Ooooh, Beth, the hair looks fantabulous! I love the swirly curls. Layering really does release the energy. Your color is perfect. Period. How does Matt like it?
Did anyone catch the Great American Haircut 2 or something like that on Oprah yesterday? Great cuts, but it depressed me since they are pushing pretty straight and smooth and I will not see that anytime soon. I feel so frumpy. Plus, everyone they did is a young 'un. Why don't they show older women? We need makeovers more than young ones do!!!
Okay, tell me if I should use liner on the bottom lids. I'm afraid to look too harsh. As far as mascara, the one I used today is a black Clarins sample. I've been using the last of the Clinique sample from last month or so and that makes my lashes fuller somehow.
Also, as you can see, I have pretty big eyes and lots of lid showing so I'm afraid of using too much color there because it shows so much, I look even more Bozo-ish. Help! I think I need more color or contouring but this is a tightrope act.........
See you tomorow. Am going off to work on my eyebrows.
-
Beth - I love it! The color is perfect for you and it does seem very very long! You look like you're up to no good in that first pic. Very cute and ornery.
Tina,
I found some cute frames
below. What do you think? grr - is it me, or does the photobucket never work the first time when you copy and paste?!?are these too Elvis?

not too sure about these...
like these - they also come in a cool pink and brown...

-
Straight and smooth? ugh, I'm right there with ya, Tina. I will go look for more frames - I can't find any that I really love yet.
-
Raye I like number two.
Tina- if you put liner inside your lower lid it will make your eye appear smaller-- however, you have big blue eyes, and if I had your eyes, I would rock blue liner on the insides.
I'm not a fan of liner on the outside of the lower part of the eye. It gets drippy, and sloppy, and I think it looks like a lot of makeup. Tina- have you tried the white liner on your eyes? Also, on your top lid I would 100% use a dark blue thin liner.
-
My hair looks long b/c I can't take a good picture. The front layers are above my chin.
M. liked it a lot.... I'm a little scared for when I wash it and see how short it is when it's super curly.
-
I like frames #2 and 3.
Tinted lashes: lasts 4-6 weeks. She suggested that on the first time, she usually recommends they return in 2-3 weeks for a re-do. Says it makes the tint last longer and be more intense. I'm still looking for a local. LOL, 2 hrs drive is way too far for lashes.
My next choice is to go back to tortoise shell glasses. I've done it before and it's great with almost all hair colors. I have auburn so it does well with that. With round faces it's advised to have rectangle frames. I have found that for a large round face that women's frames, especially nowadays with the tiny frames, are too narrow for my face, so I get men's.
Now the purple were not men's . Of COURSE not!
-
Okay, I'm going to be the non-trendy one here. I think these narrow frames would be criminal on Tina's gorgeous wide blue eyes. The style tends to squinch up the eye into a confined space. Have you ever looked at someone in those frames and thought "what large, beautiful, almond-shaped eyes?" I certainly never have. My first vote would be to correct the problem with contacts or surgery and never have to buy expensive frames again - out here the surgery is waaay cheap because of the competition. This would allow this wondrous asset to shine in all its nekkid glory.
At any rate, at least a frame large enough to clear the beautiful bone structure of her browbone and "frame' her eye. You know "frames"?!?I agree that the brows need just a bit of cleaning up to look their very best. I'd also bring them in just a tiny smidge off the bridge of the nose. I think you could do miracles with a neutral pencil/liner shadow combo (Clinique makes 'em, dual-tipped "Quick Eyes"). The pencil liner is the more intense shade, the shadow liner is a smudgy softer shade and easier to work with. You can use a gentle line of this below the outer 1/3 of the lower lashes and it doesn't look at all harsh. Definitely wear some color on those lids! Just blend, blend blend! And wear a couple of more coats of that great mascara (gee do you detect a bit of envy here from Miz My-Lashes-Grew-Back-Skimpy-So-Far?)
Tina, have you ever gone to one of the good counters (Chanel, Clinique, Estee Lauder, Prescriptives, etc) on a weekday (non-busy) and asked for an 'eye-coaching'? Sure, you ought to buy something, maybe a primer or a mascara, but only the Chanel will be realllly pricey. And even their single colors are not bad. I just think you could get some really good tips - you've got such a fabulous canvas on which to work!
Beth - your hair turned out just as STUNNING as I knew it would! I hope you went out to fling those new layers around a bit. There's nothing like freshly cut ends and a good blow-out to make a girl feel like a million bucks! Well, new lipo doesn't hurt either, huh? Neither does that gaw-jus gem on your ring finger! Ah, life is sweet!
Raye - your gorgeous, shining hair was about 1 1/2 inches longer than mine - and beginning to relax about the same way, too. I say was. . . because I gave up and had mine cut this past weekend. I couldn't stand the lanky 'sideburns' anymore - and that was one of the areas that was losing curl the most. I took a photo, a cutting diagram, and step-by-step written instructions as a prompt for the stylist I was referred to as a good "short hair' specialist. I wanted the sides and back cut into a classic wedge - the top needed to catch up. The top layers are traditionally the longest in that style. "No problemo!" Well, let's just say she was a little unclear on the concept, despite all of my preparations. So now I need to let in grow out another ~4 weeks and try again. And as you all know better than anyone, it took a lot to let anyone cut anything .

