2005 ROCK-TOBER CHEMO GIRLS

No fooling Deb, it was in the shape of a wee tiny breast cancer ribbon. They called it a clip, so I asked if it looked like a staple, or a triangle, or what. So they had one, just to show people. It was in a clear box (only about an inch square) with a magnifying glass in the lid. It was a tiny little loop. Maybe a millimeter from end to end. So cool!
-
Glad the biop went well. When I had a core biopsy at dx time, they shot two of those in me to mark the tumors. I think mine were like bb's. But because I had to have a Mast...they are in a jar somewhere. LOL
Michele -
Busy, busy, busy! You have a nice wooded area...but I know you hate the clean-up! When are you going to start looking for a house? Our second story guest bedrooms/baths don't get used that often so I don't have to clean them very often. Because I'm working again I have the luxury of Kasha, she comes 2x a month and does all the wood floors, both first floor baths, etc. But I try to keep up with everything in between. Since bc dx I'm no longer a neat freak...just don't let the little things upset me anymore. My gardens are what I really need help with! It's a ton of work! This summer I may try to get a little help with them as well. And now I'm going to have a basement to clean! LOL Oh no what have I done!
Debbie -
I LOVE your quotes! You are so funny...when I read your posts, I read them with an English accent! LOL
------------------------------------
Hi Girls -
Hope everyone is doing well. Hope those of you that are feeling "under the weather" are on the mend! -
Good Morning.. Thanks Michele...helps to know I'm not alone. I wish we all could have switches and just turn off the cancer voices in us. I love the window in your picture. That's the kind of windows I wanted but they are American style and too expensive for us because our house is like a house of windows!
I think our house is about 3500 sq. feet including my studio. I guess we do have a big house..bigger than we need. I'd like to give it to the kids and build a smaller one in the lot below us but I don't think that will happen. We have the land but no money to build. I do love my studio but I don't need it...have thought of just making the studio into a studio apartment and moving my studio to our family room when the kids are gone. It's cozier and I wouldn't have to climb the stairs as I get older. I can see that I will have a problem with stairs since my back and leg are bad now. Before chemo I would run the stairs from the basement to the second floor with no problem. Now I can barely get up and down one flight. Today my toes were tingly. This is probably not a good sign but I'll be seeing my orthoped soon..if I ever make the appt!
I also love your quotes, Debbie. You are so full of life! Give me some of that!!!
Cindy..that is so cool! Really never heard of that. You are at Mayo, right? I'm going to look that up on their website. It's amazing what they do, isn't it? Am keeping benign thoughts for you! That's the most important.
Is Linda away this week? Haven't heard from her in a while.
Gotta go run errands now. We have a luncheon to go to at noon.
Have a good day everybody.. -
They sound cute Cindy - youshould ask for a couple so you could make ear rings!!
I guess a lot of sayings are universal , like 'as much use as a chocolate teapot' or ' shes as broad as she is wide' or ' you'll meet yourself going the otherway' ( or in pure Derbyshire - 'tha'll mit tha sen guin backards' . It strikes me as odd sometimes when things i take for granted arent in your everyday useage. One thing i find strange is 'Write already' , i had that on some American stationary as a child and have come across it a couple of times since. That just sounds weird!!
Where is Paula? Hope she hasnt fallen off of those rollerblades!!
And Linda , Mary , Cathy , Brenda - where are they all???? I guess they will come out of the woodwork eventually -
Some Spring Flowers to help those stuck in Winter...
-
As much use as a chocolate teapot?? I like THAT one! That's funny!
She's as broad as she is wide...that has been used in America, too.
Write, already...that means you'd better write back! We say it just like that in Hebrew, too.
To those in hiding...Come out, Come out, wherever you are... (from the Wizard of Oz, of course!). -
Cindy, I am hoping for nothing but B9 results. It sound's like they got it all which is good. My daughter's MIL had her sonogram and they said everything was fine with her. Thank goodness she is leaving for Florida this morning.
