AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 8

Jeeze...I think I was as stunned as the judges were when Adam went to stand with Kris and Matt...just goes to show, you gotta vote
Not that I do or anything...Man, that must have been some kind of reality check for Adam!
-
I have always thought the judges did wrong when they wasted their one save on Matt. I think people just take it for granted that the overall fave will win and they go to bed rather than vote. I think that's what happened last night. You could tell Adam was pretty stunned. My hubs says it might be because people are very prejudiced and won't vote for a person with a "non-traditional" sexual orientation, but I don't believe that. I think it's the failure-to-vote syndrome.
Well, I feared they'd foist an older generation had-been on us for the "entertainment" portion of the results show, and what did they do? They gave us a newer generation has-been who thinks his computer-altered "voice" is something to share. Can't stand the guy. Didn't like his movies and hate the way he's trying to ride the coattails of those young too-large-a-size-pants-wearing-crotch-pawing rappers. At least Natalie Cole can sing even if she sounded pretty worn to me last night. I know she's had a lot of problems in her life but I hope she is successful in her return to the stage. She sure is young enough to make a go of it.
-
Oh my gosh! I couldn't believe last night's results. I was so shocked when it came down to Matt and ADAM! Wow! I just sat there saying, "This can't be right!" This next week is Rock 'n Roll and Adams should be able to shine there.....not that he hasn't shined all along. Artsee, I imagine you were right there with me, staring at the screen with your mouth wide open!
Anna, I'm with you. I think the judges did waste their save on Matt. By the looks on their faces, I think they were as shocked as we were when Adam was in the bottom three. Also, my guy thinks like your hubby. He says he wouldn't vote for a guy wearing eye makeup. In our case I think it's a generation thing and the age-old macho image that they were raised with. This might have something to do with the results as well as people just assuming he's going to win and thus not voting.
Whew! What a close one!

Regarding the " SAVE " option.... that wasn't to be used as an option right to the end ( like when only 2 - people were left competing)...... the week BEFORE the Judges finally used it on MATT ...... Seacrest said " With 2 weeks left to use the SAVE option ... will the JUDGES use it tonite ??" That Week they didn't... so two weeks left to use it - and they finally used it on MATT ( Knowing that they still had one week left to be able to use the SAVE )
That was my understanding on the SAVE and the number of weeks they could use it on.........( like the SAVE can be used ONE TIME --- up to the week of the TOP 6 group-- type of RULE )
I too -- love watching this show weekly !! I am glad to see how well Danny is doing since he is from my state of Wisconsin
-
Sometimes I wonder if they sort of flub the result for the sake of entertainment. I wondered if perhaps, yes, Adam was in the bottom 3, but since the entire world is expecting him to win, perhaps the desperate producers (who seem to be jumping the shark all over the place the season) thought it would generate enough buzz (as it is, of course).
Seacrest has been on Ellen before, saying something along those lines....he just has to do it the way the producers say to do it, even though it is not in a certain order.
I admit, I kept grumbling....."if Adam leaves, I'm NEVER watching this show AGAIN!!!!!!" ha! I've said that a thousand times before, though.
I'm still going to go to an Adam concert. LOVE him!
-
I am glad Matt went home-- while he's a good singer, I don't think he's as good as the remaining four.
I was shocked when Adam was in the bottom two. I remember on dancing with the stars a few seasons back- thiat cheetah girl Sabrina was cut from the show when she didn't get enough votes, b/c she was clearly the best dancer...it was so sad.
I think next week Adam's fans will be in full force. It's so sad, b/c these four kids are so talented, I really don't want to see any of them go. They all are so unique in their singing styles, and the tone of thei voices.
This is the first time I don't know what's going to happen in the least....
-
Holy Smokes! I can't believe that Adam was in the bottom 2!! I was just saying to someone, that with people being somewhat sure that he will win, they might not think he needs any more votes. Assuming that he is getting enough. Guess it's time for me to start voting. It was sad to see Matt go, but someone had to go , and they are all so good! At this point they all have great careers ahead of them, if they choose.
