Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey Day! Sadie and I are going to enjoy a leisurely day of puttering around the house today and again tomorrow. The census is low at work so the weekend shifts weren't as bad as usual. Still lots of time on my feet, though. Boy does my back hurt by the end of 13 hours! Wanted to sleep in this ayem, but both mine and Sadie's bladders are trained to wake up at 5:30 now! Oh well.
Cammy Cat--that's a great sounding cornbread recipe! I love cornbread but rarely make it, I can't seem to get it come out anything by dry and crumbly. That Angel's Kiss looks like fun!
Librarian--sorry you got stuck with rain over the weekend. We got some snow, but the sun came out yesterday afternoon. Of course, the temp has plummeted now. Brrr. I hear you about healthier diet. Why is the healthy stuff so much harder and take so much longer to cook?
Jazzy--Hooray for 3 days of freedom! I just had to renew my TSA precheck/trusted traveler number. Seems like all it took was sending Uncle Sam some money! I am jealous of the Happy Yoga class!I need to find a yoga class to go to. I used to love doing that. Yes, Sadie is great to come home to. She's usually got my recliner all warmed up for me, and then there's the happy dance and pets as I let her out to potty, and the happy dance and cold paws when she comes back in!
Chi--It must have been hard leaving all that wine on the table!
Cammy Cat-- a porno cat? I've never seen any porn, can't imagine what they would use a cat for, but maybe I don't want to know? I'm still working on the decluttering cuz I do find that less is better, easier to take care of and manage over time. Not to mention looking better. And I don't want anyone to have to go through renting a huge dumpster to clean out my house when I'm gone like my cousin did! You remind me of my Mom, she's always finding "lost" Christmas gifts. "I can't remember if that was meant for last year or the year before" is a commonly heard statement from Mom at Christmastime!
Jazzy--You'd probably lose the bet on Silly Sadie not turning belly up--she does that for belly rubs all the time! I did make it through the Saturday shift, even with some attitude issues from some of the staff, and Sunday's shift was even better, I was on another unit and had different staff, less attitude.
Cammy Cat--I do remember growing up and nothing was open on Sundays or holidays. If you ran out of milk or bread you either did without or borrowed from aneighbor. The Sunday closing rules are called "Blue Laws" here in Maine. They've been relaxed, but stores over a certain square footage still have to close on major holidays, but can be open Sundays. No alcohol can be sold until noontime on Sundays, though.
Jazzy--I bet you feel a good tired after getting all that done!

