Hi, just took me an hour to catch up with y'all....
Sandy, I hope you are sleeping tonight...it can feel like torture to not sleep when you are exhausted....a friend just started chemo (pre-surgical) for 8-9 cm ILC and she is off the wall from steroids. She then takes anti-anxiety and sleep meds...it doesn't sound good and I and her sister are worried. So I looked it up and steroids are given to boost anti-nausea/vomiting and also it stimulates appetite. Also anti-inflammatory for affected areas... .
Sheila, was watching HGTV Island Hunters and thought of you...
Meece, how far south are you that you are getting these temps? It's 18 here tonite.
Ray, are you leaving work because of BC,or had you planned to stay home with Jacob? I like my job, but somedays I think I'd still rather be home.
Diane, it's heartbreaking to have the kids moving. I hope you can make a plan to have multiple meaningful visits all year round.
Percentage-wise, how much of your renovation has been completed??
Hi Chris, Linda, Ducky, Val and others....hope you had a good day & will enjoy the week end. I fell asleep in the middle of this and now it's 3 AM...
Saw MO today and she was actually kind of nice. She paid lots of attention to my SEs but no remedies offered. She then told me I was taking the Vitamin D all wrong. I couldn't believe it. I thought I followed instructions sent to me by mail. My Vit D is normal and she told me to stop taking both the OTC and the Rx for D. Was taking it with calcium...so now, do I take calcium alone? Forgot to ask. I wanted to ask if I can just get off all the drug for a few months - what would be the risk? I want to know how I really would feel without all the pills. The RN asked about my tinnitus (new symptom for me) and MO interrupted and I forgot to ask her if it is related to AI drugs.
I go to her because all 3 docs are in one place - all testing too. It's just easier for me, and I am getting good follow up even if personalities are not ideal.
EnoughTOL here....

Glad your diverticulitis is calm now, Sandy. Hope it doesn't flare up again - ever.
Kaylie sounds precious. How sweet. I could take a page out of her book on how to correct people - I never know what to say. You don't want to let them keep being wrong about something, but you don't want to make them feel bad when you correct them. I don't think quickly when it comes to those things. Though I might get better at it dealing with my mother -I have to be careful about how I say things to try to avoid upsetting her.
Hope you aren't too sore from your fall and don't discover any new injuries, Meece. Don't feel stupid - everyone falls at one time or another.
Speaking of which - how are you feeling after your fall, Ray? I hope you are healing well. And I hope the little guy is feeling better.
How much longer will the people be working on your house, Diane? I hope they will be out soon so you can have some peace and quiet.
I didn't know you could take vit D wrong... I suppose if you are in the normal range, you don't need Rx, but unless your levels are high, I don't see how OTC could hurt. I take 2000 units a day...I wonder if that is wrong... After a yr and a half (I think) my vit D level went from 28 to 44 (or something like that.) So I still take it.

Since my name is different, it is more often mispronounced. When someone does say it wrong, I usually just say, "It's Meece", They will usually apologize and I say "It's okay, I'm so used to it I'll answer to almost anything." It's not as good as Kaylie's answer, but I hope it puts the other person at ease some.
I haven't left my bed yet this morning, but my left shoulder blade is sore.
I was told to take Vit D w/calcium, but it has to be calcium citrate. Vit D helps the calcium to absorb, and the calcium citrate absorbs more effectively using less stomach acid. The calcium in Tums is not absorbed well because your stomach acid is decreased by the Tums. (Info is what I gleaned from my chiropractor when we were disucssing taking calcium. BTW calcium carbonate is the cheapest and most available calcium supplement available, but you won't get as much in your system. Also take your D and Cal. with a full glass of water or with food which is low in fiber.
-
Sheila, was the airport warm at least. Sorry I missed picking you up yesterday, I'll be right there, sit tight.
-
Vitamin D should be taken with Calcium. Also the normal range is so stupid, in my opinion. I think the range is something like 20 to 100. Back when I was DX my Vitamin d level was something like 6. The RX did nothing since it was D2. I went and order D3, 50,000 IUs from walgreens (OTC) and started taking them. Now I do about 5,000 a day and take the 50,000 once or twice a month. Twice in winter, once in summer. After 4 years I got my level up to 60. WOuld love it if it rose a little more.
-
Had a great visit with a rheumatologist/immunologist yesterday. Re Vitamin D - he said it has to be taken with food, specifically food with some fat because it is fat soluble.
I learned that the extreme symptomatic response I had to the nasty pills was because I had a low grade auto immune issue which was hugely flared by the pills. He feels that I have had Hashimoto's and Sjogren's for some time. It is possible that if these are treated successfully, I would be able to manage the nasty pills. So for example, everyone gets dryer with loss of estrogen but if you take loss of estrogen plus Sjogrens (autoimmune that attacks fluid in the body), you are going to be off the wall dry.
Really liked the guy - looking forward to post testing follow up.
Morning all - for the first time, I will spend the day with my cutie pie. The week before they leave - I've been tossed a bone and I'll take it and make it memorable.
-
Glad you finally got some answers, Diane. I hope he can fix you up quickly and completely. So nice to find doctors that can finally help after you've suffered for so long.
Have a great day with your cutie pie. I'm trying to prepare for when I don't get to see my DD all the time anymore come August when she lives on campus. Preparing for your cutie pie to move away, must be so hard. (((((((Diane)))))))
One thing I do know about calcium is that you only absorb up to about 500mg at a time - so you need to space out your doses if you need to take more than that a day. Thanks for the fyi on calcium citrate being better. I'm supposed to be taking calcium, but I haven't been. I started having a problem with acid reflux around when I started taking calcium a while back and I made an association between the two - even though I now know that calcium is actually "good" for acid reflux. I don't know why I don't want to take the calcium...mental.
Do you think a slimfast counts as food for taking vit D? I usually take my meds with my morning slimfast...
Well - I cleaned the bathrooms - now I need to shower and go stay with Mom for 8 hrs...
-
WOW Diane. I have never heard of those! Glad you had a good visit!
-
Chris, don't drink slimfast!!!!!! They make you fat! SERIOUSLY!
-
Diane, I have a friend with Sjogrens for decades and it is controls with meds. You wouldn't know anything was up with her.
DS is bringing GF and the kids for dinner tonight. Got to get the Legos out to keep the older ones occupied, and set up the Pack n Play for the baby. I am looking forward to it. Love to snuggle on the baby.
-
Sheila.....some of my kids I would enjoy everyday......others....no. Depends on the day, and their mood....but honestly I do like my alone time too.
Freezing in our region today....right Sandy. Hugs...stay warm. -
Joan...Maybe your MO read your post.....I know what you are saying...i love my DR in the same area if not the same building
Meece.....I can hear it in your voice the baby has a special place in your heart.....Airport was warm but i was bored...LOL
Diane...Enjoy a day with Cutie pie and take lotsof pictures...happy for you my friend
RE: VD and calcium....i only take Caltrate+D twice a day.....Levels were 42 then dropped some.....

