Karen, without a sense of humor I would never get through life.
Someone asked about hobbies and I'm not sleepy yet at midnight, so I'm going to bore you with mine. (I did sleep from 3am to 3pm, so things are better)
Reading. I'm a lifelong book addict. The past couple of years I've been "reading" mostly audiobooks. Print books are a challenge for a number of reasons. Any other "bookies" here? What are you reading? Favorites?
Photo editing, both plain and for fun like these:
Knitting I already mentioned. Don't have photos handy. Related somewhat is sewing. Made all my kids clothes. The two girls are showing off new school clothes. It was ahem.....few....years ago.
Quilting sorta...made this one from the photo on the right. We took my mother to SE Utah one last time as she was developing Alzheimers. Her mother was born and raised there and it was a favorite place for mom. This was taken at Coral Sands National Park. That day was a precious memory and I wanted to honor it somehow. My son designed the quilt for me.
Art Birdwatching/photography
Furbabies Northern Exposure
All my hobbies take turns at being intense or on the shelf for a while.
Enough! Truthfully, my main hobby these days is whinging. It occupies loads of my time and I'm becoming an expert!!!
Love,
Judie

Judie, I love your stuff! The photo editing is unique. Have you ever sent a portfolio of your work around?
I tried my hand at quilting several years ago. My unfinished quilt is still folded up at the bottom of my bed. The piecing is done; it's just the quilting part that's unfinished and unless I get an uge, it will probably stay that way for a while. Too bad my surgery will be in the hot weather.
I sewed from the time I played with dolls. My mother was a sewer, and she used to give me scraps of her cloth that I would sew right onto my dolls as dresses...very ugly dresses, LOL. But when I started using patterns, they got better looking. I don't think I ever bought a formal gown until I was in some wedding parties. I tried making everything except my raincoat, underwear, and shoes.
I also knitted and crocheted. When I was in college Love Story with Ali McGraw came out, and everyone wanted one of those crocheted cloche hats she wore...so I made them for all my friends.
These days, I only take up my needles to do a special project maybe every couple of years.
Morning everyone. I'm the earlybird I see. Off to work. Talk to you later!
-
My goodness - Judie - you are SO talented! Multitalented! Wow! I love everything...You must also be quite well organised! I have a room full of canvasses and I just can't seem to get in there and paint... same with reading - I love to read and I love to write. At the moment I'm reading Kabul Beautiy School by Deborah Rodriguez but it's taking a while as I have so many other things to do. The book I read before that was The Lost Dog by Michelle de Kretser.
Nancy - I think those cloche Love Story hats would probably be fashionable again now! Ali McGraw was so beautiful in that film...
Karen - that would be great to take all the favourite bits of houses and make them into your perfect house - how exciting! (And stressful!) I hope you have the house of your dreams asap.
Tonight my class had an excursion to a juvenile justice centre (jail). It was interesting, confronting.
Must hit the sack as I'm suddenly sooo tired.
Hugs,
Jane

Judie,
That photo editing is amazing! What program do you use for that?
I'm a book addict, too. My shelves are overflowing with books I intend to read. Someday. After I read the others that I buy on the spur of the moment. We have a great used bookstore here--I have tons of trade credit, so it's like free books. And they have audio books, too. I like those for long car trips!
Last night we decided not to hike today becoase it was supposed to be rainy or snowy at the higher elevations. Hmph. We woke to sunshine. So, my neighbor and I are going to take a long walk in our mountain neighborhood. Then, I think I hear Costco calling my name!
Have a great day, dear ones!

I have not gotten into photo editing, I do good just to take a picture or two. Books, that is another thing, I enjoy reading historical novels. There is one author I enjoy reading, Inglis Fletcher. She wrote about North Carolina during the time when we were ruled by Brittain and the revolution. Some of her books are out of print but I have a signed hard bound copy I got at a yard sale about 30 yrs ago for a couple of dollars. The book was published in the 50's and I still have the paper jacket on the book. What would antiques Road show say about that.
I also enjoy reading the authors Bodie and Brock Thoene. They also write historical novels. The main sets I like from them are about post WWI in the US (Shiloh Chronicles), another set about pre WWII in Europe/Holy Land surrounding the treatment of the Jews (Zion covenent), another set about the creation of the country of Isarel (Zion Legacy). You can tell I am a history buff. These books are based in fact with a little creative plot lines that run through out all 3 sets. I have collected the complete set of the Shiloh Chronicles (3 books) and most of the Zion covenent, but borrowed the other books from the Library. In all honesty, When I found these books at the library, I looked to see which was written first (zion Legacy), second (Zion Covenent) and last Shiloh Chronicles. so the first time I read them, I read them backwards.

