I think Simon went way too far tonight. It's obvious he has made up his mind as to who should win and he's stacking the deck. Going so far as to get permission from Bono to let Adam sing that song and then telling us about it. Saying that if Adam doesn't win this thing there is something terribly wrong (with us?), etc., etc. Going on and on about how people probably assume Adam will win and might not take the time to vote. That was too much. Did anyone see his new discovery on Oprah the other day? Yikes! They were almost as bad as those Celtic ladies. Good (probably) classical musicians all dressed up (hot, he said) and strutting around the stage playing musak.

Anyway, I think the final should be Adam vs. Kris. Danny's "raspy" voice is just that and nothing more. Kris is indeed a musician, and Adam has obviously worked hard to hone his style. He has some serious style, but I wonder if people will vote for what he offers in the end.

I think Danny and Kris are truly good sports. If Simon's campaign for Adam got on their nerves they sure kept it to themselves.

On another note: we are leaving for a four-month trip next Wednesday and I will miss the final result show. I didn't know I'd be so interested in this year's show when we made our reservations. Oh no!

Anna, I'm with you!  I've NEVER gotten so involved in American Idol or ANY television show before.  Perhaps it's the dynamic personalities and great talent this year!  Tonight should be interesting.  All three are so talented.  I still lean toward Adam, but I also like the other two.  Secretly I'm hoping that Kris stays.  Although they have him categorized as the "dark horse" in this competition, he has a quiet aura that goes with his great voice and I think he performed his chosen song extremely well last night.  It won't be long and we'll know who goes and who stays!

    Ill chime in finally- LOL.

Been watching each week.  Picked Adam from the try outs.

I thought it would come down to Adam & Allison.  I think she is very Talented & Deserved to stay.

I hope Danny Goes.  I think Kris is way better.  I loved Both of his songs Last Night.

I agree Simon went to far saying that about Adam & voting.

I love Adam & His Talent.  I wish he did not have to scream in every song.  If one went to his concert- I feel like every song would have at least one Scream in it.

I also would like to add that all 3 guys seem to be great People & have Nice personalities.

I am totally rooting for Kris.  Danny does have an appealing voice but not enough originality imo.  I am not an Adam fan at all.  Not saying he doesn't sing well, he certainly does, there is just something about him I don't like.  GO KRIS!

Kris.  He's the man!  I voted for him as much as I could.  He is a fresh talent.

Simon pulled a no no last night trying to stack Adam's deck.  So unprofessional.

I really don't care for the screaming Adam always does.  He just doesn't do it for me.

Plus he is already on the music scene and I thought this show was supposed to be about fresh faces off the streets of America who dream of making it to the big time.  Adam's has already been there.  If I didn't know better he has already got some sort of deal with Simon's business and is being show cased to make more money for all concerned.   I know that sounds far fetched but it's show biz and we all know that means "anything can happen."

I hope Kris wins.   He is so adorable and what a voice.  He is fresh face America.

I thought Danny should have gone last time (why on earth would he sing that song??), not Allison--she is so talented and has great stage presence for a 17 yr old! I think Kris is great--he is someone I would listen to. I think Danny is good but I can't picture what music he would do...

I also don't like the way Simon and the judges are "crafting" the voting--Simon telling Allison she's not going to make it, telling Kris he is the dark horse and everyone assuming Adam will win. It is of course a business--the show is what's important--that and the tour... :)

My first post here - I'm a HUGE American Idol fan, so I have to throw my 2 cents in.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Kris!!!  He is by far the most talented out of the three.  I agree with Revkat 100%!

I think Danny should have gone home last week instead of Allison.  Adam is way overrated in my book.  Anyway, my wish was for Kris and Allison to be in the finale with Kris winning the whole thing.  I really hope Kris stays tonight - if he goes home I probably won't watch next week.

I agree with Pam (Dejaboo) that all three guys are great people.  They are so supportive of each other.

Here's Lisa de Moraes' column about last night's show:

We're down to three guy singers on "American Idol" -- The Three Amigos, show host Ryan Seacrest calls them. This is the week each of the judges gets to choose a tune for one of the Idolettes to perform. But this year there are four judges -- The Four Locos, we call them.

How, oh how, will the "American Idol" producers get themselves out of this jam?

