Had jaw surgery several years ago. Went to a restaurant and asked them to blend a dish on their menu. They were horrified but did it.

Thanksgiving Day the Senior Center is co-operating with the Lions Club and a local restaurant to serve a community dinner. When the Center started doing the dinner 17 years we did it all our selves but it grew to the point about 12 years ago that we had to have help so the Lions pitched in.  30 people the first year.  Now we don't even have room for it in our building.  We can handle 200 but this year should be 250 to 300.  My job this year is to make the gravy.  I do have my helper to spell me on the stirring and to do the lifting.  We also have to do the jello salads, both green and red.  I found another Center volunteer to do the green and and we will do the red.

In a retirement community there are always a lot of singles and couples with no families to share holidays with.

That is so awesome that you do that, Chabba.  I'm going to barely be able to handle making turkey dinner for my family of 4 and my parents.

40 people at your brother's house?! Yikes!  Are they having it catered or are they really good cooks who can cook large quantities of food?

Yuck - blended food.  I'll stick with Ensure if I can't chew.  I don't know how you did it, PT.

Aww Sheila - they couldn't get it done before the holiday for you?  Crummy timing.

Hope you can get some DQ soon, Sandy!  Glad you were able to go to dinner - even if you did eat too much.  It's hard to eat out without eating too much.

Well, I didn't exercise - surprise!   I'm going to really try tomorrow.

Sandy, what do you do for your milkshakes? I haven't made one in years, was doing smoothies until I realized one almost every day was putting the lb's on me! When my girls were young, I used to mix good ole Nestle Quik (why don't they call it that anymore??!!) in milk, blend it & added vanilla ice cream. Yummmmy!!

    Hi everyone!

    I agree!  That's awesome Chabba!!!

LOL, PT.  Sheila should try that!

My brothers house is HUGE so he can handle the people easily.  We all bring something.  This year I am bringing 10 pounds of roasted potatos and two pumpkin pies.  They actually do very little and we all bring things.  It works out well.  I would just hate to clean up after!!!

Val, they call it NESQUIK now!  I am looking at a container of it.  My sons loves it!

I am dreading planning anything more after this coming weekend.  We will probably have a small dinner which will seem lonely after all of the hubub surrounding the wedding.

Mac - the easiest T Day I ever did at home was for 35 people.  I cooked the turkey, stuffung and gravy, and directed traffic.  Everything else was taken care of by DH, BIL (who lived with us and took care of the patatoes) and the guests.  They even cleaned up and left everything spotless.

Turkey for 35 people- how much turkey was that?  I don't even know how much to get for 6 people.  And gravy - forget it.  I can't make gravy.  I'm incompetent in the kitchen (and everywhere else, apparently...lol)

Everything in my life is broken.  DH had a cold shower this morning - oil co man has to come back again - but first I had to pick up FIL and MIL from the ER and bring them home (MIL had ambulance come for FIL - turned out his blood sugar was 37!).  On my way to get them, the engine light came on in the car.  So have to take that to have that fixed.  But before I could call the oil man, I had to drop off the other car to have a tire looked at.  I don't know - is it better to have everything break at once and get it over with?  Maybe everything will then be fixed so I won't have these problems if anyone calls to hire me.  that would be nice... (then I could have money to pay for all the things I have to have fixed!)

Mac--the only two guests that T Day that stayed on the sofa except to eat were my SIL and MIL.  And I didn't even get any pie that year because I was too full to have a piece at the table and as soon as dinner was over SIL, who had brought the pies, packed them up and went home!  The other women helped put food away and then went to sit down while the men and teenage boys did all the clean up.  It was wonderful---well except SIL but that was typical.

Chris - what a week you've had.  So many hassles - that is one good reason that you haven't got a job yet!

My DIL must be related to the SIL's on this board :)

I forgot - I make terrible gravy for some reason but I became successful when I started using Williams Sonoma gravy base (in a jar).  It's darn good for cheating gravy.
