how about drinking?

Mornin ladies,
Happy Festivas to all I like that holiday. LOL
Wow a lot's going on with the holiday coming for u gals and of course tests. I always hate the one where u have to wait for hrs. for the actual test and when it's over u can't wait to go home. I hope everything is good. I love the "70's pic."
Sandy I never knew u wrote and recorded a song <or did I> being an attorney doesn't sound like ur first love. Good for Gordy going to Houstonand glad ur having more that coffee to drink. Chit I drink coffee at night, I like to hear about the wines.
Kim I never knew u can call for a lift. So good to know. As most of u know I fall a lot. Thank God I never really hurt anything just bruises and hurt comes with mine. But as u know I fall in slow motion so I have time to position myself a little, but I can't use my knees to crawl or my arms to pick me up so that commercial is me.If anyone is around while I'm falling I hear laughing and right after I hear panic then I start laughing so it's crazy.
Jazzy what a wonderful end of year for u I'm so happy things r going so well.
Lori it's hard to plan for company even when everything is good. But when u never really know how u'll feel it's wicked. Just hoping u feel good and can enjoy ur day.
I'm so far behind in everything and it's not bothering me I'm way to laid back, like my Mom use to tell me the whole neighborhood wonders how u make it to school on time every morning, cuz I hardly moved when I walked. <Those days everyone knew everyone> And now I'm even slower LOL
Hope everyone has a productive and feeling goo day.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Christmas Eve! Sadie say "Woof" to everyone. Going to be an interesting day at work today, should see lots of visitors and the extra activity and generally higher noise levels is causing some upset and unrest with some of the residents with dementia. Some have such a hard time dealing with any change in routine. And we found out that one of the neighboring nursing home has an outbreak of Norovirus going on. Many of our CNAs work for a staffing agency, so they work at that facility as well as mine, and 3 were working sick over the weekend in my facility. So now we're trying really hard to make sure that everyone is doing all the hand washing and such to keep that bug at bay. Just what everyone needs for Christmas, right? And this time of year visitors will make the rounds of the Nursing Homes, sometimes visiting all of them in one day! Keep the hand sanitizer handy, folks, and don't touch your face!
Goldie--I think most people do talk to their pets. I'm just glad that talking to my dog isn't a HIPPA violation! I hear you about the twice as much to do today cuz of taking yesterday off, but sometimes that day off is just so worth it! That wine looks very yummy! Was it good?
Cammy Cat--Lift assists are a pretty common call for most ambulance services. It's much better than having someone get hurt trying to help someone else up off the floor. And it's a way to get hunky guys into the house!
Chi--I've seen lots of Glogg recipes over the years, never have tried it, though. Is it as good as it looks?

Cami, I'm feeling just fine. No SE's as of yet from the new meds. Please call for a lift next time you fall, so they can at least check you out. Besides, you never know what kind of hunks you might get for that assistance!
Jazzy, no precip as of yet.
NM, like Sandy mentioned, the Red Ass Rhubarb was on the sweet side, but yes, it was good. Hope that it's not too hard today with the patients that struggle with change. Egg nog jellow shots, yummmmmmm! Oh my, please do be cautious with that virus going around. Why do people work when they are sick?
I managed to get just about everything done. Waiting to see if it's going to snow or not Still fighting with insurance company over one of my drugs, the Faslodex, they don't want to pay for it, GRRRRRRR! Been dealing with this for a month now! This is what they are saying: At first they said that the authorization was missing clinical information and diagnosis, well they got that. Now they are saying there is efficacy with the single agent verzenio. Not sure what that is about.

The fun is about to start! The kids are coming tonight for dinner. We will have beef tenderloin, baked potatoes, mushrooms, tossed salad and rolls. Yesterday I made a cherry pineapple dump cake and blueberry lemon muffins. One son will come for a late breakfast on Christmas morning. We will have eggs, waffles and the muffins. Then the whole group will get back together for an early supper. Ham, scalloped potatoes, sweet potato casserole, fresh green beans, grape salad and rolls. Pretty sure I will do no cooking until New Years Day!
I do hope everyone has a great holiday celebrating however and with whoever you want to. I sincerely hope we all have a great new year with good news on all fronts. My resolutions are to get good sleep, eat well cleaner) and control the stress levels.
Happy Holidays!