NM- glad you are through the weekend shift work. Thirteen hours on the feet is really hard on a person, god bless you sister. I hope you and Miss Sadie can have a relaxing day at home. Do you have a fireplace at your home? I can see you sitting in a chair by a warm fire with Miss Sadie laying nearby soaking up the warmth.
This link might be handy for you to find a yoga class in your area. When I started doing yoga here a few years after I moved to ABQ, there were a handful of studios here, now there are so many of them. Hot yoga is very trendy with the younger folks, but have some traditional teachers here who have been long time yoga teachers who focus on the more basic stuff. Hope you can find a class in your neck of the woods with this.
Anyone watch the Golden Globes last night? I was really glad to see two of my fav HBO mini series win, both some actors and the series too; Chernobyl and Succession. Loved Cate Blanchett's dress the best, total vintage hollywood glam. I bet Cami watched, she loves the red carpet......
-
I lived through the bone scan. Except for having to find a parking space twice at the hospital, it was a simple test. Did not last as long as I thought it would, but I think I fell asleep! Again I was told I am excellent at holding still for long periods. Next is the CT scan on Thursday. Will not know the results until Friday morning before the chemo infusion. Just another day in the life!
I loved most of the dresses at the Golden Globes. I am always curious about how women sit down or use the bathroom. Some of the dresses are huge or very revealing. Amazing there are not more wardrobe malfunctions!
Cami - I remember nothing being open. We had Blue Laws around here stating you could not buy pantyhose on Sundays. Never could quite understand that. What if you needed them for church?
Chi - do you know anything about Framus guitars? My DH husband bought one and a 1969 Gallagher six string. We are not sure of the date on the electric Framus. He also bought a dobro, but it has been painted. Pretty sure we can get the paint off to expose the metal underneath. We hope to sell them at the guitar show in Jacksonville in February.
-
Framus started out making violins, and made guitars in the part of Germany that became the Czech Republic, from 1946 till they went bankrupt in 1976. They were midpriced but good quality (Paul McCartney, John Lennon and the Stones' Bill Wyman-all played them--in the '50s, it was McCartney's first "good" guitar. Lennon's was an acoustic, Wyman's a bass--and he endorsed them at the start of his career). The brand was revived in 1995, and now the instruments are made in Shanghai.
Cami, whenever any of our cats presented their tummies, we used to joke it was "kitty porn" (which unlike its soundalike will not get you arrested).
My diet is actually pretty easy to follow in any restaurants other than fast-food or hippie vegan (which is carby to the max unless all you eat are veggies and berries). Even at Mickey D's, if I was playing in a small town in the middle of nowhere and the gig was over at 11pm, I could waltz in or drive-through and get a bunless cheeseburger and a simple salad (albeit usually iceberg). Even my "cheat meals" are minor cheats, not throw-caution-to-the-winds. The other night, we had some leftover caviars (whitefish & salmon roe)--and Bob had his on crackers, I had mine on cucumber slices, with creme fraiche and chopped chives. Mine was tastier. Brunch is the easiest--bacon, eggs, lox, salad--anything but breads, potatoes and pancakes. We went out to a French seafood restaurant the other night where we had the tasting menu, and except for a tiny scoop of sorbet, two mini-ravioli and dessert, none of the courses had any starch. Even on our London vacation, the only real dietary challenge was airplane meals. (For some stupid reason, low-carb is the only special diet meal the airlines don't offer. Diabetic is too carby. They used to offer seafood meals--usually a shrimp salad--but they stopped because it was too expensive).
Ashamed to admit I didn't watch most of the Globes last night--was plowing through stuff I'd DVRed so I could free up drive space, plus some online shopping.
DOTD last night & tonight was more of that Mumm Napa DVX. Also made cappuccinos with unsweetened Almond Breeze Original Vanilla (from the refrigerated section, not the shelf-stable stuff). It froths up perfectly and needs no sweetening.
Spent lots of time tonight plowing through my closet & clothes racks, being relentless about winnowing out the size 1Xs and Chico's size 3s. (Keeping the XLs that are >10 years old so long as they still look good on me, because sizes were less generous back then). One of the things I ordered online yesterday was a bunch of plastic storage boxes and blouse hangers from Container Store--to my chagrin, clothing that had sat on regular hangers for more than a few months had developed those stupid shoulder bumps that look like "pussy-hat" ears. Blouse hangers have slope-shoulders (like yours truly) to avoid that, plus notches to hold tank tops and spaghetti straps so the garment stays on the hanger. I also ordered size M, L and Chico's size 2 versions of stuff I like that now swims on me. Then I color-coordinated everything. (Yeah, sorta OCD, but it'll make choosing outfits easier).

Mornin ladies,
Jazzy I didn't watch the big show, I forgot it was on. But yesterday I saw some articles so I read them---the things I did see was quite interesting actually. I like the fashion the best some so pretty and some so dumb. I amazes me that they have people dressing them and they come out looking silly. I don't really see any movies so I have no idea who I like and for some reason I never heard of the TV shows. I really don't like watching the whole show anyway, it's gotten to political for me. Whether I agree or not I just don't see a place for it. I guess this year the host didn't like them either. I did find J=Lo's dress amusing, very seasonal. And I'm sure More glue was used than on any normal day to hold up dresses.
JC praying all results will be great for you. Wow staying still isn't easy either. It bodes well as a patient but not so much a wife.
Kim I know how good it feels to have out furbabies meet us at the door. It's such a kind way of coming home. 13 hours is a long time for any day at work, knowing you u did it like a champ. U always do. Great DOTD yesterday.
Sandy u make the diet sound easy, I'm glad u feel that way...I think that's the key if that's how u feel about any diet. Oh and I told u gals about hangers before Joy Manganos has the best. Nothing ever slips off, they actually give u more closet space and never have any ears on clothes. Oh nobody listens to me.But u did accomplish a lot so kudos for you and a great feeling completely changing sizes, the best way.
Everyone have a good day today and slow down.

