how about drinking?

Goldie- I saw your post on FB and also reading here. I am so sorry about your daughter. I had bad fibroids and heavy bleeding once, and was getting anemic and also exhausted all the time. I never passed out, but see where it could happen. I know she has her surgery scheduled for this week and hope this accident did not compromise her ability to get the care she needs there. Keep us posted.
Keeping you all in prayer sister 🙏
-
DD's primary sent her to ER, they said they want to keep her overnight to run tests and see if she can still have surgery on Thursday. They are thinking they want her to wear a heart monitor. They have already done labs, but no results on those yet.
-
Goldie- I am glad she is getting checked out by the ER for anything else.

Good morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day!This is a big day for the students in my class--today they get their authorization to sign up for the nursing license test. I've got to get a bunch of info covered this ayem before they get their paperwork since I won't have much of their attention after, but it is so exciting and fun to watch them process the paperworkand get registered to test. They get so excited and it's such a big step for them. It's nice to end the class on a high note like that.Sadie will be happy cuz I'll be home early today.
Cammy Cat! --It can be just as much fun to drink virtually! In this heat and humidity I haven't even had a glass of wine for several days. I know from experience it will hit me hard when it doesn't usually hit me as much, and alcohol is dehydrating, so I just don't go there and just enjoy the pictures and the memories of some of the special drinks I've had, like the really nice one at the Bubbles Lounge on the Disney cruise a couple years ago. . . .
Goldie--I seem to have picked up my mother's attitude that arriving later than 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of anything is to be unforgivably late.Yesterday it worked in my favor! Your friend makes a very good point about fibroids and anemia. Praying DD gets sorted out ASAP.
Librarian--I think the moon has a lot to do with a lot of crazy thing, and crazy driving is one of them! People get absolutely nuts sometimes! Your friend's daughter has been through so much, and all of it not fair.
Morning, Jazzy!

Hi friends- decided to work from home today. Been a hot week here so far. Ready for fall!
-
Mornin ladies,
Lori when I read ur DD went to ER I felt some relief, after all they have to do <I think> is extensive tests to figure this all out and we all truly pray it will be dealt with and seriously sometime the simplest answer could be the answer, that would be great.
JC what a horrible thing for ur friends DD. Radiation is hard on the body but a centimeter off near the heart can do damage. They usually use a different type of rads when the heart area is involved. Remember I really know nothing medically I just think things logistically.
my phones are going UGH

The nice thing about working at home is making other plans for fun stuff. I promised my nephew who is visiting for his 30th birthday that I will take him on a hot air balloon ride during his balloon fiesta visit. It won't be cheap, but it is going to be a blast!
-
Goldie- So sorry to hear about your daughter. She is being hit with so much in such a short period of time.I was very anemic the whole time I menstruated, after I stopped my iron level is fine.I did not faint though, but can see why someone would.I hope whatever they fine out it won't be anything serious.
NM –You are right about older people not drinking because they it makes them go to the bathroom. My father does that,he cannot get up and down or walk to easily so he does not drink enough and on trips he won't drink at all.
Chi -I think it's weird that you go to bed hydrated and wake up dehydrated. It seems like your body wouldn't become dehydrated overnight. It was very interesting to read about how long it takes to hydrate your body. Thanks for all the information you share.
Cami – You can drink some of those pretty daiquiri's or other fancy, pretty drinks without the alcohol, heck just put whatever you are drinking in a fancy glass and it will feel like a special drink.
Jazzy – It must be great to be able to work from home sometimes.I love hearing about your music concerts and am so excited for your nephew to go up in a hot air balloon.
Librarian – I 'm glad you are getting in some fun days before your chemo. So sorry about your friends daughter, some people go through so much.
Waiting to hear about Illimae's next travel adventure.
Hope you all have a great day!

Misty, we’re leaving tonight for a long weekend at the cabin with a German couple we met several months ago (showing them west Texas). Then in September DH and I fly to Tennessee, I’ll ride along in the tour bus DH is driving to Chicago. He’ll pick up the band and drop me off for a 3 day music fest with my BFF (driving in from Milwaukee) and I’ll fly home from there.
Drinks and pics coming soon 😀

