-

-
Hi Girls -
Just popping in to say hi! Dry wall dudes are here...
Hope you're all having a great day! -
For those that missed the interview this morning on Good Morning America with Marisa - the founder and president of bc. org, here's the link:
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=2975382 -
Ravdeb, my house is relatively quiet at this point in my life - only my 24 year old is home, and she takes care of herself, laundry, food, etc. I am less busy than before my b.c. diagnosis, because I am not doing volunteer work anymore (I used to do it for seniors, driving to appointments, going shopping, etc, but even before b.c. I wanted to stop, since I did not like driving if it was icy or snowy. This happened quite often and I could not cancel, the seniors were waiting. Also I drove a van, and they could not get in easily). So preparing Passover is easier in a way than it used to be, but far more hectic when everyone gets here, and people are sitting in the kitchen all day, waiting for the next meal!
As far as clothes, I have gained a lot of weight in my middle, nothing fits, and I hate shopping when the skirts are tight.
One friend of mine called me today to see how I felt about Elizabeth Edwards - she was the only one of my friends who thought to speak to me about it, and I appreciated it very much.
If you remember ladies I mentioned a lovely women I know who had a new primary after 8 years in the clear. She had chemo pre surgery since it was aggressive and large in the other breast, then mast. Mar. 7, and results were not great - numerous nodes positive. She was supportive during my chemo, she is a wonderful person.
Have a good weekend,Linda -
Where is everyone? Hope you're all too busy having a great weekend to check in here! LOL
Linny -
I am so very sorry about your friend. I don't know what more to say. -
LInda..I know you aren't on today but I'm so sorry about your friend. I get so angry and frustrated when I hear all this kind of news.
My house is full of kids and since I'll be kashering my kitchen earlier than I usually do, I will have some unhappy campers for a few days but....
I need new skirts too. I look in my closet and think..these skirts I should start wearing during the week. I need some new weekend attire. I will shop after Passover. (All projects have been pushed to after Passover!).
I drive elderly women to services (I know, Linda..you don't have that job!) and they need to climb into my van.
I've decided to drop some of my volunteer work and concentrate on my art. I can't do it all. My mind doesn't focus when there are too many responsibilities. But again..after Passover!
Amy..that sounds like fun! My cousin Amy who was visiting me this weekend is in NYC having some fun, too, before she returns to Chicago and classes.
Gail..good you aren't THAT bad! But I had a hot flash and had trouble sleeping again last night. But I seem to have perked up anyway.
That quote was under the signature of somebody I got an e-mail from. I'm not sure WHAT it means? It wasn't towards me. It was just a quote.
Elizabeth Edwards..seems she has more than just bone mets. I feel awful for her. She is in the public's view. It will not be an easy journey but she seems to be a strong woman. I don't know that much about her, though, being on this side of the world.
I will check out that link, Laura.
Have a good weekend everybody. -
Ravdeb, Where are you? I am used to waking up to you.......lol
Well, I see since I started this both Ravdeb and Laura have made an appearance....lol. I'm a little slow entering this post since my sister was chit chatting with me.
I probably won't be on much today or tomorrow because my grandson is coming over and he likes to play on the computer. Actually we are planning on taking him somewhere, maybe the movies, etc. I see it is pretty quite on here I guess everyone is busy.
Amy, I see you are off to NY so I hope you have fun.
Laura, I hope your dry wall dudes did a good job. I wish I had some dry wall dudes coming to my house. A little boring around here...lol
Linny, Glad to hear you are doing well but am sorry to hear about your friend.
Everyone, Have a good weekend. -
Good Morning Sisters,
It is spring and it is raining this morning and temps are suppose to be in the double digits for the next week. The rain will melt the remaining snow and soon we will see some green grass and SPRING FLOWERS!!
I watched the interview that Marissa did with Diane Sawyer, it is the link that was posted on our thread. Marissa rocks, I would love to have her as an oncologist. She is so positive, talks about new drugs for stage IV ladies and the possibility of seeing them live longer and longer productive lives after being diagnosed. She offers so much hope, it makes me brust with pride that she is the founder of this wonderful site! She also talks about the fear of reoccurance for all bc survivors, what a wonderful, wonderful, person she is.
Today is basement cleanup day, ooy ooy.LOL. It is the worst part of this whole process of putting our house up for sale, the junk that needs to go is incredible.
I had a really good sleep last night, still woke up twice but didnt open my peepers until 9:00 am.
Laura I do thank god everything day for bringing us together, he is not perfect by any means but a real sweetheart. He does his fair share of stuff around the house even though he works shifts but it makes it easier for both us working. We had a strong relationship before bc and its gotten rock solid since diagnosis. We will be together 18 years in July!
Is your drywall done? I just listened to Marissas link and she is amazing!!
Rosemarie did you and Cathy meet? Want all the details That is funny that you couldnt convince your husband to give Kelly a call for directions, what were you thinking most men would rather drive around in circles and still be lost.LOL. My hubby hates asking for directions, when we are really lost then he says oh crap, I should have taken that turn about ten minutes ago!!
