Oh Lisa 3 boys, I sooooo empathize with you. I'm sporting a re-run drain this week. I hate it!!!! The pain has lessened since my weekend fiasco, but now I still walk around like a granny. I am now gun-shy for my recon.

3boys-did I miss something? Why do you have a drain?

Starfish-Right with you with the debt. Before bc we were debt free except our house. We are still taking the cruise but we have an inside cabin and will be sleeping in bunk beds with our 2 boys on our 10th anniversary. We just really need to get away as a family.

Lori-I was dx at 45 last year. I had TAC. So did LisaSDCA. I finished in December and an still trying to recover. No rads though. I think we had nine people at our last lunch.

Hey girls there are a couple of ladies coming into San Diego in November. I told them about us and to come here for updates on our luncheons.

Pretty soon we are going to have to book a banquet room.LOL.

I'm so sorry to read some of you have had complications since I last posted in here. But you are all so lucky to have so many "sisters" locally to lend a helping hand or an ear. So far I only know of one other person from Oklahoma through this board. I can still taste that wonderful meal I had with you guys.

Marine son is doing fine. Getting a lot less letters from him now but he says he's busy being a scribe for the new platoon he's in and has a very aggressive pt pushing him everyday. His days are flying by now for him and has been in his new barracks since the day after his succesful run. He said he's already seen where he will be living next when he gets back from his 10 days of leave. He doesn't know why but the guys in this platoon won't talk to him, they aren't friendly at all. I'm guessing maybe because he wasn't with them from the beginning so they feel like he's an outsider? When he gets home he will probably have to confront his ex-fiance to see about getting any of his stuff back from her. They were living together before he went to boot camp and she sent him a "Dear John" letter within two months of him being gone. Like I said this son has gone through a lot to become a Marine. He had to overcome his ADHD to get in the first time he went to the same boot  camp a few years ago. He had to go off his ritalin with a doc's permission to see if he could handle his ADHD and he did well.  He had injured his ankle in the SD boot camp and their was a mix up in his contract thanks to his recruiter that he couldn't stay past 90 days in boot camp so they discharged him saying he could come back in a year to  try again. He waited 2 years and decided to go back in and you know the rest of the story... he has really overcome alot to become a marine!

How funny we have lots of Lisas on here!

SoCalLisa - So you took Arimidex and you are having no problem with the Fosemax?  I'm so happy for you.  I had ALL the side effects Sally Field talks about...severe chest pain radiating to the shoulder SO severe I was eating Vicoden like candy and could NOT lay down to sleep, only sit up!  I don't even take Vicoden after SURGERY!  NO DOCTOR could tell me what was wrong.  They did a colonoscopy, endoscopy and every heart test you can imagine.  I took MYSELF off the Actonel and the pain went AWAY!!  I have had to diagonose myself for SO many things...another being I had such bad lower back and leg pain for 2 years (before the BC) and NOBODY could tell me what was wrong.  I went to doctor after doctor and finally my chiro said...let's try orthodics in your shoes....well that helped 75% so I realized it had to be SCIATICA.  something THAT SIMPLE and nobody could tell me.  I blame my BC on that 2 year ordeal.  I was really into working out with Zumba and was in SUCH great shape and it all came to a screetching halt.  ...enough about me now...

Everyone - Did you all see GMA this morning with Robin Roberts?  She's on her 2nd chemo she had yesterday and is sitting in front of that camera.  She was getting weepy though....anyway she had Dr. Tim Johnson on and they are answering all the MYTH questions about BC so here is the link, check it out!

Brenda - have you had some problems since your TAC?  You say you're still recovering since December?  I know it took an AWFULLY long time for my hair to come back that's for sure.

    Lori,

The TAC was very hard on me. I started it after a bilateral with immediate tram recon. I think having the surgery just 6 weeks before starting TAC was just to much.

Anyway I just feel much older than I did before all this happened. I am on Femara and also had an ooph so it is hard to say what has caused what anymore.

I do feel better with each passing day usually. Hope you are doing well. You can pm me anytime if you want to discuss it further.

    Hi All,

I haven't posted for a while...but I wanted to be sure you kept a place warm for me at the get together  at the end of this month. Chevy's - Someone posted the address - thanks!

Please tell me if there is a change of date or time. Otherwise I'll be standing in the center of the restaurant calling plainively - "sisters?...sisters?" And then management would have to come take me away. Awkward.

Dh and I will be down there for that weekend - for this, isn't he the best? - and at the same time we figured it could be our celebration of End of Chemo, and our 28th anniversary (which passed last month without even take-out chinese!)

I'm so looking forward to meeting you all. (And my husband is looking forward to the nap I promised him he could take uninterrupted in the hotel room while "the Girls" met and talked "Girl"!)

I was hoping to join you ladies this month, but I'm going to Santa Cruz for my friend's memorial service. Onc. said it's okay to fly since it's the day before my last chemo. Still a bit nervous though. Have fun and maybe I'll make it next time.

    Kaye-Looking forward to meeting you.

Eve-I really hope you can make it next time.

I think this may be the biggest luncheon yet. As we get closer we will need a head count for reservations.

I can't wait. I want to see LisaSDCA's new body too. How you feeling girl?

Hey Starfish, I am so sorry you had a setback.  Dang disease!

And Lisa, I wanted to come and help you, but it sounds like you did okay.  What a dork, I thought of you and then my mind went blank.  That God for our Bonita Lisa!  Her brain works!

Sounds like we will have a good group this month.  I think, if y'all agree, we might shift around the table once or twice (after the main food plates are removed) so we can talk to more people!  What a glorious dillemma!  A LARGE group.  I love it!

