Happy Birthday Mary Anne - hope its a good one!!

Laura - what is drywall???????? What do you do with it????? Arent all walls dry???
And calgon - now here that something you put in your washer to stop limescale " Washing machines live longer with calgon" Guess thats not what you are on about!! I hope you realise that we will all be expecting a guided tour of this basement when its done.
While we are on, whats a vanity??

Michelle, are all of the improvements necessary?? Will you get th emoney back or will it just make it easier to sell? I guess you have to pick something that will appeal to everyone rather than personal taste?? It see,s hard that you will never get the benefit yourself, but thats what happened to us. Did the last one up, it sold for more than one in that area ever had done before and we moved into a70s revival museum!! At least we didnt pay for someone elses taste . I will relish ripping out my flowery bath and sink ( in tasteful yellow and mustartd - hmm nice!) I am trying to talk Rog into one of those sinks that looks like a bowl just sat on a shelf - will see where i get to!!
Rosemarie - I am glad things are going well - perhaps its Spring that doing it!

Mary - what can i say. I guess its nice for th efamily to realise that they are surrounded by so much love, but love doesnt make things better. Its hard, I am glad you are theer to represent us.
I know have to climb into the loft to get my nephews birthday present that i put away. If i am not here tomorrow it all went horribly wrong and i am in casualty!!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY ANNE......

Laura, Love your new avatar. You are so pretty.

Will write more later. The sun is shinning so I thought I would do some cleaning since my dh went out with his friends. Thank goodness (just kidding) I have to keep going because if I stop I will get nothing done....

    Happy Birthday MaryAnne!!

Little Girl is off with her granddad today .... she still has the pox so no day care for her ... she is happy. He picked her up yesterday and they went to a buffet! I couldn't believe it! I told him that she had c.p. but I also told him that unless someone touched her sores (which are not on her face anymore but only on her torso) or if she coughed on them (which she isn't even coughing) that she was not really contagious. My fault! But YUMMY ... she was so excited she had all her favorites and no salad! She said she even had 2 desserts!! So they went again for dinner!!!!!!!!

She can't wait til she can go to the buffet again!

Work is going to be crazy busy this next month. One of the guys in my department is retiring and so rather than rush to hire someone, me and the other guy are picking up the extra time (few hours here and there) and have chosen to go without the help and pick up the extra money as well. That is good since my company rarely lets people go so whoever we hire will be there for a long time!!

    ----------
Mary, so sorry about your friend. I hope she comes out of this. The cancer sounds a little like bile duct cancer which is a spidery type cancer so it cannot really be 'taken out' like a lump can.

Rosemarie ... I know meltdowns are hard but I did read that if children are behaving outside of the home and having the tantrums at home with you ... well that means they feel safe at home to reveal their true feelings. When they are out, they are stressed to behave, do their job of behaving well and then like us, relax at home and sometimes become emotionally unglued. At least she feels she can do this without threat.

Debbie, drywall is sheetrock. It's the stuff that goes over the frame, gets taped and then you paint over it. You still have a lot of renovations left!! You need steel toed work boots and a hard hat!

Michelle, good luck with your renos.

    Laura, hope it's quieter today.

Amy .... I would order a cheetah sleeve! I would not want the skin colored one either!! How is hubby?

V --- Have a great day. You deserve a break from this. Reach to life today.

Graycie, have fun cleaning. I just got done cleaning my house this morning. Little Girl is gone so I can whoosh thru the house!

    Everyone, have a wonderful day.

Thanks Guys for all the Birthday wishes! I had another great sleep, hardly feel an ache today. Thanks to Elavil. LOL.

Underbooked the office today so am home today at noon. I made myself a delicious sandwich and am treating myself to some Lays ripple chips. The house is peaceful as kids at school. I feel so good I think I'll clean for an hour after I catch up here. Life is good.

Michelle, all the reno shows concentrate on kitchen and bathrooms so I am sure you will add value at the end of the day, and if you don't sell instantly you will get to enjoy it.

Rosemarie, Patrick is enjoying the Special Olympics stuff. Have you considered this for Kiersten, she might excel at some sport. There are a lot of different ones and it is great for socialization and maybe someday some really cool trips. Patrick is so different developmentally normal peers that is nice for him to see others who have challenges too.