Nancy, the photos are fun, but not totally unique. I learned the technique from a tutorial, and it's easy but time-consuming. No, I haven't tried to market them...they're just for my own entertainment.
Another pin-the-fabric-on-the-doll childhood! I didn't much like playing with dolls, but loved cutting out clothes from scraps and sewing them right on the doll. It sounds like your talent developed into quite an art! Any examples to share?
Jane, what kind of painting do you do? No, I'm not organized. As I said, I focus on one thing at a time so while there are lots of interests, they are not all at once. I have an unfinished canvas...an acrylic from a snapshot of my son as a toddler...that was coming along well until I goofed up and couldn't quite get it right, so put it away for later...ten years ago! I'll check out the books. Thanks!
Anne, I am using Photoshop CS2. What are some of your favorite reads from your overflowing bookshelf? I love having a home cluttered with books, but I've had to enter a life of sparseness for a while. What books I have are still in boxes. A room just doesn't seem right without a bookcase!
Sheila, thanks for the tips. I'll look up those authors. I love historical fiction, too. Ordinary Heroes by Scott Turow was an excellent book set in WWII Germany. It gave me a better understanding of that time and place. I read The Kite Runner, then the next one by the same author, A Thousand Splendid Suns. If you want to understand Afghanistan, you can't do better. He's a great writer.
Judie

Suebee...I have been wondering how you are doing since your surgery? Update us. Hope you are doing well.
-
Judie, the books by the Thoenes also opened my eyes up to what happened in post WW1, post WW2, and the founding of Israel. They also have a series set in Jerusalem pre Jesus called the AD chronicles. I have not gotten any of those books. You can find many of their books in the Christian bookstores because they all have a faith based theme running through them. Brock also has written some western series but I have not read any of them. Their son Jake also is writing books set in modern time with a bit of intrigue.

I read an eclectic mix. "Eat, Pray, Love" was a recent fun read. Ivan Doig's recent, "the Whistling Season" was a beautiful book. Anything by Kent Haruf or Ann Patchet. I love Southern authors like reynolds Price and Lee Smith. ANd Faulkner, when I have the time and patience. I've been on a binge for novels and memoirs about the Middle East--Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan. And that's just the tip of the iceberg for me.
Sheila, I remember the Inglis Fletcher books from long ago. Have you read any Sharon McCrumb books? They're all based in western NC/eastern TN.
Took a 4 mile walk in the neighborhood today. Up to the top of the hill, down into the canyon.Rain/sleet/snow mix most of the way. Lots of wild flowers popping through. We live in the mountains, on dirt roads, everyone up here has acreage. It's wonderful.

Ann, where you live sounds so beautiful! I will never forget the beauty of Colorado.
Back to books - I read The Sound and the Fury (Faulkner) once and found it fascinating - so cleverly written. I read a range of books - a mixture of fiction & non-fiction. The Color of Water (James McBride), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time (Mark Haddon), Fresh Milk: The Secret Life of Breasts (Fiona Giles), The Cloudspotter's Guide (Gavin Pretor-Pinney), Ridiculous Expectations (Merridy Eastman) and many more.
Suebee, Suebee - where are you? How are you?
Lisa - thinking of you at your doc's appointment. It will be good to have the all-clear again.
Judie - I love using both oils and watercolours. I'm not very good but I think I have potential! I would love to join a painters' group when I move to the mountains. It is a very arty area - many artists and writers live there so I'm hoping for lots of inspiration. Last night when I was in the detention centre there was an artist there who comes in on a regular basis to paint with the boys and encourage them to express themselves with art. I noticed that one of the cells had some beautiful sketches on the walls.
Must rush.
Love to all!