Paula I totally agree with you, this is the place to share feelings and fears about bc. My really close friends dont get it and never will. I had dinner with one of them on Thursday and the conversation remained about everyday stuff.
Debbie444 what are you doing for excitement this weekend? Hopefully your helmet is close by!J
Linda sorry to hear the news about your friend.
Deb I am rolling on the floor laughing about your friends apple story, omg too funny!!
Gracyie enjoy your fish fry. I love gardening and plants, cant wait for spring flowers. Your hair looks wonderful, tell your inlaws to go jump in the lake if they make any comments! I am always insomnic thanks to menopause. If I didnt take my sleeping pill I would be awake all night!
Victoria what are trasteros?
Amy enjoy your NY city weekend. The chorus line sounds amazing. Have you seen Riverdance?
Hi to all my sisters, have a super weekend---we are going to be busy cleaning up!
Love
Michele -
Morning ladies! Here we go on the furniture rollercoaster again. I paid for the two pieces and they were supposed to be delivered last night, however, when I went by the shop to confirm that, a man told me he was out visiting a customer but his van is outside and I can smell his cigarette smoke in the back!!
I told him I didn't want the pieces until he fixed the finish to my liking. He neither called nor showed and I don't think it had anything to do with my request! Its his normal shenanigans! I don't even pay him any mind any more, I guess I'm used to it now.
I'm up making potato salad. Why? I have yet to figure aside from the fact that I like it!! I'm supposed to be at the mall, I need to get some tankinis from Old Navy to wear to my free water aerobics class. I had planned to start last week but I didn't buy the swimming cap they require.
I also need to make my weekly $100 donation at Target!! There's always something in there to get it out of my pocket!!
And I have a dinner date later, its restaurant week in Brooklyn so the world is out eating, myself included. Have a great weekend everyone, if you have nothing planned I'll take your fun quota and add it to mine!! -
You can't see if very well but I found this picture of my Mom and Dad and look what my mom has on..a Leopard coat. She is one of us..ha....Actually, she's the real Graycie. -
Michelle, I believe a trasteros is a piece of furniture that holds dishes? I think.
TaDah, you can take my fun quota and add it to yours. While my daughter has been out having fun, wouldn't you know I came down with some achy fevery chills type thing. I have been in bed by 6pm every night and then feel ok by morning but by 11am, I am sick again. I've left work early 2 days in a row!
Tonight I drive to my Dad's to spend the night and pick up my little sweetheart. -
Love the pic Graycie!!
-
Am waiting for my dh to finish typing some stuff and then we'll eat...
Michele..enjoy the warmer temps. Good luck with the basement. I need to do that big time. That's my studio. One day... Have many stories about this one friend..she and Debbie could try to top each other!
Tracy NY..have fun! Aerobics in the water sounds fun. My daughter and her boyfriend went to the health club to do laps and I thought..hmmmmmmm..maybe I should sign up and do laps, too. I doubt I will. Must get back to walking and add some other exercises. I hate the way I look...I look old. Good luck with the furniture man!
Gail..I see you found me. I have been really busy lately and will continue to be so I won't be on as much for a while. But, as you can see, I'm on again. But, I don't do all the stuff that I do during the week on Saturdays so I'm freer.
I watched Marissa on the video. She is terrific. I'm in agreement with you, Michele...I'd love to have her for my onc. Not that I don't have good oncologists. Just wish I had the same one all the time. Wonder who I'll see in May.... I have to say that the head of our breast care unit who is my official onc is interviewed on the news here, too, and in fact, since my diagnosis, I've seen her twice on the news..once on the same show I was interviewed on! -
Graycie -
That pic is great! I LOVE IT! Once again...seperated at birth! LOL -
Hi!
I just watched the video from GMA. Yes, I agree that Marisa is inspiring. Interesting that they did not mention she is also a BC survivor.
Rainy here today. I have tons of laundry to do so I'll probably make a couple dozen trips up and down the stairs today. If I ever get to build a house I will demand a laundry room next to the bathroom and bedrooms in the main part of the house. I know someone who has this arrangement and it sure is convenient. Oh well, I guess I could do with the exercise. It's just that our basement leaks (we live in a house built in the 1800s and the foundation is rocks and boulders, I kid you not!) so I feel like I have to wear rain shoes in the basement. We have our washer and dryer up on platforms off the cement floor. I'm wishing for that Calgon experience about now.
Have a happy weekend and to those who observe Passover I hope it is a wonderful and meaningful time for you.
Mary -
Gail..again we posted at the same time. You look like your dad??? Love the cheetah...that is amazing!
I didn't know that Marisa is a bc survivor. My official onc, the head of our breast care unit, is also a bc survivor..she had bc in both breasts at the same time and was diagnosed a year before me, I think.
thanks for the Passover wishes. It starts a week from Mon. night. Don't rush it! I have lots to do!!!
HOw is your friend doing, Mary? -
Hey Girls!!! Guess What????
THE MOVING IS DONE!!!!!! Wahoo! We finished it up this morning!
So, to celebrate, I am going to girl's night with 4 of my friends! I may have to spend the night if the martinis catch up with me!
Hope you are all having a good weekend! -
I went to a seder once. It was really neat. The tradition that Judaism brings is wonderful.
