I love the story about the whippets...I think whippets are the softest and extremely loving...

Well it is 7:20pm here and my sons have just gone ten pin bowling! They will be back about 9pm and then I think I will be in bed earlier than usual...those new tablets making me feel lethargic and sick...I will give them my best shot....

My scar is very itchy tonight and achey...and for the first time I can sense that pinching feeling the growth was giving me...even though its not there...its very annoying and strange....

Sue, I have not been on much this week, too busy at work. I hope that the meds the doc gave you will help you feel better.  You have seen my dog in my avitar. When she gets in trouble, she goes to her corner and looks at me with those sad eyes and I am sorry that I spoke harshly to her. I loved all the puppy picts and stories from everyone.

About getting sick on chemo, my mom said that When she was on chemo she found that if she ate something small every 2-3 hours she did not get sick. She would eat a few cheese crackers, some fresh fruit, pudding or jello cups.  I am not taking chemo but I hope that this suggestion helps you when you do start chemo.

Well thankyou for the advice regarding the chemo...no doubt I will be starting mid November...and I will bear in mind what your mum did to help....Anything like tablets affect me sickness wise.... so I am not too looking forward to that....When I was expecting my sons I had severe sickness all the way through the 9 months...I know chemo is FAR worse...but I will look to being sick for a few days every session as a positive....

Hi Sue! I was wondering , are you getting a sick stomach all day or just when you take your tab? If its just when you first take it , maybe eating something first would help. If its an all day thing , that should ease up as you get the drug in your system. If it gets real bad , call your doc , I'm sure he would switch you to something else.

When I did my chemo , I craved potatoes! French fries , baked , Idaho , or sweet! Weird(ah-hum) , but it always settled my stomach down.

I hope your boys had fun bowling! Bowling is fun , but my arm is double jointed , so my balls aways end up in the gutter! So people love to bowl with me , cause they always win!!lol Take care sista , xx Melody

You all look so good.  How those boys must enjoy spoiling their mum.  That will be you in a few years time, Sue, as Shirlann keeps telling you.

My friend has two whippets, and they are the fifth and sixth whippets in the family.  Alfie is my favourite and he has such a sweet nature.  Two years ago a whippet won our top dog show, Crufts.

Sue, hope you are feeling better, and for now your kittencat will have to be your only furbaby if he is stressed out by dogs.

Thank you for posting the pictures, Shirlann.  Your puppy is so cute--and FAST too, judging from the pictures.  The family photo is SO nice!  You all look great.  Every family picture we take, someone is making a funny face.  We have ONE that I can think of where we all look decent.  What do you mean you look awful now?  I find that hard to believe!  Speaking of looking awful, my hair started to fall out today!  I knew it would happen, but not this soon!!

Sue, I hope you're resting soundly.  I was lucky--I tolerated my antidepressant really well from the start.  If it doesn't pass in a week or so, you might want to ask your doc to put you on a different one.

Oh Valerie, I know, I keep track of Crufts, we were all so happy.  Our Whippet club went nuts.  They aren't real popular here, but if you get one the story is, there are like potato chips, you can't have just one!

I think our dear Sue is sleeping, so we will let her get in a good night.  She is such a dear thing, I wish we all were closer.

The pix of me, Walt and our boys is OLD, like 15, or 16 years old.  I look waaay older and the boys have grey hair.  YIKES!

But Dusty's pix are new.

I think Sue likes the pix, she seems to enjoy seeing us.  Even if we don't look the same anymore.

Hey Sue, when you wake up, here is the pix of my Whippet and me, Walt and our 3 sons, about 16 years ago.  I don't look like that now.  Life has taken the spunk out of me.

Yay I did it! This is my youngest about 3 years ago and Mia as a puppy.

I had the results of my second biopsy today and it still only shows DCIS which is great!

She said that I have a greatly increased chance of re-occurence on the other side so I have opted for a bi-lateral mastectomy with a lat dorsi flap recon on both sides.

She just said that as I have an inherited gene I would be a high risk. She also said that I would have a better result with the recon if they did both sides.

i just think I would be paranoid about every lump and bump if I didn't. It'll be nice to have the reassurance that I don't have to have all the worry.

Yes  ..you're definitely doing the right thing....You will feel very relieved...and not have to put up with paranoia and stressful worry (I wish I had my other one done now )....

 I didnt have the genetic test....I am sure mine is genetic...my gran had it at 40 ...this was 40 years ago and then in her 60's...she didnt have chemo just radiation and mastectomy....she died at 82...so just goes to show....miracles... I hope and pray for us all... I am convincing myself mine is hereditary and wont like to travel as my grans' didn't...