Thank you so much ladies for your concerns and prayers for my DD. They have done labs, EEG, EKG, heart monitor and they can't find anything wrong and she has been cleared for surgery tomorrow. The only thing they contribute it to is lack of sleep, stress and caffiene. She's one of those that drink Red Bull and energy drinks. I told her no more of that. So I will be worried tomorrow as well. So hard to see one of your kids go through so much and you can't be there with/for them.
Cami, what was it that your doctor was not happy about? Spill it lady!
NM, I think it's amazing that you get excited to watch your students. I think most teachers would just the hand the stuff out and wait. My DH is the same way about being early, and OMG, when we fly, we HAVE to be at the airport 2 hours early.
Jazzy, what an awesome gift to get for your nephew! I'll take a pass on that, if you were thinking of getting me something!!!! LOL
llimae, what a fun adventure! Can't wait for pics.
-
Goldie- that is very good news about your DD. I have never done those energy drinks but heard they can give people a lot of problems. I am glad she is cleared for surgery and they will be able to help take care of some of the problems tomorrow. Will be saying a prayer for her and please let us know how things go?
-
Goldie, DD in my prayers!

Wow, lots of posts to read tonight since I haven't been on in a few days! Goldie, sorry to hear about everything your daughter has been dealing with. Prayers for a successful surgery tomorrow!
ChiSandy, I hope you are feeling better. When I read that you were concerned about the possibility of a kidney stone, I thought oh no I hope not! I had one for the first time ever back in February, exactly 27 hours before my second lumpectomy. I had had a great night-went to dinner and a musical with my husband and my parents which helped take my mind off of my upcoming surgery to try for clear margins. Went to bed feeling happy and ready for surgery but woke in excruciating pain which was all in my lower back. I had no idea what was happening to me and was violently ill. After a trip to the emergency room at 3:30 AM and a morphine drip to lessen the pain that some other pain killer they injected into me failed even to touch, the doctor was able to get me settled enough to do a CT scan which showed one kidney stone on its way from my kidney to the bladder. I couldn't believe it. That was so NOT on my radar. Thankfully I passed it within a few hours and was able to have my surgery as scheduled, although I went into it a little battered and tired. I hope that is not what is going on with you. Keep drinking your water, which you sound like you are very good about. I never was very good at staying hydrated, but I drink much more water now ever since that horrific experience. I actually kind of laugh about it now because what are the odds that my breast surgery would have been prefaced with a trip to the ER for a kidney stone? I always tell people I had a kidney stone sandwiched in between two cancer surgeries. (Not to mention a knee surgery that came before all of it.) When it rains, it pours.
Cami, sometimes when I want to drink something more exciting than water but don't want the alcohol, I'll fill a stemless wine glass with ice and frozen slices of lemon, lime, and orange and then pour in some San Pellegrino sparkling water. The three different colors from the fruit slices are pretty and summery looking and add a nice taste to the water. Plus the fizz from the water makes it more of a sipper. Whenever I have extra citrus fruits that I think will go bad before I can use them, I slice them thin, freeze them on a cookie sheet for a few hours and then store them in a zip-loc bag to have on hand. It has also helped me drink more water to avoid any more kidney stones. I always keep a few bottles of sparkling water in my wine rack, so I have it ready. Added bonus is that they also help fill some empty spaces since I don't buy wine as much as I used to.
Drink of the Day: I had my golf league picnic this evening, so of course there is a new DOTD. One of the ladies brought a delicious vodka slush. It was loaded with sugar, not to mention the booze, so I just had a very small amount. It looked too refreshing to pass up altogether. I must say it was dangerously delicious, and in my pre-bc days, I'm sure I would have had a much more generous serving lol! Her recipe is as follows:
2 cans of frozen lemonade concentrate
2 cups of vodka
1 jar of maraschino cherries, including the juice
1 2 liter bottle of 7-Up
Stir it all together in a shallow, freezer-proof container and freeze until slushy. She served it in cups along with a spoon. The little semi-frozen cherries in it were delicious! Wish I could have had more, but it was water for me for the rest of the time. :-)