-
I did vote for Adam instead of going to bed this week. Come on guys we got to get our vote in for him, it just takes a minute. His vocals are out of site. How do people know he is gay? Just because he wears make up and has a "look" doesn't make him gay.
-
I've never heard that he was gay. But even if he is---who cares!? Doesn't 'gay' mean 'happy'? I will vote for him next week, and I agree with Beth, that his fans will come out in full force next week after last night's scare.
-
I hate the way the show is sooo predictable in the way they deal with the results ... I just knew that when Ryan S had two line up on the left and two on the right that he was going to have Adam pick which group he wanted to join ... they've done that sooo many times. You never know what the person will do ... others have refused to play that game - Adam easily choose who he thought was the stronger group.
The top 4 are really strong - it's going to be hard to see each of them leave.
Doreen
-
I definitely think it was voters being too comfortable that Adam would be in the top that they didn't bother to vote. I'm sure this won't happen next week. Adam is the leader right now regardless of this past week's voting results.
-
I didn't care for the way Ryan did that either. I'm sure that the 5 that are left have grown very close and by asking Adam to make that kind of choice, (everyone knew that Adam would choose the side that he thought was the strongest) It could cause an un-needed rift in their friendships. The 2 lowest ones could feel that Adam thought he was better than them. (even though he is, I don't think that he's the type of person to flaunt it)
-
If Adam's fans actually vote he's got it in the bag. I agree, the way Ryan asked him to choose sides was really awful. It made me feel uncomfortable, and you could tell Adam didn't appreciate it at all.

I just read here and saw pictures of Adam kissing guys and cross dressing but I am voting for him anyway because he has the best voice but I am thinking what a waste for some young woman. He is so hot.
-
Yes, Adam is openly gay. I hate to think that would make a difference when voting in a singing competition. But it would not surprise me either.

These are the most recent posts from my favorite blogger: Moraes on TV. I just about peed my pants in regards to her quotes from Jamie Foxx (what he said to Miley Cirus vs what he said to Allison. I also just want to mention how weird that whole "staged" cake baking fiasco was. I was rather disgusted at how much they were trashing the place, and wasn't stunned at the maid bill at all. One other thing: I type this as I watch my DVR from last night, and thought that Natalie Cole's performance was kind of off......I have no idea what her health issues are, and if she has health struggles, then I of couse change my stance to, "Bravo!". However, I just wasn't impresssed. Taylor Hicks is up next....may be adding in another comment..... Enjoy...."American Idol" Sort of Salutes the Rat Pack
It's Rat Pack Week on "American Idol," amended to Rat-Pack-Themed night at some point, but even so we assume the surviving Idolettes will be expected to convey guys cutting up and behaving like they own the joint while singing boozy but classy versions of sophisticated tunes from that day. Either that or the guys will all put on suits with narrow lapels and mussed-up ties, and Allison Iraheta will put on something she thinks adequately retro - aka non-scary - and hopefully perform an era-appropriate tune without putting it through her Rocker Chick grinder.Because, as Kris Allen so observantly noted, all of the members of the famous Rat Pack are, you know, dead, the Idolettes simply cannot imagine who is going to be their mentor this week. That's right, with just five Idolettes remaining, the producers have brought back the mentor and accompanying Plug the Mentor taped bit, because how else is the show going to run long this week? And, in one of those incredible coincidences that make covering the TV industry so metaphysical, just as Idolette Matt Giraud is entertaining us with his impression of Ray Charles, who walks in but Jamie Foxx, who played Charles in a Hollywood movie. "You're already an artist - you're my No. 1" Foxx tells Kris, in the love-ya-baby! ingratiating style of Rat Packer Sammy Davis, Jr.All dressed up in his grown-up suit, looking bright-eyed and adorable singing "The Way You Look Tonight" while contorting his little parallelogram mouth, Kris looks not so much boozy, womanizing, sophisticated-tune singing prankster Rat Pack guy as Hannah Montana's date to Cotillion. But judges Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, and Paula Abdul act as through he's the second coming of Tony Bennett, while also breaking the record for most uses of the word "impeccable" to describe one Idolette in a single performance. Meanwhile Simon Cowell - the only judge worth listening to - calls Kris's routine "a little bit wet." We have no idea what that means, but we