Jane, honey, ask your doc for some Ambien or something. This waking up between 2 or 4 and then having the worry squirrels running around the room is a sure sign of "I need a little help"! HELP!
So ask and then set the dang pill by the bed with a glass of water and when you wake up, take it. Well, that works with Valium, with Ambien, I think you take it at bed time, you don't want to sleep til noon.
Melody, I just went in with my hubby who was having chest pains ( he is a veteran of 4 angioplasties and I don't know how many angiograms) and it was like Bangladesh in there. I went home. He was okay, but he has "unstable Angina" and that means we never know for sure. So if something feels different, he has no choice but to be checked out.
Dear Ulla, I think trying to break up the dose is a great plan to try. Keep pestering them, there has to be some way. I think there is even another drug? That does the same thing as Tamoxifen, and you might tolerate the newer one better. I am drawing a blank but one of the other gals might know it's name. Arimidex? I am not sure. But it came out later and might work better for you.
I think our Sue has taken to the mattresses. She has these bad days about now. God bless her!
Judie! WOW!! What great pix! I can edit and make a disc, but nothing as wonderful as you are doing. Those pix are really something.
My last favorite books: "Marley and Me", "A Rip In Heaven", and "Into Thin Air", also I have read about 7 books by former polygamist women, they were all good. Kinda sorry for them, it is hard when your beliefs demand so much misery.
Oh Anne, how glorius. I just love to sing, I have a 3 note range, if that. Grrrrr
Love you all of you, Shirlann
-
Judie, those photos are amazing! Nancy and Sheila, I too sewed clothes onto my Barbies, and also made furniture for them. My mother let me have a little old cardboard chest of drawers (covered with some plasticized "quilted" "fabric") -- I made the drawers into "rooms" for the Barbies.
I don't really sew these days -- but when my son was little, I made his costumes on most Halloweens.
One big activity for me is singing in a large chorus -- we just sang the Verdi Requiem at Carnegie Hall two weeks ago. We sing at Carnegie every December and May, and at a big church in Manhattan every February or March. But for me the rehearsals are wonderful -- 3 hours every Monday night, singing with more than 100 other people, long beautiful pieces -- I love it!
Today, I'm resting -- got a new nipple (fipple?) just this morning -- guess it'll be unveiled to me in a week. Thought maybe it was a little frivolous to do this, but I felt really happy after the procedure, like I'm "done"!
Love to all!
Ann

Judie...you are so very talented!! Wow!! I love to draw. I don't hardly ever do it, but it is a big enjoyment of mine. Painting..I have done all 3 watercolor, oil and acrylic. I am not as found of painting as I am drawing. Art has always been a pleasure of mine.
Sewing...not for me! haha. I am lucky a button gets sewed back on!
Ulla..how are you doing? I agree with Shirlann, I know there are other drugs that you can try if the tamox does not work for you. Talk to your doc.
My appt went well today. I just saw the breast surgeon..she checked me out and said...all was good. She was very impressed with my reconstruction. She lauged though at the fact that I lost my belly button. He made me a new one, but you can hardly see it. She said..well..you can call yourself an alian now..haha.
Sue..I hope you are feeling ok dear. I know you are tired. Take care sweetie...the emerald city is waiting with open arms for you!!
Suebee..check in with us dear. I hope you are doing ok.
Ann, so you got your nipple today. I am going to get mine in July. I decided to wait until after my vacation. How did all that go? It sounds like it's pretty simple.
Karen, how are you feeling today dear? Still tired and achy? I have been that way too. I just figured it was flying 3 times in a week and all the late night partying..haha.
Mel..how is your o/h? I hope he is doing alright. That had to be so frightening for you. I still have us penciled in for our lunch on Sunday...June 8th!! Looking forward to it! Have you started your letter to Oprah? I have told all of my girls about your idea..and they all agreed it was a great idea. Danni's internship was right down the street from her studio in Chicago.
I am posting 2 pics (the only 2, since we didn't take any ourselves..haha) from my visit in Chicago. These were taken by the comedians for the comedy show we went to for part of my Mother's day gift. They took pics of the audience afterwards and posted them on a website.
the caption under the pic was...She brought her mom to our show for Mother's Day!
This was with her friend Lindsey. They are really good friends.
We had a blast. It felt so good to laugh so hard!!
Talk to you ladies later. Taking care of Alise.

