Karen - that is just great! I think that is a really big and important step. I bet you looked gorgeous too! People probably just thought you were a super-confident woman with an edgy hairdo. Love you too!

Thanks, Jane.  I actually saw a young girl in the ice cream parlor today with a very short haircut.  It looked so cute on her.  That's what prompted me to go hatless this afternoon.  I just wish I could get it to spike, but it's getting too curly for that.  Oh well....

    Have a wonderful weekend, sweetie!!

Lisa, Portia is baking your cake as I type this.  The batter tastes yummy!  Can't wait to sample the finished product.  She says I can't cut into it until Sunday though.  That's going to be a tough one!

Hope you're having a great time with Danni!  Enjoy!!!!

Brave Karen...I bet you looked smashing! I can't wait for the little buggers to start coming back in. I expect some regrowth in the two months while I go through surgery, but will lose it again to the adjuvant chemo afterwards.

By temporary hair color, do you mean something like Loving Care that washes away? Is there any other brand around? Are there any "natural" or organic temporary ones?  I will definitely need something if I want to look like the old me. OTOH, if I want to look new I will have to bleach some of it it white and gel it up.

My hair was in the middle, as far as curl; wavy in the wrong places lilke my bangs, and straight in the places you wanted it to curl, like the ends of the long parts. For some reason it would go wavy, wavy, wavy, dead straight at the end. My daughter has beautiful hair...naturally curly, looks like she had a magic wand wrapped around every lock in big spiral curls. But she can easily straighten it with a blow dryer and flat iron, if she wants to. And her color is to die for...can't dye for it :-). There's nothing in the commercial box dyes that comes close to it. It's deep red, but still bright enough to definitely be classified as a redhead. People stop all the time and comment on it. At one point she was so tired of that happening that she wanted to dye it mousy brown.

Mothering Tip of the Day: Here's how I get her to do the vacuuming...let her use my iPod.

Hey, ladies, I'm going to crash the party! I just started browsing this thread, and I love it! I feel like I know you all so well!

This is my 51st birthday (I usually don't announce such things) but I have a feeling I'll be in a loopy haze because I'm starting Lyrica for nerve pain that developed during my implant exchange two weeks ago. Looks like a retractor spent too much time around one of my nerves, and injured it. Let's hope it heals quickly...

We're going to visit friends in Denver for the weekend, after spin class this morning (my husband is the instructor, and I put together the music and routine!)

How do I insert a picture here? I tried the icon thing, but it didn't work. Any tips from the pros?

    Love you all,

    Anne

Okay, I did my research. Once I get hooked up with photobucket, I'll post a picture of me with my granddaughters!

Oh yes, Anne, we have a whole colony of people who truly love each other and I swear, would do anything for each other, you are so very welcome to join us.

I always get sorta maudlin around Mother's Day. How silly. TimTam PM'd me with a wise and wonderful suggestion to resolve this issue with my DIL. I am going to take her kind, thoughtful advice.

Today, Saturday, is Mother's Day in Mexico. I have many Mexican friends and I always envy them on holidays. The entire Latino culture is so, so family oriented, much like Ulla's family. Very close. In America, not so much. Not sure why.

Lisa, love, isn't that annoying? I have lost so many posts. It is heart-breaking. Glad you stuck to it!

Sue, lovey, working like a beaver or falling asleep over her tea. One or the other. I think I can read in your posts that you kinda see the Emerald Palace. Off in the distance, getting closer each day.

To all you wonderful sisters, Happy Mother's Day to the mom's and love and kisses to all.

    Happy Birthday, AnneW!

Ulla, I'm so glad to hear your mother's feeling better!  For your long phone calls, do you think you could try Skype?  http://www.skype.com/  I've never used it, but I know people who have and say it's a fantastic cheap way to talk to people far away.  Maybe even someone in the family of the charity shop lady has experience with it?  I hope it could work for your phone calls to Baghdad.

Love to all, and best wishes for a great weekend!

    Hi all,

Just wanted to send my love and birthday wishes to AnneW (happy birthday, sweet girlfriend!), and say how much I loved the baby wallaby story. There are so many horrible tales of animal abuse everywhere that it's heart-warming to find there are people who love animals and take care of them.

Here's mine, although it doesn't involve a wild animal. One of my two cats has acquired the habit of spending the evenings on my lap in front of the TV. I have to constantly stroke him and scratch his ears and chin, or he starts to protest and put his head insistently under my hand. The other night I was so tired from chemo that I decided to watch TV in bed. My bossy cat sat on the windowsill in the bedroom and hollered at me until I finally gave up, went into the living room, and sat on the couch in front of the TV. He then curled up on my lap, closed his eyes, and went to sleep. All was again right with the world.