Yet another reason to keep putting yours up or back or whatever, Raye. With the work I do, I had a hard time clinically at this in-between stage. Oh well. A decently-cut wedge actually looks good on me and is very easy to take care of. I just have to get there. grrrr
hugs.

Dotti -- I had to chime in on the purple frames ... About a month before I found my lump, I bought some light purple frames - totally out of character for me, as I had been a dark frame kind of girl. Well, you would not believe the compliments I get! It also helped detract attention from the wig (little did I know at time of purchase!) and looked fab with the punk-styling I had to do when hair was really short (I stopped wearing a wig about three months out of treatment). You will love, love, love them!
Tina - You have gorgeous eyes! I bet that you get find a frame that accentuated them.
Beth - The hair is gorgeous - it also frames your face beautifully!
And, Raye ... your hair looks adorable ... Despite the fact that I cut my hair, I would agree with Beth to keep letting yours grow. You're young enough and cute enough to get away with headband on days when it is out of control! In a weird way, seeing your photos cofirms my decision to keep my hair on the short side. I'm of the age (50!) when women have shorter hair. Prior to losing it all, it was down my back and way out of control. When I look back now, I can see how inappropriate it was. But, Raye and Beth ... you guys are working it so well!
Hugs,
Hillary

Raye, I am assuming the frames are for yourself??? While the first ones may be a little Elvis, the second pair is a little Elvis Costello, don't you think? Have you tried on this shape? Is this still the trend in frames, that long, narrow shape?
Overall, I like #3 frame the best but it really all depends upon what shape is good for your face shape.
I hate having to pick a pair of frames that you have to wear for a couple of years (until they go out of style or break). They are there everyday on you face. No matter what.
I do have contacts, but at my age they correct so well that I have to wear one with my (huge) distance correction plus astigmatism, and one with no prescription except for the astigmatism. This way, one eye focuses on near, one on far. It is a pip to get used to but doable.
If I had corrective surgery for my distance vision, I would not be able to see a thing close up, like reading labels on cans, even. I would then have to tote around and be putting on and off cheater glasses. As it is, without my glasses, I can read in bed no problem. I always take off my glasses to read for any length of time any time of day. It's much more comfortable. I would give all that up if I had laser surgery. Blah. No easy fixes. All those people who had laser surgery in their youth to eliminate the need for glasses will be totally dependent upon cheaters as they age. It's trading off one set of problems for another. I decided I would rather live with the devil I knew, rather than the devil I didn't.
Dotti, I used to have my lashes tinted, too. Loved it. I just have not been back to the person that used to do them. Probably should find someone competent. Putting dye on your eyes is tricky and you better be sure the technician knows what they are doing.
I used my Clinique high impact mascara again today and it is much fuller looking than the Clarins from yesterday (in my pics). I should note, also, that my lashes are thinning for the FIFTH time since ending chemo. Every three months like clockwork. This time, they are only falling out a little at a time so that my lashes are just slightly moth-eaten looking right now. It's so discouraging but I imagine it could be lots worse.
Okay, I am definitely going out looking for a new mascara in very dark blue. I'll check the L'Oreal Beth likes so much. If that isn't available, I will find something else.
Lisa, thanks for all the feedback. I know my brows start too far out from my nose; they didn't used to when I was young. I think either I overplucked or they just crapped out with the years. I tried using a bit of brow makeup there today (I have the Anastasia in medium ash) and it does look a bit better. It's tricky to do it without looking too obvious. I looked at the Clinique site for the product you refer to but cannot seem to find it. What is the actual name of it? I AM GOING MAKEUP SHOPPING LATER TODAY AFTER I FINISH MY WORK WHICH I SHOULD BE DOING RIGHT NOW INSTEAD OF CHATTING HERE!!! Cannot wait.
Finding a good hairdresser is next to impossible. That's a topic for another discussion when I have more time. Grrrrrrrr.
-
I love glasses and lots of different styles, but for myself, I prefer the old-fashioned larger (Adam Ant) ones because the smaller, shallower ones make my face look huge! I used to have so much trouble wearing glasses because my lashes were so long they'd be smack up on the lenses and it would be uncomfortable. I wish I still had THAT problem! Anyway, I actually DID buy a pair of red Bulgari frames after treatment because I was feeling wild and fun one day and I still love them (but only when I'm feeling wild & fun). I'll have to take a pic....
Tina....Lancombe Defencils mascara comes in blue and is fabulous