totally agree. Simon also likens Kris's version of the tune to watching someone take a well-trained spaniel out for a walk. See "we have no idea what that means but we totally agree" above.Foxx, who recently told 16-year-old Miley Cyrus to "make a sex tape and grow up," to "get like Britney Spears and do some heroin," to "do like Lindsay Lohan...and get some crack in your pipe" and, last but not least, to "catch chlamydia on a bicycle seat," tells 17 year old Idolette Allison Iraheta she's way too young to have a boyfriend or to possibly understand what love is, so she should think about her family members and the support they give her while singing "Someone to Watch Over Me."Anyway, Allison takes that to mean she should slow down and un-rock her performance for the first time this season. She also wears a non-scary outfit for the first time. It's all surprisingly good and Randy praises it as "Pink - but with 9,000 more octaves." Kara is convinced Allison will not wind up one of the bottom three vote getters this week, but Simon, who's determined to sink Allison, says she's in trouble because she did not convey enough belief she could win this competition during her performance. Again, we have no idea what that means, really, but this time we totally disagree with him. Meanwhile, Paula's assistant has accidentally mixed up this week's prepared remarks about Allison's performance with copy he was writing on the side for a perfume ad in Vanity Fair: "an innocent sensibility that was both alluring and very tender." Foxx sends Matt Giraud away with no comment during the "mentoring" process, then calls him back with detailed notes about lowering the key and really holding on to a note near the end of the tune - the second bit of Foxx business this week that seems totally staged.Matt the Hat should be in his element on Rat Pack night, but instead comes across like someone who's trying way too hard without any real understanding of the tune - in this case "My Funny Valentine." He tries to hang onto the glory note like Foxx suggests but wimps out and trills some more. Matt also has trouble with the lower notes, suggesting Foxx did him a disservice in re the whole "lower the key" thing. Randy thinks it's a little pitchy. Kara and Paula issue dissenting opinions about the emotional connectedness of it all. And Simon continues to work overtime to justify the judges' use of their one Judges Save card on Matt - this week insisting Matt's performance is the only "authentic" tune he's heard so far tonight, "absolutely brilliant," right down to Matt's "Nat King Cole phrasing."Foxx appears to have the same reaction as Quentin Tarantino to Danny Gokey's come-from-a-musical-family bag-o-schtick. But unlike Tarantino, who forced Gokey to put his hands in his pockets while performing in hopes it would stop the annoying hand gestures, Foxx gets "right in his grille" during Gokey's rehearsal of "Come Rain or Come Shine." This, Foxx insists, brings Gokey's performance to its "purest" and "truest" state, though the evidence shows it only convinces Danny that Foxx is wildly eccentric. At any rate, whatever effect it had on Danny is not lasting, and his performance is conventionally stagy, though Danny gets props for fighting and slaying the drown-out arrangement by the tune's end. Randy fawns over Danny, Kara swoons over his swagger and Paula pronounces it "stellar." Simon notes Danny came out to prove a point, and calls his vocals the best he's heard from Danny in weeks. Danny makes a heart with his hands."Absolutely incredible - you don't care about who I am at all!" Foxx marvels at Adam Lambert during rehearsals - the most honest comment made by an "Idol" mentor. Ever. The only Idolette to really get into the whole Rat Pack spirit is Adam, who goes whole hog Vegas and opens his rendition of "Feeling Good" while strutting down The Ryan Seacrest Stairway from Paradise dressed in an iridescent white suit, black shirt and white tie. Once again, he's in a different, far more accomplished league than any of the other Idolettes, and the way he hangs on for dear life to his tune's second-to-last note puts Matt's performance to shame. Kara wins our heart when she calls Adam's performance "confusing and shocking and sleazy and superb and way over the top and, I don't know, I like you!" Paula, on the other hand, loses our love when she likens Adam's performance to Michael Phelps at the Olympics. Randy think Adam was a "little too theatrical" which, hello, is kinda the point in a week paying tribute to an act most closely associated with Vegas. Simon notes, correctly, that Randy's comment is like complaining when a cow moos.Matt the Hat Gets Whacked -- Again -- on "American Idol"
Fox celebrates its decision not to air President Obama's news conference by starting "American Idol" one minute early -- at 8:59 p.m. -- which will inflate early ratings on "Lie To Me," Fox's Obamavision alternative, making the network's decision seem that much smarter. Nicely done, Fox!