Just going to jump in here, with just a few commments...
Cami, the presents you found, what will you do with them? Hold on to them, or give them to the person they were intended?
JCS, no panyhose on Sunday...WTF??? That's cray cray. Praying for good results for you on Friday. I too am pretty good at laying still, but have never had anyone tell me that.
Well, as usual, had a great time. Weather was icky, cold, in the 20's, foggy the entire time, but we made the most of it. Checked on things in the toy hauler, as we have it stored there, all ok on that front. Night before leaving DH got sick during the night, throwing up and the big "D". This morning I woke up with the sniffles. Was not around anyone sick, heck, wasn't even out in public. All meals were at our friends house, our outings were mainly driving around being shown different things, so not around people at all. The only thing I can think of is perhaps I picked up something in the hotel room? From all the snow melting, our road was a muddy muddy mess getting in. Almost got stuck in a few places, but we made it.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! Sadie and I had a lovely sleep in this ayem, now we're listening to the scanner chatter about a 40 to 60 car pile up on the interstate near where we live. It sounds like the same place as the pile up I was in a few years back. Life Flight has been called out, and both directions of the interstate are closed down while they divert drivable cars to the other side to get them off the interstate, and responding emergency workers are taking the opposite side, too. Sounds like a total mess. The State Police are using drones to take pictures and look for people with injuries. Distant fire departments are moving some of their trucks and ambulances in to the local stations to cover until the accident gets cleared up. The sun is out this ayem, it's not snowing, not sure how this crash got started.
Jazzy--I don't have a fireplace, would have liked one but couldn't find a house with one that met my other needs at the time. Someday I may put in a pellet stove with live fire, but for now not needing to worry about fireplace maintenance is a benefit. So many chimney fires already this year, and can remember having one in the house when I was growing up, very scary roaring sound and then standing in the snow for what seemed like hours while Mom and Dad dealt with it. I do have a Fireplace DVD that I can put on the TV to create the visual effect! I'll check out the yoga finder, thanks for the link! Wow, what a dress!
Librarian--glad the bone scan is over, praying for good results and an easy CT scan and good results there, too. Blue Laws are funny things, aren't they?
Chi--color coordinating the closet may be a bit OCD, but it does truly make choosing outfits easier, particularly first thing in the ayem if I don't do it the night before like I should. Quality clothes hangers are a funny expense no one really thinks about, but it is one place where spending some money makes a difference. I have hangers with the cut outs for tanks and strapped tops, and flocked hangers to keep things from slipping off.Still loooking or the best way to manage pants, capris and leggings.
Cammy Cat--that kitten is so cute! The long work days are a bit much, but with time off right afterward it's turning out to be not so bad after all. And I do love getting greeted at the door by Silly Sadie!

