Debbie, you are so funny! Someone must have 'double dog dared you' into doing that stunt!!
Paula, glad you are ok! So glad that you are getting out there and DOING things. I want to get a tatoo as well. Keep thinking of getting one on my lower back.
Dev, how is Adam? When is he coming home?? How come Chanukah is not a holy day? Here it is, isn't it? Isn't it the Festival of Lights? I know it has something to do with the oil not burning out.
TracyNY, you continue to crack me up! Your doctor must get a big kick out of you. How is the dating world?
Regarding pains, mine seem to have been getting better lately. Before I was so stiff in the morning. I don't seem to be stiff like that everyday.
Love you all!!! -
Tracey - are you going to have them adjustable so you can alter them to suit what you are wearing??????
We had a reading about Chanukah at the carol service, thought it would be celebrated there.
Kelly - actually i was practising so that come summer i would be able to do it. have given it up as a bad job.
Something funny - at school todaythey asked me whether i would take the Y6s ( last year, aged 11) for cycling proficiency in the Summer. Cn you imagine me teaching 35 kids how to be safe on bikes on the road? hahahahahaha
Debbie -
Me again!
I FINALLY made myself a Rocktober Chemo Girl T-Shirt!...ala ny new avatar.
I found pink long-sleeved fitted t's...I can't wear short-sleeved shirts in the winter, even with my hot flashes! So if you want to flaunt your status and show off your girls at the same time...just let me know. They're not as inexpensive as the original t's though...$13 each (S, M, L, XL, 1X, 2X). I would never charge for my time, but shipping would add an additional $5 (approx. for U.S.). I wouldn't be able to make them until after my Mast. - about the 2nd week in January. The loose fitting original style is still available too ($9. each)! Just FYI.
Laura -
Hi All! Happy Friday!
I just have a minute because I am at work.....
You have probably heard that we are having some pretty horrible weather up here in the NW. 700,000 people without power - Pouring rain and high winds. The Sea Hawks game was televised last night so you may have seen the water pouring down the steps of the stadium. Trees are down, the bridges are closed, stop lights are out.... Fun, Fun, Fun. Our power did not go out, but most of the power in our city did. It took me 2 hours to get home on the bus.... crazy. We very seldom have intense weather conditions here, so it is BIG news!
Paula - My room mate whom I was visting in TX has her cell phone ring set to "Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy". heh heh heh you should down load it for your phone!!!
My tumor was on the left outer side so I guess that would be 3:00?
I totally understand how this time of year is hard for all of us. I was dreading the holidays, but having Dave around to celebrate with has helped me a lot. I still have some flash backs of last year though. It was such a dark and depressing time. BUT WE ARE DONE WITH THAT AND MOVING ON WITH LIFE!!!! This is a good time to start some new traditions!
I want to get a Tattoo too!!! I am thinking about getting the flower that is one the CD cover with a pink ribbon somehow incorporated into it. Maybe we should all (those of us who are interested) think about getting the same one! I would change to a different design....
Well, better get to work. I have an interview today at Swedish Hospital to be a volunteer assistant to the Patient Navigator at the Cancer Center. I would work there 4 hours every other week on my Wednesday off. I am hoping to learn the Patient Navigator job in hopes that someday I might get the opportunity to have that job and be paid!
Gotta run, love ya sisters! Have a good weekend! -
I am thinking of something with either a flower or a phoenix
-
Whats a patient navigator ? Is it like an information bureau??
-
Any person who is newly diagnosed with Cancer is directed to the Patient Navigator for resources such as support groups, where to get wigs, etc. etc....
I think it would be a very cool thing to do! -
Debbie:
Twinkies: Yellow cake formed like a tube that's flat on one side. After baking they inject cream filling into the middle of the cake. They are about 4 inches long and very good, if you like cake and cream filling. Also very fattening, but something that good would have to be fattening. Loved by kids and some of us who are still acting like kids. Put into many a lunch bag by moms in the olden days (when I was a kid). In today's healthier world moms probably dole them out only occasionally as they are full of sugar and fats, etc.
Sloppy Joes: Ground beef browned and then mixed with seasonings and a tomato-based sauce. this meat mixture is put on a bun, like a hamburger bun. Usually the sauce mixture drips out on your hands, your chin, and your clothes. That's why they are sloppy, messy, and fun. Kids usually like them. It's a good way to stretch a small amount of meat into a more filling meal.