Judge Paula Abdul sticks Danny Gokey with the repetitive, generic, four-note Terence Trent D'Arby tune, "Dance Little Sister," which has him singing at the top of his range over a too loud band.

Judge Kara DioGuardi praises Paula for keeping Danny in his "money zone" with the tune choice but nicks Danny for his dancing -- "a little too gyrating for me," Kara says, revealing herself to be the secret head of the American Idol Decency Police.

But Paula fights back, saying she's the choreographer of the bunch and she believes Danny did a "fantastic job." Judge Randy Jackson digs deep into his book of "Snappy TV Lines" and comes up with "Let the games begin!" Simon also disses the dancing as "desperate" but only after nicking the judge-chicks for having discussed Danny's dancing at such length. More important, he's the only judge who notices Danny can't scat sing, correctly pegging him as having sounded like a kid going toot-toot-toot during the "toy saxophone solo."

Danny explains to the judges that he's not really a dancer and that when he "dances" he's feeling the pressure and shaking it off and "going ahead all the way forward." But the judges are not paying as close attention as Danny might have liked because Simon is now trying to wrestle Paula onto the judges' table and has clapped his hand over her mouth, which Seacrest declares "either second base or sexual harassment." We call it a free-speech violation.

While Seacrest begs the cameraman not to train the camera on the fracas, Paula is heard shouting "Help! Help!" Seacrest updates the audience, reporting Paula has just punched Simon in his left breast. Danny stands up on stage looking like he wants to smack them all into next week, which we would have cheered.

Poor Randy is forced to share Kris Allen's tune-picking with Kara because math is not the "Idol" producers' strong suit.

They've picked another generic four-note tune -- "Apologize" by OneRepublic -- because, Kara says, it's "dark" and has a "beautiful melodic line." It's pretty ho-hum stuff, with Kris at the piano. Kara nicks Kris for not playing the guitar and not making the song totally different. Simon savages Kara, calling her comment "a cop out...You can't choose a song for him, then blame him for doing the song."

"You're going to tell me about interpreting songs?!" Kara huffs. "Have you ever interpreted a song in your life?!"

"You didn't hold up to your responsibilities," Simon snaps back.

"He's just trying to make us crazy," Kara concludes, then moves behind Simon and claps her hand over his mouth, leaving him looking genuinely uncomfortable -- like a man being kidnapped by mediocrity. All the while, Kris is standing quietly on stage, staring at the judges as if he would like to join Danny in smacking them into next week.

Simon picks U2's "One" for Adam Lambert and prattles on happily about how he had to ask his good friend Bono for permission to use the tune and Bono said he would be delighted to have Adam sing it.

"I had lunch with Bono," Paula interjects.

The performance puts Adam back in his comfort zone: blue light. It starts off "Mad World" quiet but moves into major theatrics. Non-Adam-fans hate it; Adam fans find it just okay but decide even at his second best he's still more than competition for the other two.

"You're a strategist...You did your own version," Kara begins, in re Adam's performance, then turns and coos, "See what I mean, Simon?"

Suddenly, Kara erupts into some strange, bad Brit-speak -- a sort of beery Mary Poppins imitation -- and says, "I guess our boy's little point maybe wasn't proven!" And Paula begins to complain to Adam about how "miserable" she is sitting next to Simon "gloating." Simon declares it a brilliant song choice -- and a brilliant performance -- while Adam looks like he'd like to join Danny and Kris in smacking the judges into next week.

Things get only slightly better in Round 2 when the Idolettes pick their own tunes.

Danny Gokey shrewdly covers Billy Preston/Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful" while Danny non-fans try not to think about who he's singing the tune to, and Danny fans wallow in it. It's one of Danny's best performances in this competition; Simon declares it a "vocal master class."

Kris goes with Kanye West's "Heartless" while strumming the guitar -- think hootenanny hip hop. Kris does the tune a huge favor with his performance, causing Randy to pronounce it better than Kanye's version -- duh -- and better than The Fray's take. Kara calls him "bold" and "fearless" and it appears that finally the judges have settled down and are focusing on the Idolettes's performances. Oops -- too soon! Paula makes a stupid joke about how brave Kris is for singing a song about Simon Cowell and we're right back where we started:

"After the lame song choice [by Karandy]...I had written you out of this competition," Simon sneers. "That has all changed after that performance."