'Idol's' Matt Giraud gets eliminated for the second time. (Fox)Show host Ryan Seacrest boasts more than 47 million votes were cast this week, which is this season's record. On the other hand, the producers had opened up a second voting line for each of the five Idolettes this week, to cut down on the "Idol" voting that might be thwarted by busy signals.
Before the show gets started, Seacrest throws to judge Simon Cowell, who starts in with "normally I don't say this" and then praises all five Idolettes' performances, adding "I mean, seriously I've got to hand it to them, last night -- it was probably the best show at this stage I've ever seen." If we didn't know better we'd say he was doing some backing and filling, based on pre-knowledge of the voting results, and that something big was about to happen.
This week's Ford Music Video points out the benefits of a hybrid vehicle if you ever find yourself running through the desert and a camel just won't do.
This week's Group Lip Sync/Sing takes on the "Rat Pack era" tunes "It Don't Mean a Thing" and "I Got Rhythm," only Seacrest calls the first tune "I Don't Mean a Thing." Much snickering at my house.
Seacrest brings up Allison Iraheta's birthday -- again -- and reveals Danny Gokey recently had a birthday too. In honor of the occasions, the Idolettes are seen in a taped bit, being forced to bake a cake for the camera in the "American Idol" mansion. Adam Lambert seems to takes it seriously, but the others erupt into a food fight -- mostly the Birthday Boy and Girl. Video over, Seacrest wonders who started the food fight and Allison blames Danny, who is then handed a "gift" in the form of an envelope with a Best Bets Maids Service bill for $6,000 for the kitchen cleanup. Product placement -- did not see that coming.
"Are you good for it?" Seacrest asks Danny.
"You mean 'American Idol' doesn't pay for it?" Danny asks incredulously. "I mean, come on! All the money -- "
Danny's cut off by Ryan, who says "Maybe we'll take care of it -- if you win." Another forced humor moment with Danny has gone terribly awry. This brings us up to about three or four now, doesn't it?
Awkward cleanup gag over, it's time to cull the herd.
Seacrest sends Matt Giraud to the left side of the stage and Danny to the other side -- but only after Danny tells Seacrest that this week he listened to Simon's advice and started "watching performers and what they do and trying to take part of that and get it in my performance."
Seacrest asks Danny if he's saying he has studied the other Idolettes.
"I have and I'd rather not mention who," Danny says, dangerously. So Seacrest doesn't.
Allison joins Danny after Seacrest reminds her Simon said she was in trouble this week. And Kris Allen is told to join Matt the Hat.
That leaves Adam Lambert to play American Idol Sophie's Choice -- an annual event in which one Idolette is asked to pick which group he/she wants to stand with -- the Losers Group or the Winners Group.
Adam, who apparently has not been watching the show all along, does not know this is his queue to refuse to make that call.
"Oh, come on! I love everybody," Adam begins, on the right track. But then he adds, "based on last night -- probably that group." He points at Danny and Allison and walks over to join them.
