To you girls with the compression sleeve. Do you think I should look into getting one. I am wondering what will happen if I fly. I had 23 lymph nodes removed and sometimes my arm does feel a little swollen. Still waiting for the swelling in the breast to go down. Somehow I feel that is never going to happen and it is really making me mad.
I hope I don't jinx you but be aware that you can get LE in the chest area. I would recommend getting an assessment from a therapist, maybe that's why you are still swollen. -

Tracy NY..I just did some shopping and ended up with nothing but a bulletin board, 2 cans of tuna and a roll to munch on the way home cuz I was so frustrated and one place I was in has a bakery with the best breads..all fresh. I obviously do NOT know how to shop.
Not how, where!! If you shop in the grocery store of course you'll come out with food!! I love things, all kinds of things, and I buy things that make me smile and give me pleasure. A good crusty roll and some tuna can do it for me on a good day too!
Lord, I just ran into the furniture man in the street. Bum! He just came back from visiting his mother in Lebanon. He has a beatiful chest of drawers in the shop he'll give me for $450. I'm such a glutton for punishment! -
TaDah -
You and that furniture man! LOL Too funny...hurry and buy it before he gets into another drunken binge! -
OMG - I have to vent...I've been sitting here at the computer designing all day while my beloved Buddy Love sleeps in his bed next to me.
HE HAS BEEN SNORING - NON STOP - ALL AFTERNOON! Help! LOL It's amazing for such a small dog...I gently shook him a few times...but he goes right back to it! I don't think a clothespin on his little nose would work! Arghhh...OMG now he's grunting too! LOL -
Funny Tadah....When I first started reading a bout the furniture man I thought you meant he had a beautiful chest....Like in "he was HOT"..lol...I thought maybe you were drunk this time.....HAAAAAA.
You better get your own truck and save yourself the aggravation.
I did ask about all the swelling and they keep fluffing me off. I will be more persistant next time. -
awwwwwww, Little buddy love, he must be tired. As you can see I'm not doing much.......lol...Is everyone getting sick of looking at me?? I sure am....Every time I get on here I see my face staring at me....lol...I guess it is time to take a break.
-
you can also get lymphadema in your boob. my friend has it. random place, but it happens.
is anyone into college basketball and march madness or am i alone in this obsession? -
Girls,
I am home, I have been to work and we moved our offices so we can tear down our building so I have been swamped organizing my office and trying to conduct business at the same time. But it's done now!
Vacation was wonderful!!! Teryn is a speed demon racing down the hills and of course, I spent too much money and had so much fun. I will have pics but didn't bring my digital so have to do it the old fashioned way and get them developed. I will see if I can post the links to the professional shots we had taken.
I've tried to catch up on the posts but just can't .... I did read about your friend, Mary, so sad, so sad. And great news dEBBIE, about your friend.
Love you all,
Kelly -
-
Debbie..glad you're feeling better about the reunion. I missed your post..it must have gone up when mine did back on the other page. And..that is so kind of your dad to think of us all here.
Kelly..Welcome Back! Glad you had a good time... seems you had a REALLY good time..that is quite an avatar!
The pictures are beautiful! Teryn looks so cute! And you look great!
Tracy NY...of course I'll buy food in the grocery, which is where I ended up after I couldn't find what I was looking for! So...are you going for the new chest? (you know what I mean! ) I was trying to find lots of things...new tablecloths for one. Only found ugly ones. I have a new one at home..exactly what I need but I need another one since I will have two tables up at one time and now I can't find one like the one I already have. So, I'm frustrated. That wasn't the only thing I couldn't find!
But tuna and rolls..that will always be there!!!
Gail..try Kelly's avatar! And do get the swelling checked out. There are ways of getting rid of it. Mary had that and the pt massages helped her.
Casey snores, too. -
Yes, we had a great time, but one of our souvenirs was some Louisiana germs. So I've been fighting a bad cold, complete with laryngitis, which was a nightmare for chatty me!