You are doing really well ...really well.... and its always good to hear from you...

I wish I was a cat at times ...lol.....I will miss baby zips tomorrow...OH MY...back to the rat race..

Poppy did you find your lump by accident...you did really well getting it sorted etc....its such a shock and a whirlwind xx I am just glad I went to docs....I nearly didnt....I put it off for 3 or 4 weeks xx

Your kitties are adorable, Sue.  I wish my husband liked cats.  I'd get one in a second.  Well, I guess I'd have to wait until my doggies were gone.  They don't do well with kitties either.  They scare the tar out of the neighbor's cat.  She won't come anywhere near out fence anymore. 

Don't feel bad Sue, I waited a couple of weeks after finding my lump too.  I was certain that it had to be a hormonal thing and that it would go away after my period.  No such luck.  When it didn't go away, I pretty much knew it was cancer.  I had this overwhelming feeling that I couldn't explain.  Everyone was trying to reassure me that it was nothing, but I knew better.

I'll try to post pictures of my puppies later today or tomorrow.  I hope I can follow Fumi's instructions as well as you and Poppy have.

Poppy, I did not have the genetic testing done but my mom was dx 6 yrs ago at age 62 and her sister was dx with ovarian cancer at age 38. I went through the roller coaster ride for the past 2.5 yrs because of abnormal mammos resulting in 2 biopsies and lumpectomies for ADH (pre-cancer) and when I was dx with DCIS in the right this past April, I told the doctor that I wanted them both off for peace of mind and to get off the roller coaster of emotions. I did the recon with expanders and am having my exchange surgery Friday. If you have any questions about the bilateral surgery just pm me and I will answer any that I can.

I am having the lattimus dorsi flap with a implant on both sides. I didnt think I could deal with looking at a flat chest for a while.



I know they look great I saw some pictures and it looked like the woman had a proper boob job!

I came out of surgery with the expanders and 200 cc of saline. I was never 'flat chested' but had small 'bumps'. Every week to two weeks I went to the PS office and he 'pumped me up' to 600 cc. I was expanded from June 1 til Aug 16. He let me alone for 2.5 months to allow the skin and muscles stretch good prior to the exchange. I am not a good candidate for any of the tissue transfer because of my body type and shape.

Oh Sweet Sue, your furbabies are ADORABLE!  I want to get a cat, I need to find out if they do well with Whippets.  I just want another fur baby.

I read that you can get fake vinyl claws put on cats so they won't scratch your furniture?  But what if they get out and can't climb a tree?

No, Sue, just because you have close family with breast cancer does not mean you definitely have the BRCA gene.  Marci Beth, one of our posters from years ago, did not have the gene and her sister did.  Go figure.

So while you need to get checked, the family part  does not mean you have the gene.  Marci Beth had NOT ONE family member with breast cancer and she was diagnosed then her sister within about 6 months.  I think she was about 39.  That was 5 years ago.  She is just fine.

So don't start assuming stuff.  Especially stuff that is going to scare you.  You are going to be fine, just fine.  You have too much in your favor.  All the "good" things that really matter, you have, no nodes, clean scans, etc.  So you stop worrying.  Oh, be sure and get your flu shot.  Also, start taking Vitamin C, you don't need a cold now.  I get the chewables, put them in my pocket and munch two or three a day.  Really helps.  Especially when you are with the public so much.

Hope you are toasty up in your room, curled up with a down comforter.  Dreaming of good things.

Yes I was looking at my fish tank and leaning on the sofa. I felt something pushing on my chest, when I felt it I could feel a lump. I wasn't going to go to the hospital either but my partner told me to go because I would be a pain in the bum worrying if not.

If you are high risk of re-occurrence and you think it would help you relax them I'm sure you can ask for the other breast to be taken away.

I am not saying its a good or a bad idea but I am a worrier and I know I would never relax if I didn't.

Horses for courses I think they say!



You are going to be fine and I don't think you should be at work yet either!

Oh what a beautiful pix!  Thank you Melody, this is such a treat, we will just have to all make it across the pond when dear Sue gets over all her treatments and gets well, we can meet at a pub (Sue can choose) and lift a pint togther!  (I would love another excuse to go to London, my favorite city).  Last time we rode the London Eye, a HUGE and I mean HUGE ferris wheel.  sighhh, I love that town.

Now, Sue, don't forget your flu shot, you don't want that this year.