But Seacrest, who has to be thrilled that, after all these seasons, Idolettes are still falling for this old gag, then dramatically leads Adam away from the Winners Group with an arm around Adam's shoulder, and over to Matt the Hat and Kris.
Adam is in the Bottom Three.
Adam takes it well but Danny and Allison look shocked. Members of the audience look shocked. Judge Paula Abdul calls it "crazy" and thinks they should end the show now in a five-way tie. Simon says it's not crazy and that's not a nice thing to say to Danny and Allison; he congratulates them both.
Asked what he thinks of the stunning development, judge Randy Jackson wants America he know he and this week's mentor Jamie Foxx go way back and Jamie had come to talk to him before tonight's show. Meanwhile, judge Kara DioGuardi notes that once again, when it comes to Adam, her mouth went open. Much snickering by Randy.
Time for Natalie Cole to come out and sing because it's Rat Pack Era week and she's got a tour to plug. She sings "Something's Gotta Give" while looking wonderfully less embalmed than last week's disco-era singers. And here comes former Idol, Taylor Hicks, singing "Seven Mile Breakdown" from his new album. He's lost half of himself and says "working, touring and being out with the fans" is his diet plan.
Seacrest says he's going to send someone from the Losers Pile to the Safety Seats. It's Kris -- he lets him know by tapping him on the stomach. This means either Matt the Hat or Adam is going to get booted this week, which means this results show will be utterly predictable or utterly surprising.
Time for "Idol" to pay up for Jamie Foxx's services as guest "mentor" this week. Foxx sings his new hit single, and gives yet another of those crotch grabbing autotone performances that seem to undermine the "Idol" franchise. He then chats with Seacrest about how the Idolettes are "five of the most talented people I've seen in the past 10 years."
Adam and Matt the Hat are brought out to hug Foxx. Seacrest wonders if Foxx thinks America got it right this week.
"I've hung with these guys and shared with them and it doesn't matter right now," Foxx begins.
"It's what's going to happen after this, and the careers that they're going to have after this and that is it, and also too, I got a movie out called 'The Soloist' so check it out."
Well, "Idol" certainly had that comng to it -- suppressing a man from plugging his movie opening when he's mentoring Idolettes, just because it's not a Fox flick. It's just not natural.
And finally, with only a few minutes left and nothing left to plug, it's time to announce who's out:
Two weeks after "American Idol" judges overrode viewers' decision to boot Matt the Hat from the singing competition...viewers booted him again.
A smarter judge than Kara would have realized what a resounding viewer non-endorsement of the Judges Save card this was. The Judges Save was introduced this season to make sure there would never be another Jennifer Hudson Embarrassment. You know, gimongously talented money-printing Idolette kicked off the show because his/her fans mistakenly thought he/she was so secure they did not pick up the phone to vote because it costs good money and then everyone talking the next day about what a travesty it was.
Kara, missing that elephant in the studio, tells Matt the Hat as he prepares to exit that "one of the best things we ever did this season was save you."
For two weeks? Really?
Had Adam been voted out, that would have had people talking today -- unlike Giraud's exit two weeks earlier, which the judges nixed.
This week Matt the Hat had mistakenly taken "mentor" Jamie Foxx's advice to lower the key in which he would sing "My Funny Valentine." Adam had no one to blame for his very Vegas performance of "Feeling Good," having apparently received no words of advice from Foxx, who reacted to Adam with "Absolutely incredible! You don't care about who I am at all!"
Another stunner: Simon, the night before, had called Matt's performance "absolutely brilliant" and heaped praise on Adam, too, while predicting Allison would be the Idolette who was at risk this week. At the end of Wednesday's results show, Seacrest asks Simon what advice he has for the four remaining Idolettes going into the next round of the competition.
"I'm probably the last person to give advice at the moment," Simon says in a rare instance of humility. Then, he thinks of some:
"Don't listen to me."