Michele, You sound like me. I know exactly what you mean. When you start one room it mushroom's. That happened to me when I started painting the woodwork.. It could go on forever if you let it. lol.....I have those wrinkles you are talking about by my mouth. They are weird aren't they? I swear they were caused from chemo.
Tracy I got that mastectomy petition in an e-mail and signed it. That is crazy.
Paula, Sorry you are still feeling bad. Hopefully those antibiotic's kick in soon.
Ravdeb, I know you don't want to dye your hair and I didn't either but when I looked in the mirror I just didn't know who that person was and it was a constant reminder of the chemo, BC, etc. Now that I did my hair back to the way it used to be I feel like I am the old me again. I can't explain it but I feel so much better now mentally.
Your flower's are beautiful. I can't wait until we can have flower's again. Snow, snow go away.
Laura, it sound's like you have my dream home. Our house is small but now that the kid's are gone it's OK, although I wouldn't mind just a little more room. -
Laura, Now I am worried about you going to Mexico. I just heard they had an earthquake....On the opposite coast but still...I'm just a worry-wart. I'm sure everything will be fine when you go.
-
Deb - Sometimes its said 'as much use as a chocolate fireguard' but guess there isnt much call for fire guards out there!!
One i like is ' he has a face only a mother could love'.
Just got back from a trip to Sheffield to a shop the kids wanted to go to. What a nightmare - each time i go i swear i will never go again. what with the fog , the city traffic , the multi lane roundabouts and the tram lines ( I just know they are going to get me and pull me down a tram only way!) AND it being FRiday the 13th , I am surprised i got back in one peice!
Gail - your hair looks great, i know what you mean about feeling you again. I think my hair has stopped curling and keep thinking about letting it grow - i just lose patience.
OK , got to go clean the grill pan while the kids are watching Dr Who and dont need the bathroom. I had super cool mini circular sinks put in the kitchen - now i have to scrub th eoven trays in the bath!!
Deb -
I really couldnt bungee - there is a real fear of hitting the ground! I abseiled when i was younger , and canoed but sorry , bungee no. Yo are a braver woman than me!
The flowers are lovely. When i get sorted i will post some too. -
Tracy - I have been wearing my day sleeve and glove at night instead of during the day. My PT told me to try it and see if it keeps things under control.... So far, I think it is. I am not really good at doing the massage though. Tonight is my last PT appointment and then I am on my own to take care of the LE. The therapy office is discontinuing my insurance.
Hey if you ladies know anyone that is looking for a career in massage - there is a real shortage of Physical Therapists or Massage Therapists that know LE massage - at least I had a really hard time finding one here in the Seattle area!
Today is my son's birthday - he is 30. GOSH I AM OLD!!!! Tomorrow is the Business Fair in our little town. It is lots of fun - all of the local businesses and service clubs have booths. I am going to man the Kiwanis booth with Dave but will also be soliciting teams and donations for the Relay for Life.
Sunday Dave is going to visit his family in Olympia - I could have gone to meet them, but instead welcome the chance to stay home alone and continue to work on unpacking and settling! Seems I never get much done when he is home....
I also get to have my dog for the day on Sunday! So we will be going to the park several times to play ball.
Hope you all have fun weekends planned!
Cindy - you are still in my thoughts & prayers!
I am going to go check airfare to Chicago - I need to get serious about making some plans for Auqust! -
Gail, good news about your mil...I chuckled reading your post - I wasn't sure if you meant thank goodness she's ok, or thank goodness she's leaving, lol
Cindy - chanting, B9, B9, B9!!
Debbie - love the expressions - glad you clarified, btw, I was trying to translate grill pan into something bathroom-y
As far as houses, it also depends where you are in the states. In Florida our house was 1/3 the size of our home in Indiana. So it gets a bit depressing when I think about moving back because now we're spoiled with our big house - couldn't afford it in Florida!! Looks like we may be staying in Indiana a bit longer than we originally thought and that's ok - I have been so happy here.
Going to the Y now...funny when the 4 y/o is pushing me out the door to go exercise - his best bud from across the street will be there too and they get to play... -
ravdeb -
The flowers are pretty! Thanks. Those mini ribbon clips sound adorable! LOL
Debbie -
What the heck is a grill pan?
