Good Morning -
It's almost 65 degrees here today! I hope this means that the cold weather is gone for good!
btw - I actually wore my pink cheetah bathing suit in MX! At first I was chicken...but then after I got a tan and drank a shot of Tequila, I worked up the nerve! LOL Roy took some vacation pics that I would like to post later.
Hope you're all having a great day! -
mary -
That girls Mom is amazing! ...will send cards. -
Mary... I hope they just keep pushing til they find the problem. When my nephew was diagnosed at 17 we kept getting calls from my sister in law about every cancer a kid could get until they found the right one..he had lymphoma. But, he went in with a pain in his knee so they thought he had a type of bone cancer. I remember all of this...leukemia, bone cancer and some other one until they got to lymphoma. I'm not exactly sure why...
Will keep her in my prayers...
Rose Marie..how are you feeling?
I'm writing this in the quick reply so I can't remember what everybody said! And it's been a long day and I'm really tired. Dh just left for a week on a business trip overseas. He does this only once in a blue moon and it was decided very quickly. So, we had a rush to get his stuff organized. Then..one of his farm workers got sick and he had to take him to the hospital for x-rays and blood work up and it turns out he has pneumonia. Dh was with him most of the day and got home an hour before he had to leave for the train to get to the airport. But, he made it.
The good news is....my girlfriend's lump is B9!!!! She is dancing her heart out and getting ready to celebrate St. Pats Day big time! She's Irish! She really has lots to celebrate. We are so relieved.
And..my mammo....I looked it up on the internet..forgot I could do that and it's NORMAL! No sign of any changes from the previous one!! Yahoooooooooooooooo!
Had my bone density (I'm full of news today!) and that was okay 'cept I'm going to report them because she asked me to lay on the bed before she put the paper down and I asked her if she was going to do that or should I, and she said that if I wanted to, I could. Well, I think that's against regulations..I mean..she should just do that when I come in. I'm going to report her. There is a big thing going on here in the hospitals..germs flying and people dying from a deadly bacterial infection because of hygenic neglect. It's all over the news. So, I don't think this will go unnoticed when I tell them tomorrow.
Michele...we got a 3-door Amana..the kind with the freezer on the bottom and you pull it out. I love it. We had a 3 door Amana before but a side by side with two freezer on the left side. Anyway, that one is in my studio keeping drinks cold right now and our new one is in the kitchen and it's wonderful!
Michele..my girlfriend is very supportive of me and lets me vent to her about my bc because her mom died of cancer. She understands it. At first..it was really hard for her to accept that I had cancer. We were on the verge of starting a business together and this was furthest from our minds. And when I told her (she was the first to know)she was in shock and right away wanted to run over and sit with me. It was especially hard for her, out of all of my friends.
Daffodils..that sounds so refreshing.. Tracy..you are a true Angel. I love ya!
mary..stay strong.
Be well everybody. -
ravdeb -
Great news! Whew...
I hope your dh doesn't get pneumonia! If the worker has the bacterial version - I think it is contagious. -
Roy has been sick with a really bad cold ever since we got back. On the airplane home, he was laughing so hard at me, because everytime someone sneezed or coughed - I pulled the blanket over my head! LOL So, it's ironic that he's sick and I'm not!
-
Hope Roy feels better soon. My dad isnt allowed to fly anymore as the air quality on planes is so poor.
OK, feel kind of strange. We are trying to arrange a reunion of some of the girls i went to boarding school with. Not a full reunion as there are some i really dont feel th eneed to meet again!! In the past hour i have received emails from 3 people i had lost touch with. One in Cairo with, One in NZ , and one in Arizona. Am i the only one who lives less than 4 miles from where i grew up, does not have a high powered career , and actually feels ( or felt) quite happy with that??? So instead of feeling happy to hear from them, i now feel unsettled. Is that shallow?? AAArgggh - do school reunions ever work?? -
Ravdeb - is it MRSA that you have there? Thats a big thing here at the moment. I have this big thing about hospital staff wearing their ward clothes too and from work - i mean just imagine if they had been on Lauras plane!!
-
Debbie -
You have an incredible life!...2 gorgeous children, a sweet and handsome dh, a beautiful cottage (with new doors) a job that is rewarding...the list goes on. And I doubt any of those girls can boast of having 9 lives or your many adventures! LOL You're rich in love and happiness...the simple things, the most important things! When I went to my reunion, it was before I was married and I was the only gal there with no dh and no kids. I still had fun. But there was a guy there who during school days always teased me. When I saw him, I wanted to belt him! But he actually apologized and said he did it because he had a crush on me! If it actually does happen, you'll most likely have a great time! Although it wouldn't hurt to pull up in that FAB sports car of yours! LOL (Uh, oh...is the reunion planned for before or after your balloon ride?) LOL -
Happy Spring to everyone,
It was a beautiful warm day today at 14 degrees celcius. The driveway has a large puddle of water at the bottom of it and I can actually see the gravel for the first time since mid January. I love spring time. The time change has thrown me for a loop though.