    Hugs to all,

    Avastin Annie

Hi AnneW! Happy birthday and welcome! I visited Colorado 22 years ago and I loved it. We stayed in Fort Collins for a few days. I loved being able to look back at the snow-capped Rockies - so beautiful!

Lisa - looks like you two will be drinking lots of coffee today to stay awake! Hope you have a great time at the zoo. Wow - a free one! I don't think we have those here!

Nancy, isn't it funny how so many of us hate our hair? - Especially when we are young and don't have to worry about the greys! Your daughter's hair is beautiful! I hope you are feeling ok and those s/es are being kept at bay.

Ulla - it's so good to see that you are feeling strong and well again. I really feel for you in making this decision about the tamoxifen. No advice from me - I am not sure what I would do but I am sure you will make the right decision. It's wonderful about the invitation to your friend's farm - I hope you have a great time and meet lots of nice people - and animals!

Shirlann - I agree about the strength of the family in other cultures. The 'West' has generally lost this strength. We all want to be individuals and strike out on our own and be independent. Not that there's really anything wrong with that but we seem to have lost some sort of balance...

Hi AnnNYC! Yes - skipe is fantastic. My kids all use it and keep telling me to download it. I must do that soon.

Mel - I love to think of you driving through the beautiful countryside listening to music! Isn't that a fun thing to do! I love driving, I love music (I hate the price of petrol/gas!) so I always look forward to going somewhere in my car. I hope you have a great time at the graduation.

Hi Annie - I loved hearing about your dear cat. How he must love you! I hope you are feeling better now.

Well, I must go for my morning walk, even though the back verandah looks sunny and warm and it would be nice to sit out there and have a cuppa - have to do that when I get home.

Love to everybody, including Karen, Sue, Sheila, Wren, Dawn, Stephanie, Mia, AE & UB, Judie, Jule, Kaloni, Lucy, Valsul and anybody else I might have missed.

Ulla, you look great!  And on top of that, you look like you're having a good time! Yes, I think you need more social interaction in Sweden. Summer's coming on so it will be easier to get out and meet people, and your Swedish will improve dramatically the more you speak it.

It's been a quiet weekend here. Bossy brother is away at a wedding. My s/e's have all but disappeared from the tx last week. Even my taste is nearly normal. I'm only missing "salty" right now...sweet, sour, bitter, but no salty. Which means my family shouldn't have me cooking dinner (though I am) because I'm liable to oversalt everything. So to counteract that, I'm not salting anything. They'll have to add it on their own food at the table.

After a few days sequestered in my "hidey-hole" (bedroom) feeling awful physically and very depressed mentally, I gritted my teeth and crawled out last evening and took a 3 mile walk. This morning I forced myself out of bed, moving through the pain and despair. My son invited me to come along to the hardware store on an errand, then lunch and the park with Connor. Then I turn on my computer and am greeted by a huge sunshine blast. All is well in the world. Thank you all.

Isnt' this disease a load of crap? Paralyzing fear, bubbling hope, sadness, courage, SEs, determination, loneliness, friendship...there is no predicting the direction tomorrow will take, except that it will be up AND down.Laughing

Enough of disease. Onward and upward. I'm still a bit shaky, so can't say much other than welcome to the new,  bless you to the old, hang in there and admiration to all of us.

Hello all! GEEZE I forgot what it was like staying out late and trying to hang with the young crowd. LOL

My night out was great ran into a few friends all wanting to know what was going on and how i was feeling? It was nice for there concern but had to relive the whole thing over and over! Then be reminded of my 2nd surgery on Monday. YUCK! This stinks! Feeling a little upset so I better go before I bring everyone down.

I hope all the mothers in here have a wonderful mothers day!

Helloooooo everyone!  Hope you all had a lovely day.  It was overcast early in the day and then rainy here.  The good news is that they're predicting temps in the 80's by next weekend.  Yay!!!!!  Judie, maybe that will brighten your spirits a bit.  This crazy weather is enough to depress anyone.  I think I've been fighting off some sort of bug this week too.  I have a bit more energy today, but yesterday and Wednesday were very unproductive days for me.  Hang in there, Judie!  We love you when you're up, down, and in-between!