Gotta run to work, but will try to post a funny photo later.
--Cindy -
Hey Cindy..happy to see you back. Sorry you got sick though.
Feel better! -
Kelly -
I still see your old avatar...I guess I'll need to re-boot. The photos are great! You and Teryn should enter a mother/daughter beauty pageant!
Michele -
Where are you? -
OMG...
Kelly - your new avatar just popped up! LOL Maybe my new prosths should be that size! LOL -
Kelly, I still see your old avatar too...I did see the pictures though. Teryn should be a little model. She is a natural. Glad you had fun.
Cindy sorry you are sick especially on your vacation. I hope you feel better soon.
Michele, Since you like movies did you see "The Holiday" with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet? I rented it last night. It was really cute....
Woke up late this morning so I better get to work. Will post more later. -
OK, here I am at a place that makes most of the Mardi Gras floats. It was a pretty cheesy tour, but we *did* get to play dress up!
-
OMG, it worked! LOL
Here's my poor husband after I slapped that feathered hat on *his* head! -
Kelly - LOL Love the Avatar! Glad you are back!
Cindy good to see you back too!
I have been feeling the lymphedema a lot under my arm in the arm pit area. Some days it feels like I have an apple under my arm! I get it on the side of my boob too. In fact those two places bother me more than my arm. It comes and goes. I see the PT again on the 23rd, not sure when I go to get fitted for my sleeve, though.
TracyNY - I can't wait to do some shopping with you. I think we need to plan some time in the city so that you can show us all how it is done!
I am still moving - UGH, will it EVER END???
Love you all! Have a good day! -
Cindy..I love it!! The pics are great! I love that you both had so much fun and it shows!!! YES!!
Tracy..sorry about the "apple under the arm". I hope you get relief from that soon. I guess I'm just really lucky. I don't have any of that though my boob has always been sore since the surgery and I guess rads didn't help. But there is no swelling really. That boob seems fuller than my other one but I think it's the way it got lifted a touch in the front and they moved stuff around in there so it would fill out since they took a handful of stuff out. Seems it did fill out! -
Girls, girls . . . .
I did have swelling in my breast after the radiation. Yes, you can get lymphadema in the breast and torso. If you had lumpectomy and SNB the scarring from either or both can block the lymph drainage from the breast / chest area even though only a few nodes were removed.
When I had the physical therapy treatment ther softened and stretched the scar tissue and opened the lymph channels. The lymph system is just under the skin so scarring affects it. They were also trying to "teach" my system to use other pathways for the drainage. They also taught me some massage techniques to help the fluids drain away from the underarm area. If I do not do the massage I can get aching even now. Lymph moves by stimulation from muscular movements or massage. It's not like the circulatory system. You have to deliberately move it if it's not going along by itself. They also recommended exercise (naturally) as a help . . . muscles working, stimulates fluids to move along in the lymph system. I also believe, as in everything else, water, water, water is a big help. I'm always trying to drink enough. I think it must help flush the lymph fluids.
My insurance covered the treatment because it was for effects related to my cancer care. I was referred by the radiation oncology team, but I'm sure a primary care or medical oncologist can make the referral to the physical therapist. Just be sure the send you to someone who specializes in lymphedema treatment. Besides massage and other techniques, you can also be fitted for special compression bras, just like the compression sleeves, to help keep the fluid from building up. I didn't get one, but I know I could if I needed it. I am satisfied for now that the supportive bras I've worn for years are doing a good job. those bras can be covered by insurance, like the sleeves, again as a part of your cancer care.
No offense to anyone, but tell them this is a treatment you want. Don't ask if you can have it, DEMAND it. Tell them you want a consultation by a physical therapist that treats lymphedema. Tell them you do not accept that your aching is just "normal". Pain is not normal. And, lymphedema does not clear up by itself and can, if not treated, lead to infection that can be very scary. A BC sister I know here in Rochester, spent 3 weeks in the hospital after Christmas because her lymphedema got out of hand and developed into cellulitis. She was very, very sick. Her life was threatened by the infection. She only had lumpectomy and SNB, so you see, it can happen.