Debbie, hope you have survived your trip to the loft...

Laura, you are renovating too? Quite a mess I guess. I need a new roof this year so will join your anst in the summer.

I am glad your BIL is staying grounde with his problem. Testicular cancer has a high rate of cure so I wish him the best .

Paula, I have my angry times too but mostly I am scared for my children, if only they were older... but surely i will be OK and there is no problem anyway.

So glad to hear the young girls family is trying to cope with prayer Mary. When I was diagnosed many prayed for me and it made me feel better and more at peace. Did you finish her socks?

Amy, thanks for the links. I am getting my exercise 2-3 times/ week . It helps my fitness and my head ,it is great to see it helps with BC too. Did you infect your Family? I hope not...

Victoria, they canceled my MRI(for the third time). It is now two months since it was due. The radiologist hopes to hsve the problem sorted soon. There are only three machines in our province, the next closest one is two hours away and they JUST got it, so don't want to risk inexperience again. I'll wait, but am getting a little inpatient.

So Graycie, looks loke we'll clean together. I ahve two Bathrooms and the kitchen floor on my list.

    Fists up!

Quickly, because I am at work. The message I got from my friends is that their daughter is doing better. Apparently, she went into shock while having the tests. They are keeping her sedated for a while longer. They are here at the hospital where I work so I think I will walk over on my lunch in 20 minutes and see how my friend, the mom, is doing. Thanks for all your kind and comforting words. Tell you more later,

My office was burgled yesterday which was a bit of a bummer. On the plus side I got a $3500 tax refund deposit today!! All I have to say is E-file!! I had them sent last Wednesday and the money was in my account yesterday, I didn't even know it!!

Can you hear the birds chirping in the mornings? Isn't it precious?!!

    Graycie - Thanks!

    Mary-Anne -
Yes, we have a walk out basement, so we wanted to finish it a couple of years ago, but then I was dx'd so we put it on hold. When you have your roof done...plan to NOT be there if you can. IT IS VERY NOISY! You may want to send Cola to Doggie Day Camp for the duration. LOL

    Debbie -

LOL - Dry wall is also called sheet rock I don't know where the word "dry" comes from...it's what the walls are made of - across the pond by you, I think you may have plaster walls?

This is what a vanity is:
    image

Over here...Calgon...is a bath powder for use in bubble baths. Years ago there was a famous commercial that said: Calgon...Take Me Away! I say that all the time when stressed out!
    image

I think what you are referring to is called a Vessel Sink? They're cool! But one of these would have put me over budget - (I hate that nasty 6 letter word - LOL)!

    Keep us posted re: BIL!

    TaDah -

Tadah, boy you are lucky. We waited to have our taxes done because we thought we were going to have to pay but, it turned out we actually got money back this year.........not as much as you but it was a nice surprise.

Michele, Your kitchen sound's like it is going to be nice. I hope you get a kitchen just as nice in your new house.

Cathy. I agree with Michele. Your lifestyle make's me tired just hearing about it.
Tracy, your another one that makes me tired with all the moving you are doing.

Debbie, you sound like me......I can't tell you how many carpet's I pulled up in my lifetime, plus put down kitchen floors and carpeting, etc. We used to do a lot of the work ourselves to save money. I have no idea why they call drywall, drywall..but I have helped with that too.....I think another word for it is plasterboard.

Deb, Glad you are having a good time with your cousin.

    Rosemarie, Good new's about Kiersten.

    Maryanne.........You can't clean on your birthday....lol

Laura, I need a little of that calgon......

Graycie, I didn't clean on my birthday. I did get ready to do it , then I thought, what are you doing cleaning on your birthday?. LOL. So instead, I drank two large glasses or red wine and relaxed. The kids bought a carrot cake, lit the candles and sang to me--it is hard to believe sometimes that they are old enough to do all that.

Cathy, hope the SSRI makes you feel better. Some days I feel I need them, then I get a good sleep and snap out of it.Nothing worse than feeling low...