Hi ladies- Day #2 on the diet and no one has been murdered yet, lol. Actually, it is all going fine, being prepared with the food in the fridge and being ready makes all the difference. Because I am not working right now either, it gives me the chance to really focus on this diet with meal prep, etc. Doing a lot more cooking than I normally do, but that is good as well. I am trying to break some bad habits of buying too much prepared food (premade salads, sandwiches, ready to cook meals) and get back to cooking more healthy meals I can cook, which are simple and not too much time to prepare. Phase 1 of South Beach projects anywhere from 8-13 lbs on the strict 2 week initial phase; on average, I have lost 10 lbs a week in the past by doing Phase 1. That is faster than we want, two pounds a week is average on the extended phase but this is the jump start phase to help get some initial weight off and that which is concentrated around the midsection. I already dropped 1.4 lbs the first day, which I know is probably water retention. The diet is known for getting some water weight off as you eliminate your sodium, sugar, carbs, etc.
NM- glad you are having more slow down time. I am finally doing a bit of that myself as I came in to the new week. Still getting things done, but creating more time for me right now too. A pellet stove would be a great thing to have, many people in NM use them for a primary heat source. Also, a gas fireplace is a nice option too, that is what I have and it came with the home build, and a switch you flip on and off when you use it. That assumes you use natural gas for other things, which you may not. I agree regular fireplaces are messy and come with a lot of fire risks.
I saw your pics on FB about that bad accident, an a Lifestar is never a good sign. There was a very bad accident outside of Pittburgh this weekend where I have some family nearby, and relieved to see some photos of them on FB this weekend that they are okay. One of the sons goes to college in Pittsburgh and know they are back and forth to see him all the time. I saw a car flipped upside down on the drive home from Santa Fe on New Years day on an embankment along I-25 and don't think that could have ended well either. Slow down people!
Goldie- sorry to hear the glamping was not better, and that both of you got some kind of crud. So much sickness going around here right now and glad to be away from the healthcare org that was rife with the flu when I left. They make all their employees get flu shots, but they cannot enforce that on vendors who go in and out all the time. Hope you are settled back in. We have been having some nice days (this past weekend) but it's cold and windy again this week.
JCS- I grew up back east and remember when they finally loosened the Blue Laws at the end of the 70s (I had to look it up, it was 1979). I was working at a shoe store part time back then, while I was in my second year of college and remember I was happy about it as it meant I could work. Plus we were part of a union back then, we got time and a half on Sundays too! Back when minimum wage was shy of $3/hr which meant $4.50 and I grabbed those hours when a lot of people did not want to work on Sundays at all. They were only allowed to be open from 12-5 then, and find that is true many places still. A ban on pantyhose on Sundays, and back when women wore skirts a lot too, wow. I always felt buying pantyhose was like throwing money in the trash as they never lasted very long?
Best wishes for the next scan and good outcomes from all of this.
Chi- it is great you are going through the closets and eliminating the too big clothing now. I did that a couple years ago when I lost about 20 lbs and was more firmly in a Chico's size 2 and dropped to a 12. I probably have mentioned this before, but if you can locate a consignment store that takes Chicos and other better brands I bet you have, you can consign those and get money on credit for new items. I was able to take a bite out of buying new things by using store credit at a couple places to get some things in smaller sizes. I checked Yelp and there are a number of consignment stores both in the city and in the burbs. My suggestion before you bring things is to go visit a store to see what brands they carry, many have lists of what they won't take. I still take things to consignment for both summer and winter, and enjoy the store credit to get a new purse, etc.
You have done so well and seem to have figured out how to eat when you travel, do your gigs, etc. Maintaining is always the hardest. Bravo girlfriend!
Cami- my sister has a young female cat, just a bit over a year who bats her food around. She wants part of what my sister is eating, but then plays with her sampling for awhile. She's a silly girl, but sounds like a lot of babies who play with their food before finally eating it? And I am glad you got to see some of the fashion on line from the globes. I have a link to send to you on something I think you will want to see from that evening too.
And with Sunday's growing up, the 1960s in our home was always focused around going to church, then my mother would make her "sunday dinner" which was something like a pot roast, leg of lamb, etc. and would usually bring my grandfather over to have dinner with us. Then some of us would pile in the car and drive around town to see what was new. Oh how I yearn sometimes for the simplicity of those times. By the 1970s, there was a bigger rise in both retail and restaurants (including fast food) in our area, and a demand for it to be available on a 7 days basis. As a teenager wanting to have a summer job and who also worked PT during college, I liked it. A lot of things began really changing in the 70s......
My DOTD is herbal tea right now. Yesterday it was georgia peach red tea, today not sure what it will be. I have a lot of loose leaf herbal teas I am going to enjoy during this diet.
Have a good Tuesday!

For you jazz fans, David Sanborn has new own new series of jazz sessions, just like Daryl's house. Called Sanborn Sessions, here is one to check out. I have heard of Kandace but boy do I like her music:

Wow - She's something. thanks for posting.

Kim, that mega-pileup made the news here--turns out the cause was blinding morning sun, and traffic was moving eastbound. I'm terrified of that, but on the flip side when I'm heading west at evening rush hour, traveling to the W. 'burbs, SW to Sparta or NW to Madison, WI.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day, and Monday day for me! Forgot to turn the alarms back on, fortunately Silly Sadie got me up this ayem. I swear it's like she KNOWS this stuff! Yesterday's pile up on the interstate has been settled at about 30 vehicles. Several "significant but not life threatening injuries" with one LifeFlightevacuation. Initial reports are blaming the rising sun in driver's eyes and slightly slippery roadway. I know that spot, the sun will shine right in your face and if your windshield is not clean you can't see at thing. This time of year sunrise is right when the morning commute to work is in full swing. It was crazy to listen to on the scanner.
Jazzy--I don't have natural gas for anything at this point, eventually am going to switch the electric range over to gas, I prefer cooking on gas to electricity.I remember Sundays going to Church, too, and the women of the congregation getting upset with the Pastor when his sermon went overlong--it would ruin the chicken or roast that was put in the oven before leaving home so as to be ready when returning from church! Seriously, I remember watching and listening as some of the ladies would tell the Pastor that dinner would be done at noon and he'd better be done by noon, too!
Now that kitty has perfected the relaxed dining experience!
Chi--yup, I heard that too. What adds to the fun is that there is an exit right at the top of a hill, right where the sun is full inyour face, so people are going 70 and coming up on people starting to slow down to turn off. Another reason I stay off the interstate most of the time now.

