I like the dark brown. It makes the most of your natural coloring.
When I went to the hairdresser last week, I insisted that he just use an ash color, one that deposits only, not lifts, over what he has been doing, which I think has been too warm for me. The new results, while darker looking because of the lack of "golden/copper/whatever," is much more flattering. I'd been complaining to him for months about my color and he kept "adjusting" but not enough. I finally told him if he couldn't get me to where I wanted, I was going back to doing it with a bottle from the drugstore! That gave him religion. Now, I am much happier.
I may still go back to doing it myself.
You might want to ask for a no-lift color so that you don't keep pulling the red that is already in your hair (which we all have to some extent). The lift gets rid of the masking color and leaves the red, which is harder to budge.
I really love the deep brown on you with the pink cheeks. So pinchable.

-
Oh, yes, Tina - oh so pinchable my darling.
Beth - when you have your hair done, please post some pics - can't wait to see!
I am having hair dilemmas today. Bangs to my nose, so I pull them back; curly, unruly hair that I put up into a pony and try to make it look like a bun or I do a low bun.
HENCE, I am considering getting a cut - eeks, scares me as I don't want to lose any length - maybe instead of a cut, a "style", since I apparently do not have one now. What do you think girls? Cut, style, bang trim? (again, not complaining, I love having hair again!!). Sorry to go on (and on and on), but if I just hang in there and be patient, I can have long curly hair, which I've always loved...
-
Raye I've struggled with this for the last two years. Ultimately, I didn't cut it. I let it grow, and grow. Now that I FINALLY got it long enough, I feel like cutting length and cutting a style to it, is easy as pie. The thought doesn't even scare me... which is huge for me.
I always said the longer my hair grew, the further away I felt from cancer. But now, I'm ready to cut it. Thursday is the big day. When I had the red color put in, we cut very long layers in the front, and I am TOTALLY ready to kick it up a notch. I am cutting the layers shorter in the front to give me more height and volume since the length is weighing down my curls.
I am totally going for the dark brown. I almost don't even know what I was thinking when I changed it-- other than, I just needed something different. But the more I look at the dark color the more I love it. It makes my eyes look darker and I love that too.
Lol at the pinchable cheeks. They are naturally pink... even with foundation I rarely need to put blush on which is why I stick with bronzer usually.
Raye also if you cut your hair you won't be able to put it in a pony tail or bun, which for me is ESSENTIAL on these nasty humid days, and when I just can't do anything with it.
Also, on a side note, I went out to a bar the other night to catch my friends band playing, and I was rushing out of the shower, so I didn't have time to do my hair.
I put it in two low pigtails, and braided them. Okay, a little throw back to the days when I wore rainbow bright pajamas and played with lite bright, BUT, they garnered me a lot of attention from the guys, and so many people said they loved the way they looked, among othe things that are inappropriate to post here.
Anyway, I will totally post pics on Thursday. I can't wait!
I'm going to target later for a few little makeup purchases- nothing big just regular stuff, but I can't wait to check out the latest products on the shelf.
I'll dish later.
-
Beth - Can't wait for Thursday and I'm sure neither can you! Dark Brown locks!! You will look totally fab.
OK, you've convinced me to hang in there! And you are right, if I cut it, I cannot pull it into the bun or ponytail, which I love doing. Thanks for the reinforcement. You talk about needing a change and coloring your hair red -- I think I need a change as well, hence my desire to cut, but I'll wait.
Your story about going out wearing the braids cracks me up. I say this because when I had long hair pre dx, I'd go out rocking either the two pigtails or two braids. I was in my mid thirties, a little old as you mention - a throwback to wearing the it's raining men pjs. But, I too would get compliments, to which I'd reply, I'm a bit old for this look, but I LOVE IT.
Report your findings at Target.
Raye
-
Raye...Why don't you just get your hair shaped? That's what I've been doing ever since it started to grow back after chemo and its now longer than shoulder length and in great condition. It also falls well and I can put it in almost any style at all. I started with a pic of Jennifer Aniston and we've been working on achieving a similar look for well over a year now. Now I just need Jen's face too
!As for color, Tina, I am so there with ya on the warm/golden tones. They make me look sickly or trampy...or both, and I hate them. I always get cool beige highlights and, then, because it starts to turn brassy-ish within several weeks, I go in mid-way between highlighting and get my hair "glazed." She puts on a purple glaze and it cools the color right up. Ask your hairdresser about it.
~Marin
-
I've heard about hair glazes. You can even have them done on hair that hasn't been colored just to give it a high gloss finish and shine.
And prior to dying my hair the red color I thought of putting a glaze over my hair and calling it a day. I don't regret coloring my hair, but if I love the color after this Thursday I'm going to stick with the glazes too.