Drum Roll last night was the first night in almost a year that I have slept straight through the night a full 7 hours. Normally due to hotflashes, menopause and the meds I am on I normally wake 3-4 times a night. I will take the freebie night and run with it, if I continue to sleep this way it will be a true blessing, I miss my solid nights sleep. The bags under my eyes are starting to show the lack of it.
I wore my sleeve most of the day today and ended up taking it off a twice as it was so uncomfortable, any tips for making it a bit more bearable to wear? Mine was custom made. It seems to bother me the most where the band sits on my upper arm, is there something I can put in between the sleeve and my skin?
Deb wow what a relief of the news on your friend. She must be doing cartwheels with this news. Double woo hoo on the normal mamo!!! You can look it up on the internet that is different. I had to pull teeth and wait almost 2 weeks for final confirmation and that came from my GP! Your fridge sounds like something we could use. We have had our fridge since 1986 and it is almond in colour, yuk! I like the ideal of having the freezer part on the bottom, easy to reach. We would like to get a stainless steel fridge and stove with an icemaker. It doesnt take much to please me as I am so pumped about getting our new dishwasher when our kitchen gets installed. Are we behind the times or what?
Tracyseattle I remember seeing lots of daffodils sitting on the reception desk at the clinic. We always have a campaign at work and this year there are a lot of people buying them in support of cancer. We lost our plant manager in Nov at age 49 due to lung cancer, I was diagnosed in Oct 05 and then another person my age was diagnosed in 06.
We also have our local grocery store sell them and volunteers solicit from door to door in the local area. The blowing flowers sound amazing, we wont have any flowers blooming for awhile yet as the snow still has to all melt and the ground is still frozen!
Linda here is the link that you were referring to, I have read parts of it, a very good read. I know that you will be there to support your friend, she is probably trying to digest whatever the news is herself first before sharing it with you.
http://www.hopkinsbreastcenter.org/library/diagnosis_treatment/post_treatment.shtml
Gracyie your grandsons comment was cute. We are not that brave to take on such a huge project ourselves, everything is from Home Depot and their contractors are doing all the work.
TracyNy what is the difference between a night and day sleeve?
Victoria great news on your estrogen levels dropping, but probably could do without the impressive hotflashes, with you on that one! Change is always tough but I believe you made the right move in the long run with less work on your hands and more time for you and your family. So far I can still wear my wedding rings and I have another ring that I wear on my right hand. I never take them off but they dont feel uncomfortable either.
Debbie444 I would not trade all the money or a big career for the love of my family and friends. Your highschool friends have nothing in comparison to what you have--spunk, personality, great kids and a loving husband! You are our comedian and I cant wait to meet you in person! How many days until August 23?
Mary likewise here the feelings are the same, this sisterhood and the bond here is priceless ..
Laura cant wait to see your pictures, a pink cheetah bathing suit, that takes guts girl!
Have a lovely evening ladies.
Hi to Amy, Maryanne, Cindy, Rosemarie, Kelly, Paula, Jill, Cathy and Brenda. I hope I didnt miss anyone, short term memory is gone.LOL.
Your bc sister
Michele -
The night sleeve has tight compression and takes the fluid out of the limb, the day sleeve is a stocking like garment that maintains the reduction that you get from the night sleeve. Its a bulky thing but it works. There are several types, I have a circ-aid with a lot of velcro straps that is a million times easier than the bandaging I used to have to do.
-
debbie...are those reunions ever anything someone looks forward to? i'm always nervous. here's what helps me...the thing is that you start doubting your accomplishments, where you are in your life, etc. and ironically, everyone feels the same way. as unsettled as you may feel despite loving your life (i freakin love your life!) i have a feeling that those high powered women are probably jealous as hell of you and maybe doubting where they are. you're not shallow. you're being normal and honest. hold onto your happiness, your love of your life, and don't let anyone take that away. because as unsettled as you may feel, i'm sure they feel the same way. i don't know if that helps, but it kinda works for me.
michele...with the sleeve, i think you just get used to it. i hate wearing my sleeve when i first got it...i wear it when i work out...but now i'm used to it. have you checked out the website for Lympha divas? Their bands looked thinner and comfier. and like i said before, they're shnazzy that's great you're sleeping through the night. as i write, i think i'm having a hot flash, but that may be because my dinner is really hot i think now your body knows how awesome it is to sleep through the night and you will get that to be a regularity.