-
No. Tina, my mistake - when I said bring them off the bridge of the nose I meant bring them just a few hairs wider. So, you are just naturally moving in the right direction! And I had thought Raye was posting all those frames as suggestions for YOU. Maybe I was just totally confuzzled. And the name of the Clinique combo was called "Quick Eyes". Probably don't make it anymore. I've had it mumbleMANYmumble years.
Marin - love the new avatar. I was wondering when we'd get to see then new blonde, long-haired, tanned edition! HUBBA-HUBBA!
Lisa

Oh, OH, the red Bvlgari frames are what got me looking at new frames!!!!! Isn't that something. May not be the same ones, but it is a coincidence.
I have already been thru the tiny eyed glasses---I had wee cat eyes all thru college--had to look straight down to go down steps. LOL. I've been thru the granny glasses and no frames, and huge frames and weird frames. Now I'm going to have Purple and lavender frames!! Yippeee!!
-
Go, Dotti! I love it when women have the courage to keep changing their style.
MARIN!! You devil, you! You are looking SO GREAT, woman! I used to use the Lancome mascara in black and it does look great but I found it so hard to take off at night, then it would somehow stain my pillowcase. How do I avoid that?
WELL. Time to dish about my cosmetics trip yesterday. Only went to Macy's, as that's all we have locally.
First, I went to the Clinique counter because they were having some sort of event, doing makeup on people. It was a lull in the action so one of the women just plopped me down in a chair and did stuff to me. Bottom line, they have a new color in eyeliner pencil, Cobalt, which is utterly fabulous on me! When I tried to buy it, though, they found they were out of stock! Blah. Also, they didn't have any choices in eyeshadow that weren't shiny (very bad on me) or colored mascara. So, I moved on to................
The Chanel counter. There was a very lovely young Polish woman, here for only six years, who waited on my. She was so chic! Sat me down, also, and did me. Well, I enjoyed her so much that I bought stuff. Chanel has an eyeliner crayon, twist up, fine, that is waterproof. Does not smudge on its own. I bought it in Marine (dark blue). I am wearing it today.
Also bought Beige (sounds so boring), a very light, light color, of matte, powdered eyeshadow. Use it over the entire lid and browbone and inner eye area. Looks wonderful. Lights up my whole eye.
She also convinced me to go for the mascara in brown. She said black was too harsh on me. I have my doubts but bought it anyway as it's time to try something new. Besides, I just LOVE the beatiful black elegant tube. LOL All told, I racked up $87 in charges, minus 20% for opening a charge account. I am such a sucker.
Still want to try dark blue mascara. That's for another day.
Oh, I bought the August issue of InStyle magazine and it is so chock-full of makeup info. You've just gotta have it. Also, so much clothes info, but that's for the Fashion thread. See you over there!
-
Tina, the frames were suggestions for you!! ha. Maybe I did throw in a pair that I liked(#2), but was looking for you. But Lisa has a great point, your eyes are way too beautiful to be boxed in. You need to show off those peepers.
MARIN!! You gorgeous thing you. I LOVE the new avatar.
Ladies will type more later. You've been so busy!
Need to bake some cookies (well honestly, put the prepackaged TollHouse ones in the oven) for my nephew who is coming over with my brother in a few minutes.
Raye