Target was a success. It was a combination of a splendid and terrible trip all rolled into one.
Part of what I love about shopping during the day on a weekday is that the stores are empty, and I am free to roam the aisles, without having to constantly pull and push my cart out of other people's way. I don't have to deal with annoying, screaming children that run through the aisles and knock things over. I can just shop.
So I'm cruising up and down the makeup aisles, at a slow pace, totally enjoying myself, when the first problem occurs. Shopping carts of throwbacks lined the aisles, and the shelfs were 75% empty. Nothing was where it was supposed to be, and I was really dismayed at this- b/c there were a TON of items I would've bought, if they had only been on the shelf, and within my grasp. I shouldn't have to dig through carts to get an item off the shelf.
I digress.
I get to the first clear aisle, and although a lot of stuff was missing I did manage to grab a few new items, and I am loving them.
From the brand No7 I got the Lip Glace Ultra shiny lipgloss in fudge. It's almost like a bronzer for your lips. It tastes good, it's not overly sticky on my lips and I LOVE the color. ($9.99)
Then I've decided to go back to my tried and true loreal double extend mascara in the blackest black. After trying two other brands these last two months, I dug out my old tube and used it the other day, and I can honestly say no mascara even comes close to it.
Then I hit up the RIMMEL section. I was really upset that there looked like so many products that I wanted to try but the shelf was empty. I did pick up one new shadow, and I am so impressed.
It's called Stir it Up eye shadow. Basically it looks like three different colors splatter painted all over eachother. There's a lot of colors, but the one I got is a mix of silver, black and white speckles. I put my blender brush from MAC in it, and swept the crease of my eye-- it took two seconds to create a smoky eye color, just from this one shadow. I totally love it.
Then, the coolest product of all...
Target has started to carry a line from the UK called Soap and Glory cosmetics. The aisle in Target is a cute pink color, you can't miss it.
Anyway, I am toting this next product as a MUST BUY. It's a spray can called EASY GLISTENING. It says on the can, posher, softer skin, now. Lazy girls just love easy glistening.
It is sweet Almond dry oil body gloss. You shake the can, and spray it on legs, arms, etc. It smells delish, and gives you a cool blast. And you glow and sparkle, but not in that cheesy sparkle kind of a way. It's PERFECT. I grabbed the last one on the shelf.
I picked up two cute tops, pj's, a new bra for $10. that I love, and the thongs are on sale 3 for $9.
All in all you'd think it was a good trip.
But then I got to the register, and the stupid yet wonderful bodyspray, wasn't ringing up in the register.
Instead of calling a manager, another cashier volunteers to go find the price, and grabs it out of the cashiers hands. I start saying, wait thats the last one, don't walk away with it... blah blah... I end up standing there for 10 minutes, getting more and more aggrivated with every passing second. By this time the manager doesn't understand why the cashier has left the register, and now it's causing a scene. The scene that I go to the store to avoid--- I was so ready to walk out, but the only thing that kept me there, was the fact that I had spent so much time shopping, and I really didn't feel like going to another Target and starting all over again.
The body spray was $6.99, but she gave it to me for 3.99. I guess I'm supposed to feel better?
the end.
-
Giggle. Such a story.
I think that Soap and Glory is another new company started by the woman who started Bliss. I think I read that off some literature from the cans at Target a couple of months ago. I agree. The stuff is wicked cute.
Thongs??? THEY should pay YOU to wear those instruments of torture. I don't care how embarassing big panties are, they are so comfy. Three for $9.00 indeed.
I must try that L'Oreal mascara soon. And, is the Rimmel eyeshadow pearly?
-
Marin - I decided just go buy some lipstick (Love It by Lancome) instead of having a shaping. Maybe next month.
- the glazing sounds awesome. OMG! Beth and Tina - I am LMAO at the shopping story and the subsequent remark about the thongs! whoo hoo. Nothing like a good laugh at 4:25.
Raye
-
And I was about to post...WHAT? 3 for $9! I'm leaving work right now to stock up! I can't wear anything but thongs because I feel like the fabric is bunching up all over. Are these Gilliam O'Malley, Beth?