Still swollen. He just left with his brother to go to Burger King to get his hours for tomorrow. I think he wants to get out of working because of what he looks like. OK with me. I made him go out last night and pick his brother up. He left the house in his bathrobe. Can you imagine?? He was waiting for me to tell him he didn't have to go. He was concerned he would get pulled over by the police and not be able to talk. He was talking almost normally earlier. Milking it! I tild him I would write him a note to give to the cops. lol.
-
did you write the note and if so Linda what did it say? You are too funny!!
Ducky you are so right...
Joan, that explains it am nauseous all the time...
Granny, hope you are ok...
Meece hope you feel ok, are you taking anything...glad they are coming to spend time with you.....
Diane...it seems like it taking forever to get all the work done...and glad that you had a nice visit, I take nothing, I take enough every morning, lol...I know I should and all but whatever.....I have them downstairs in the cabinet...
Chris you are such a good daughter and you can clean here...
Shiela, that explains why she didn't get me either, but oh well...not sure I could keep my mouth shut around the GF....how is DD on the big island Shiela, you talk to her often?
Well gonna go get my grandson something for his birthday and Lala is sleeping but of course my battery on the phone was going dead so no pix.....daughter is done work at 2 so she will be here, but Michael asked for her to come so he is watching her, but as I said she is sleeping...working tomorrow can't wait..

No, I didn't write on, but I would have!! LOL!
Going to an adult bowling pub tonight to celebrate my Moms 75 bday. 15 of us are going, over 21 so they kiddies have to stay home
-
yay have fun Linda...
went n saw Silver Linings Playbook, it was awesome!!! I was made in places not far from where ducky and I live.....
Sandy
-
Sandy, sorry you are nauseous all the time....sounds like the drugs could be doing a better job for you.
I am so confused about Vit. D2 and Vit. D3 ... MO prescribed 50K and instructions said to also take the calcium + D OTC tabs. So I did for months and this week she said my levels were 34 and I'm fine...and that I shouldn't take it at all. She told me I was taking it incorrectly. How do I resolve this?
One good thing about staying with the team at my cancer center is that all my lab work goes on line immediately. I was able to see the results of my bloodwork the day after it was drawn.
Well, am not going to worry about the D, but now do I have to take calcium?? I get my next bone density in October.
Falling asleep here ... went to NYC to see DS from Chicago - he's in NY for his BD. We had dinner and wine and Crumbs gourmet cupcakes...I am wiped out...won't see him again on this trip.
Going to try to sleep...nite all.
Joan -
Linda, that is too funny re: your son going out to pick up his brother in his bathrobe & holding back hoping you'd change your mind on his going - & then offering to write him a note - I bet he loved hearing that! LOL
Meecie, I hope you are not as sore as the day you fell. Did you bruise much? And I would have been one also, to shop around after with a big mark on my arm not knowing it was there until much later. Maybe nobody noticed?!?
Big Hello to everybody!
Oh, if ya'll don't cheer for anybody in particular in the Super Bowl, would ya just throw some out there for my 49'ers?!?!
Go 9'ers! ~ Go 9'ers!