Loose meat sandwich: similar to a sloppy joe, but usually involving a roast of some kind like roast beef or roast pork. Can also be made with chicken or turkey. After meat is roasted or cooked, it's shredded into smaller chunks and strings of meat. The meat is loosen off the bones - hence "loose meat." Usually seasoned and sauced in all manner of variations. My mom would take leftover roast beef from Sunday dinner and cut it up, heat it with leftover gravy and serve it for dinner on Monday with toasted bread for the sandwich. Many variations all across the USA. Other families may prepare it completely differently. Popular flavor is barbeque.
That's what I know today.
Best to all,
Mary -
Laura, you are so cute!!
Mary, thanks for the translations...I didn't know what a loose meat sandwich was either- course I'm 1st generation American soooo...I also don't know a lot of nursery rhymes and idioms get me all the time. I was well into my 20's before I ever heard the expression "you've got your work cut out for you." I wasn't sure if that meant the task would be easy or hard...:) -
In NY we don't really date in the winter. We couple up with the one we chose after dating all summer!! Personally, I hold open enrollment from Memorial Day through Labor Day, that's when I accept applications and then I make my pick after that!
I've been out of rotation for a minute. I take numbers and flirt but I am grooming my next husband and we plan to step things up next summer. I have a companion at the moment who I may visit tonight if it gets cold enough!!
I may have to do laundry tonight. I send my stuff out but my towels need a good sudsy, bleachy scalding water wash which I have to do myself. Hey, that's one change I made after diagnosis. I stopped washing clothes. I pay a little Asian man to do it. My time is better spent doing what I want to do, that's why they created money, so we can pay folks to do things we'd prefer not to! -
Ha! We need to send Debbie some Twinkies and maybe some Ding Dongs!! She needs to experience these things first hand!
TracyNY - you crack me up. I do like the idea of sending your laundry out--HOW COOL!!! -
Ho-Ho's, Ding Dongs, Little Debbie's, Oreo's ... mmmmm the things my mom would put in our lunch that I would NEVER even consider putting in Teryn's! I feel really bad if I put a cookie in the lunch. Teryn is really into her grapes, raisins, string cheese or a little half sandwich!
-
Moon Pies!!! Oh My..... Lunch used to be so much better in the Good Old Days!
-
My FAV...was Nutty Buddy's...Little Debbie brand.
Laura -
My mom wouldn't buy any of those cakes. I ate them at friends' houses, though!
But..I make sloppy joes and my kids love them. Well, they used to like them.
Never heard of loose meat sandwiches. I mean..I know what they are but never heard that term before.
TracyNY... you know how to LIVE and I envy that. You also know how to write humorously. You really should save these posts and put them in a book. They are priceless.
Laura..your avatar is beautiful!
TracySea... you are made for that job. I wish you lots of luck. That is a great job for you!
Adam was moved yesterday to a rehab center. I spoke with him very briefly today and he said it's MUCH better there than in the hospital. I called him on his cell phone again tonight and put my cell phone on the rabbi's podium so he could hear the service. He said he heard everything. Tonight was our opening for our 10 year anniversary of our temple. There was a pot luck dinner (which I didn't stay for)but we had our rabbi's teacher give a sermon (he was quite entertaining), we had rabbinical students there and the place was packed. It was also our first night of Chanukah.
Kelly..chanukah is considered an historical holiday rather than a religious holiday. In short...we celebrate the victory of reclaiming the Temple. We celebrate for 8 days, because after they cleaned out the temple of all the Greek symbols that were there, they wanted to light the eternal light, which is in every synagogue/temple. But when they went to look for some oil, they only found a little bit that they thought would only last a very short time. But, in fact, it lasted 8 days. So, we light a candle on our chanukah menorah each night to represent the miracle of the oil lasting for 8 nights.
So, tonight we lit the first candle. Each night we add another candle.
We also eat "sufganiot" or jelly donuts. And we eat potato pancakes. Basically, the tradition is to eat things fried in oil..oil being the important element.