Here's a link to some S&G product reviews.
http://productwhores.typepad.com/productwhores/soap_glory/
Oh, Marin, of COURSE you would be a thong-wearer. We would expect NO LESS from you. When you're hot, you're hot.
Myself, my granny panties alone turn on the old boy so well that I would not know how to handle him after exposure to a thong. <Me, rolling my eyes> Ladies, please, you're killin' me. LOL
-
well the hipster panties were on sale too!
-
You're all hot in my opinion, regardless of the panties you wear (or don't).
Sorry girls, back to hair - a bang trim? I need a change.
Raye
-
Oh, hair. I was just thinking that I should ask you all what I can do with my hair, too.
First, Raye, do you normally wear bangs or is this a "let's do something different" move? I love bangs but be sure you want them as it takes forever to grow them out. I'm thinking your bangs are still very curly, like mine? Mine just boing up to the top of my forehead and sit there. Cannot even blow them straight as they creep up almost immediately.
Actually, I guess you cannot really say we have bangs. It's just the length that the overall hair has grown to.
Are you starting to see straighter hair towards the roots? Mine seems flatter there now. I would like to keep a bit of curl, just not as much as I have had this past year.
I am looking like Bozo the Clown. Sticking out at the sides with the curl. Day 1, after wash, is fine but Day 2, after sleeping on it, is Bozoville. I've tried spritzing with water bottle (just like Bozo!) but it doesn't work. I have to totally wet down my whole head. This really puts a crimp in my day. Any other suggestions? I am wearing headbands frequently, too.
You and I are in the same, awful place.

Okay, I'm over it. Moving on.
-
Raye resist the change, and back away from the scissors.
Go buy a cute head band. How about posting a picture of the current bang situation so we can better assist you.
At least you and tina are in the same awful place together. I know I always feel better when my friends hair looks wild and unmanagable too. JUST KIDDING... I love my friends, even if some of them are skinny b*tches.
-
Bozo - I mean Tina, I do sometimes wear bangs, but prefer them down to my cheeks and not real short; so, you are correct in that I am looking for a change.
Beth - I will post a pic below of the current state of afhairs. Horrible- but it's factual today.
I haven't washed my hair in a couple of days - if I do it dries out the ends even with my oily hair - hence, my hair is straighter than it would be freshly washed. Tina, my bangs are starting to straighten, especially after not washing it for a couple of days. Even with washing, I really have to scrunch my bangs to get them curly (althought they are wavy). I can easily straighten my bangs. The rest of the hair is definitely starting to relax as well. Tina, I have to wet mine to get it back to the freshly washed look as well, but I typically wear mine up; however, there is a product that helps my hair - that Hemp Alterna, very good stuff. Helps keep it somewhat inline and manageable, even without washing it every day.
Frightening - not to mention I feel like an A$$ taking my picture in my office. Please note I am most certainly not wearing my hair like this today - it is down for the camera darlings.