Hugs to all and see you soon, Shirlann

How are you doing LisaSDCA? You better be ready for a luncheon in 2 weeks. I can't image one without you. SoCal is going to bring you whether you like it or not.

Hey, I am definitely going to be there! I am not yet driving, but my goal is to be doing so by Friday of this week, so I'll be mobile with more than a week to spare.

It indeed feels like has been forever since we gathered in Old Town.

Thank goodness I had a visit with SoCalLisa in the meantime or I'd be in withdrawals. She came and made sure I made it through my caregiver transition day that first Monday after surgery. And she revived me with genuine, homemade Italian Wedding Soup. Did I ever feel pampered!

I am only taking an occasional half dose of pain medication so I know that by the 28th I'll be feeling terrific. As far as a "new body", well it certainly is different. My surgeon was able to give me my same size even though he had threatened me with teensy ones if I kept losing weight. I expect them to moderate a bit as the swelling goes down and Stage II is done. Belly is no problem at all.

I just can't wait to see everyone and to meet our new people, too. I hope Lisa(3boys) and Lisa(starfish) have both become drain-free again, too! No more complications for us!

    hugs,

    Lisa

    Hi everyone,

LisaSDCA - It's so good to hear from you.  I've been thinking of you.  How's the recovery?  You sound good (via bulliten board anyways)!

I saw my surgeon today and I am still drain free.  I go back Friday and hope to remain that way.  Brenda - you were asking in one of your earlier posts about my drains.  You were so far down at the other end of the table that we didn't get to talk at the last luncheon, but I had my mastecomy and lymph node dissection on 9/6 and the drains removed 2 weeks later, but I keep accumulating fluid which needs to be aspirated once or twice a week.  Me and my surgeon are getting to be really good friends.

As of right now, I start chemo again on the 25th, but as you all know, my treatment plan seems to change frequently.  Hopefully I'll be in good enough shape to make the luncheon.  I think I will be Cool

I'm already thinking ahead to reconstruction (though it seems so far off), so I hope those of you who have gone through it will share your experiences.

    Can't wait to see everyone,

    Lisa #3

I am planning on being in San Diego the weekend of the 26 - 28th.   I would love to join you all, if I'm not imposing.  You seem like such a warm and wonderful group.  My daughter has had the pleasure of meeting Brenda and Melia already and I have looked forward for months to meeting them as well.  Where and when are you meeting?

    Hi lini -

We'd love to have you! We welcome guests and any new members - no imposition at all! We are a warm and wonderful group, aren't we, ladies?!?

We are meeting on Sunday this month, the 28th at 11:30 at Chevy's Diner, located at 2730 Via De La Valle Del Mar, CA 92014 (858) 793-8893

Lisa#3, I can't believe you are still having to be aspirated twice a week, poor thing - but I guess that's a whole lot better than emptying drains twice a day! Do you know which chemo cocktail you'll be starting if you do begin on the 25th? Is this the 3rd start date they've given you or am I behind on the count? Undecided I'll be crossing (numb) fingers that you feel up to joining us, even if you just order mashed potatoes.

My recovery is moving along well, thanks, but my stamina is still missing in action. I have had good progress on range of motion exercises, but the numbness is more extensive than I expected. What can I say? This whole cancer thang has been an adventure!

    Counting the days,

    Lisa

Lini-Of course you can join us you silly thing. I can't wait to meet you in person.

Lisa #3-I am sorry I did not realize you had surgery. I had to get my tummy aspirated every week for several weeks after my tram. The fluid just kept filling up.

LisaSD-So happy are on the mend and ready to get together.

    Missing you all.

    Hello everyone,

Sorry I will not be able to join you this month for the lunch---we NEVER do anything on Sundays with football season here---but our daughters are taking us to see Jersey Boys....but I was wondering if anyone was going to be in Balboa Park this Sunday Oct 21st for the American Cancer Society Walk? My oldest daughter, Cheryl has pledged to walk--so my husband and I are planning on doing it. Hope the OLD feeling (Arimidex)hips and knees hold out....my days of 12 minute walking miles are over...but it is OK!!!---I'm here!

I'll try to attach a link so you can see my daughter and her very special canine friend --Boden (means EARTH in German).See you next month... Sylvia-sorry you won't be joining us for lunch. We will miss you. I even thought about having a margarita with you next time. Well there is always November.

I won't be in Balboa Park. My son has a musical show that day. Good luck with the hips and knees. I have been walking almost 4 miles a day most days now. I still ache but I like to do the walk.

    Five!

How's everyone doing with this fire.  The school my 2 older boys go to closed today, so I kept my youngest home more for my peace of mind than anything else.  I don't understand why SD Unified didn't close with most of the rest of the city and county schools.

My brother in Ramona was evacuated and some other friends in RB.  I can't believe they are asking everyone north of 56, east of 15, west of 5 and south of Del Dios to evacuate.   That's such a huge area.  It's like a repeat of that fire 4 years ago.

We lived in La Costa during the Harmony Grove fired happened and were evacuated for that one.  It's absolutely frightening.

    Stay safe everyone!

Nash-I was worried about you this morning. Glad to hear you are O.K. I hope that is still the case. These fires are crazy today. I sure hope you can come to our luncheon next week.

We are O.K. in Vista so far. We have made some preparations since they started evacuating Fallbrook. Hopefully it won't get this far. The motor home is ready if it does.

SoCal-How are you doing? I heard some areas of Chula Vista were evacuating. I hope Bonita is O.K.

I pray all my other San Diego sisters are doing O.K..
