Yesterday was our 25th anniversary. My hubby bought me the prettiest new handbag...

and my kindle fits in it!!!

-

Three stars for that guy GG. Wow -- I'm impressed.Jackie
-
Hi Gumby, ours was today, 26 years!
-
GG, that is a pretty handbag! Good for your dh!
Puffin, we really like Detroit Lakes. Would it be ok if dh and I both met you for lunch? Any one of those days would be good since we have no schedule. You name the day and the restaurant.
We biked today from Park Rapids to the village of Dorset and then back to Park Rapids. The round trip was 12 miles which is easy with our bikes. We like to work up to longer distances. The weather was perfect for biking, low 70's. Knock on wood, we haven't needed the a/c since last Saturday in Bowling Green, MO.
Hope everyone is doing well. Blondie, when is the trip to FL?
-
bonnets -- congratulations to you and hubby. Later this month Dh and I will celebrate 40. I have only spent 20 yrs. of my life as a single person. Seems sort of incredible when looked at that way. Hope you and GG too had a wonderful, wonderful day.
Jackie
-
Carole, let's say Friday and of course your hubby is welcome to come too. Do you have a restaurant you like? I don't really know the DL restaurants.
-
Congratulations, Bonnets. Hope you and your hubby had a wonderful day.

-
Congratulations, Bonnets and Gardengumpy!!
GG, the purse is pretty and it is always nice when the kindle or tablets fit into them.
Went to dr. yesterday for a sore knee and fingers going numb. Ended with a brace for right hand for carpal tunnel and need an MRI on knee to see if I tore something. She doesnt think it is the arithis in my knee this time.
Yesterday was a nice day here but rained last night. Today is suppose to be nice and in the 70's. I can handle that. We have only used the AC a few times this summer.
We have nothing planned for this holiday weekend. Should be a quiet weekend for us. Last weekend we went to see Jimmy Buffet concert on Saturday and then our youngest GD was baptized so we had a party for that combined with her first birthday. It was a fun weekend but quiet ones are great also. Our house is for sale now and we have had people viewing it. It is time to downsize but bittersweet since we have lived here for almost 39 years. Have to get ready for work now.
Hope everyone is having a great week and enjoy your July 4th weekend.

Puffin, when we're in Detroit Lakes, which the locals call DL, we usually eat at Main Street Café. For such a nice town with quite a few tourists, there aren't many restaurants. I'll look online and why don't you do the same. Friday works for us.
I slept until just a few minutes ago, almost 8 am. I got up and put on my shorts and then changed to long pants. It's in the low 60's this morning.
So far we don't have our satellite tv reception working. The DISH employee said it will be a week and a half before they can get around to us. DH tried to set up the dish on top of our trailer yesterday but we didn't have any luck. I don't miss tv except for the news and weather. We get some news and the local weather on a local radio station.
The plan for today is to play golf at 3:30 pm.
Termite, good luck in selling your house for a good price. I can relate to the mixed feelings. We've been in our current house more than 20 years.
Greetings to everyone.
-
Carole, so glad you made it safely and are all settled in to your summer home. We do exactly the same thing in the winter as we hate the cold, snow, and ice. I think it's great that you can do it during the summer! Have a great golf game!
Gardengr..love the purse!
My kids are here for the holiday and then they are leaving my 11 year old grandson for his special week! We will have a good time, I'm sure as we like to do many of the same things!
Everyone have a great 4th of July holiday!
-
Hi all, well today is day 13 of my 3rd cycle of oral chemo. The soles of my feet are sore, but still able to walk. Will take my two doses tomorrow and then be off for 7 days. Will have blood work and at CT on July 9th and see the ONC on the 10th. Hope it is working. I get up in the morning and feel pretty good, but then about an hour and a half after taking Med I am very fatigued. Can not get much done.
Hope everyone has a great 4th. Hugs
-
Same to u rita
Carol i know u knoe how fortunate to b able to do the traveling...take care of both of u
Selling the house, that is so stressful.
-
Monmarch - I forgot, what is the drug? Glad to hear you're still walking. And I know you're looking forward to the 7 days off. I'll keep my fingers crossed for positive movement.
-
Morning ladies, Beautiful day here Sunny and only 58. Any day it's not raining lately is a good one!
Had my CT Monday and saw my Pulmonologist yesterday The Embolism is gone and I'm off Coumadin. Yay. Cured the tachy cardia by going caffeine free, now if the gluten free diet helps the IBS I'll be a happy camper.
Momarch, hope this chemo is easy to tolerate. I know how varied chemo SE's can be.
Termite, hope the knee doesn't get too bad. My knee arthritis got worse after my fall before our cruise this spring. I do find cushioned shoes help some.
Hope the holiday weekend goes well for everyone!
-
yeah bonnets, glad you're off the coumadin and heart rate normal.
-
Mindfulness is being aware of yourself, others, and your surroundings in the moment. When consciously and kindly focusing awareness on life as it unfolds minute by precious minute, you are better able to savor each experience. Also, being closely attentive gives you the opportunity to change unwise or painful feelings and responses quickly. In fact, being truly present in a mindful way is an excellent stress reducer and, because of that, can be seen as consciousness conditioning, a strengthening workout for body, mind, heart, and spirit.