-
DO NOT CUT YOUR BANGS. Your ends could use a trim though. tee hee
Raye, you are so close to having them at the length where they will be tuckable behind the ears, and on their way to growing out, and giving you a layered look which will angle and frame your adorable face.
LOVE your hair color BTW. That's what I want, a nice, rich, deep. chocolatie brown. All you need is to stick a head band on and your hair is fine.
And I love that you are taking pictures of yourself in the office... they must think you're nuts, but who cares? Aren't we all??
I could take a wide cotton head band or scarf, then pull your bangs through it, and you'd be perfect.
JMHO
-
LOL - Yeah, I need a trim big time, but my guy will then perhaps trim more than I want. I do appreciate your opinions BTW.
Yes! I love dark brown and the fact that it gets darker as I get older. Can't wait to see the dark brown on you!! It will be splendid! Well, you know, you've had it before. Still can't wait! Tomorrow, right?
-
Here is my old hair before I had it cut for chemo - It was cut in long layers and naturally wavy - I wouldn't mind having it like that again; of course a bit more eh styled - it is very messy in this photo - I must have been dancing around the camper to STP or something.
(edited to remove pic) -
I was in Nashville for a mammo (neg!!!) and stopped at a consignment shop I like and discovered a skin shop (no nails or hair) next door. I'd tried to have my "new" long lashes tinted in my small town but had not had much luck.
Anyway---they moved another client for me to get the lashes tint---I was just amazed! It really made a huge difference for Me! Except for curling or thickening, I could go without mascara. I will definitely keep this up! It was $18 which I feel is pretty reasonable to have lashes that show all the time -- even in the pool!
THEN--I've been wanting some red eyeglasses frames. Had tried on a pair that a new friend was wearing and loved them. Have been looking, as has my optician, for several months, since the ones I tried had been discontinued. I stopped at a Lenscrafters and they were having a sale: I tried on, just for fun, a purple/lavender pair. It was amazing how my blue/turquoise eyes popped with those frames! So, I bought a set that I'd never in a million years have even tried and am really excited about a NEW me!
Going to get some purple eyeliner and see what happens with that and/or shadow. I've always been told to use browns to make blue eyes stand out, but I do think the purple made a huge difference.
-
Raye, your hair looks WAY better than mine! Besides, you are so cute. That always helps. My hair has not relaxed as much as yours. Add to the picture I am not as young or as cute.
Oh, what a picture!Right now, my hair, freshly washed, is at my shoulders; after it dries, it is chin-length. THAT's how boingy it is! Must try to get some pics soon to post. Ya wouldn' b'lieve it!
Dotti, that is really exciting about finding new colors for yourself. You are inspiring me to go out looking for new frames. Although I love mine, they are almost three years old. I need a change.
Now, must check Sephora to see if their colored eyeliners are back in stock.
-
Dotti - First of all, congrats on the negative mammo. Secondly, I LOVE the sound of your new frames. So cool! I too, have had the same glasses for about 3-4 years and would love to get a new pair - it's just that I mostly wear contacts, except at night when at home and can't justify spending the money. I'd love to get these cute funky black framed ones that one of my girlfriends has.
Wow, Tina, your hair is to your shoulders? That is long! If I pull mine down, it is to the end of my neck, but not quite to my shoulders yet. I am hoping by next spring, it will be shoulder length or longer. BTW, you are VERY CUTE!!!
Today, I have a headband on (silver) as Beth recommended. I have it close to my forehead so my hair on top sticks up a bit - I don't like that flat head look.
Happy shopping on Sephora, Tina.
Raye
-
Raye to avoid the flat headband look, I generally use mousse or I style my hair as if I wasn't going to put a head band in-- ie don't put it on wet hair.
Then with the head band in place I'll flip over and spray it a little to get some volume on both sides of the headband.
Hair cut and color in 3 hours!!!
Dotti-- YAY on the mammo! And I'm so glad you wandered into that shop for your eyelashes. What exactly do they do to them? Is it permanent? How often do you get it done? Please enlighten me.
And I love the sound of the new frames too! When I was in college I read a study that people with glasses were perceived to be about 20% smarter then those without. Wanting to remain competitive in school, I went to the glasses store, and explained that I had 20/20 vision, but I wanted glasses for fashion purposes. They looked at me like I was nuts, but I walked out with glasses. The were on a silver or black frame- it was so long ago I can't remember, and I broke them within a few weeks of having them, but I ALWAYS loved the way they looked on my face.
Both of my parents started wearing glasses at the age of 45, so I know I'll have that to look fwd to. If I had them now I would rock out tortoise shell.
I digress.
-
Beth - you must be at the stylist now. Can't wait to see the results.
Yeah, I styled my hair as if I was not going to wear the headband. Here are the results, not great - but better than yesterday!!!

-
Oh, you don't know how much LESS curly you are than me. I dont even dare show my hair right now.

OTOH, here are my eyes, and my eyes alone. First, without my glasses, then with. I need suggestions for eye makeup and new glasses. My current ones, as you can see, are rimless and the sides are clear acrylic with a few, tiny Swarowski crystals embedded. Just for funny and because I am such a classy dame. Yeah!
In the photos, I am wearing my everyday liner/mascara, a little shadow under the browbone.
-
Wow, Tina - you've got some gawgous eyes. "Jeepers Peepers..."
I'd trim that right (in the photo) brow just a bit and perhaps fill in both with some soft pencil or brow power to match the current brow color. I'd also wear some darker mascara and perhaps try a dark blue or even purple (as Dotti mentioned) liner- not sure about shadow (you really don't need any IMO - but maybe a light taupe? I am going on line right now to find some frames...be back soon.
Raye
-
I'm back. Wow-- I cut a lot of layers. It's way shorter than I thought, but still looks long- it feels so much lighter! The color is fantastic. It's a semi permanent and only cost me $20!!!!! my haircut alone is $60...
these pix don't do it justice, but here it is:

-
-
You don't really see how dark it is in these photos--- but I am loving it.
Raye, your hair looks adorable in that picture-- you do not need to cut it.
-
Tina whatever that mascara is in the top photo is totally working for you!...
