain pass to Central Oregon where the weather is always warm and dry in spring & summer with snow in winter. This summer has been very wierd in Corvallis as we usually have cool days with some rain until the 4th of July and winters are rain, rain and more rain from Nov. until May. Last winter we had snow, very little rain and now all of this heat.

Jackie, McMinnville is only about 50 miles north of Corvallis.......in beautiful wine country! We've spent many weekend afternoons on wine tasting tours, with lunch in McMinnville. I have an idea...... You, Carole and Sunshine need to coordinate a trip out here and we'll visit the coast, wine country, Portland and Central Oregon!

It's getting late so I better stop my ramblings. My DIL Kari and I have a golf lesson tomorrow at 11:30am and I need to be sharp as the golf pro really gives us a workout. :)

Thoughts are with Mommarch tonight and hoping the drs. can put her on the new chemo asap. Also thinking about Blondie and the fun I hope she's having in Florida. Paula your grandchildren are so cute......bet they keep you on your toes.

    Nighty night all!

Luvmaui, If you want, send me your name in a private message and I will ask Patbif she knows you. She knows so many people. Every time I am out there and we go anywhere, she runs into several people she knows ne way or another. Yes, Imhave been there on football weekends. One time it took forever to get from the Portland airport to Corvallis. It was a game day, OSU vs OS! Not a good day to be on route 5!

Hope all are doing well and whatever place you are in this Breast cancer sisterhood, God will grant you health snd peace. I would appreciate prsyers for no new SE next week as I have my last treatment on Thursday.

    Mornin all

Mommarch- praying this new plan will be the right one for you.

I am trying to recoup from the last week. It was great having all the grandchildren together, but never did get all 5 children together - youngest son was "too busy". He came over Fri night to see my oldest DD. And family, but Rob had already left to put Lu to bed when Tim got here. Lu leaves tomorrow, so if he doesn't get by today, he will miss her completely.

Wasn't exactly the week I had in mind. I thought the guys were going to take the kids somewhere each day, and then we would all get together for dinner. Our next door neighbors were a part of this plan, as we have all been together for Thanksgiving and July 4th several times, always in Ga.

Unfortunately, my SIL and neighbor sat around in my garage drinking day after day. Before they got here, my SIL wanted to go to three of his favorite non-chain restaurants while here. We went to one the first night they were here. We were supposed to go to the second the night I took the grandkids for photos. His wife, my DD, wasn't going that night, I had surprised her with planning a get together of her best friends from when she lived and worked here. Not a big deal, 3 people, but she was thrilled. I called Tracy as we finished pictures to tell her we were on the way to the restaurant. She replied that Scott was too drunk to drive and with her ankle broken, of course, she couldn't drive either. So the decision was made to order pizza from restaurant #3 that night and we would go to restaurant #2 on Fri nite. Nope- by dinner time Fri night, again the guys were too drunk to drive, so we ended up with take- out from #2as well. I am amazed that 2 grown men, with decent jobs- the neighbor is the head of the ER at our best local hospital, the busiest trauma center in Broward County- could (and would) drink non stop for 8 days. And not just a little annoyed.

We did have a birthday party for Lu while they were here, and the theme was Disney Princesses. My youngest daughter used to dress as a princess and do birthday parties, and she still had her Snow White dress, so Snow White came to the party. Lu was in awe, especially when Snow White called her by name, and stayed to play with her. It was really fun. Here's a picture:

Anne, you must be ready for a rest after all that company. The picture is cute.

It's only in the high 70's outside but it is humid for MN. I just turned on the a/c in the camper. I heated up the kitchen/living area this afternoon by using the stove and making a potato salad. We'll have some for dinner and there will be leftovers.

I can hear some gentle rain on the roof. DH is outside still working on benches that are part of the deck structure. I'll be very glad when he gets this work finished and the deck gets cleaned up and ready for enjoying it.

We played golf this morning at the nearby Eagle's View golf course. Then came back here and had some lunch.

It's quiet here at Pine Hollow on a weekday. Hope everybody is having a good Tuesday.

Sunshine, my name is Judy Sailor and I would love to find out if we know each other or have mutual friends. Yes Corvallis is the right size for running into people you know everywhere which can be a bit annoying when you just want to run to the grocery store without makeup!

Not much goin on here today. I just returned from a golf lesson and also played 9 holes. It's a warm 85 degrees so I'm also thinking of making a potato salad, Carole.

Anne, sounds like you had quite a full week! Have a good evening everyone.

    Hi to everyone.

Puffin, I wonder if you're having the same weather that we're having today. It was sunny and warm the first part of the day and overcast all afternoon. DH and I took the bikes to Akeley, on Hwy 34, and biked from Akeley to Walker and back, 19 miles round trip. We had lunch at a bar and grill on Hwy 34 near Nevis called Bullwinkle. I had a huge delicious burger and dh had the daily special, a macaroni "hot dish," which was similar to goulash. In MN any dish like a casserole is called a hot dish.