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Back to the nursing home today, looking forward to ketchuping with events there. Also looking forward to the humidity dropping off as predicted for today. Thunderstorm all around last night, but not here. At least one much have come close, we did get some rain overnight and Sadie did jump up on the bed and sleep with me for a while. Gotta love the window AC in the bedroom!
Jazzy--great to have the option to work from home isn't it? I've long wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride, but am not a fan of heights, so not sure how it would work out.Funny to see heated tents and hot breakfast being advertised, but then I noticed this is in October. Now it makes sense!
Good Morning, Cammy Cat!
Misty--Your father sounds like a typical elder!
Illi--Wow, what a trip you have planned!
Goldie--I really do enjoy being involved with students as they learn something new. It's so exciting for them and for me. This last group had a budding teaching in it--she led some of the work and did a great job both with the material and with engaging her classmates! It was great fun to watch. I"ve been in classes where the teacher just handed things out/read off the slides or from the book, and I was bored silly. I really don't want to bore anyone. Your DD needs to watch out for those energy drinks, they are mostly caffeine, and caffeine overdosing IS a thing and is dangerous. Some medical people call the heavy-duty energy drinks "cocaine lite" for the similar effects on the body. Hugs and prayers.
Super--what a horrendous time to have a kidney stone! I can imagine you were pretty battered and tired come surgery time. LOVE the idea of slicing and freezing citrus!I'm going to steal that Idea!
LOVE the Vodka Slush DOTD!

Mornin' ladies,
Oh Lori good to hear ur DD had so much testing and all's well with it. And now surgery u know keep us posted And Jay that balloon ride sounds wonderful, but Lori and I will be waving to u from the ground.
Misty and Super u both sound pretty OK right now, I'm glad.
Illi more traveling wow, but I think I read more pics with drunks , which is fine with me.
Kim altho to many people would miss u I always thought u would make the best teacher. It's not just ur knowledge it's ur compassion and presence even on paper That's why Sadie loves u so much.
I like the idea of frozen fruit too, going to do it.
Sandy what's hapening, I think I missed something.
Oh Lori ur just like me kinda word for word. Well I'm NOT concerned like my dr. is, but they have to be. My WBC has been rising more and more, I've lost weight to rapidly with no diet, I'm extremely exhausted all the time, bruises all over the place and a few more little things and I don't have anemia. So she's concerned annd I know what she's going for. I did call my Onc. and they had gotten a note thing from my dr. so they gave me an app't like in 10 days, I told her I could wait like usual, but they said no. So I'll go along with her little thinking and get it over with. And the only person I told was Dan cuz I won't be available for work and now he getting all nervous.
The goofy part is Dan he usually doesn't get into my drs. app't but for some reason he came over and wanted to know why I had to see my Onc. ASAP, I told him a few things and he's looking it up oh jee now he's worried and Ididn't tell anyone and he's threatening to if I miss my app't. I really didn't think he'd put this under such scrutiny, I thought he was more like me don't worry till u have to.So I have to calm him down. I told him he's an ASS, I tell him that anyway, but now more often. LOL
OK see I'm blabbering again blame this on Lori.

Cami - you have a lot of things going on. You go see that ONC & find out what they think. Remember info is power. Praying 🙏 for you too.

Here is what I know
Update for Jennifer:
Kidney surgery was about 3 hours, all went well. I assume they will send tumor for biopsy. Fibroids were next, as of 4:30 pm (EST) one fibroid removed. "Originally" they said she wouldn't be out of recovery until 6:30. So I don't know anything else other than that.
I will post updates right here, instead of a stream of comments.Update: 5:30 EST.
Another fibroid removed and I guess they are closing up. Her aunt says that both were removed. But from what Jennifer has been telling me, supposedly there were several.Update: 7:30 EST
Previous post was misinterpreted in text with her aunt. She is still in surgery, that is all I know.Update: 8:00 EST
Out of surgery, in recovery until 9:30 or so. Aunt is leaving, she gives me the updates, so I probably won't know anything more tonight.
4 fibroids removed.
#1 10 cm = 4"
#2 8 cm = 3"
#3 2 cm = 3/4"
#4 small -
Goldie - glad she's through surgery. Fingers crossed all benign stuff 🙏
-
Lori glad it's over and everything went well...I know now the waiting. U'll be able to talk with her tomorrow so u get a well deserved good nite's sleep. So good ur Aunt was there.
-
Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy TGIF day! I'll admitI'm looking forward to a bit of a sleep in tomorrow ayem. Should be a nice weekend, have got to get out and get some yard work done. Sadie just wants to play in the water so there will probably be a trip to the lake involved.
Cammy Cat--you find the cutest kitteh pics!I love teaching, it's so nice of you say I'm a good one.I really hope so! All the things you have going on can be signs of something that needs medical attention. Go for the early appointment and rule out all the nasty stuff and make the family happy, ok? You don't have to worry or pay attention to anything except pacifying the family. Although it would be nice if you could post a report when the appointment is over so the rest of us will know if we need to be worried for you or not!
Morning, Jazzy.
Goldie--I was following the updates on FB last night. Glad the surgery is over. Now let the healing begin!
Watermelon Martini Cocktail
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup kosher salt
- 6 oz fresh watermelon juice (I used a seedless watermelon so mixed it in my food processor and then strained it through a metal strainer).
- 2 & 1/2 oz good vodka
- 2 & 1/2 oz Limoncello or orange liqueur
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- Ice
- Watermelon wedges for garnish
Instructions
- Chill 2-3 glasses in your fridge or freezer 10 minutes before making the cocktail.
- Combine the sugar and salt and spread it on a flat bread plate. Dampen the rim of your glass with water or lime juice and dip it in the sugar/salt mixture. (Save the leftover mixture for another occasion).
- Combine the watermelon juice, vodka, liqueur and lime juice in a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 6-8 times.
- Strain and pour the mixture into the prepared glasses and garnish with a watermelon wedge.