Marin you look amazing-- I can't believe how long your hair is!!!
Tina my favorite eye makeup remover is the almay in the white and blue jar, not the white and purple. It is for sensitive skin, but the blue is NOT oil free, and I like that b/c it moisturizes my eyes as I take off my makeupl. I also wash my face first and then use the eye wipe pads. Works much better that way.
-
My Almay is oil free in the purple tube. Maybe I should try the oily one.
While I'm at the cosmetics counter, I want a very sheer powder to take the shine off my face. I'm thinking mineral type powder, not a makeup but some other sort of thing. There are so many products out there today that I don't know what to look for and once a sales clerk gets their hands on me I just go with the flow. Then, I'm mad at myself for not sticking to what I wanted.
So, what do I want? Name names.
-
my tried and true brand that I have used for more years than I can count is Maybelline shine free powder in number 2.
It comes as pressed powder and loose powder. I hardly use any, b/c I don't want to dry my face out, just get rid of a little shine on my nose and forehead.
I've never liked any of the expensive counter products better then the maybelline.
-
I've found the rice paper tissues are the best for removing oil. And you don't have to worry about colors or weight on your face, just blot and you're set to go.
-
I love those papers! They truly work wonders! great to keep in your purse.
-
Where do you get them? Just online or does CVS have them?
I bought some of that John Frieda Glaze this weekend, in the clear, no color, since my color is fresh and I don't want to make it darker. It seems you can either use it every shampoo or as a major application once a month or so. Has anyone else used it? Beth's glaze made me want to try it.
EDITED TO ADD: Has anyone tried this? The dry nail polish strips? http://www.cafeglam.com/2007/12/new-dry-nail-po.html

Ok I'm back..baby's sleeping...
Beth love the hair!!
Here's pregnany poetic wax story - I was about 8 months along and decided to wax myself even though I couldn't see the "area" didn't have a full length mirror and couldn't bend well...I'm sure you can see where this is going...
I heat it up and forget to apply the condition oil that allows it to not stick - so I slop it on and go to remove it...it's stuck..and it hurts like hell..and I can't see what I'm doing anyway...
so I pick it off piece by piece - there's dripping wax on the floor and pieces all over the place..then my husband says what the hell are you doing in there...he opens the door and his eyes popped out of his head...
It looked like a crime scene..I'm in tears and laughing...soooo don't try that at home when you can't even see your "area" lol
-
Marisa.....that is hilarious!!! I'm willing to bet, though, that you had a clean, lovely area all ready for the birthin' Of course, by then, did you really care???

Thanks for the laugh!
~Marin
-
Funny story, but you did not tell us about the new baby!!! How is he and do you love being a mom??? Your buddies want to know.
-
Raye ....... I wear headbands and clips. I also have use PAPERCLIPS to hold them dang bangs back!!!!! I am growing them out and they are a bit longer than yours. I had my ends clipped shorter so I have a bob again. Mostly, my bangs can just finally reach behind my ears ....
Avon has papers to blot the oil off your face and it doesn't remove your make-up!
-
Yes..my husband helped me - but I had a c section so it didn't matter that much..and you're right..at that point I didn't care

Motherhood is great - he's so beautiful..here's some pics

Love Marisa
-
Oh!!!! He's beautiful!!!!! And I see books already! He's so smart to be in the AR class (accelerated reader) ... LOL
Lucky lady!
-
lol thanks!
-
sooooooo adorable...
-
What a cutie pie! I see that someone knitted him a blue blankie. I just finished a pink one for my goddaughter's first baby, a girl due in October. The shower is tomorrow.
Kisses for baby.