NM, we've talked about pellet stoves in the past. They also need to be cleaned, and I had wood stove in Michigan, but the pellet stoves are not near as messy. Glad to hear you avoid that interstate. I too prefer a gas stove over electric. No way could we even have electric, it would eat up most of my power. Ours is propane, same with my dryer.
Jazzy, good for you on the diet. Not sure I could deal with no carbs, love me's pasta, potatoes and bread! The glamping was not bad at all, just the weather was a little less pleasurable! I always thought it was just me that ran a pair of pantyhose the second time I wore them! Can't even imagine what was spent on them during the time I wore them!
Some of you will have seen this on my FB page, so if so, just skip by. I'll just copy and pasted what I put there. Just shoot me! All stuffed up, hard to breathe, horendous headache, cheeks hurt like the dickens due to full sinus cavities, fever last night at 102, down to 100 this morning, and uncontrollable shakes to go with the fever. Was in beed for 12 hours.
Edited to add sneezing, let's not forget that! I feel like I did when I had E coli! Certainly it can't be that can it? Can one run a fever with a cold? -
Lori- I saw your post on FB and so sorry you are sick. Hotels can be germy places and the flu is bad this year. Take care of yourself, drink plenty of fluids and stay in that bed resting until you are better sister. Sending healing love your way.....

