Don't make plans to shop at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets, they just had voluntary evacuations there and most stores are closed.
-
I've been worried about you San Marcos and Vista people and earlier they were talking about Olivenhain, too! In the past couple of hours it has suddenly picked up into a major wind event here in the flats of South Kensington, so I can only imagine what it's like in the hills and canyons. So long as they are using Qualcomm (right down the hill) as the major evacuation Center, I guess I have no worries.
For folks who don't do TV (or who get tired of it) here's a useful site:
http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/dmpr/emer/index.html
This sort of episode really makes you review the (usually hypothetical) question "If there was a fire and you had to run, what would you grab first?"

Stay safe San Diego girls. I was in Carlsbad yesterday and couldn't believe that it was actually hotter there than here in the 909.
Pictures, videos of the kids, and important papers, after the dog, of course. That's it.
-
We are still O.K. in Vista. The smoke is getting bad though. We aren't getting enough information about Fallbrook. That is the one that is a concern to us.
I have the pictures, papers, kids, their clothes and the dog ready to go. The motor home is ready if we must drive out. I guess I should pack some clothes for me and dh now.
-
We're packed up in San Marcos, too. I'm with ya' on the Fallbrook fire, Brenda. They say it's moving fast, but there's not a lot of info. Thanks for the link, LisaSDCA.
It's going to be a long night!
-
SIX! - most likely. We have reservations at a hotel down there...but if it's smokey and the air is filled with ash (and if the place isn't even there anymore!) we may cancel...It's all going to depend on if they can get control of these fires.
...I'll know more Thursday pm (the deadline to cancel the reservation).
-
Nash-still not a lot of info on Fallbrook. I have not seen one media person report from there yet.
Kaye-Things should be fine by next week. Where is the hotel you have reservations at located?
We are still hanging in at our house. We will leave as soon as they say we should if we should.
I will more of you would check in. I would like to know how you are doing during this tradegy.

Hi--We are OK too..in Shadowridge(Vista) but daughter in LaCosta was in a voluntary evac zone...chose to stay last night. Other daughter is in Oceanside - College near Oceanside Blvd and OK for now too. I did work yesterday as my Company (LINCARE) had many emergencies with our pts. Have not gone in today---maybe later to answer phones...if pts have to evac--they are forgettting or unable to take their concentrators and oxygen tanks and then calling us to redeliver equipment and it is just a nightmare for alot of people.
Take Care,
Sylvia
-
Sylvia-Thanks for checking in. Glad to hear you are O.K.. I was thinking of you yesterday when they announced the voluntary evac of everything south of 78. Glad your family is O.K. as well. I hope LaCosta stays safe tonight.
-
Hi, Eve:
I know that your friend's memorial service will be a rough time for you, but I pray that it will be a peaceful service.
I hope you can join us in November!
-
Hi Ladies,
I am fine; we live in Olivenhain and have been evacuated since Monday. My husband just called (I am at work) and said Lone Jack is open again though, so I think we can sleep in our own beds tonight!
See you all on Sunday. Stay safe everyone.
Melia
-
Melia-Good to hear from you. Glad you are O.K.
O.K. I think I have 7 so far.
Nash how about you?
-
We are back from the shelter..the house is still here...but I am keeping my car packed ....See you on Sunday...where are the coupons??
-
Hi gals, we are all fine, Walt and me here in Mission Valley, my son in Rancho San Diego was worried, but they seem okay now. Two other sons, one in Point Loma and one in BayHo, they are fine.
What a horrible disaster, sure a lot of nice people helping out, though. I think this will go as well as can be expected, with so many people involved.
Giant mess. So many poor people losing their homes. Fortunately, not too many lost lives this time.
See you all Sunday, hugs, Shirl -
That makes 8 because lini says her trip to San Diego is cancelled because they need the hotel room for evacuees. Bummer.
Shirlann and SoCal-Glad you and your family got through O.K.
I unpacked and stayed inside all day again. I am beginning to feel like a caged animal. I must get out tomorrow.
-
We're fine. Schools are closed until next Wednesday (!!!!). Oy. My kids are starting to get punchy.
My mom missed chemo this week b/c the cancer center was closed Mon/Tues, and since she gets weekly chemo, she just has to wait until next Monday to get more. I'm on schedule for chemo today, so off I go....glad to hear everyone's house survived and that everyone's OK! Sorry I can't make it Sunday--will be too barfy and drooly to move out of my recliner. Hope you guys have a great time, though!
-
I'm still planning on coming down Sunday. A special trip to meet my bco friends. I'm leaving at 9:30 so I should be there by 11-ish. Save a seat for me!!
lini
-
Oh, lini - wonderful! That's dedication for you! Kaye, will your reservation still be honored?
I'm relieved to hear that both melia and SoCal are safely back in their still-standing homes. I did not even pack up, though I did make a list.
And where were those Chevy's coupons?
Lisa
-
Here was our home away from home...
My own bed at home certainly is the winner!!!!
-
Hi, SoCal:
I just checked my coupons and they expire the day before. Sorry!
-
All of my and DHs fat clothes, and both of my sons' old, but very good clothes are on their way today to San Diego. My friend has a sister who lives in Rancho Bernardo with lots of family, friends and neighbors that have lost everything. I hope my stuff helps a little. I
-
Lini-I am so happy. I thought when you mentioned you couldn't get your hotel room that you would not be coming. Sorry I was talking for you. I can't wait to meet you.
That's 9. We should be hearing from Kaye soon.
-
No problem, Brenda. I wasn't clear. No fancy convention with my sister that I was tagging along to, but I can still drive down. Was in Fallbrook on Saturday and came home that night. Was back in Carlsbad on Sunday running forgotten car keys to my daughter on Sunday and came home that night. Another trip to Del Mar on Sunday to meet some ladies I've been waiting to meet for so long will be worth it.
-
Hi Everybody,
Yes, our reservations are intact. They gave us until Friday am to cancel - and really, it hinged on what stage the fires were in, and what the air quality might be at that time, (and if Nash and Eve were going to escape to my house in La Quinta to avoid Qualcom!) So, according to my caluclations, Lord willing, I WILL be at lunch (Still Chevy's in Del Mar, right? Nobody changed the location while I wasn't looking, did they?)
-
That makes 10. Wow what a group. So glad you can come Kaye.
O.K. I will call and get a reservation for 12 just in case more show up than I counted. I will put it in under Brenda.
Chevy's in Del Mar at 11:30 this Sunday the 28th. Can't wait. No dumb o'l fire is going to stop us.
-
Yikes, they fertilized the orange groves next to my house. Between the smell of chicken poop and smoke, I might be too sick to my stomach to eat. It STINKS around here!!
-
YIPPEEE, the good thing is, at lunch, they are always glad to see any number. And if we have to go to 2 tables, or if the table is in a long line, we can trade places around after the food is gone. Darn, we just may HAVE to order dessert! Can't wait, hugs, Shirlann
-
Made the reservation today. We are all set. They seemed very happy to get it.
-
Brenda..muchas gracias...hasta la vista
-
There are Chevy's coupons in the paper this morning. They say only one per party but maybe they will honor more for us. See you there.