-
I think the drama of Adam being in the bottom 3 was done for the audience benefit and to make the show less predictable. But just in case, I will be voting for Adam next week. I think it will come down to him and Danny. They are both good and so is Alison. I liked Danny and Alisons reaction when Adam was taken to the other group to stand last night. They were astonished, especially Danny. Too bad more than one can't win but they will all have deals thrown at them so that's good. I will be amazed if Adam doesn't win it. I'll be mad and swear the contest is rigged. That man can sing anything and look good doing it.
-
I believe that Adam was in the bottom 2 for the same reason that Chris Daughtry (4th place), Tamyra Gray (4th place), and Jennifer Hudson (7th place) were voted off. People think they’re safe.
I wish we voted for the contestant we want OFF. But that would make it too predictable. Personally, I don’t think Adam needs AI to be a huge success. He’s a gifted artist who will get a recording deal or Broadway role without winning the AI crown.
But WE need him to win to show that we can see beyond stereotypes and prejudices. He’s clearly the top contender, gay or straight. So next Tuesday, get off your Harley, your saddle, your Naugahyde Barcalounger, your satin pillows….and VOTE FOR ADAM!! -
I very rarely ever vote but for the next few weeks I definitely will. Could not believe Adam was in the bottom three. Hubby said he thought if was staged to make things more interesting. I agree with those of you that said Adam was in the bottom because everyone thought he would get enough votes and was safe.
AnnaM - I totally agree with you on the song Jamie Fox performed. I must be getting really old because I can not believe it is the number one song. To me I don't even consider it singing.
Anyone know who the mentor for next week is?
-
Well, I'm definitely voting next week and more that once. This week was too scary.
Yes, Adam is gay. Everybody, go into "Utube'. I couldn't believe the stuff on Adam. Full drag and all.Amazing what's out there. Also you can view the "Wicked" videos he's been in. Also it shows him tunging a man......yes, kissing.
Still love him anyway. He is sooo likable. Vote, vote, vote!
-
artsee, how many times can we vote?
-
If you go back however many pages, you will see that I admitted my addiction to "Youtubing" Adam Lambert. There is a lot of awesome footage (and yes, some odd costume choices, ect). I just love him. Danny, too.
-
Spar - There is no limit on how many times you can vote.
-
Me too Whoops....hehe..
-
Hi Laura! : )
I'm with all of you that think Adam was placed in the bottom to assure people vote for him.
Idol does really need to showcase past amazing contestants rather than the pterodactyl's that are continuously brought on. Having the talented former contestants would not only show case their talents but what great memories for them and the camaraderie between everyone. JMYOpine.
-
I believe that this happened with Adam so they could bring some excitement into the show.Nobody knows whether or not he was second last, and we never will. He may of been right under Allison and Danny. But having him end up right in the middle, and being asked which side he wanted to be on, was a bit much. ?All done to make for a very interesting episode........Vote as many times as you fingers will let you.
-
Sahalie---I agree with you---Melinda Doolittle, Diana DiGarmo, Kathryn McFee, and Clay Aiken (my personal favorite) to name just a few!
As much as I love Adam, I'm really liking Alison a lot more after last night's performance--she was incredible!
Anne

I'm going out on a limb here and sure to be on the hate me list, but, I'm okay with Adam going home. I think the 2 best singers are Danny and Allison, remember it's a singing competition not a theatrical performance. I agree Adam comes out every week with something unique, but honestly his screaming doesn't impress me. Danny has an incredible voice, he just needs to get some more wow to him, Allison awe's me, she's only 17 and has such strength to her voice.
Shelley
-
Shelley, no hate. Everyone likes or dislikes who they like or dislike. I'm actually rooting for Kris and Allison. Tonight should be good. I don't remember the theme for tonight. Does anyone know?
-
Rock music, I believe? I don't remember if they were "selling" it as hard rock, rock and roll, general rock?