Helloooooo Dear friends for those of you that remember me!!!! Haven't been here in forever and have thought about you girls often, you all got me thru one of the toughest years of my life! It's just that every time I opened the BCO site I'd soon find myself looking at articles that kept me thinking about BC or I'd come across someone that I was talking to during chemo and find they now had mets or whatever it was it kept me in a loop. I just needed to put the site away to move on from it for awhile.... and it worked, I've found that I've moved on and really put it behind me. But I've always loved my drinkin' girls that helped me to get here. That said... lets ketchup abit!
Jazz, love the funny kitten, SO cute, I especially love the purring! I'm on a keto diet, trying to really stick to it 100%. Cut way back on my wine, ugh, losing weight is SO hard! Good luck and I hope the weight drops off just as it's supposed to. Meal prepping really helps, open the fridge and grab and go.
ChiSandy, sounds like we are pretty much on the same diet, try to keep my net carbs between 20-30, I'm in ketosis but so far have not shed a pound, very frustrating, sounds like you've really lost some weight, good for you! I got rid of all my small clothes a few years ago but ever since then I add a size every year, would love to finally get to throw away the big stuff!
Cami, I remember stores not being open on Sundays, even most gas stations were closed. By the time I was in junior high 7-11's had popped up and fast food restaurants and changed the world! How old is Joey now, what grade? And how is Leslie? Hope you all had a nice Christmas!
NM, Ugh, I remember that pile-up you were involved in like it was yesterday, I'm sure that news story brought it all back. Glad to hear Sadie is doing well, still sneaking off household items to the doghouse? What work are you doing now, I think it was PRN hospice when I was last here. Have you had a lot of snow so far this winter? We've been so lucky here in Ohio, super mild and no more than a dusting of snow so far.
Lori, I keep up with you a bit on FB, I'm more of a voyeur than anything, I comment once in awhile tho. So sorry to hear that you are sick, just sucks. My DH and I just got over it, my New Years cocktail was Theraflu! I had the flu shot so it wasn't too bad all in all. I know your meds and your immune system and your ratbastard mf-er stage 4 make it so much worse for you.... just sucks. Glad you got to have a good time away, was it MOAB? Did you get a new puppy? Saw a few pics of you and a cut little pooch on FB.
Hi librarian, My name is Mary even tho my user name says genny... that's another story. I used to post daily on this thread and even once went on a cruise with NM and a bunch of other BCO ladies. I don't like holding still, when I was in the initial scanning stages it usually required Xanax. Good luck with tx, hope it's all super effective.
Any news from Dara and Sue?
Now a quick recap of my life. We currently have 3 dogs, Junior Harvey and Hazel. Our german shepherd Louie died just before Christmas, he was 10 and had degenerative mylopathy and lost the use of his back legs, worse part of having pets but we got 3 good years with him. That's the good and bad of rescuing seniors. Hazel was my husband's sisters' dog, she is a mixed breed about 7 and very sweet. My DH's sister went to the NC state fair with her daughter an g-kids and they walked thru a room with crafts and a hot tub exhibit. A few days later she thought she was getting the flu, developed a high fever and went to a walk-in clinic. They gave her an order for blood work and sent her home, the next day her daughter couldn't get hold of her and sent her hubby to check on her and she was collapsed and incoherent on the floor. He called for an ambulance but she went into cardiac arrest at the hospital and died the next day. Turns out she and 135 other people got Legionnaires disease from the hot tub exhibit! She was the 1st of 4 to die. She had RA and the meds caused her immune system to be compromised. Anyway, she had 2 dogs, we found a home for 1 but kept Hazel. Nora turned 6 last Sunday! Can you believe it, she's in kindergarten, I'll post some pics soon. Also, she has a sister now, Evelyn who will be 1 next month, just got a video of her taking her first steps yesterday. DH is good, I've cut down work to 2 days/wk and will start getting my SSI next month! Part of the reason I finally opened the BCO site is because I'm having a new back pain since before Christmas, my MO retired last year so I'm going to a new one next week, hoping to get a bone scan just to be sure I have nothing to worry about, probably just a tweaked muscle but best to find out. I'll keep in touch. So that's the Readers Digest condensed version of my last few years. Talk to you all soon, at least weekly... love and miss you all! XOXO
-
Hi Genny- good to hear from you and welcome back!
I have not heard anything here in awhile about Dara, nor MemaSue. Sometimes people drop off and come back, as you have.
I hope the problem with your back is nothing of concern. Good to get it checked out though if it lingers.
-
Mary - I can't believe that Nora is in kdg. Sorry to hear about your SIL

Mornin' ladies,
GENNY ur back, its so nice to hear from you and I don't blame u for taking a leave from all that reminded u of Cancer and so hope ur back is just a "thing" that happens. And Nor is getting o so big, I remember the very first pics. of her with her big eyes. U have to get a new pic. on here so everyone can see Anorable. i can't get over ur DSIL that is horrible an such a shock. As the girls here know mu little Joey is now 6'1' and will have a license this year. And Thank God he;s still so sweet so it's all good. Leslie is still struggling with repercussions from her cancer, it just hasn't stopped. Hope u come back but not cu things are going wrong.
Kim that pile up really hit the news And that was with no snow. A little unusual. U have to be back at work now, has everything settles down now. I hope so. So Sadie is back on schedule and waiting for you and u waiting to get home to her.
Oh Lori sorry to hear about <I believe some kind of viral thing> something u can't really get a script for, u have to rest. My niece started it around her home and everyone is catching it so I didn't see her for a couple of weeks. I hope it doesn't last, that long with you. She hasn't been sick in years. OH BTW I still give the presents out, they're just little things and of course I tell everyone if they don't like it just throw it out. Get lots of rest don't push urself. like u tend to do.
Jazzy ur starting off really good with ur diet, and Sandy is doing great. Les is seeing a nutritionist and so far her loss is 20 lbs. An she tries to go o the gym 2x a week if she's up to it, sometimes her pain is just to bad but she does push herself. I myself cheated, I just lost my appetite and things just taste good to me, it had had nothing to do with dieting. So I don't give me any credit for my weight loss it just happened. That's a big difference from working for it.
My day started with quite a few calls yesterday and some confusion so I never got here, before I knew it my niee was her for my shower then I fell asleep. <oh confusing wasn't my fault, all customers> but untangling it was my job so I never got here.Wow I still could puzzle things out, I impressed myself this time.LOL
Well TGIF Eve everyone
LUBS U ALL