Tadah, congrats on the refund. Knowing you, it is already spent! Crystal or china or something nice. Afraid to do my taxes as not sure I saved enough. Soon though.

Laura, thanks for the advice on Cola, she is very relaxed , generally. She would probably sleep through it.

I am the official painter in my house Debbie, have never hired out for that. My husband can tile and do other stuff(when he is here). My kitchen is stuck in the 80's-oak cabinets and pot lights. I still like it though.

Thanks for the cookie V it was delicious.

    Fists up!

Hope I'm not boring you with these...

Here's the end of the crane - hoisting the slabs of drywall. I am truly fascinated by the whole process. When our house was being built - I was blown away by the skills of so many people involved:

    image

I HAD TO SHARE THIS ONE! OMG - I told my Contractor..."I love the insulation! It's my favorite color! and it looks like cotton candy"...I'm convinced, by the look on his face, that he thinks I'm a housebound - lady of leisure with way too much time on my hands - NOT! LOL (Just kidding...he is actually the dude that built our house! I love him and his FAB levels of efficiency and productivity and perfectionism.) Unfortunately, dry wall will soon cover it up! (If the dry wall dudes ever show up! LOL)

Almost missed wishing you a Happy Birthday Mary-Anne. Now someone who can find joy in Lay’s ripple chips and an hour of house cleaning has her attitude in the right place. A good night’s sleep doesn’t hurt either. I hope you continue to enjoy your special day and the first day of spring too! (Good grief, I wrote this before I read your last post) Glad it was wine, carrot cake and no cleaning!!!! Truly laughing out loud.

I have gone from winter to summer in just over a day and a half. Louisville is beautiful. Only problem is I’ll have to go back home on Sunday. Maybe it will have warmed up there too by then and in the meantime I’m soaking it up.

Michele and Gail and Mary-Anne–the antidepressant she rx’d was Lexapro-but it’s not for depression-just to help me perhaps to occasionally stay on task and finish what I start.

RoseMarie-–I was in Indianapolis late last night (after driving 900 miles) I saw your post early this morning and was tempted to call you but thought you might be getting children ready for school. I go home Sunday and won’t be in such a hurry to get there. Maybe we could meet for breakfast? Early Lunch? Pm me if it might work out. It’s o.k. if it doesn’t too.

OK I’m posting this. I’m finishing my task even though I haven’t talked to everyone I wanted to. Tomorrow is another day. Just know that I love you all and am praying for some and just having good thoughts about others. You can decide what you want it to be.

    Good night.

We finalized everything for our kitchen installation today and paid for it all. Everything is now on order. We don’t have an installation date but that will be done closer to when the things that are on order come in, within a few weeks. So if everything goes according to plan, we will have our new kitchen in by 2-3 week of April.

We also decided to replace the trim around our dining room walls and the dark gray waincosting that is on their with sometime light to brighten up the room.

Rosemarie – oh I hope that we sell our house the first day, that would be a true miracle. We have a country property with ½ acre so it is a little harder to sell, most people want a city property , although we are less than a 1 km from town. We don’t have garbage pickup, no cable tv (satellite), oil furnace (no gas lines run out here, propane other option), our home is located on a busy two lane highway, good for access to major throughfares but some people don’t like that, also railway tracks across the highway and well water (which is better for you anyway). We have been told that country property sales only account for 25% of the market, which isn’t very high. We shall see, fingers crossed, hopefully our efforts will pay off.

Debbie444 – yes the improvements are necessary to sell the house, the existing cupboards look like crap and really need to be updated. We actually had our home for sale for a short period of time just before I was diagnosed in Oct 05. We got feedback from some of our showings and many said that they didn’t want to have to sink money into the kitchen, loved the lot (it is really pretty especially when all the maple trees are full).
I saw these sinks are Home Depot where we are getting our kitchen from and they looked really cool –they looked like a huge glass mixing bowl that was really colourful and the cost was outrageous. I can so relate to the funny colours in older bathrooms. Our downstairs bathroom had these little small green tiles on the walls (light green), it looked like the sixty’s. Our living room had three different colour wallpapers in one room!
You made me chuckle about getting out your nephews gift, please be careful, we do want to get the opportunity to meet you first in August.LOL.

