Victoria, I look forward to the list of art supplies! You are such a giving person and giving me this list will really help me .... my daughter so loves to paint and make things. She is apparently making something at school for me, she loves calling it the "surprise" and she is really good about how she cannot tell me what "it" is!! I forgot to tell you how much I enjoyed the sound of your voice. Oh maybe I did tell you that!! It is very soothing and loving....and tell your friend, your voice is FULL of LIFE. Your days are not few.
I don't have alot of time to read other forums. I used to go to a Mommy board but the girls didn't really interact well with each other .... everyone seemed to be all about themselves and their kids so it was filled with new threads, each woman posting her day, her life, not a group or running threads.
Dev, you are very kind to worry about this woman. She is fortunate to have you as an organizer. You will really be able to foresee her needs like no other in your congregation.
Well, gotta get Teryn ready for school. -
Thanks Kelly! She and I discussed the shock of being diagnosed and the feelings about it, etc. We also talked about the wonderful doctors we have here...
Jill..you are right about being at her home to help her out. That will be a tough one. She said she has somebody who will bring her her food from the health food store. Here's another one, Victoria. She eats only organic and whole wheat and so on... And she got cancer, too. And she's 91 years old and has been healthy all this time. She is our "bohemian". Very, very special lady. Very kind and very interesting and very active.
At any rate..I will try to make her something healthy to eat for when she returns home but I still feel that she needs a familiar face when she gets out of surgery and wakes up...and not just her driver. Gotta get somebody over to the hospital for her.. -
ravdeb -
Best wishes to your friend...hope it will all be okay, although with a friend like you...I just know it will. Hope your aches and pains subside soon! Arghhhhh...
Let me see if I have it straight here. It's now: ravdeb, Debbie, Deborah, Devorah, Deb, Dev, and rabbi wannabe.
OMG - LOL!
(Gotta keep you smiling!)

Hi Girls:
It's really difficult to remember everyone's stats and exact diagnosis. And it's easier to give more accurate and detailed advice, knowing the specific info surrounding each of our "stories".
As stated in an earlier post...if you're not comfortable sharing the details, then don't. If you would like to submit this but prefer privacy, you can PM or e-mail it to whomever you choose. Thanks, Victoria, for proofing this for me, great minds think alike. LOL

Due to extreme and intolerable pain, had it removed 3 weeks later during the Ax. Node Dis. No plan of reconstruction in the near future. Mast. site still sore and underarm is still numb. Prophylactic Mast. scheduled for Dec. 27th (2006). I'm wearing lipstick to it, but not red! I look horrible in red lipstick...pink will do just fine! -

I always had annual mammos. Tumor didn't show up. Six months later I found the lump by self examination. They thought I had an abcess and treated me with antibiotics because it was slightly inflamed so they also thought I had an infection. They made me wait 3 weeks to see if it would shrink. That is when they realized that it had grown and sent me in for a biopsy which turned out to be a tumor. Had it removed 3 weeks later. When SN turned out postive I had the Ax. Node Dis. Site is still sore on occasion and underarm is still numb. -------------------- -
Graycie,
I had forgotten that our dx's had several things in common! I think we were seperated at birth. LOL

I had first baseline mamo at age 40 in Sept 04, nothing showed up in either breast. Breast tissue extremely dense. Discovered tumour myself in Oct 05, thirteen months after a clear mamo and knew in my heart it was cancer, didnt ignore that little voice within. Glad I did ..chemo put me into menopause which is a good thing being er/pr+, put on Armidex in May 06 and started Zoladex injections a month ago to ensure I stay menopausal for the time being. May have ovaries out when injections are finished in 2-3 years, oncologist not recommending at this point, no family history of bc or gene mutation. -

At the time of my mast. I was also diagnosed w/Pagets Disease which as I understand it is rare but when present accompanies DCIS. I had uterine cancer 19 years ago and had complete hysterectomy. Cancer had not penetrated the uterine wall and there was no lymph involvement so had no chemo. To me it wasnt real. Breast Cancer is! -

I had annual mammos for 10 years, despite dense breasts. No sign of tumor in mammo/ultrasound 8 months before diagnosis. My tumor was tender to the touch and grew very fast. Fast growth is typical of medullary. Luckily, this variety tends not to travel much. Fingers crossed! -

I had quite a rollercoaster with my diagnosis.. was at first told i have a 1.5cm lump and the lumpectomy would be enough. Then was told the lump was in fact 3cm, and margins unclean, so need re-excision. THEN, after op #2, told more cancer found in the margins, so thanks to a multifocal nature of my tumour, mastectomy is the only option. I felt like i had bits and pieces of me sliced off like a christmas ham... and THEN, just before chemo, i had to have operation #4 to fix a faulty port for my expander...
And the fight i had with my PS to have an expander installed even though rads were in store for me - thats a whole new story!! -