Couldn't resist posting this recipe for alcoholic frosting here as well as the dinner thread. The original use was for gingerbread cookies, but i bet it's good on chocolate cake too. Happy Holidays to everyone.
Baileys Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients:
- 2 sticks salted butter, at room temperature
- 2 cups confectioner's sugar
- Baileys Irish Cream
Directions:
- Beat the butter until it is fluffy and pale yellow in color. A lot of recipes will call for unsalted butter, but I love the flavor play using salted butter in my buttercream.
- Slowly add in the confectioner's sugar until thoroughly combined.
- Slowly add in the Baileys until you have your desired, velvety frosting texture. I always eyeball this step, so I couldn't tell you how much I actually use. But if I had to put a number on it, I probably dribble in 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup when all is said and done.
...gingerbread cookies look like with this delicious, boozy frosting. The best part? Since the frosting isn't cooked or baked in any way, the alcohol in the Baileys doesn't get cooked out of the recipe. Enjoy responsibly, as they say.

Mornin' ladies on EVE day.
Wow Kim sounds not so good where ur working right now. I know it's true change for older people is rough and then u have this virus going around just hope it's all contained. R u done with everything that needs to be done??? Just stay well cuz u and Sadie have to celebrate.
Lori I knew u'd be ready, u always are. U r so organized with everything. <Jeez I started this at 8am this morning WTF>
Oh about paramedics I've told u all the times they/ve been here, but not all the times cuz they know us by our first names and we know them and whenever they've taken me they now tell me how much fun they have they are sooo nice and most are hunky and now with not filters I tell them.
OK Joey and I have been doing my presents for 2 hrs. not because I had so many but I couldn't remember who they were for and somehow we couldn't find a bunch---they'll turn up after Christmas cuz we're not looking anymore. But at least Joeytold me he had so much fun with me, there's my Christmas right there.

DOTD was Sangria by the campfire to celebrate 19 years of marriage with DH, one of a kind in the best way.
Hi all, I see the festivities are beginning, enjoy.
-
Merry Xmas to those who celebrate. I'm in Santa Fe in a bit of paradise at this new hot springs resort. Just started raining so I came in for a bit. Then hot stone massage & dinner after
-
All decked out in my new "ugly sweater T-shirt" and red jacket---heading to Cellars for dinner. Seeing how wine bottles are half-price tonight, there will be a DOTD!
Not sure gløgg is all that delicious...if it's spiked enough, who notices the taste?
Happy third candle, and Merry Christmas!
-
As promised: DOTD was Paul Chevalier Blanc de Blancs, Cremant de Bourgogne.
-
or HAPPY THIRD CANDLE

JCS, sounds like you have a lot going on for Xmas! For breakfast I make a breakfast caserole. It's made the day before, and then in the morning you just pop it in the oven!
Minus Two, I can't even imagine how yummy that Bailey's frosting is.
Cami, I can see you and Joey wrapping gifts and just having a good ole time. Sorry about the missing gifts tho.
BabyGirl, wishing you and DH a very Happy Anniversary. Are you camping?
Jazzy, you sure find the best places to go. Enjoy!
Sandy, glad you are getting some drink on!
NM, hoping it was a joyous day at work yesterday. You working today?
Little after 6 am, guess I better get the breakfast casserole in the oven. Merry Christmas all!
-
DOTD last night was a French sauterne dessert wine
-
Goldie, we sure are camping. Mon-Thur at a nearby state park for fishing, trails and to generally get away. Just a quiet holiday of planning future adventures 😁
Happy Festivus to all 🎉
-
Happy Holiday to all. Baileys with coffee is the morning drink of the day for me. With dinner, a nice Gewurtztraminer.
-
Just wanted to thank you guys. I have never posted on this thread, but I check in here often and you always make my day (after a rough year of diagnosis, chemo, surgery, radiation and finally feeling like myself again).
Happy Holidays!
Lauren from NJ :