Victoria – what a lovely gift to cherish, in time that statue will make you smile and remember the kind man your priest was in life.

Kelly – Teryn seems to have enjoyed her sense of freedom from being ill and able to have all her favourite “bad foods” including desert. She was probably grinning ear to ear eating her desert. Your boss must have a lot of faith in your talent to have you take up the slack in the short term. It does give you some extra money which is good, but don’t overwork yourself. Is the turnover in your company low? Ours is extremely low in the office and the plant we have a lot of long term employees like 20 plus years. The moral is good especially in the office and people generally work well together. It is a very laid back atmosphere but people know what their jobs are and need to get them done still.
I will need more than luck on the renos, patience is also in order which I don’t seem to have a lot of these days. Having a dishwasher is what we are most looking forward to.

Maryanne – glad to hear that your birthday has been great. I love homemade cakes, have already placed the order with Mom today for my birthday in May. My favourite, her homemade carrot cake with cream cheese icing, yummy! It must be so frustrating waiting for trained people to run the MRI’s. I have been to Nova Scotia and know what some of the health care issues are. I have also heard that PEI has similar problems. Is it because of the size of the provinces or just lack of federal funding and not enough trained specialists to run the equipment? Hopefully you get your MRI soon to take some worry away.

TracyNy – I wish I was getting a tax refund I have to pay almost $400 as my disability provider didn’t take off enough tax when I was off on sick leave for almost 11 months. My hubby should be getting some back so will have to work on that one this weekend.
Do you have the money earmarked for anything? More new furniture, purses or some new outfits? Yes I have heard the birds chirping, miss them in the winter time.

Paula – the days are getting longer here now due to daylight savings time, it is actually now light until around 7:30 pm.

Graycie – that would be nice to get as nice of a kitchen in our new house. We were looking at new fridges and stoves last night, the stainless ones. Some of them are soooo nice but pretty pricy.

Laura – your backyard looks so pictureous. Did you take before and after pictures of the basement just for fun.

Amy – are you feeling better?

    Have a good evening ladies.

    Big hugs and love
    Michele

OK, I finally got in to the mammography department and they took a lot of films. I should hear something this week. I sure wish I knew what to look for as I was able to see the films for myself. Going to keep my fingers crossed.

Michelle, I am the head of my department .... so normally I get paid a percentage of the profits of my department and the other guys get a lesser percentage. Me and my #2 guy will split the #3 guy's share and that's the terrific news ... it's not really going to be a lot of work since the retiring guy was someone we wanted out anyway, like I said, it's a few hours here and there and then being by myself 2 days a week but I've done it a zillion times. Thankfully, treatment is over.

Cathy, travel safely. Nice to see you here.

Paula, have you ever gathered leaves at autumn and just scattered them around for a table setting ... It's kinda fun, we like to do that when our tree loses its leaves.

And yes, Teryn is having a ball in Palm Springs: swimming and another buffet today! I told my dad that she needs to eat healthy and he said that was my job and he had a rock in his shoe and had to go!! (That's his cute customary way to end a conversation and it always makes me laugh .... like when I asked him if he was married and he said,"I have a rock in my shoe, I have to go." ....... Damn that man, he was in Italy and I couldn't strangle him!

Off to work again but thought I would check-in to see if there is anything new. Laura, I love your window's and the insulation is "pretty in pink"..(I'm thinking of that movie, ha ha)

Kelly, Sound's like Teryn is having a ball with your Dad. I remember when I had the CP my father told me (he was a Physician) that once they scab over you are no longer contagious. It's before you break out with the rash is when you are contagious.

Debbie, I asked my husband, Mr. Construction, what is another word for dry wall and he said gypsum board.

I guess I better run and get ready...

I hope everyone has an enjoyable day.

Cathy - YES! I would love to meet - I'll pm you!
Michele - keeping my fingers crossed for you!
TracyNy - that's great news! We're like Gail, we've waited till the last minute fearing the worst! It's actually on my to-do list to buy tax software today.
Kelly - Teryn is busy making memories! How fun is that?!!
Mary Anne - I'm going to look into the Special Olympics for Kiersten. I got on the web site for our county yesterday - I think she would have fun with swimming too.