SPLASH! Meet you at the swim up bar, we'll grab a drinky and move over to the hot tub for a soak!
-
Mornin' ladies,
Kim this whole weekend is supposed to be nice, I think the first one actually. So gardening now too should be on the list.Kim I didn't tell anybody about seeing the Onc. for this reason, I know them, just Dan but I honestly thought he would be fine with it. He's so practical, he's starting to call me to see how I feel, I told himm I'm fine then we debated over my puter cuz I don't want a new one, so we decided when this one really goes I'll get it. Then Bob called last nite, I'm sure Dan didn't say anything. But he wants to put a hot tub outside my door. The Co. will pay for it and they'll put it in so it won't cost me anything. I was tempted but no way. Bob just thought I would feel better if I had one. I did say I want an inground pool or nothi ng. So nothing is on my agenda. They r so nice to me Dan knew I needed some new meds this week I told him that of course but that's it. He gave me a 500.00 bonus so I could not be strapped with meds and my GD's grad. party Chit who'd think when I was this age 3 of my best friends are young guys. Where were they when I was that age. LOL
My niece came over yesterday and Katie did too and I have to do all the phones now cu the guy in the office was having a baby yesterday. How nice for them but I'm not used to this anymore, so this should be interesting.
Lori I as so glad u gave us a word for word description, but ur not done yet u know, just keep on telling us exactly what's going on. And how long will this stay be??? Again tell us everything.
GRRRRRR my phone is going blah.

It was not a good nights sleep, as I knew nothing more. Jennifer called me this morning, I'll just put here what I put on FB. Her dad was able to spend the night, even had his own bed! But she did say I was a better care taker, she has to tell him exactly what to do! I am so tired and have to go to town and DH wants to see a movie.
Finally got to talk to Jennifer, it was a rough night for her (and me). She is doing well, in more pain than the last surgery. They re cut around her belly button and went up even higher, not sure why and she has a drain. She's been up walking and they may keep her another night.
-
Goldie- glad to hear she is doing okay. You sound exhausted.
I had abdominal surgery in 2012 right around the time of my bc diagnosis for a ruptuered appendix. I had a drain for the 8 days I was in house. They usually take that out before you leave, unlike when you have breast surgery and they go with you. Lots of fluid accumulation after things are taken out of any type. I hope you can get some rest. Can the movie wait?
-
Back to chemo this morning. Took longer than usual due to the pharmacy having trouble mixing up the Abraxane. There was what appeared to be a very young (20’s) girl next to me. She was alone, but sleeping so not ready for any talking. Her chemo was red so I assumed she was getting doxorubicin (red devil) and the Neulasta patch. Just sad to see someone so very young having to deal with all that goes along with any kind of cancer diagnosis. The whole situation has made me a bit “blue” this afternoon. Maybe a nap will help!
Goldie: Very glad your daughter’s surgery went according to plan. Sleeping in a hospital is really impossible. Sleeping while worrying is also impossible! Do keep us posted as we are all keeping your DD and yourself in our thoughts.
Cami: Please let us know how things are going with you also. Glad to see you have many people (mainly young men!) taking care of you. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
NM: Give Sadie love pats from me and you get some well deserved rest this weekend.
Still waiting to schedule the SBRT. I am hosting cards next week so I would rather not do it then, but will work with whatever they give me. Have some weekend trips planned for September and October. I love having something to look forward to. Tonight is steak night with a few glasses of merlot. Gotta live while you can
-
JCS - I agree that seeing young people go through cancer treatment is heartbreaking 💔
-
DOTD: Blue Moon Mango Wheat with a view. Great view of the Milky Way last night but my phones camera can’t capture it.
Tomorrow we go to my happy place, Balmorea state park 😀