Yay bonnets, let the Coumadin be gone !!!! Had a person I cared for and it was always yucky to be going to the hospital all the time for the blood tests for levels. After a while, it seemed to be such a drag --- always having to fit in that hospital visit. I'm glad you don't have to take that any more. Hope some of the other things continue to resolve well for you.
I'll be working tomorrow night, but not too long. Okay with me. We don't do much on the 4th. of July anyway. We I think have spent yrs. learning how to be content not doing all the things we could. Sometimes, just doing what you really, really want too is the best thing. In a small town with not too much happening -- we are ok with letting the younger crowd get in on ALL the things we once seemed to have had to do -- it is their turn, and now and then for old times sake -- we might turn up.
Having sun today -- but the weather report is possibility of showers. The rain just seems to keep on coming. If we don't get too much humidity out of it.....I can be all right I guess. There has been more than enough sun lately ( even when it rains part of the time ) to keep me from sinking too bad.
Sorry to hear you are still plagued with that ole' fatigue Mommarch. Still, if you can keep the other se's at bay maybe it is a small price to pay. Glad you will be off for the 4th. of July and can feel up to anything you might usually enjoy this time of yr.
Puffin, hope things are continuing to settle out for you and your family.
I'll be checking back later on. See you all then.
Blessings
Jackie

Morning all,
Sorry I haven't been posting, been really busy taking care of Dr visits for Tracy's broken ankle, and, as a result of that, been in charge of getting house ready for Nancy and family, as well as preparing for 2 parties- a block party tomorrow for the 4th of July, and Lucia's birthday party on Sun.
- But I am beyond happy and grateful- as of 10:30 last night ALL FIVE OF MY CHILDREN and ALL SIX OF MY GRANDCHILDREN are in the same county. We are not all together yet, but we will be, hopefully by the end of today, and for the some portions of every day for the next week. God is good!
Of course, I can hardly move, I am so sore from all I've been doing, but it's okay.Prayers and hugs to all. Enjoy the weekend, whether you have big plans or no plans.Anne -
Mommarch, I, too, am hoping for very positive results from your treatment.
Bonnets, glad you're doing better.
Rita, I know you'll enjoy the one on one time with your grandson.
I guess dh and I will ride on somebody's boat in the boat parade on our lake tomorrow. Mary, our next door neighbor, organized it. The owners are supposed to decorate their boats. We're not big on holiday activities, either, Jackie. Last year we went into town for the small-town 4th of July parade. Then sat and listened to an outdoor patriotic band concert. Then took our chairs to a park to wait for fireworks. We waited and waited and waited.... Finally at 10 pm it was dark enough. Not sure if we will do any of that this year.
We're hoping to find a reasonably priced 2nd-hand boat and motor to buy. This morning we went to look at one that was advertised on the local radio show's Swap Shop. The boat was so ugly that we didn't even stop for a closer look. I chatted with the owner on the phone and wish we'd liked his boat because he needs the money. His wife had a stroke and a heart attack.
DH has been working for several days to get the satellite dish adjusted on the roof of the camper. It would cost us $95 an hour for a DISH technician to come here and it would be more than a week before someone would come. Today dh was successful and we get reception on the channels we watch. He said he would buy material for a deck outside our camper with the $$$ he saved. We were planning to build a deck anyway but nothing as fancy as some of the other folks have.
Blondie, thinking about you and looking forward to hearing about your Florida trip.
Greeting to all. Hope you enjoy whatever you do for the 4th.

Carole, how about Shorty's Corner Cafe at 1201 Washington Ave in DL at 11:30?