deb...i've already told you...but i'll say it again.... i'm so happy that you got double good news!!! -
is anyone as excited as me for tykerb to be fda approved now? it is not relevant specifically for me since i'm her-, but it makes me feel so excited for all the advances that will surely take place in our time
-
Deb - this is fantastic news! Whew, your friend (and you) must be sooo relieved!
re LE sleeves - girls, do you wear yours as a prevention, or to reduce/emilinate existing swelling? Since i only had a SNB, my surgeon told me not to worry... but of course i do. -
Michele -
We have a walk out basement that walks out to our forest, so we decided to have it finished. So...I am going through the same thing you are...choosing tile, carpet, sink, shower, etc. It's fun, but at the same time, it's arduous. It would be a total waste not to finish it because the view is incredible, so I am looking forward to the end result. I tried to read back through the posts...I know you're moving but are you moving into a condo or townhouse or...? I read you would not miss raking leaves! LOL
Also, I have to share this with you: We have a store here called PETCO (maybe you do too). It's all about pet supplies, pet food, etc. Everytime I go there I see the manager's Mustang parked out front. His license plate is: ScubySnax! And everytime I see it I think of you! How funny! I looked in the store and they actually sell a dog treat called Scooby Snacks! LOL
Amy -
I am just as excited as you are! It doesn't relate personally to me either, but I get all choked up when I hear/read about ANY ADVANCES!
Debbie -
One more thing...there was a girl at my reunion...who was a total dork (back in the day), but really was a nice girl. (I can say the word dork because I was quite dorky as well)...but when she filled in her update info in the reunion program I couldn't believe my eyes!
She wrote: met the man of my dreams in Greece, fell in love with him in France, got engaged in London and was married in Switzerland...tough act to follow, huh! But when I saw her at the reunion, she was so nice and genuine and sweet...just as I had remembered her!
Paula -
I had a SNB and then had 11 Lymph Nodes removed. I haven't had any MAJOR Lymphedema probs, so I just wear a sleeve when I'm in an airplane. -
Amy - thanks for the advice on the sleeve, I was hoping that I would get use to it. I do have a little fluid retention in my affected arm so thought I should wear the sleeve until the arm goes back to its normal size. I will check out the website you mentioned. My sleeve is the beigy coloured and is not that noticeable, actually no one noticed it at work today. I do hope that I continue my sleeping pattern like last night, not having a proper sleep affects you in so many ways. It is exciting news that they are finally making some strides in coming out with some more drugs for her+ women. When will it be FDA approved? Does it work similar to herceptin or used with it? Now they have to work on the ER- gals....
TracyNY - thanks for the info on the night sleeve, will see about getting one.
Laura - I would kill for a walkout basement, they are really nice so that you dont have to lug heavy furniture through the house and just so much more light. Your basement sounds like it will be gorgeous when it is done.
Once we sell our home, putting it on the market once kitchen is installed - April sometime we will move into town into a newer home. We will buy a detached brick home with less property to take care of. Yes, we will not miss raking leaves for a month each fall -- last year my hubby took away 4,000 pounds of leaves. I laughed at the Scooby Snx license plate and my sister actually bought a box of Scooby snacks and had a good laugh when she handed them over to me. We normally dont give our dogs lots of treats as it is not good for them and also our beloved sheppard when he was alive drove us to the brink of insanity as he knew where they were. Everytime we would walk into the pantry he would arf for a biscut. We buy them marrow bones to chew on and they last a long time.
Paula - I had 23 nodes out and my arm has a little bit of swelling so I started wearing mine to control the swelling.
Good night ladies.
Michele -
Michele -
Thanks for explaining your "new living desires". I was just curious...and I hope you will find the home that suits you and your dh's desires!
Up until 5 years ago, I lived my entire life in Chicago! But I am so happy that I am now in a forest! I remember back in high school...my favorite extra curricular group was ECOLOGY! Love to you...dear! (remember that?) -
Ravdeb!!!! YAY!!! I am so happy for you and your friend!
-
Feel better now!! Strange but true. The last time i saw any of them was at a wedding in Bristol. Its not the ones i do see that wind me up, its the ones who cant come but just happen to drop in an email stating how good there life is !! Anyway, lovely spring day here - actually have all the windows open at 8.15 as so warm.