Thanks to the judges's antics, it's past 9 by the time Adam Lambert begins to explain his song choice to Seacrest -- Aerosmith's "Crying." We assume he's inviting comparison to Danny's mangling of Aerosmith's "Dream On" last week. Only Adam's performance doesn't go so well -- an over-miked backup singer is louder than he is and the two of them are locked in a deathmatch over who gets to pick the key.

Nonetheless, Pakarandy declare him a shoo-in for the Final Two. But Simon, the only "American Idol" judges worth listening to, worries people (like the nincompoops with whom he is forced to share the table) will assume Adam will sail through to the final round.

"I want everyone not to assume you are going to be [in the final week], but to vote for you because you deserve it based on talent," he says. Simon's clearly worried the other two guys are just flat out more popular.

I thought Jordan Sparks did a great job tonight----hard to believe she's only 19 (I think she was only 17 when she won 2 years ago)--she's really come a long way. Can't beleive  Kris got to stay over Danny--even though I like them both so much, I think Adam will win--he's far and away the most talented.

I was shocked that Danny went home and Kris stayed. Kris is cute but I don't think he's as talented as Danny ... I was hoping for a Danny/Adam final. I agree with awb.....Adam is the most talented. I think they will all have great careers regardless of who wins.

Who on earth was that absolutely horrendous young woman who did all the hand clapping while she "sang?" Are some of the people they bring on the show for real?

I'm glad it's Adam and Kris in the final. I've liked Kris from the get-go and have come to agree that Adam is talented. I don't think he fits the criteria for American Idol, but he sure can sing.

Kris seems like a sweet guy and he has talent but nothing to make him stand out. He sounds like a thousand other singers. If I shut my eyes and several guys sang I couldn't pick him out. I have been a Danny Gokey fan all along, and he's got his own raspy sound that stands out. Adam is and has been in a league of his own, the best from the beginning. I thought it would come down to Adam and Danny and have thought so all along so I was surprised to see Kris stay. I imagine he'll win to add spice to the show but I think Adam will be the star. Allison was really great, too.

I really thought it would be Adam and Kris in the finals and although I've been an Adam fan since the beginning and think he outsings everyone, it's very possible that Kris will win because he has that "all-American" good kid personality and is so cute....thus perhaps the perfect "American Idol."   I still hated to see Danny leave.  I liked his raspy voice and am sure that he'll have a great career if he chooses to go that route.

Divineapathy, yep, now that you mentioned it, I can see the Kris and Brad Pitt resemblance.

Anna... we share the same opinion of the hand clapping gal with the short white outfit.  It didn't take long for me to ask the same question...where in the world did they find her?  Now I admit that I'm out of the loop on many things but I can't imagine too many people relating well to her singing.  LOL

And so we have another week to wait.....does anybody know what the plan is for next week?  Do they get to sing their own selections again or is there a theme that I've missed?

If the hand clapping goofy girl who sang had ever tried out for AI, I don't think she would have ever got a gold paper!! Don't know who she was, don't want to know would never choose to listen to her. They have had some real doozies on this year, the disco week was the worst.

I am glad it was Adam and Kris. Hope Kris wins cause he will need the AI backing where as Adam will go on no matter what and have a great career

    Till next week.

    anniemar53,

I'm with you, Kris is cute, sweet and the All American Guy, but if I close my eyes, he could be a very good karaokee singer.  Danny has such a sexy, raspy voice, he has a great range and a powerhouse voice.  I don't like Adam, never did, never will, he is too over the top, and I think he thinks too much of himself.

Ok ladies-- that goofey girl is KATY PERRY-- who sang the quadruple platinum song, I kissed a girl (and I liked it) that was a blockbuster hit last summer. She is an incredible recording artist, who is well known for her whimsical stage shows... sorry that you guys didn't like her performance last night, but she's amazing, and broke records for holding the number one spot for three months last year.

I thought Jordan Sparks was great too... very beyonce like.

I'm glad that everything worked out the way it did last night.

The crazy part is that there were only 1 million votes seperating adam and kris... so it's anyone's game next week, and I'm willing to bet on Kris as the next winner of IDOL. Don't get me wrong, I love Adam, and would absolutely buy tickets to see him in concert, but Kris is more of a mainstream recording artist, and will be very popular with the young girls.

I think musically his talent is really raw, and moldable, which is a great thing. We'll see what happens!!!!!