Life moves on, whether we act as cowards or heroes. Life has no other
discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly.
Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny,
denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful,
evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind.
Every moment is a golden one for those who have the vision to recognize it as such.Henry Miller

Happy, happy 4th. of July to all. I usually find a graphic, but guess I'm getting lazy in my old age. Looking forward to today though. I think no rain today, more like hot and a bit muggy. That is ok --- I'm thankful for all of my days -- even if a few wishes for weather or something else I'd like better do slip through my head. I will work later on which never bothers me at all. I do think I'll likely be home soon enough to "glimpse" some fireworks displays somewhere. A lot of our neighbors do them in their big back yards -- so we will not be totally without some of the "fun" experiences of the 4th.
I never realized till I came home again how many people do their own fireworks here. When we lived in California we always had to 'go' somewhere, park in a huge crowd of people and wait for the show to begin. Being able to be almost in your own back yard makes it a lot different. Hard to believe we are already in the month of July. Don't know where the time goes sometimes.
Still trying to get used to the "missing" tree out front. Dh ordered some fencing for the front area but is hasn't come yet. We had some old 'pasture' fence there but it was really, really old and had been repaired several times. The tree guys accidentally broke one of the posts --- so we just decided to switch to a vinyl type fence and be done with it. If it were not for our parking out cars there ---- I'd likely skip the fence totally --- but it does sort of mark things off a bit for us.
Got an appt. made for the 20th. of the month to go to Marion and get an eye exam. Haven't had one for 5 or 6 yrs. I should have done it much sooner, but like some other things --- I kept putting off for a time when I really had more time ---- and it sort of got stuck on the back burner and stayed there. So, I'll get that fixed.
Blondie -- just a week before you start having fun in Fla. Good for you. Those of us who don't ( for whatever reason ) travel are always eager to share stories from those who do. We have to live vicariously, but if I didn't stay home my little kitties I feed everyday would be miserable. So, we anticipate the fun we can hear about and share with those who are making their way to nice places.
Carole, hope you do find a boat that suits you. Sorry to hear about the man who has to sell his boat. That is a sad story. You really can't prepare very well for older age. I think for some it is common to have a stroke and heart attack together almost. I'd have to read up again to be sure.
Thinking of all of you and hoping you have a wonderful day.
Blessings
Jackie

Happy 4th of July to everyone. Hope you all enjoy whatever you do to celebrate this day.
Blondie, have a safe and fun time on your trip
Mommarch, hoping for positive results from your treatments
Anneb, enjoy your time with your family. I know how hard it is to get all the kids together.
Rita, enjoy the time with your grandson
Carole, glad you made it safe to your destination, Enjoy your summer!
Bonnets, glad you are off the coumadine.
I haven't seen Mimi(little clown) on here for some time. Does anyone know if she is okay?
Happy 4th of July

Puffin, Shorty's it is, at 11:30. I asked a woman here in the campground who's from Detroit Lakes about lunch places, and I think she mentioned Shorty's as having home-cooked food.
It's warmer than I would like here today and somewhat humid, too, for MN. We have fans on in the camper and so far have not given in and turned on the a/c.
About 11 am today we participated in a boat parade that was fun. Boat owners decorated their boats for the 4th and had flags. There was a long procession of boats cruising around the lake close to the shore. People on docks waved to us. Since dh and I don't own a boat, we had to hitch a ride.
Happy 4th to all.
-
Puffin - sorry about your family's loss.
Carole - loved the placemats.
Finally catching up after several weeks. We visited my FIL in Georgetown TX. After weeks of rain we were looking forward to sunshine but we took the rain with us. Everyone was glad to have rain. We got to see my nephew's new baby. It was nice seeing 95 year old great grandpa holding the newest addition to the family. Love the smell of sweet new babies.
Next week I have 3 days of wedding activities for a friend's daughter. Thursday is prep time for the bridesmaids' luncheon a few of us are hosting Friday before the big day Saturday. I made a door decoration using a lace umbrella and flowers.
Thursday some teachers I worked with in the late 70s, the 80s, and early 90s got together for lunch. One said it was the old ladies lunch which I didn't think was a good name. We had lots of laughs for over 2 hours, better than the 25 minutes we had when teaching.
I finally feel like I'm really recovering after surgery in May. I only have to wear the b binder at night so that is a relief now that it's getting hot.
Hope everyone is having a fun, safe Fourth

We are a community of one, regardless of age, I'm 35 and would love to communicate with you . It's really not about age or lifestyle, it's about support, experience, knowledge.
-
Northstar- Please don't exclude the younger group experiencing what you are, we need to be one
-
newlydx15 -- good morning and welcome. We don't exclude anyone here. All are welcome. Long time ago ( although I'm partly guessing on some of this ) Northstar felt that some of we ( I'm certainly there ) older ladies had some issues that were slightly different from the younger women undergoing chemo, rads, and other parts ( meds used ) of the cancer experience.
The bottom line is that no matter what the age of a person -- a cancer dx puts us all pretty much in the same boat in general. We are just thrilled it isn't the Titanic. Most of us have raised our family and some are raising grandchildren here, but we would not close the door on anyone. Please feel free to join in if you wish. Tell us a little about you as you learn about us.
Blessings
Jackie