Lauren - glad we make you smile 😁
-
Hi, Lauren! Merry Christmas!
Jazzy, do you remember which Sauternes it was? (Next time, try it with a side of fresh strawberries & Roquefort).
-
Tonight at Fireside Inn, a forgettable Pinot Noir (first glass was from a "corked" bottle, undrinkable) to accompany a forgettable prime rib (though the appetizers were good). They ran out of gløgg, so I had to make my own, by spiking some Lynfred Christmas Red (grape, strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb, spices) with vodka and warming it. Gonna follow it up with decaf almond milk cappuccino.
-
Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Day after Christmas! This here Loungette is still tired from working yesterday. I had forgotten that Christmas Day is a big telephone call day, and guess who wound up running all over the facility getting residents to various phones so that they could take long distance calls from friends and families? And guess who really, really does not like phone work? Yup, you guessed it. Add to that one of the Med Techs having an emotional freak out over nothing first thing in the shift, and a C.N.A. being a royal PIA about helping other C.N.A.swith residents who need 2 people to move safely and, being short handed, yours truly tried to step up and be available to help out with that all while dealing with scads and scads of visiting families all with a million questions and concerns and all the paperwork that Medicare and the state requires and this nurse now remembers why working Christmas Day is such not my favorite holiday to work! Still, several families brought in fudge and candy for the staff, that was really nice. BUT, I am sooo tired this ayem! Thinking I'm going to make this a short day at work.Sadie agrees with that plan, she wasn't too happy with me when I got home from work last night. She was sleeping in the recliner and decided she was not going to get up and let me have it! It took 15 minutes of belly rubs, ear scratches and telling her about the day before she'd let me have the chair!
Goldie--so glad the new meds aren't causing problems. Praying it stays that way. Great pic of the firemen and firehouse dogs! I am being careful with the virus season. The thing with the norovirus is that it hits hard and fast. One minute you are fine, the next you are losing lunch out of both ends. And, of course, you are contagious from the moment you first throw up or have the hersey squirts. So if it hits while you are working, there you are!
Cammy Cat--cut Christmas Kitties! So far the virus is affecting any of our residents, just a few of the staff, hoping to keep it that way. The holidays are a hard time for some of the folks, especially the ones with dementia, but we get through! OK, so if you are on a first name basis with the paramedics, don't be shy about calling them to help you up when you fall? Then you can serve them tea and cookies and have a visit!
Librarian--I hope the meals with the family were fun as well as tasty! I bet you won't be cooking for quite some time!
Minus--Oh my goodness, that frosting recipe sounds DELISH!!! Thanks for sharing it!
Illi--Happy Anniversary!
Jazzy--Ah, hot springs! Looks so nice with all the cold we're getting here!
Chi--Good point about the glogg being spiked enough!
Celia--Baileys in coffee is very good!Horchata (Rum Chata with cinnamon)is really good in coffee, too.
Welcome, Laurencl!Glad you are feeling more like yourself again.
Chi--you are so clever to make your own glogg!
DOTD--spike your coffee with whatever you like!!!

Morning all and Merry Day after!
Lauren, don't be shy, we welcome everyone.
Baby Girl, I hear ya about planning for future adventures, even if just small ones.
NM, that busy day is over! Hopefully today will be much easier. As for me and new SE's, I think it's too early, only been on it a week. I'm nervous to see what it's doing to my red/white blood cells.
Company left early this morning, had a nice visit with her and Bentley. Dinner was yummy, but I still have my dishes to do! Leaving a week from today for Moab.
-
I survived! The only change was that my oldest son and his wife came Christmas morning instead of afternoon. Just made more waffles! Everyone enjoyed their gifts and the food. Today, I am going for a walk and returning to my nest on the couch. I plan to spend the day reading and resting. Next are the college football bowl games, then de-decorating of the house. I need to get back on my healthier eating, but not until maybe mid-January. No New Year’s plans. We usually stay home after years of DH playing in bands for other people celebrating. Hope 2020 is great for everyone!

Mornin ladies,
Well Santa is gone but he was nice to us this year. Sounds like all had a nice one. And Lauren hope ur doing well but u can poop in any time u want we would certainly welcome u. And these women are fantastic in so many ways.
Jazzy if I lived by u u'd be taking me with you, believe me. U know how to relax..
Sandy I've got to say u came thru for me with ur wine. But ur celebrating isn't over yet right. I have forgotten so much over the years. I use to know more.
Happy Holidays Celia. Good to hear from you.
Lori I'm so glad these SE's are not hitting you and u got to enjoy ur day. Lori Joey was the one handing out gifts. It took hours oh not cuz there were loads but everyone had to put everything in order after each gift. Throw paper away, if box was still good fold it and save if not throw out, and organize what u bring in ur own room. Madonna Mia I was falling asleep.
Illi good for u, and like the idea of planning ur next adventures.
Kim glad ur taking a short day today, now u have to make it up to sadie. She cracks me up, wouldn't let u sit down. U can't out smart that one. LOL
Well phones are going and I need more coffee, for sure.