I know what you mean about not being used to the late nights out anymore, Suebee.  I feel like such an old fart sometimes!  I remember when staying out til 3 am was normal for the weekend.  Now I'm tired all the following day if I'm out past midnight.  It's ugly!  Sorry that it was so difficult to forget about Monday and the surgery.  I know that people are just being nice and showing they care when they ask about your health, but it does get exhausting talking about it all the time, doesn't it?

Nancy, your daughter has gorgeous hair!  How lucky she is that she can wear it curly or easily straighten it.  I have the same issues as you--wavy in spots and straight in others.  I HATE that!!

Ulla, I love the pictures from the BBQ!  You look so pretty and happy in them!  I'm so glad that you're making friends and getting out a bit.

Welcome Anne!  Glad to have you here.  We're a fun bunch--I feel so lucky to have found this thread and all these wonderful ladies!  Everyone is just so special to me.  I'm looking forward to getting to know you as well.  Hope you had a very happy birthday!

Mel, I hope you had a beautiful, relaxing drive, and a great time at the graduation.  Love the pic of Adam and his girlfriend.  They're very cute together--Lilly seems to like her too!

How was the zoo, Lisa?  Wow--a FREE zoo?  That's incredible!  Enjoy the rest of your weekend with Danni and have a safe trip home!

Love and hugs to all--Sue, Jane, Shirlann, AnnNYC, Wren, AE, Lucy, Annie (loved the cat story), Stephanie, Kaloni, Jule, Dawn, and anyone I may have forgotten.

Thanks Karen and AE for your mothers day wishes. Hope most of you are having a happy day.

Judie I'm so sorry you are going through a rough patch. Please don't ever feel that you are bringing anyone down. We have had some very down women here and we cry with them and wish we could be there in person to give them a hug. This is the second best thing - cyberhugs! I hope Karen's sunshine arrives soon for you.

Suebee, you did your best to go out and party but the only thing that's going to make you feel better now is to get this over with. It's hard to escape from your worries when surgery is imminent. My thoughts and prayers are with you as Monday approaches.

Mel, my brain is like a sieve sometimes - I forgot to comment on that lovely photo of your son and his girlfriend and the sweet Lilly! He is kind and so good looking and she is really pretty! Hope you had a great time with them.

OK Jane , I lit a candle , and am praying for your dear mil. Times like this are so scary. Especially cause we don't know whats wrong. I am praying for nothing serious. Hugs to you and your hubby. Please let us know as soon as you can , how she is doing. Love you Jane.xxxx

Judie , So sorry you're feeling down in the dumps. Yes , this disease SUCKS big time. I'm still waiting for the day , when I don't think of bc. I was upset Friday , cause I went to walmart , and I love to get lost in shopping and blend in with all the non-bc people. Makes me feel better and I can lose the bc memory for awhile. Well , not Friday , everywhere I looked pink ribbons!!!!! Even socks I was looking at , pink ribbons on the label! Speaking for myself , I'm glad some of the procedes from selling certain products go to fight bc. BUT , as a "survivor" I just don't want to see that little pink ribbon everytime I turn around! Sorry Judie , didn't mean to go off. Just feeling it today. Anyway , hope you are feeling better. Big , big hugs to you. xxxx

Ulla , love the pics. Thanks for sharing. You look great my dear. And you look like you enjoyed yourself. Is that the lady that took the kitty you had? How was the bar-b-q? Tasty I bet! Hope all is well. xxxx

Well , I think I now have a sinus infection. Lovely. Feel really crappy today. Sinus' are aching.

Hi Suebee , Hope you can try to relax today. I know having another surgery sucks , but soon it will be Tues. and you will be done , and on the road to recovery and Oz with all of us!xxxx

Hi Karen , did Portia and Chase make you breakfast in bed?! Hope you all are having a memorable mommys day.xxxx

Hi Lisa! How was the zoo? Hope you two are having a great time. Hope you took some pics to share!xxxx

Hi SueSmile! How you doin'? I know you are very busy , and resting as much as possible. But I miss youCry! Is Sunday still your day off? I thought I remember you saying it wasn't anymore. Tues. is tx isn't it? Then just ONE more! Hope you are well , hugs to you and the boys.xxxx

Hi Kaloni , Sounds like you are recovering nicely from your surgery. Hope all is well with you. I bet it is getting pretty hot in Fla. now. Boy , with my hotflashes , I would totally combust! Take care.xxxx

AE and UB , hope you two are having a relaxing Sunday. Hows the ses UB? How many more tx for you? We could countdown like we are with Sue! Hugs to you both and to the furbabies.xxxx