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Getting up to a rather chilly 12 degrees with gusty winds and wind chills toa round 0. Brrr.Even Sadie cut her trip outside rather short this ayem!
Goldie--When I get the stove changed over to gas I'll probably replace the electric dryer that has been broken for 20 years now with a gas one, too. It's actually funny, I don't miss the dryer enough to bother getting it fixed in all this time. Maybe I should just get rid of it and create more space in the laundry room! So sorry you aren't feeling well, I did see the Fb post, no fun at all!
Jazzy--any public place is a germ party this time of year! Let's see, elevator buttons, door knobs, door handles, TV remotes (was it one of us that puts TV remotes in hotels in a ziplock bag after sanitizing it?), hand rails in hallways and stairways, telephones, menus, light switches, heater/AC controllers, keys/keycards, vending machine buttons, ice machine handles, so many places to pick up something!I listened to an online seminar yesterday and learned that hand sanitizer with alcohol is now considered better than soap and water for hand cleaning by the CDC. And I learned that Alcohol based hand sanitizer with 50-60% alcohol actually performs better than the stuff with 70-90% alcohol!Who'da thunk? The only catch is c diff and norovirus--soap and water is still best for preventing those.
Genny!!!!I can understand needing to step away from the constant reminders in order to get truly over the intense early times of the bc journey. So glad to hear you are doing well. Yup, the pile up did bring back some memories, so glad I had the day off and could just listen on the scanner. Sadie isn't sneaking things into the crate like she used to, once in a while I find something in there. I think I'm better at not leaving stuff out, and she's not spending anywhere near as much time home alone to get into trouble. I am now working for a nursing home as a Staff Educator. Generally Mon-Fri, 8 to 4, with some shifting around when I'm teaching classes in the early ayem or late peeyems for the 3-11 and 11-7 shifts. Love the work, love the predictability of the work time and sure time off and especially love the teaching part! We've gotten quite a bit of snow, but it's melting off in between storms, so the ground cover is about 3-4 inches right now. So sorry to hear about Louie. What a shock about your SIL! And Nora has started school? Wow, where did that time go???And she has a sister!I can see how the back pain is worrisome, it will be go to find out what is going on there. Hope to see you again soon!
Morning, Karen!
Cammy Cat--Yup, back to work, but had a Wednesday, Women and Wine get together after work, so I was late getting home from Sadie's point of view. So she got lots of extra cuddles last night and forgave me. I can't believe that pile up made the national news, it's nowhere near as big as many I've heard reported on. Of course you untangled yourself with the calls, you are a very caring and organized person, even if you don't see it in yourself!

just a quick pop in before work. Pics of my girls, Nora looking so grown up.
Kim, your job sounds perfect, so glad you like it and free of the stress of driving to who knows where and working a gazillion hours a week. And so much better for Sadie too. I take Harvey and Junior to work with me, administration gave me the green light on it, not really ok by the state but so far I haven’t been caught. The residents love them and they are just part of the beauty shop now. Harvey used to get into trouble when left alone but like Sadie, he got me trained so I know what I can and cannot leave lying around.Cami, oh my gosh Joey 16 and over 6 feet! So crazy to believe, glad he’s still your sweet boy.
Ok, morning, jazzy, Karen, Lori, Sandy and everybody else, got to hop in the shower, day 2 of my 2 day work week! I love my new schedule, gotta run! Have a good day