It sounds like every one had a good holiday. Even though NM had to work, I am sure the residents were glad that she was there.
This was our 2nd Christmas without my husband. It was a lot better than last year. I think it helped a little because we did things different. Instead of all of them coming over for Christmas dinner, I had them all for breakfast on Christmas Eve. Like Goldie, I make the breakfast casserole, I made two of them and hash brown casserole the night before and put them in the oven in the morning and had ham slices (actually it was turkey-ham - that is cheaper). Drink of the day that morning was a big pot of cocoa. It turned out really good, and with some of the kids going to other parents early Christmas day - it was perfect and spending a quiet Christmas day was nice. My mom had a get together on the 22nd (which was husbands birthday, so she made his favorite cake), it is good because the cousins and 2nd cousins can keep in touch with each other. My in-laws was Christmas eve night, so by Christmas day, I was ready for staying in my PJ's all day.
Hoping you all have a glorious New year. I think it is kind of funny how we all hope a new year is better than the last, like overnight the universe will all be different. I still like doing it, a new beginning to be healthier, happier, and more loving.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! I've got to check my hours but I think I need to work just 2 hours today to make my 40 and not go overtime. I've done well the past few weeks, with only an hour or less of overtime each week. I was asked to work 7 pm to 11 pm today, and said "no" after thinking it over. Just too tired to be up that late tonight! Not quite so tired today as yesterday but still dragging a bit. Will be glad of the short day. Poor Sadie had to wake me up to go to bed last night, I conked right out in the recliner while eating dinner! Of course, she cleaned off what was left on my plate (about half a serving of chicken alfredo from Olive Garden) before waking me up. She's got her priorities straight!
Goldie--Yesterday was an easier day, particularly helping out with the Coffee Tasting. The kitchen director made a batch of homemade marshmallow creamer to go along with all the other flavored creamers to try and it was delish! Some of the residents had a grand time trying the different flavored creamers. There was Caramel Latte, Hazelnut, Dark Chocolate, French Vanilla, and a couple of others that I can't recall just now. It was nice to be able to sit down, visit with residents and drink coffee for an hour! Still praying you have no or very, very few SE from the new treatment.
Librarian--glad your Christmas went so well! I remember January 2nd as being the official Take Down the Christmas Decorations day when I was growing up. I'm going out for New Year's Eve for the first time in absolutely ages, going to a Murder Mystery Dinner and so looking forward to it!
Cammy Cat--Good heavens, how can people be so organized when opening Christmas gifts? Part of the fun of Christmas is throwing wrapping paper balls at each other!Sadie is truly the queen of this home, and doesn't let me forget it!
Misty--sounds like you had lots going on this year for Christmas! Changing the traditions can help after losing a family member. Staying in the PJs all day is a nice luxury, isn't it?
This DOTD is a day late, I think, but I finally found one!
Boxing Day 2016
1½ oz Plymouth gin*
¾ oz St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
½ oz Pimm's No. 1
1/4 teaspoon vanilla paste or extract
3 dashes Fee Brothers plum bitters
¼ oz honey syrup (1 part honey dissolved in 1 part hot water)
1 egg white (or 1 oz vegan equivalent like chick pea liquid)
Turbinado sugar (Sugar in the Raw) and grated allspice for garnishing
Add all the ingredients (except for the garnish) and shake vigorously without ice. Add the ice and shake again. Strain into a cocktail coupe or a goblet and garnish with sugar and grated allspice. Enjoy!
*I was deliberately looking for a milder gin here because I wanted the St. Elizabeth's to really be the star. If you'd like more of a gin presence, feel free to substitute Beefeater or Tanqueray, both equally British!
What is Pimm's Number 1?
Pimm's is the familiar name for a liqueur that is formally known as Pimm's Cup No. 1 (the same as the mixed drink, though the drink typically drops the 'No. 1'). It is a gin-based liqueur with a deep red color that is flavored with 'herbal botanicals,' spices, and caramelized orange.

Cami, that's quite the ritual y'all have going on there after each gift is opened!
Misty, sounds like you made the most of the holidays, despite missing your dear husband. I love making those breakfast casseroles. Mine is croutons, cheese, milk, eggs, sausage and some dry mustard. And there are so many variations, you can put pretty much anything in it.
NM, oh that Sadie! She didnt' want you to eat too much, and figured since you were sleeping, you left it for her! Good for you in saying NO to work. Just a bummer that you have to go in for just 2 hours. I too hope my SE's are minimal. It's scary enough just being stage IV, but changing treatments can be scary too.
Currently snowing here, glad we went to town yesterday. Also went to the movies, saw Jumanji. It was "ok". But how can you not like something that Dwayne Johnson is in!
