Sue, I have about 30 minutes left at work but Jule said she would post it when she got home. I have sent it to her e-mail account. If I had your's I would have asked you to do it. I have a great knowledge of plants except how to keep them alive Surprised. Our pastor's wife is also great with plants and I have helped around the church with the gardening, that is where I have gotten some of the starts for my yard and she tells me what to do with them.

Sue-shepherds pie, I have heard of that and it sounds yummy.....my daughter make what she calls a fake shepherds pie, but Im not thinking it tastes as good as the real thing.....her's has tomatoe soup, milk, burger, green beans, stewed tomatoes all cooked together then baked in a mash potatoe shell with a little cheeze I think....I tried it and wasnt too thrilled but her family loves it......Anyway you would give me the "REAL" receipe?

Karen-we had that sideways snow here last night, but it didnt stick....today is bright and sunny but a cold wind is blowing....if you have snow this time of day it should hit here early tomorrow morning Im thinking.....hope it snows buckets in the mountains as Im going for my last weekend of snowboarding for the season!!!!!

Sheila-wild roses are really hard to kill!!! we have them here as well as wild blackberries......buggers are near impossible to get rid of.....I pretty much stick to roses, bulbs, grow a small vegi garden, and have a berry patch that has strawberries and raspberries in it....

Sue-happy to hear that you just rested today.....also happy to hear that Zippy is feeling better.....I have a set of cocktiels that he would likely spend his time chasing around the house if he were here with me!!!!!! Joey is a pied (yellow/white/grey) and Lucy is the typical grey...Ive had Joey since he was 7 wks old and small enough to curl my fingers and hide him in my hand....Lucy was about 8 months old when I got her...I felt so bad about leaving him home alone when I went back to work full time so got him a girly...she isnt as personable as Joey......you would love Joey except he gets a little lippy once in awhile.....I taught him to talk and just like a kid, you wish you hadnt!!!!!!

    Hugs

It was Easter and he always wants the biggest chocolate bar he can find, I guess I can't top that one. And no it is not real, it is a bench painted to look like a kit kat bar. He sent it to me with the caption 'give me a break . . . in Oman'. I thought that it was so funny I had to share it with my friends. I am on my way home, catch up with ya'll tomorrow.

I have not seen any of my tulips, daffodils, hyacinths or crocuses yet..but that is probably a good thing...because they would all freeze!

I don't have much of a green thumb at all. But I do love flowers and how they look.  I have alot of trees on my property, so if I buy flowers for the summer, they have to be shade flowers.  I have not bought any for several years.  Just something I can't seem to find the money for.

Well...doctor's appt went well.  He said my headaches are from tension!! Go figure.  I thought I was relaxed more..but I think at night...when sleeping I am tense.  That is why I am waking up with them.  He gave me a scrip for muscle relaxers. He also have me a whole bag of samples of the effexor that the oc originally perscribed, but my insurance would not cover.  He said, he thought that would be better for me than the other. Easier on my tummy.

Well....I have been so tired all day.  I went running this morning...and I think it wore me out.  I have to go to bed before 8pm tonight...I have to be at work at 4am tomorrow...YUCK!!

I am watching Jonathon Edwards..the medium....so good, very interesting.

    I'll check back in later.

Hope you all enjoy the pic of Sheila's handsome son!!

    xoxo

Here's the recipe I use for shepherd's pie.  Not as authentic and "English" as Sue's (which sounds yummy, by the way, Sue), but it's easy and quite good.  Thank you Rachael Ray!

    30 Minute Shepherd's Pie
    Recipe courtesy Rachael Ray
    Show: 30 Minute Meals
    Episode: Soul Soothers
    30 Minute Shepherd's Pie

2 pounds potatoes, such as russet, peeled and cubed
2 tablespoons sour cream or softened cream cheese
    1 large egg yolk
1/2 cup cream, for a lighter version substitute vegetable or chicken broth
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, 1 turn of the pan
1 3/4 pounds ground beef or ground lamb
    1 carrot, peeled and chopped
    1 onion, chopped
    2 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup beef stock or broth
    2 teaspoons Worcestershire, eyeball it
1/2 cup frozen peas, a couple of handfuls
    1 teaspoon sweet paprika
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves Boil potatoes in salted water until tender, about 12 minutes. Drain potatoes and pour them into a bowl. Combine sour cream, egg yolk and cream. Add the cream mixture into potatoes and mash until potatoes are almost smooth.