Good morning friends- happy Thursday. The week is going fast, but only because I am not working right now, lol. I had a couple slower days on Mon to Tues, yesterday got back to all my to dos, including getting some more irons in the fire for work opps. I also got out to a plethora of errands yesterday too, including a long overdue trip to Sam's Club for cleaning and paper supplies, got a custom order for some broken blinds figured out, then off to drop of a wad of donations from some of my de-cluttering work. I am getting more rested too, decompression feels mighty good!
Day 4 of the diet and doing well so far. Dropped 3 lbs in the past three days, but know some of that is water retention, always sheds the first few days. But I will take it. First three day are always the biggest adjustment for me to get in to the routine and food prep, first hurdle overcome!
Genny- I totally missed the part in my original read about your SIL. I can't believe what happened with her visit to that fair, what a shock. Legionnaires in a hot tub exhibit, just wow. I am so sorry for your family's loss friend. Much love to all of you
And thank you for sharing the photos of Nora. She has a new sister too! Both are such cuties. Nora is still so stylish, I remember that from before. I hope she likes being a big sister and hope you enjoy spoiling those girls!
NM- natural gas is used widely in the west for most everything, including heating. Very cost efficient, especially right now as natural gas is really low at the moment (although with commodities, we never know if that will last). I have a hot water heater, dryer, stove that are all natural gas plus I have a gas fireplace. If you get gas plumbed in to the house, consider the gas fireplace. May be a bigger renovation than you want to deal with, but they are really nice (and no mess with wood, residual charcoal, etc.)
I was thinking of you the past day as I have been getting contacted by a couple of my former colleagues at the former client site I left last week. A couple have reached out to ask how I am doing (but more likely to talk about trying to survive there right now). They did a contractor cut end of the year, froze open positions, and now are starting to layoff from what I hear. Not surprised, saw the writing on the wall. A group of my colleagues are going to a prof org event next Thursday night and invited me to join them, but not deciding right now if I will go or not. It could be a good time for networking, but don't want to get caught up in the gossip. Drama management sister.
Goldie- how are you feeling today sister?
Cami- sounds like you have been busy with your job and lots of phone calls this week. Good to hear Les is getting help from a nutritionist and with exercise routines too. It takes awhile to get your strength and fitness back after cancer treatment. I did some personal training at the gym I used to belong to about a year and a half after I finished treatment. It really helped. I hope she continues to get stronger every day. Joey back to school again after the holidays? I bet he told everyone he is shaving.......
Okay friends, got to get to my to dos. Wishing everyone a good slide in to Friday. Sounds like we are getting snow tomorrow, but can always use the moisture.

Oh Mary, I'm so glad to see you back here. Sorry about your SIL, that is just horrible. I hope there is a lawsuit. Also sorry for the loss of Louie. And your other fur babies are adorable, and of course I can't remember all their names. Your cat, that has sex with a stuffed animal, and your GS that DH did hospital visits with, and what that is called escapes me as well! Damn chemo brain. Nora is too cute and she has a cute little sister in Evelyn. As far as "cancer talk", you know, we really don't discuss that much, so just come here and don't look at anything else! I have not heard from Sue or Dorothy. As for weight loss, I think you look fine. I think all of us get a little bigger as we age and it becomes the new normal. Yes, we went to Moab and no, not our puppy. He belongs to our friend that was here over Xmas.
Cami, that cat meme cleaning the toilet is hilarious! Congrats to Les on the weight loss, and you losing 100 lbs is amazing, especially without even trying! Where is Les's pain? And yes mom, I'm taking it easy. Pretty much don't have a choice in that matter!
NM, I had to laugh at your dryer being broke for 20 years. Broke, as in, you can't use it? I barely use mine at all and before I got one, socks and underwear were hung on the line too! I will toss things in for a few minutes just to smooth out wrinkles. Amazing all the surfaces that we touch that have germs that we don't think about. Never thought about all the things in hotel rooms, like the remote and door knobs and the way people rub their noses with their hands and then touch these things. I'll bet that is how I got sick.
Jazzy, I think you are the most organized person I know! Gas fireplace would be good idea for NM. We have one in the bedroom, don't use it much, but it helps when we return home and the house is really cold. Good luck on finding a new job to work at, but know you will find something. Possible snow for us too tomorrow.
Hey hey Karen!
As for me, fever broke last night, and as I mentioned on FB, it's amazing how much a fever can take out of you. I still have a ways to go, but just having that gone is a great improvement. Now hoping I can eat. Had notta yesterday. Not sure if any of you know this, as it's not something I ever think about. My son is from a previous marriage, got married very young, 19 and had him at 21. Well that marriage didn't work out, thank God and my next husband adopted my son, as his biological father wanted nothing to do with him and didn't want to pay child support. Well, he has been talking to a half brother and went yesterday to visit his sperm donor and got to meet him and one of his half sisters. Will be interesting to see where it goes from here on out.

Goldie- glad you are doing better and the fever broke. The body was working hard to fight the crud for you. I hope you can keep getting stronger every day sister