It's warm enough today that we have the a/c going and are happy to have it working. DH has been outside finishing up his carpentry. I will be very glad for him to put away the tools. I had meant to buy a broom today to sweep off the sawdust on the new deck but broom wasn't on my list and I didn't buy one. Guess I'll have to hose off the deck.

Thoughts go out to Mommarch. Looking forward to hearing a vacation report from Blondie.

Hello to all.  I've had a long day today, but a fairly good one.  At the end of the day here Dh got his truck back -- whew !!!!!  It was getting a bit on the tiresome side to try and share a car --- not terrible, but tiresome.  We both grew used to this huge convenience --- and we do have slightly different styles.  I don't like him to take the car and leave me at work as sometimes it is iffy.  I may have to stay over a bit --- or I may want or need to do something after leaving --- so it is so much easier to be able to not have to factor in some wait time till he arrives --- or whether he will have the time if I have a small list of places to visit when I'm done work.

Went over to my cousin's and picked up her house and car keys.  Saturday, I will go pick up her dog ( she and her Dh will be on the way home from Michigan )  and though there dog is really sweet he is also spoiled rotten.  I need to use her car ( that is ok ) have a **Nummie**  for Muffin to chew on, on the way home, and then get him settled there at home.  It is ok --- and I'll stay with him there until they arrive back.  My cousin is good to me so I'm very happy to do this for her.  He does have to be in his car though as he knows the smell etc.  He truly is a spoiled little guy --- but really cute and fun.

Had to go to Salem and make there or four stops over there --- so I spent most of my time here today really in and out for very short periods.  Working tomorrow of course but off Friday -- if I don't work Friday night.

We did not have real humidity today and the temps were much cooler -- low 80's so it was fairly nice.  We kept the a/c on though since the weather will change again soon, so hardly seemed worth it to just have one day when we were gone more than here to open everything up.  Out here it is very customary to go away to town or wherever and leave the doors and windows opened up.  Been doing that for 17 or 18 years now and hope we always can.

Anyway, I see it has been fairly quiet here today.  Hope all are fine and feeling well.  I'm anxious too to see your new deck Carole.  It all sounds really nice.  Now that Dh has his truck back -- he can go down and pick up the new fence we had on order ( pasture type )  from the Home Center here.  The one we had is/was very old and had some rotted wood in it discovered when parts of it had to be moved to take down the tree we needed to remove --- so since one side has a light switched for our outdoor lights we decided to get vinyl pasture fence to replace all the treated wood.  Won't be as attractive as the old wood --- but we will get used to it.

    Will see you all later.

    Blessings,

    Jackie

Good morning, all. We turned off the a/c and opened the bedroom window last night. It always cools down at least to the upper 60's at night. This morning it's overcast with that darned south wind bringing the mugginess. Wish those southerners would keep that wind down south! There's the chance of showers and storms today. We had planned to play golf but this is "buggy" weather as well as muggy. DH has a repair to attempt. The fan in the hatch in the main part of the camper has been making a noise. Dh wants to try lubricating the motor. Trouble is getting to the motor. He will have to get on top of the camper and remove the hatch cover.

So we may just hang around the campground today. The British Open golf tournament is on tv and we're recording it on the DVR. I may drive into town to a nursery in search of some geranium plants for the deck. Dh likes the old-fashioned red geraniums, which don't do well at home because of the heat.

Jackie, the nice feature about plastic fencing is that you don't have to paint it! There goes Tom Sawyer's job!

I finished edging the bricks around my flower beds yesterday morning, and yesterday afternoon went with a friend on the yard/garden tour of 8 houses in Fargo and Moorhead. Glad we took our umbrellas along, just enough light rain that we'd have gotten wet. At one place we did have to slip into their yard gazebo as it was also lightning.

This morning Lew and I headed out on our Segways to the annual Street Fair - several blocks of booths of all kinds of hand made items, from art to jewelry to yard decorations, etc. And then there's the cross street of food vendors, we always get a shake and share a serving of Deep Fried Cheese Curds. Again wore our rain gear, got home just in time before the hard downpour. Bought a ceramic snail for my garden, and 3 of those cloth bags that you can put your plastic bags in and they'll dispense one bag at a time out the bottom, 2 of which will become presents.

I posted these photos on FB for Flashback Thursday, and Carole said I should post them here too. Lew and I tested for our bronze and silver bars in dance roller skating (earned 3 bronze and 2 silver) before wearing away the cartilage in my knee.