It might seem funny to someone to do breast massage but the aching is nothing to laugh about. It's pretty easy and I just do it when watching TV at the end of the day or sometimes in the morning when I'm looking at the news to see the weather report.
That's my soapbox message for the day. Sorry. Hope no one is offended. I just hate to think of any of you in pain or discomfort when I believe there is a simple solution. It makes me irritated that doctors and nurses do not offer this kind of consultation to BC patients on a routine basis.
Wishing you well,
Mary -
Good Afternoon Ladies,
It looks like our snow is gone for this year, hopefully as we lost a lot over the past few days due to the warmer temps. Tonight the temps are going to drop again down to -8 celcius.
We are annoyed at our contractor right now for our kitchen argh why do these people always operate this way. We had new laminate put in our upstairs hallway a few years ago and the same thing, hurry up and wait .
We went to our appt last Saturday at the Home Depot where our stuff is being bought and went over all the specs for our kitchen design, inquired about the cost for the labour to put in our backsplash and to put a skim coat on the walls to smooth them down nicely. Well that was Saturday and all the request for information had been sent to the contractor then put as of yesterday he hasnt contacted the store. So frustrating as we want to get moving on getting the cabinets ordered and built so that we can put our house on the market in April.
Our contact at Home Depot is in today at 2:00 pm so hopefully she was able to get an answer from the contractor yesterday.
Victoria did you get an answer yet on your labs?
Laura Im here and seem to be racing around busy, busy these days with work and preparing the house for sale. Yes I do remember asking if anyone called you Dear Laura.LOL. My dogs both snore, the older one more than the puppy. The puppy makes these funny noises and her paws start twitching when she starts dreaming, it is soooo cute!
Debbie444 how stressful with your last move, I hope we get an offer that quick! Your dad is very kind praying and watching over all of us. Congratulations on your upcoming 2 year anniversary, I am 1 ½ years out on April 26.
Deb I am not maintained contact with any of my highschool friends except for one who has been my best friend since grade 8. I wouldnt have anything in common with any of them now if I ran into them.
Tracyseattle loved your letter re; the maxi wings. I dont have to worry about that anymore as Aunt Flo was abruptly stopped for me.LOL.
Gracyie I agree its best to get someone else to do the work so it gets done right now if we could just the contractor to call the store back things would be great.
If you arm is swollen would definitely get it checked out as lympodema can get worse and cause cellulitis if you get an infection. The sleeve should be custom made to fit your arm, mine is nothing fancy and was $65.00. Yes we did see The Holiday, my sister and I are going to see Premonition this weekend.
Kelly glad to see you back safely, the pictures are gorgeous and Teryn is so cute! I especially love the new avtar, where did you get that??
TracyNy you home is going to be beautifully furnished when you are done and you will be broke but happy.LOL.
Cindy welcome back, love the pictures.
Mary thanks for the lympodema information. I was told when I had the surgery that my chances of lympodema were 15-20%, I think the risk is understated and much higher than that. I had 23 nodes out so thats probably why.
Have a great afternoon everyone, the only reason why I am posting at work is because my boss is away.LOL.
Lots of love.
Michele -
Cindy -
I love your crazy photos! ...and your dh is such a trooper! LOL
Tracy -
I hate to say it but...I would think all the packing and lifting and moving you're doing is not helping the Lymph problem! Last time we moved I was having a very serious problem with Tennis Elbow, and the packing and moving finally did it in! I had to have surgery on it! Take care!