After my 3rd AC, I got a high fever that wouldn't quit. They thought it was from the neupogen shots. But, it was a bacterial infection that had gotten into the blood. Was hospitalized for close to a month..the first week being sent home every day until they found the problem. From this infection, I had an eye infection and serious reactive rheumatoid arthritis that left me in severe pain for about 2 months. Other than that..I was fine!! REALLY! -

Had a maternal aunt that was diagnosed at 36 and died at 40 so my diagnosis at 37 freaked everyone out! Found the lump when I was putting on my bathing suit. Was told repeatedly by the OBGYN, the radiologist, and the surgeon that the lump felt and looked benign. Had never had a mammo before, never had any complications before, always very healthy. Was told lumpectomy was not an option as my excisional biopsy did not have clean margins and I was very small chested - "there would be nothing left to conserve." For the record...my first surgeon was a real idiot, answered his cell phone 3 times while he was telling me I had cancer! (had to go back and edit as I was feeling guilty for calling the surgeon a worse name...) -

No family history of bc. Was quite shocked to find the lump but knew what it was not good! Did not show up real clear on the mammo and later doctor could not find lump. They said it was a miracle I had found it. Had an oopherectomy so I could extremely lower my chances of getting bc in the other breast and able to start an AI. Was on Herceptin and had to stop midstream due to poor MUGAs but restarted after 3 months of rest. Went thru a bunch of personal/custody issues with the ex during all this!! Single mom, working full time ... enjoying my 5 year old with every ounce of joy to be found!! Cancer is what we had not who we are. Teryn and I are not just surviving, we are thriving! -
It's strange mine was in the right breast. I had mastitis when I nursed in THAT traitor. I also had a bad perspiration in that THAT underarm. Since the mastectomy, I no longer perspire under my arms and I didn't have any nodes removed. I no longer use antiperspirant, just natural deodorant.
Isn't that strange? I even went to the dr about the perspiration problem since that one side was ruining my clothes!! -
Here is a page that gives a list of tumor markers.
Tumor markers -
Hi Everyone!
I will complete the form later when I have time, but I am a "lefty" too!
I got home from Houston on Sunday with very little sleep on Saturday night. I only got to see one of my friends on Saturday, so we used all the time together that we could! I am paying for it now as I am SO TIRED and I also think I am getting sick--I started pumping in the Airborne this morning.....
Dave and I were SO HAPPY to see each other! I think a week apart really reinforced that what we have is good and for real..... ***sigh***
Kelly - I am so glad that you are happy too--it seems that Dave is the name of the month, doesn't it? LOL!!!
Laura - Dave & I watched the DVD last night. It is beautiful!!! Thanks so much! I brought it to work today and I plan to show it to all of my friends here....
I don't have time to respond to each of you except to say that each and every one of you are very special and dear to me. Thank you so much for being there, I love our little group of friends!
Jill, Brenda, Paula, Linny, Michele - I owe all of you a CD.... Is there anyone else whom I overlooked? It was by no means intentional at all - chemo brain and being too busy are my excuses! I will get more CDs made as soon as I can!
Love you all - Have a great day! -
Booked Sam in for a haircut next Tues to try and even him out a bit , bless him! Its harder to get in withhis hairdresser than it is with mine. Guess he will have to look like a shorn lamb for a while to try and lose the join between short and long.
Here he is today, being still because he is being bribed with a chocolate digestive! -
Tracy -
Welcome back!
debbie -
Sam is just the cutest little thing!
Victoria -
I agree...tiny tumors w/node involvement and then large tumors w/no node involvement. How can this be?
Kelly -
The perspiration problem on your bc side - could that have been due to er+? Just wondering...it's strange though...
EVERYONE -
Even in the other forums and threads, it seems there's an overwhelming amount of more left side bc than right. I wonder why! Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...I can't believe how quickly you have all responded to the bc stats form! Truly an incredible and determined bunch of gals! FYI - you may be doing this but just in case...I am copying and pasting the posts with the stats into a word processing program. Then printing them out from there. It's working really well, although I increased the type size to 14 pt. because now that I'm "middle-aged" (clearing the throat)...my reading eyesight is not that sharp! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....LOL
Laura -
I wonder about the left side also. I was going to say maybe had something to do with driving and the sun coming in on the left side of the car but I realized that Debbie also had it on the left side....hmmmm is right...
Tracy, so glad you had a good time with your friends!! And so glad to hear about Dave as well!!
Debbie - Sam looks great!! Yea! He is almost cute enough to make me want a dog...almost...
Laura - thank you for putting all of this together! I know you're a busy lady!!
Kelly - how unusual about the perspiration problem - makes you really wonder!!
Ravdeb - you're so kind and thoughtful!! Your friends are so blessed to have you!!!
Ok, better go...good news - the kids just have a virus, no strep! -
Can't do the survey right now. I'm a right side. BUT, I am left-handed. Amy are you left-handed? Might there be any link between hand dominence and the side of your breast cancer? I say this because I have been surprised at some other links with handedness and different traits and conditions.
I'll be back later.
Mary