And we play the "dreidel" game. Dreidel is in yiddish. In Hebrew it's called sevivon. It's a spinning top with Hebrew letters on it..In English outside of Israel, the letters mean..A Great Miracle Happened There. But here in Israel one of the letters is different so that it means...A Great Miracle Happened Here.
That's the holiday in short!
And you are all my bosom buddies!!!! -
Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, we made it out of clay....
-
Oh, i had oreos, they were horrid. Didnt like Hersheys either - would never make an American!!
What are Ding Dongs ? Surely thats not a real name - how can you buy them with a straight face!!?? And moon pies??
When my uncle first moved out, he used to miss Cheddar cheese, English cucumbers and warm rice pudding. Guess things have changed now but my aunt still pays extra for English cucumbers and not American ones. Whats the difference?
Go TracetNY, thats the way ! Roger wanted to send our ironing out but i felt guilty - I only work 10hrs a week after all. A Polish guy does my car - much to Rogers disgust. Its really nice to park it up, go and shop and it be ready when i come back. Thats my treat for the week - town with my friend, a decent coffee in a cup and saucer and a shiny car!
Debbie
Do not measure life in the breathes you take, measure life in the moments that take your breathe away. -
I love latkes!
-
I want to get a tattoo too! I was just talking about that with my husband...I'm thinking of just the word "survive". Not sure where to put it.
I'm getting ready to go to the beach...have a hacking cough and an ear ache, but it's time for Chanukah and my mom makes the most unbelievable latkes
Love you all.
Laura....you look gorgeous -
I really like chinese characters. I, too, was thinking of a word: Survivor or LIFE ........ written in chinese.
-
mmmm.. i am sure it was explained somewhere earlier, but what is latkes?
lets talk tattoo designs!! A am torn, on one hand i want to have something to do with surviving, victory, etc, but on the other, i always wanted to get a picture of a seahorse! why seahorse? i have no idea. I just find them adorable.
Do you know, that its a MALE seahorse that gets pregnant? And a female one comes round every day with food for him, and they go for a walk together, holding onto each others's tails... now how totally cute is that??? -
I wish I had more time. I feel like the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland I'm late, I'm late, I'm late.
But I just had to respond to all you funny girls and the ho, hos, ding dongs, moon pies etc. etc. You've made me laugh all day.
I am now going home to make myself some latkes. You Chanukah girls have really made me hungry.
Wish I had a menorah to light.
Happy Chanukah! -
Paula and Laura your new Avatars are beautiful. You are both looking younger every day.I love the cowboy song. My husband is a cowboy at heart so we always smile when we hear that song.
Debbie, I was a beaver leader, yes my name was Rainbow, for three years. It was loads of fun, it made me realise how tough teachers have it. You have to keep them busy or they totally go crazy.
Rosemarie have a great weekend. So nice to get away even just for a little while. "are you cured" , what a thing to say...
Tadah when we meet I am going to spend the first 5 minutes checking out the girls and all their features.LOL. I do love your descriptions too. Reorganizing your storage space sounds like a brutal task.I am doing laundry since I had cancer. Last year I had no pay for three months and about 1/3 after that so had to cut out my housekeeper.I kind of enjoy it. Making all those neat piles of everyones clothing. Now putting it back in their drawers, that is what I hate.
Rosemarie what origin are your parents?
Victoria, I wear my prosthesis in all my old bras too, is yours made by Amoena? I saw a cool one last month which had a sticky surface which adheres to skin but doesn't leave anything when removed. Is that the type you got? Glad you feel more feminine. Hope the kids are well and you enjoy your time with them. My teenagers are so into their freinds it is hard to do any thing together anymore.
Scottishlass, glad you had your mammo and caught your BC.
Hi to all the rest of you too. It was so nice to see all of us together on the DVD. Thanks again Laura.
Fists up! -
Just catching up with you all . . . so much fun. I am so glad I have you all for friends. Have a great weekend everyone.
Mary -
should we rocktober ladies get the same tattoo (for those of us who want one) or is that beyond cheezy?
-
Same one. Just call us Cheeze balls!
-
Amy -
I love the idea of all of us getting the same one! Not cheesy at all...united we stand, divided we fall! Let's work on this...Happy Chanuka to you! I love Latkes!
Laura -
Dear Fumi sent me some Chinese/Japanese charachters
-
I think I want: live a life!
-