HELLO ALL! Wiping tears, This has been the worst ever! Had surgery Mon. ps said everything went well, but in extreme pain. Took a shower in hopes to feel better, didn't work. Looked in mirror and realized it's all red and swollen, hoping it's not infected taking meds. antibiotic and percs.. Have to go to the bs tomorrow at 1030 and we'll see what she says? Hope it's not a set back, was doing well until now.
Have been sleeping alot so I don't have to feel the pain. Hope the pain goes away soon, was supposed to go back to work next week? Don't know if I can now?
Haven't read all the comments and will soon, but I'm still alive and hope you are all well!
Talk to you soon
Hugs and kisses all!
suebee -
Lisa you are all soo beautiful!!!! great pics!
-
Lisa, you and Danni (and Lindsey) look so beautiful and happy! Looks like you had a wonderful time!
Hope Alise feels better soon!
(I had all 4 wisdom teeth out in one day when I was 19 -- and it was a far bigger deal than the nipple procedure I had today... which, so far, is next-to-nothing.)
Ulla, you must be having a happy reunion with your DH! I thought it was so loving and protective, that he wanted you to wait until he returned before you had injection -- if it is up to your DH and your Gyn, you will be well-cared for! I hope your Gyn can help you find workable meds, and maybe educate your onc!
Sue, hope you both are well,
Suebee, I'm so sorry you are having such pain -- hope you can just keep taking the meds and resting, and will soon feel better.
And best to all,
Love,
Ann

Suebee...I am sorry you are having such a rough time. I will pray for quick healing and no more pain! Take care and rest as much as possible. Thanks for the compliment. We really had a great time! I have not stayed out till 2:30am in a very very long time!!
Ann, I had my wisdom (all 4) removed when I was 19 as well. It was no picnic! She only had the bottom two taken out today. They just used novicane. She is really doing well. Her friends just stopped by to take her out for a bit.
I have had quite a time with Olivia lately. Very surprising, and she would kill me if she knew I was mentioning it to any of you ladies. She knows how sweet and kind you all are, and I know she wouldn't want to disappoint you.
While I was gone, she had people over on Friday night and they did some drinking. I found out everything, but the worst part was that she lied about it! I know, I know...we all have done the same type of thing when we were 17, but as a mother, I have to discipline..and there has to be consequences for actions. I grounded her, and the next day she told me a story about where she was (she wasn't where she said) so now is she not only grounded, but I shut her phone off! GRRRRRRRRRRR....it upsets me about the lying, I am just so disappointed!! Ok..enough..had to get it off my chest I guess.
Hope everyone is having a pleasant evening.

pssst....where is everyone tonight? It's quiet in here!

Lisa, I had to do the same thing to my daughter a couple of years ago...it was worse because she was only a month away from her 15th birthday. Most of the stuff happened over at a friend's house while the parents were there! They were upstairs in their master bedroom suite and the kids were a couple of levels down in the basement family room drinking and smoking pot.
I caught my daughter sneaking out at 1 AM (after she had come home for the night)...silly girl, she used the side door which is right under my bedroom window, and I'm a light sleeper. I heard her run to the street where there was a car waiting for her. I called her cell phone and lit into her like a crazy woman, screaming for her to GET HOME NOW.
She was back within 15 minutes. And within that time I logged into the computer and found all sorts of stuff (glad I had the foresight to check the "Save Logs" box in the Preferences for her chats). She was grounded for a month, no phone, no friends over to visit. And she was told she would never be able to spend the night at that friend's house ever again.
She's been pretty good since then...misses midnight curfew a bit sometimes, but otherwise no problems. Now that I have the car and her license to hold over her, I expect to NEVER have a problem again, heh, heh.
-
I have to laugh about the goings on of teenagers. My oldest son will be 26 in a couple of days. I will never forget when he was 17, we left him and his younger brother home for a week. That kid had the best time of his life. His party was so wild, that my neighbor friend, who is about 5' came down and made my 6'3" son send everyone home and close down the party. Well, the rest of the neighbors reported him as well. But, the best of all, he made his little brother mad and he spilled all the beans!!! I laugh about it now....
-
Yikes! I'm scared now. If a good girl like Olivia is giving you a hard time, Lisa, then I'm really in for it with Portia. All of her friends (for the most part) drink, do drugs, and have sex. I'm pretty positive that she hasn't done any of that, but I know the pressure it there. It's scary. I've caught her in some small lies in recent months, but she's a horrible liar and always comes clean after a while.
The pictures are great, Lisa! You all look gorgeous. I'm so glad you had a good time.
I hope Alise is feeling better. I had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth removed when I was 18. I remember I was soooo loopey from the laughing gas they gave me. It totally knocked me out and I felt like I was drunk with really bad bed spins! LOL!!!!
Hugs,
Karen
-
Suebee, I'm so sorry you're in such pain. Just take it easy and get lots of rest. I'll say extra prayers that you'll feel better soon and that this won't be a setback for you.
Love and hugs,
Karen
-
I hope I'll end up laughing about the problems I'm having with my daughter one day, Sherry. How funny that your tiny little neighbor closed down the party!