I was brought up catholic but one of my best friends was Jewish. My daughter and I attend christian services but while she has been with my dad, she has gone to the catholic church two times. They have a great pastor out there and he loves kids so she gets doted on before and after services. Dad said that during Communion time the priest came up to her knelt down and gave her a blessing since she couldn't take communion. She, of course, now loves that church. LOL -
tracy - marymelodi -
You both deserve a Calgon experience!
Yay! -
OMG - Calgon makes me laugh.
Started the weekend well. Collected my new glasses ( which i dont need but i have been working extra hours so treated myself) They are deep red Armani, and as Catherine says 'dead cool' and have bought the most beautiful beaded denim mules. They make me feel like a cross between Aladdin and a country and western singer!! Where i wwill wear them i am not sure ,but they were calling me - a bit like Tracey and the furniture!!
Took Mark to a cub scout 'do' today. He is a senior sixer now and its quite funny to see how much respect he gets from the other boys!! Catherine has decided that girl guides are boring and is joining scouts after Easter - she will be the only girl in the troup but isnt in the slightest bit put out!!
Graycie - good picture!! Did you scan it in?? Tracey - congrats on the move - raised my hooch in your honour
Hope Teryn comes back fully fit and pleased to see Mum
Debbie -
Debbie, she is no longer the pox queen and Dad says she has been having soooo much fun but she keeps asking what day I will get her. Now that she knows it's today, she is so excited. I am spending the night out there and she wants to go to the buffet together. They've been to the buffet two times today! You'd think she'd be a two ton gorilla but she isn't!!
-
Sorry to have missed your b-day, Mary-Anne! Belated wishes to you. Hope you had a great day!
-
Hi Brenda! Missed you! Are you rooming with Michele, Paula and me? Is Jill coming?
Debbie..enjoy the new glasses and mules. Those mules sound neat..I love beaded things. I love beads. I love shiny things. My daughter is embarrassed to be around me sometimes when we are shopping. I don't wear any shiny things...just love the look and wondering when I will buy stuff like that one day! I'm a pretty plain dresser.
I smile whenever I read your posts..sometimes they sound...just...so BRITISH! I have a British friend here but his British English is watered down because he has been living here so long...kinda like my American English.
Kelly..I've been to mass before. I used to go with my Catholic girlfriends to midnight mass in college. I knew the people in the Newman Center on campus and even sang in their coffee house once. I've also celebrated Easter with my close college friend who is Catholic. It's a nice holiday! -
Happy Birthday to you, Tracy! What a gift..to be done with your move! Enjoy, relax, have a ball with your friends!
-
Happy Birthday Tracey!! I am sure delightful Dave will treat you as you so rightly deserve.
Not sure why my posts sound British, but hope you have a simply spiffing day old bean.
Debbie -
You should wear a Sunscreen. We use a F20 - even over here!
-
Tracy, happy birthday.
TaDah, I could use your decorating skills. I needed a new fridge and the cabinets in my kitchen are white (house built in 93, we moved in in 2001) so I got a white fridge a couple of weeks ago, thinking stainless steel would not match. Unfortunately the cupboards being from 93 have a very yellowish tinge, which now looks much starker next to the big bright white fridge. And my husband had told me to get stainless, but I didn't listen, thinking "what does he know" - oops.
Linda -
H A P P Y
B I R T H D A Y
T R A C Y!
You rock! -
V..hope all your tests results and edema work themselves out... You DO know what I say about it all...Cleaning is BAD for human beings!!!! My prescription would be to not clean and hire a full time cleaning person!! When I would tell my mom that if I bent a certain way it would hurt, she'd tell me to stop doing it! So, I'm just passing on my mom's advice
I use 15 sunscreen on my face every day. It still tans but I haven't burned on my face in years.
I avoid sunscreen on the rest of my body mostly because most of my body is never exposed to the sun except my arms and face...and my feet!
Linda..I got the stainless steel door this time, but I had a white fridge that we bought in the States 20 years ago along with a white stove top (I had written top stove and couldn't figure out why that sounded funny!) and black doors. I thought I was going to have a bright white kitchen. Well, I did have one at the very beginning but when we built our house, I chose cream and earth tones for the first floor and our kitchen, dining room and living room are all opened onto each other so my white appliances have never looked good in the kitchen. Now the stainless steel doors are so non-noticeable that I forget this huge thing is there! The top of the stove isn't so bad that it's white. That will eventually get replaced as it's dying a slow death. We have replaced parts a few times.
My dh had also said to get the stainless. But..it shows all the finger marks and you have to be careful how you clean it. The white one will be easier to keep looking clean.
V..I ate at the Sweet Tomatoes when I was in Chicago last summer. I had never eaten at one of those. That was fun.
Okay..I am on to my next project. Passover talks about letting the slaves go free but forgets that it enslaves the women into the act of cleaning and cooking!!!! This is really not my favorite holiday. Why is it that when I have so much to clean, I suddenly get a million art ideas into my head?? Is this a form of avoidance or what???
The next holiday coming up is really nice..especially in Israel. Will talk about that as it approaches. Now I must go do slave labor...