Michelle - sort of Know where you are at. I have never really lived in a finished house for very long. The last house was finished 2 days before they came out to value it!! When i went out to arrange them to come and value, Roger was laying the kitchen floor and the bathroom sat packaged up in the garage. The paint and grout was still wet when the board went up! It was well worth it, we said they could start showing people around once we went away on the Saturday ( i thought one grand tidy up, kids out , dog out, husband out!) 3 hrs later we had the agent on th ephone saying she had taken a deposit for the full asking price and how fast could we move out!! So then i was stuck in the middle of nowhere with no mobile phone reception and nowhere to live as the house we had seen had been sold - made for a good start to the holiday!
Deb - that is great news for your friend. WOOOHOOOO !!
Dad is certain that none of us is going to get a reoccurrence as he told me yesterday that he says the rosary for all of us each night. i know that very few of us are Catholic but he feels that putting in a good word for us is the only thing he can do to help! Each time i have been in for an op and at each chemo he did the same - and i am still here!!
I am on the countdown to my 2 year anniversary - 4th May.
Good sunny morning to you all
Debbie -
Good MOrning Ladies...
It's a dreary rainy day and will be like this for close to a week, they tell us. Well, I hate this stuff but will go beyond it and conquer it and will NOT get down. My dh just landed in S. Africa and will be gone for a week and I plan to just get a ton of things done in his absence.
Thanks for the yays and woohoos about my mammo and for my friend! We are doing the Happy Dance, that's for sure!!
Debbie.. I do NOT like seeing those from high school. I was crazy in high school..a total rebel. I have connections with no one from high school and only my close friend who is my age but is my synagogue friend. When I go back to my home town (Oak Park)I hope never to run into anyone and I don't usually, and I never go to the temple, either! I went there once with my dh (we met there) because he loves seeing everybody again.
I signed up several years back on classmates.com. I read about those I had been in school with. I graduated in a class of close to 1000 kids and most of them on the list now I never heard of! At any rate..I e-mailed a couple that I wanted to connect with for various reasons and we e-mailed back and forth and that was fun but it ended.
I'm in close touch with my college girlfriends...we are best friends..all 6 of use whether we hear from each other or not, we know that if there is a crisis, we have each other. No doubts there.
Debbie..you live an incredible life. You know that. You chose a path that is rich with all that you love to do and you give and get in return because of that. I read your antics and laugh but when I read about you and your kids and Roger...I feel very good inside. You are such a mature young woman and so full of life and caring. That is the most precious of all.
I also have a door that leads outside from our basement. Our basement is my studio. I have a good size window and I have a glass door to bring in light. I have a "patio" outside my studio and we hope to fix it up so that it can be really pleasant..it's surrounded by rocks and separate because of the rocks, from the rest of the yard. It has great protential.
Michele..our old fridge has a 20th bithday in a week or so :-) Also our oven and washer and dryer. May the latter live forever! We bought all our appliances in the States before moving to Israel including stereo and TV, fax and computer. Okay..the fax and computer died and our TV did, too...the stereo..hmmmmm..we can't use it..maybe it can be fixed. We will be "celebrating" 20 years in Israel in another week. I can't believe it.
V..did you get your labs?
Rose Marie..how are you doing? How's that dizziness?
I gotta go do my stuff today...
Have a good day, y'all. -
Will find more time to write later but wanted to check in on all of you!
I'm fine - my cold is just about gone and so is the dizziness!! Thanks for asking!
It has been beautiful here - nearly 80 degrees F! We tied a record with our temps. yesterday.
Have a busy morning planned but hopefully I'll be able to relax with a cup of coffee later this afternoon and catch up! -

WHERE'S KELLY!?!? I have a funny "locked in the hallway of a hotel" story... -
Hi All -
Here is a good chuckle to start off your day - this is HILARIOUS!!!!
AN OPEN LETTER TO MR. JAMES THATCHER, BRAND MANAGER, PROCTER & GAMBLE.
Dear Mr. Thatcher,
I have been a loyal user of your Always maxi pads for over 20 years, and I appreciate many of their features. Why, without the LeakGuard Core? or
Dri-Weave? absorbency, I'd probably never go horseback riding or salsa dancing, and I'd certainly steer clear of running up and down the beach in t ight, white
shorts. But my favorite feature has to be your revolutionary Flexi-Wings. Kudos on being the only company smart enough to realize how crucial it is that
maxi pads be aerodynamic. I can't tell you how safe and secure I feel each month knowing there's a little F-16 in my pants. Have you ever had a menstrual period, Mr. Thatcher? Ever suffered from "the curse"? I'm guessing you haven't. Well, my "time of the month" is starting right now. As I type, I can already feel hormonal forces violently surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now, my body will adjust and I'll be transformed into what my husband likes to call "an inbred hillbilly with knife skills." Isn't the human body amazing?