hi sisters ,,at last DH is home safe and sound ..he bought me a golden braclet (indian work from baghdad)
yday was really wonderfull.these r all the good news
the bad news r that the nurse in my onk office called and said he dont believe or agree that i can have lesser dose or split the pill or even take it every other day,,he said am at high risk and i must retry it all with full dose again and that i might have lesss SEs after i had my periods came now,,he said that the realy sever reaction was due to bad timing as i was going to have my 2nd period after the rads withen 2-3 days wen i started the tamox pill in that time my body was floating with estrogen which caused all this sever reaction,,he said that the SEs will be easier day by day but that I MUST RESTART IT AGAIN,,i told her that i did and i was taking it since tuesday and that i was taking it with omprazol to ease the pain in my stomach and with panicod to be able to sleep better (it realy calms me down its just a combination of paracetamol and codaiene)
she said that she will ask him for me if this is ok and she will call me back next week..
i feel lil bit better as DH is here now ,,and i will start the zoladex inj today,,i asked if i can have these inj every 3 months instead of having them monthley..she will ask him too
about the Arimidex,,its not for me and i cant use it ,,its just work with post meanpausal women ,,the only thing that works with me is tamoxifin according to my agae and situation and thats why they combine it with zoladex inj,,they r bringing me to menapause chemically..
well enough sady things ,,
i was shopping like a crazy in the last few days ,,i feel better about my body and weight so i just cant stop buying everything like there is no tomorrow..

Shirlann - I loved Marley and Me! I laughed and cried over it. Am seeing my doc in a couple of weeks so I will ask her about Ativan or its equivalent. So sorry to hear about your dh's angina - it is so stressful for you both. I will say prayers for him.
Praying also for dear, sweet Mel and her dh - I'm thinking about you and you both. How is he doing? And how are you? It must be so worrying for you. Hugs to you both.
AnnNYC - it must be a wonderful feeling to sing in a choir - your spirits must soar with that beautiful music and being a part of it. I only sing when nobody is listening! Lol! That's great that you got your nipple. I think I would want nipples if I had a recon.
Lisa - so glad your recon was such a success and I love the pics of you and Danni and Lindsey. You all look beautiful. You are glowing - you look so healthy, happy and pretty. I am afraid I had similar problems with my youngest son. He was a rather challenging teenager! I felt a failure as a mother... Now he is dealing with rebellious teens in London - trying to teach them and no doubt being reminded of his younger days!
Suebee, you poor darling - I am so sorry you are in so much pain. Praying you will feel better soon.
Karen - hang on tight - the teen years will pass but they will no doubt give you anxious moments! Olivia is sure to come out the other side ok - she has your good genes and she knows she is loved. Hang in there!
Love to you Ulla. I'm so glad your dh is back to wrap you up in his love. I'm so sorry you have all this worry about the tamoxifen.
Hi to dearest Sue - you amazing woman! I don't know how you do what you do. Hope you can get some rest sometime soon. Big hugs.
Love to everyone,
Jane xxx