Puffin, the yard/garden tour sounds like something I would definitely enjoy. I used to be an enthusiastic gardener before I got older and lazier. Maybe I can rekindle the interest by hiring a gardener! I still take care of basic weeding and pruning and mulching which involve a lot of work in a big yard like mine. I used to plant blooming annuals in the pots on my patio but the last couple of years I've planted herbs, which are pretty to look at, plus nice to have for cooking.

Today has been enjoyable. DH climbed the ladder on the back of the camper and got up on the roof to tend to the fan in the hatch. I stood on a chair and cleaned from the inside and he cleaned from the top side and administered some good ole WD 40, the magic lubricator. Boy, does than hatch and fan look clean now, plus the fan motor isn't making the noise like it's in agony.

It rains a little and then the sun pops out, goes behind the clouds and then it will rain a little more. No wind so far so we have the awning out shading most of the deck. I wasn't gung ho on building a deck in the first place but I'm starting to like it. That's the way I operate. It takes me a while to adjust to change of almost any kind. I guess I need proof that the change is for the better.

Dh is out there making (I hope) his last batch of sawdust. He's building a set of steps for the high end of the deck. Once we get the scrap lumber cleared away, I'll take some photos and post them.

DH's sister has a rare disease as bad as cancer called amyloidosis. It has damaged her heart already. She was accepted into a study at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and will making periodic trips there for infusions. I hope that's the right word. She and our bil will be in Rochester next weekend and are planning to drive up to Park Rapids to visit us. They have a van/camper, one of the really expensive ones (he's a retired physician), and will stay here at Pine Hollow if we can get permission from the owner. We don't know what she will be up to doing in the way of sightseeing, but the headwaters of the MS River is about 20 mi. north of here at Itasca State Park. And there's always a drive to Bemidji to see the big statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe outside the really nice welcome center on Lake Bemidji. Plus we can sit on our deck if the weather is decent!

Omg,-- loved those pics.   Is the top one a more recent one ?  Well, I was a real roller skating fan from early on.  I think I learned good balance early as well.  My Uncle got my sister a pair of roller skates for her birthday.  She put them on -- promptly fell, and that was the end of skating for her.  As for myself ---- I knew I was going to fall and get scraped up, but I knew I had to go through some misery to become decent --- and I was willing to take the pain and discomfort.  Happened with a lot of our learning curves from our growing up time.

Anyway, I spent many a wonderful afternoon at our local skating rink and got to be really, really good.  It was always a joy --- always.

So sorry Carole to hear about your sister-in-law and her illness.

    Amyloidosis

    Disease

Amyloidosis is a rare disease that results from accumulation of inappropriately folded proteins. These misfolded proteins are called amyloids. When proteins that are normally soluble in water fold to become amyloids, they become insoluble and deposit in organs or tissues, disrupting normal function.

I looked it up Carole because I didn't know what it was, though I've heard the word before.  There is a lot more information on it, but I kept it short and simple. It certainly sounds like a very un-pleasant thing.  I hope the treatments that she will get will help her a lot.

Hope you will have a nice time when they come up to see you --- and how wonderful to have a deck just on the off change that anyone is tired.

We have a deck ( pretty high up actually ) off our kitchen door.  It's fairly large --- and if the summer is good, we use it almost year round.  We didn't get the yard furniture out yet so likely won't this yr.  I have been waiting for Dh to clean the deck and re-stain it, but  it seems like we have very little dry time before its raining around here again.  So --- no meals on the deck.  Some yrs. are like that.

I loved the painting reference to Tom Sawyer.  That's right....no painting/staining will be needed on a fence this yr.  Just the big deck and walkway from the deck all the way around the house and out to the 'fence'.

Hope you are all have a fantastic day.

    Blessings

    Jackie

Carole: so sorry about your SIL's health problems, hope the infusions help her, and that you all have a good time when they visit next week

Jackie, both pictures would have been taken in the same general time period, the late 1970's. The lessons you learned with roller skating (sometimes you need to take the pain and discomfort to come out better on the other side) have served you well over the years.

I just got back from the Y, walked the treadmill but don't think I managed to work off both the deep fried cheese curds and the raspberry shake.

    Hi gals!

Mommarch...sending hugs and prayers your way. I am praying that they will find just the right chemo for you!

Joan...love your kitty! The shelter kitties are the best! I have two of them that I wouldn't trade! They are very spoiled, too.

Carole and Puffin....So glad you had a great visit. I love the picture! Also love the skating pictures!

Hope Blondie is having fun in sunny Florida!

I am recouping from my oldest grandson's visit. Sunday we go to pick up my middle grandson for his special week at Grandmas. I am having a ball with them but I must admit I am wearing down. I got my hair done today and my hair stylist remarked that I wasn't as talkative as usual. I told him I was tired and just loving the fact that I could sit quietly for awhile!

I will try to go back and read the posts that I missed!

    Hugs to all of you!