I think Simon has an ulterior motive by pushing Adam. People will vote in droves for Kris, just to PO Simon. Simon knows Adam is already marketable. Even if he loses, he will make the AI empire big money. If Kris wins, they can double their money. They both appeal to a different fan base. And the upset will get everyone talking, more free publicity. My bet is on Kris. I cannot stand Adam's screaming. I don't care if he can hit those high "notes", it is like nails on a chalkboard to me! And I agree with you about clappy girl. Who was that chick? Are we showing our age perhaps?

I was rooting for Danny.  I enjoyed seeing what Adam would do each week but it was all starting to sound the same.  I don't see anything special or different about Kris.  He might get a solo in our church choir but I don't think I would shell out the bucks for his CD.  However, I think all three of them (and Alison too) have a good chance of moving on in their careers if they make smart choices. Sometimes I think the AI winner is at a disadvantage as they are at the mercy of the big AI music machine that 'thinks' it knows what the public (us) wants.

Katy Perry is not one of my favorites, and I thought having Adam's name on her cape was sort of lame.

When Jordin Sparks talks for an interview, she comes across as a young woman (used to be girl!).  When she is on stage, HOLY CRAP-I have always been struck by how she suddenly ages another 10 years.

About Kris: I'm interested in the theory that he is going to win because he is the cute-all-American-boy-next-door.  What about David Archuletta last year?  He was adorable, and I still think WAAAY more versatile than David Cook (I know, I will get some boos from the Cook fans).  The theory of cuteness wasn't enough for Archuletta.

Kris, to me, is kind of like Brooke from last year.  She was versatile, of course she was America's Sweetheart, but she didn't always WOW me.  She did some great stuff, but she wasn't consistent.  Kris is capable of awesome stuff, but the other stuff is boring, and that is when I do stuff like open the mail or fold laundry.

With Adam, I am transfixed! Even though his performance this week was his shakiest, he still does great stuff.

Didn't Kelly Clarkson break away from the AI peeps to do her own thing?  Wasn't that the controversy with her a few years ago?  Not sure....

Forgot to mention that I was heartbroken that Danny got the boot, I cheered for him the moment he shared his story about losing his wife.  I know the media ate that up and made him seem like he was playing the "dead wife card," but I of course put ourselves into his shoes, and if I died so suddenly like his wife, I would hope/want/expect/demand from heaven above that my husband would talk about me.  He honors his wife with great class and dignity.  I think he is going to make a great CD, and I am guessing it will be a Christian one?

I broke away for a brief moment of my ever beloved LOST just in time to see Katy Perry do her thing.  Anyone else notice the back of her cape had Adam's name stitched all the way across.

What's up with that?  That seemed way to staged and how did that make Kris and Danny feel.

Katy Perry has massive googly wide open eyes like the crazy manic Ramona on Crazy Whacked Out Housewives of New York City.  Her outfit reminded me of what was said the lady astronaut wore on her drive to Florida to fight for her man.   Very disturbing out fit.

Kris.  Kris.  Kris.  He has puppy eyes.  XOXO

omg- i totally forgot about the cape till you girls brought it up.... I thought that was way uncool, and unfair.

As I step back and think about Danny, I wonder this... Do you think if he didn't have the story he had from the beginning of the show that he would've made it as far as he did? I like him, and his vocals, and his heartwarming/wrenching story of love lost and triumph over adversity, but I wonder if the story didn't exist would he have made it as far as he did?

When they showed the home visits, did you see that Kris played at his college? That def. will add a lot to the votes. He has captured a wide range of listeners.

How funny about the girl pulling her top off on stage with Adam... I take it she didn't know he plays for the other team.

I wish we could all watch the finale together, but I know we're on different time zones. Can't wait to see what happens.

Katy Perry annoyed me with the cape.  So unfair!  Her outfits are always over the top.  She performed on So You Think You Can Dance (btw - can't wait for that show to start!) last season and I remember her outfit being crazy.

I'm with you, sahalie!!  Kris is an absolute doll and sooo talented.  I don't think there's anything boring about him!

Sahalie-OMG, your reference to the astronaut lady's outfit just cracked me up completely.

Beth-You are probably right about Danny, but I will also add that he probably did get pity votes the first few weeks, but really proved that he deserved to be there.

BTW-Danny has the type of smile that makes me automatically smile back.