Michele -
I know the feeling...my dry-wall dude hasn't been seen in a couple of days! Arghhhh...I hope he's not hanging out with TaDah's nicely chested furniture dude! OMG LOL -
mary...i completely agree with you. i had physical therapy after my surgery by a lymphadema expert and luckily, so far so good. i had a lot of nodes removed (24) so i really protect my arm...wear my sleeve when i go to the gym, lift heavy things, and fly. insurance paid for my 2 months of physical therapy.
cindy...love the pictures
kelly...glad you're back and you had a fantastic vacation!!! we missed you
my husband left this morning for vegas. he goes every year with his stepfather. it's march madness trip i'm going to the beach tomorrow to stay with my parents because it's my dad's birthday. hopefully the weather will be nice.
i'll try to post this weekend, but if not, it's because i'm outside on the beach! i love cool days on the beach -
Mary..good info and you are right..need to tell the docs what we need. I have no swelling thank goodness but I know I'm at risk and am very careful what I am doing here while I clean. I have to protect my back, too, so everybody grabs the laundry baskets and takes them upstairs for me.
Michele..how frustrating with the contractor. My sister redid their kitchen and family room last year and she was telling me all the problems they had. I think contractors and builders take a course on worrying their customers! There is rarely anyone who doesn't have problems with their building or renovating! Good luck.
"Aunt Flo"..we used to just say "my friend" though when we were teens it was NO friend! I don't need those maxi wings anymore either and to tell you the truth..I do NOT miss that!
Watch out just in case your boss returns!
Amy..have a fun weekend! I'm husbandless, too. Am getting a lot of stuff done because of it, too.
TRacy..good luck with the "perpetual moving". It WILL end and you will be all moved in and can relax once again!
Rose Marie..how are you? Hope the meeting went well. -
I am CRAZY BUSY designing Easter Products for my client...if I ever see another Easter Egg Graphic I think I'll puke! LOL But I love my job and my client! She stuck by me through my surgeries and treatment and now...beyond!
Back to work... -
Cindy, Love the pictures. Your husband is a good sport. I don't thing he minded the feather, he look's like he is having fun.
Tracy, I have the same thing under my arm but not as big as an apple. Some days are better than other's. I also wonder if it is the bra I am wearing.
Ravdeb, I also have the feeling of fullness in my boob. When I get up in the morning it seem's better than when I go to bed at night so I probably have a slight case of lymphedema in my chest like Mary said. BTW. Aunt Flo or my Friend (we used to call it that too) hasn't visited me either in a long time.
Mary you always' give such good advice now only if I would take it. I am going for my 4 month check-up next month and I will make sure I get answer's this time. I don't think my arm is swollen just my boob.
Michele, I am glad your snow is gone they are calling for 6 inches here tomorrow. Don't they know it's March? I hope by now you got some answer's from the contractor. Nothing is more frustrating then waiting for someone to get back to you. Your house is going to look beautiful when it is done. Too bad you won't be able to enjoy it. You should have done this month's ago.
Laura, Sorry about your dry wall guy, your right he is either having a drink with Tadah's hot hunky guy with the great chest or ran off with Michele's contractor. Maybe all three of them are together.
Amy, Have fun at the beach. You had a lot of nodes out too, holy moly......
Everyone have a great evening...Laura, Don't work too hard. -
Kelly - fantastic pics. You both look gorgeous!! Your daughter is a looker for sure...
Cindy, lol at your photos! Have you heard about Mardi Gras in Sydney? Its absolutely huge.
Amy, have fun at the beach. Ah, Vegas... loved it.
Everyone, hope you are well.
Here is something disturbing. There was a program on TV a few days ago, its about a workplace where woman after woman is getting diagnosed with BC. Everyone agrees it is more than coincidence by now, but NOTHING is being done.
Here is a transcript of the story if anyones interested:
Transcript
All these women work at ABC - an Australian TV channel. second part of the story is being aired next week. I will post a transcript when its available.
Very scary.. and very sad.
take care all! -
Thanks Paula, Very interesting.

My birthday celebration: Tequila Sunset Lobster Cruise
The sun was at a forgiving angle and after a shot of well-earned Tequlia (mast, chemo, rads, etc)...I was brave enough to wear THE PINK CHEETAH SUIT!
The resort was gorgeous! Maybe we can all meet there someday?