Graycie -
Oh No! I didn't hear about that. Yikes...if that happens when we're there, we'll just get in a boat and float in the ocean...but then there would probably be a Tsunami! LOL If it happens, I hope I'm bombed on Tequila. LOL
Tracy -
Hi there...glad you're settling in. You're so "charitable"!
--------------------------------------
Okay, the mother hen that I am is wondering...where's the MIA's? Kelly is probably floating in her pool...Brenda's probably back at the casino sipping lemon drop martini's, our Worldly One is probably up in the air looking down on all of us, Linny - probably hanging out with the grandkids, TaDah is probably hunting down the furniture dude...and everyone else? -
Graycie -
The difference is amazing: a bottle of hair dye on the head and a fresh coat of paint on the walls! I always feel better after both!
RoseMarie -
That's great that your Y has child sitting! But it doesn't leave any room for excuses not to go! LOL -
Nah, I'm not hunting down Khoder (that's his name). He only owes me one piece which I owe him $500 on. After he and I go through the drama I give him a break before I get back on his foolish treadmill.
I'm finally seeing the end of this dreadful cold, living on theraflu for the past week. I went to the oncologist yesterday and they wouldn't draw blood from my foot so I said oh well, guess we won't be doing it today then. Shucks, $440 an hour for therapy, I'm not going through that again. And summer's coming?! No fat arms for me, just bare backs and halter tops.
I have to go to the hospital to let them do it there I guess. I'm glad my experience is of help to others. You have to stick up for yourself. Their convenience is not going to be the cause of my discomfort. When I say no arms, I mean no arms.
Michele, your room is the same color I had my bedroom painted. I found linens with the same color border and my bed is in crisp white with the peachy trim. Its quite cute.
I'm back watching that demon television. What a time killer. I have done absolutely nothing since I started back. Its a good thing I finished my sewing homework or I'd be scrambling to get it done in time for Sunday. This weekend I'm going to stay home in bed, sleeping and watching more tv. -
Yes..mini ribbon clips do sound cute!
Aren't grill pans broiler pans? We call the broiler here a grill (even in Hebrew).
Cindy...thinking only B9!
RoseMarie..same here as far as houses. Depends on where you live. Most Israelis live in apartments..shortage of space here. I live in the country and most of the houses here are new developments and we all have fairly big houses. Ours used to be the biggest but that has changed with more homes being built. I have no idea where they get their money to build, though. Today the land and building is really expensive. The land on our block is costs what it cost us to build our house close to 15 years ago. We would never be able to build this house today..way too costly.
Gail..you are probably right about the hair dying. I have thought about it.
At the luncheon I was at today, there was a woman sitting next to me that I didn't know and she asked me if I was an artist! I'm like..well..I like to play around with art but how did you know that? I guess I look like one! What does an artist look like? I told my dh it must be my white hair! She herself is an artist and interior designer.
Anyway..found it weird that she knew what I dabbled in.
At any rate..one of my past students who was a holy terror but extremely bright and I taught him when he was very young..1st grade maybe... is now a law student at Oxford! I was in shock when I saw him. And he sings! He sang at the luncheon! So, Tracy..I know that old feeling..I feel OLD! Happy Birthday to your 30 year old son!!! hmmmmmmmmmm...Amy is 30. Amy...I never thought about that but heck..you could be my daughter!!!! You'd be a nice daughter! -

Debbie said they're in the bathroom! ? Do you think it's possible that in the UK - all the ovens are in the bathrooms? OMG LOL -
No no no no !! I have to wash mine in the bath as my designer sinks are too small LOL !!
Come on - a grill tray is a grill tray - what the heck is a broiler?????????? I thought that was a type of chicken! OMG - I am going to have to learn American before i come! Who was it who said ' England and America are two countries separated by a common language' - they were so right!
The grill pan is the big tray that fits in your oven instead of a shelf with the rack insert inside which lets you grill rather than roast.
Think i will stick to teh barbecue - thats an international language!