While potatoes boil, preheat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add oil to hot pan with beef or lamb. Season meat with salt and pepper. Brown and crumble meat for 3 or 4 minutes. If you are using lamb and the pan is fatty, spoon away some of the drippings. Add chopped carrot and onion to the meat. Cook veggies with meat 5 minutes, stirring frequently. In a second small skillet over medium heat cook butter and flour together 2 minutes. Whisk in broth and Worcestershire sauce. Thicken gravy 1 minute. Add gravy to meat and vegetables. Stir in peas.

Preheat broiler to high. Fill a small rectangular casserole with meat and vegetable mixture. Spoon potatoes over meat evenly. Top potatoes with paprika and broil 6 to 8 inches from the heat until potatoes are evenly browned. Top casserole dish with chopped parsley and serve.

I also need to learn to cook for one....Ive always had a houseful and now that its just me Im having a hard time adjusting down to smaller sizes so often find myself having a bowl of ceral or a salad for dinner instead of really making anything....

Awwwww Sue, you can come to live with me anytime :)

Ive already seen the pic of Sheila's son and think he's a hottie. That bench made into the candy bar is hilarious!!!...

Jule, I am with you on not liking to cook for 1. Since my hubby is gone all week long and I live 1/2 mile from the office I find myself eating more sandwiches or salads or eating out more. There is a great small restaraunt not far from the house that on Thurs and Friday have meal specials, 1 meat, 2 veg sides and drink for $5.00. Then when he is home on the weekends we are running all over the place and I don't have time to cook.

I will look to see if I have a better pict of my son when he is not acting a fool.

    Hi ladies,

Well it sounds like most of you are empty-nesters trying to handle downsized households. I WOULD be in that position, but two of my adult brothers decided to move back into the family house last week, and we've had to deal with organizing a new routine of cooking, cleaning, and shopping for a larger group.

Before they moved in, it was just my dad, my daughter, and myself (with lots of room left when my son moved out a couple of years ago). Now, along with themselves, they bring their children (they're both divorced) on occasion, so we can have anywhere from three to eight people to feed at a meal, and sometimes not much notice. My sister, who has been visiting and helping me with my illness, will return to her home next week, and we'll be on our own. She's been the steadying influence, stepping in when something starts to spin out of control (like dinner prep...everyone has their own idea of what makes a great meatball, LOL). It means I have had to do the cooking less, so when I do, I enjoy it more.

I think the only saving grace is that I haven't been engaged in their squabbles. It's like water off my back. I mean, really, what does it matter where we put the fake ficus tree? Just don't throw out my 40 year old pants suit. It's a relic of my teen years and may be a great costume some day.

Ah, don't you know....everything they want to throw out is mine? They have brought in no less than FIVE TVs, and they want to throw away two of mine because they're not HD.

Hey, I'm all for cleaning house, but fair is fair. They're the ones who messed up financially so they can't afford their own place anymore, although it has been couched in a story that they are doing this to help me after my sister returns home. So I really think I shouldn't have to throw away some of my sentimental treasures. They should get rid of theirs. At the very least, have a garage sale or take it to an exchange, don't just pitch it.

I checked out the "making do with less" thread and it looks very interesting. One thing we're always lacking is storage space. We have one backyard shed full of stuff (seasonal and things from my household after my divorce eleven years ago), and my father is talking about getting another just for my brothers. Need more room...build a shed, that's how my father deals with it. We're going to look like a summer bungalow colony.

    Nancy,

It must be hard for you giving up your space.  I'm sure they are thinking - hey we're family - so it shouldn't be a problem.

You have had enough upheaval in your life recently - you certainly do not need more.

    Good Luck.