As brand manager in the feminine-hygiene division, you've no doubt seen quite a bit of research on what exactly happens during your customers' monthly
visits from Aunt Flo. Therefore, you must know about the bloating, puffiness, and cramping we endure, and about our intense mood swings, crying jags, and
out-of-control behavior. You surely realize it's a tough time for most women. In fact, only last week, my friend Jennifer fought the violent urge to shove her boyfriend's testicles into a George Foreman Gr ill just because he told her he thought Grey's Anatomy was written by drunken chimps. Crazy! The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that America is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in capri pants.
Which brings me to the reason for my letter.
Last month, while in the throes of cramping so painful I wanted to reach inside my body and yank out my uterus, I opened an Always maxi pad, and there,
printed on the adhesive backing, were these words: "Have a Happy Period." Are you kidding me? What I mean is, does any part of your tiny middle-manager brain really think happiness, actual smiling, laughing happiness, is possible during a menstrual period? Did anything mentioned above sound the least bit pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you'r e some kind of sick S&M freak girl, there will never be anything "happy" about a day in which you have to jack yourself up on Motrin and Kahlúa and lock yourself in your house just so you don't march down to the local Walgreens armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy plan to end your life in a blaze of glory. For the love of God, pull your head out, man. If you just have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn't it make more sense to say something that's actually pertinent, like "Put Down the Hammer" or "Vehicular Manslaughter Is Wrong"? Or are you just picking on us?
Sir, please inform your accounting department that, effective immediately, there will be an $8 drop in monthly profits, for I have chosen to take my maxi-pad business elsewhere. And though I will certainly miss your Flexi-Wings, I will not for one minute miss your brand of condescending bull.. And that's a promise I will keep. Always .
Best,
Wendi Aarons
Austin, TX -
Tracy..that is great. I just got that in an e-mail and was laughing my pants off!!!
Debbie..I don't know what virus/bacterial thingy it is in the hospitals..maybe it is that..what IS that?
Tracy NY..I just did some shopping and ended up with nothing but a bulletin board, 2 cans of tuna and a roll to munch on the way home cuz I was so frustrated and one place I was in has a bakery with the best breads..all fresh. I obviously do NOT know how to shop.
RoseMarie..enjoy the warm weather. I think you stole it from us..we had 80 degree weather and today it's in the 50's and rainy. So, kindly give us our warm weather back!!!
I'm sooooooooooo tired. I spent this whole day driving all over the place in the rain (something I hate) sitting in the car til the downpours were done (there were several...funny how that is..and then the sun comes out so I can run into the store before the next downpour), walked in sandy mud (one town has yet to put sidewalks in and all they have is this red, muddy stuff..yuck..kept asking myself why I was there!), and then after all of this, I couldn't find what I was looking for!
Now I'm exhausted...oh yea..then I got a call on my car phone while I was trying to find my way in the rain, that I need to call my dh (who is in S. Africa) and tell him to call this guy right away in S. Africa). I told her (she's our cousin) that I was in the car and couldn't write the number down and wasn't sure how to get through to my dh at that point and she said she'd find a way and I hung up. Afterwards, I searched for her phone number to call her back cuz I felt so badly and I had the wrong number. Then I accidently deleted her cell number! Then, luckily, her son called me so I had the number and called her back when she got home and apologized. She was fine with it and said she always tells people to call her back if she's in the car, anyway, so she understood. Felt like a dimwit! -
Tracy, that was funny...
Laura I don't know what I did wrong. I did order the Cd before I posted but then I screwed it up somehow when I THOUGHT I inserted the link. Thank's for fixing it..BTW, your basement sound's YUMMY! I bet you can't wait. Where are the picture's of your trip?
Ravdeb, Congratulations on you and your friends good report.......Yipee! Wonderful new's for both of you. I think we have your weather.......60 and raining. Better than snow though.
Michele, That's the best way to remodel to have someone else do it for you. When we were young we did all the home improvements ourselves, not anymore........
Debbie, I hope your Dad is right. Tell him to keep praying.
Amy, that is wonderful new's on tykerb being approved by the FDA.
To you girls with the compression sleeve. Do you think I should look into getting one. I am wondering what will happen if I fly. I had 23 lymph nodes removed and sometimes my arm does feel a little swollen. Still waiting for the swelling in the breast to go down. Somehow I feel that is never going to happen and it is really making me mad. -
I have to get a new avatar if it is the last thing I do...lol...I hate that picture.
-
What's with the word YUMMY?...everyone's using it! LOL
Graycie -
The link worked after I deleted the back slash and the....'s.

Hope everyone is having a great day!