I have my appt. with the genetics counselor/dr (?) today. I hope my results come back quickly as my onc. appt. is April 24. Did anyone have problems getting insurance to pay for the genetic testing?

Ok - time for one more cup of coffee...

did you guys see in the news that John Edwards is going to make an annoucement about his wife's health today? The news said she had a follow-up to some test she had on Monday. If it's nothing, would they hold a press conference? I really hope she didn't have a recurrence. She's a stage 3er like me and almost 3 years out! *&*&^%$ CANCER!

    Hi Everyone!

Well, the moving is coming to a close! I am hoping to have all of the boxes out of the house by Saturday morning! Dave has a crew of friends helping with the furniture today (I am only keeping 3 pieces of furniture). I have some friends coming Sat morning to help me dismantle a desk that I am going to put on Craig's list and to take down some pics that are hanging up high.

I will be SO GLAD to be done with it! Then I can get on with everything else!

Dave is healing well, but still on crutches for probably another several weeks. The good news is that the infection is gone and the wound is healing up.

Cathy & Rosemarie - how exciting that you are getting to meet!!!! Rosemarie you will love Cathy, she is such a sweetie! I didn't want to leave her when we got to spend some time together!

I am at work and have a bunch to do, but I can't start my day without checking in on all of you. I am so glad that I have you! I can't wait until August!!

    Have a good day everyone!

MARY ANNE...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I'm so sorry I missed it yesterday.

Yesterday was so looooooooooooooong and not a minute at the computer cuz my cousin and her friend were on it and then we had birthday cake and we were all up talking, dh came home from overseas and we didn't end the night til after midnight! I was almost in tears (no...I think I WAS in tears) when my dh read the mail and he said I need to have my car tuned and tested today. Meant I was to get up at the crack of dawn to be the first one in the shop. I was like...I can't do this. I'm so tired I could drop. He told me after my head was on the pillow that he'd take care of it and I should just sleep.

I was busy with my cousin all morning but she and her friend should be in Tel Aviv meeting up with a friend and they fly home tonight. The strike is over.

I will write later..must go on the run again...
    I'm pretty overwhelmed.

I got my bone density results back but I won't be seeing my orthoped for a while. I still need more x-rays on my spine before I see him and I have no time right now.

But, I had my neck, spine, hip/thigh and arm scanned.

I got 3 different results. The one in the neck/hip group was on the border between osteopenia and osteoporosis and the other ones were okay..no disease.

What does that mean? That in those two areas I have a better chance of getting osteoporosis than in the other areas? I can have osteoporosis in my neck but not in my leg bone, for example? Does it mean my neck could break more easily? GEEEZ..I could live with a hip break, leg break, etc break..but a neck break? back break? OMG...This is literally a pain in the neck. As it is I believe I have a herniated disk in my neck...my neck and arm hurt and it lit up on the bone scan.

Help please. Not sure how good my ortho is anyway. What kinds of questions should I ask him once i see him (which will be next month).

Ravdeb--I think the types of bone breaks common with osteoporosis are things like stress fractures. And that it's very common for women to get stress fractures in their necks and upper back. Hence the dowager's hump. (Which I've started to develop, even though I don't think I've got osteoporosis. I get tested in a few months. Ugh.)

So it's not like you'll break your neck and be paralyzed. Or at least I don't think that's how it would go!

dEBBIE, I was told I also have osteopenia so I have to take 1500mg of calcium and 800mg of Vit D along with a multi-vitamin.

I just read about Mrs. Edwards, her cancer is back. The idiot husband said it was confined to the bone and it's completely treatable. Hello!!??? That means mets and eventually she will succumb to this. Why in the world would he be so blase about this???

He's a politician...he needs to say that so the public won't be concerned with his dealings with his wife's illness. That's all. He knows exactly what it is, I'm sure.

I'm sure that I'll need to get on the calcium stuff. That's why I had this done...so that a doctor would tell me how much calcium and so on I need.

So, Cindy...I won't get a broken neck but just some odd lumpy thing back there? How fun is that???