Oven in the bathroom - a house we looked at to do up and rent out a few weeks ago was advertised as having kitchen/bathroom. We thought it was a misprint - no it really was a reno project - there was a bath squashed into the corner of the old kitchen ! Cosy!! -
OMG - ROFLMAO
-
I watched a movie, "Uptown Girls" and near the end of the movie, the grown up girl gets a studio apartment and the bathtub was in the kitchen!
-
You need the water-broiler so you don't have to do any scrubbing!!
-
Those have to be some BIG broiler pan's if you have to wash them in a bathtub.............lol.....I mean grill tray. Do you use it outside or inside Debbie?
I saw a house on HGTV they were trying to sell where there was a hot tub in the kitchen........very strange...... -
I am temporarily out of the woodwork to publicly thank Debbie for the yummy chocolate eggs. Sean was very impressed and amazed that someone was nice enough to do that! One day I will reciprocate...
-
hmmmmm...hot tub in a kitchen! Well, maybe that could be nice! If you're tired from cooking a large meal, you just hop in while everything is in the oven. LOL
Debbie -
Here's a good down south/southern American saying:
Well butter my butt & call me a biscuit, look who's here! LOL
TaDah -
R & R this weekend for you...good thing, you need it to zap that cold out of ya! Wouldn't it be nice if we had three arms! LOL
---------------------------
Hey there everyone!
Hope you're all doing well... -
How about "Happy as a clam in the sand where there ain't no diggin'!"
-
Cindy, I'm hoping for B9 4 U as well...
Kelly, here I am again, always the last one to notice: Is that a picture of you when you were a bit younger and are those two things in front of you your breasts? I am presently not wearing my glasses, but I'm feeling I'm in the ballpark. -
Brenda -
OMG - you are too funny! LOL
-------------------------------
Okay girls - the RKN' GOAT (although lately we call it the RTN' GOAT - LOL) left for it's trip to Transmission Land! The stock tranie wasn't suitable...so Julie's Towing picked it up. It was funny..."Julie" was about 5'2" tall! She got the Goat on the flat bed - no problem. Hooked up all the chains...quite impressive. As we watched the Goat leave, Roy said:
"throw rocks at it, it's a frickin' money pit!"
He-he!
GOING,
GOING,
GONE! -
No, LOL!! Brenda, it's just a pic that I thought was appropriate for the forum. They are melons, though!
-
I wish I had better news for you all, but the suspicious spot in my "good" breast is definitely cancer. We don't know if it's a recurrance of my original tumor or if it's a brand new primary.
I'm leaning towards having another mastectomy, but don't know if I want a second implant or if I want to dump the old implant and do a double DIEP. Do DIEPs go under the muscle like implants? Sigh.
One thing we *do* know is that the cancer is small, only about 6mm. So I may not need more chemo. Won't know about treatment options until we find out the hormone status.
I feel like I've been hit upside the head with a big floppy fish. Joel looks how I feel, only worse. It's been hard to tell people. I've been emailing people and then calling them after they've had a chance to stop crying.
I get some more tests next week and see the breast surgeon on Friday. Most of the time, I'm feeling OK and researching options, etc. But then a wave of "stomping and cussing" comes over me. I'll equalize with time, I'm sure.
Hate to bring you guys down. The good news is that it's small, surgery will take care of it, and I probably won't need chemo. And if I do need chemo, the rest of me is strong and healthy so I'll do fine.
(But this completely pisses me off!!!) She says, shrieking and stomping. -
Cindy - Cindy.
All of the comments I had stored in my head after reading th eabove posts have just gone. I feel completelyand utterly gomsmacked. What can i say???
It may or may not help for you to know that my friend , who i work with, had cancer twice - once each side. They never were sure if it was different or if it had occurred roughly at the time of the first, just been missed. She is now hunky dory and 8 years out
Well - now it has been found and is being dealt with. we have all got through this before , and will get you through it again. Just wish we were all closer and we could drop round and do the mundane stuff like pots and laundry etc to give you time to batten down the hatches and get yourself sorted.
Hugs
Debbie
