Well, shoot Judy I'm sorry to hear about your foot. Like everyone said, the Trolley is the way to go. With Trolly gifts and a birds-eye-view, you got it made (except for the toe of course).

I have another friend of a friend who runs some of the parking structures. He said there is a huge structure off of Saint Antoine behind Ford Field. It could be the same parking Irene suggests since Montcalm loops around into Saint Antoine.

His other suggestion is the parking for Hockey Town. I'm nervous about that one since I already know that Ford offers breakfast for their employees at Hockey Town since it is reserved. He claims they cannot reserve the parking but I DON'T KNOW, we'd be competing with a big heap of people.

I don't know Detroit and can get lost anywhere. How about we follow Irene's directions? (He he - it's your fault if everyone gets lost!)

So, look at this map and see if all of this makes sense?
    http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result.php?q1=Saint+Antoine+St%2C+Detroit%2C+MI++48226%2C+United+States

So far, no more mention of rain Juanita. Indiana isn't that far, you should join us! You make me want to go and water my plants.

It's going to be very hot. Not to mention how hot it will be with long pants!

I got email from the Komen people and I'm hoping everyone got the same. It has the race day schedule and other things from the main web site. If you want a copy, let me know.

I'll try and get online a few more times tomorrow. Sorry to be awol. The pharmacy filled my DH's prescription 4 x the required dosage. It could have been fatal. He is fine now!

I called Hockey Town and increased the reservation to 25. Let me know if that isn't enough. I'll look through the posts and find where I updated the list!

If it's not to late, sure I'm up for Hockeytown after the race. My husband Tom too. Sorry for the late reply. We've been out of town, and not able to check messages. I'm looking forwaard so much (and with excitement) to our team walk on Saturday.

Now Nancy, it won't be MY fault. It will be JOE'S fault. And if he's wrong, he'll never hear the end of it.

I did get the email. Now that I know who will be hosting the opening and closing ceremonies I know which news programs to tape. Now it's just up to my chemo brain to remember.

Nancy - That's scarey. I'm glad you DH is okay.

I'm going to try to find a pair of light weight pants this afternoon (assuming my boss doesn't mind me leaving early). Wish me luck.

Okay for the parking...between John R and Brush on Montcolm. I told my troops to be there by 7:00...ugh...it will be an early day!!! My mom and dad will be walking...my dad with the dark sunglasses as he just had cataract surgery on Wednesday. I believe he might be the senior member of the team (76) and he will look like it with his dark sunglasses and pirates patch...don't tell him that though!!! My mother is my surrogate survivior and proud to be so. For those of you who don't know the story...my new company has a team (with my boss) and no one knows of my C. I felt discriminated against from my old company while going thru tx...hence why I don't want the new company to know. I am looking forward to seeing you all...and for those of you MI ladies that can't be there...we have you in our hearts. I will miss Fancy...

I'm good for getting at that parking lot at 6:30 and there will be three of us heading to the Team Meet lot between 6:30 and 7:00. If a group makes it that early, walk with us or wait until 7 and walk with NotMe's group.

Coming back after lunch - I think we should all walk together back to the lot since that is when the sidewalks start to close up and get scarey.

So, "icksnay" on mentioning NotMe and her real name so there is no connection there and also, Sphynx and Nancy! Just call me Nancy if you remember later! I'll be driving in with my "big boss". No big deal if forget for me but let's be sure we don't call NotMe - NotMe! Everyone knows her real name, right?

My DH is fine now but with HIPPA laws, I had a terrible time finding out what was wrong. I am obsessive about making sure everyone has permission for both of us to discuss our health but his doctor conveniently lost that AGAIN. DH only hinted that he asked for a generic and his medicine looked very different.

See everyone soon! I'll keep checking the posts today.

Just a note to say I am going to miss you all tomorrow but know I will be there in spirit. Again, my little granddaughter's birthday is today (6/15) and we are travelling to Milwaukee today to celebrate it with family. She will be a whopping 2 years old!!! Please know how much I want to be there with you all. I have all my team "stuff" so I am an "official" member even tho not there in person. Have a wonderful walk and a super lunch afterwards.
    God speed,

Ok, I'm doing a last check also. If anyone has a hat with an adjustable strap, can I trade? Quit your laughing - especially you Kats. Mine is too big for my little head!

I'm hoping Kats brings extra safety pins. (She thinks of everything and had them last year). They only put 2 in the packets and that won't work if we get the other signs "in memory of" and "in honor of". If anyone sees this post before the race and has any laying around, please bring them!

    See you soon!

I have an adjustable pink hat from a cancer 3 day walk if you'd like to try that...I'll bring it just in case.

I had a lot of fun yesterday! Although the heat totally wiped me out. Next year I'll have to be sure to bring water and eat a better breakfast. Either that, or break my foot again so I can take the trolley.

It was great to meet everyone, and the girls were adorable.

I've looked at some of the news coverage and am shocked that the girls don't seem to have made it on. Channel 4 had a great shot of Debbie blowing bubbles, and Channel 2 had some shots of us on the pink carpet and one of Chris. Thank you, Mary, for the boppers - it made it much easier to find us!

Denise - that's why I come down by myself. I figure it's my day to do what I want without having to worry about what family/friends want to do. I figure I can be totally selfish one day a year.

Gerri - Thanks for the great directions to 75. It was the first time I'd gone downtown and actually got on 75 to get out. Luckily, they also had a bunch of signs. Normally there's a sign or two that's poorly lit and I miss them.

Nancy and Mary - Thanks again for all your hard work. I'd say it paid off and made the day a great one.

Chris - Still can't believe we're in the same industry. How weird. Small world. Please thank Bret again for carrying my bags. I'm sure he regretted it about a mile into the walk! You've definitely got a keeper!

Well, I'm off to get some yard work done before it gets too hot.

Have a great day, everyone. I'll try to get some photos up in the next few days.

Thank you everyone for making it such a wonderful day. It was great to meet the new faces and see the great support of your friends and families.

I still can't believe we were just 2 short of winning the most survivors. Next year, jon, join us! Thanks for the good wishes. Our Canadian friends, start planning now! It is something fun to look forward to. Karmanos institute won with 18 survivors. I looked at their website and cannot begin to count how many members - a couple hundered?

    http://www.active.com/donate/detroitRFTC/kdNDuric

We had 46 on the roster and 4 or more late-comers with 16 suvivors!

Those of you who drove so far to join us, it was wonderful to have you there. Mary as creative and generous as ever, Debbie, now I know why you were anxious for your t-shirt. What great ideas! Loved your scarf and shirt. I am cherishing my head-bopper Mary. It turned out so much nicer than the ones online. The little butterfly girls were too adorable and I'm hoping we got some good shots of them.

Irene, thanks for your behind-the-scene help with packing the t-shirts with me and I look forward to your professional looking photos. I'll post some also later but, they don't hold a candle to Irene's talent.

I cannot post everyone's name but would love to thank each of you for making it such a great day and wonderful team. Sorry to sound so 'commercial'! I don't want to sound like some mass email you would get from Komen. If nothing else good comes from this evil disease, I'm grateful I met some wonderful people.

Each year we figure out the details on how to handle that many people. Sorry "Race Information" put so many of you out away from the Team Meet lot. We'll learn from that and get a good team shot one of these years.

Only a handful of us are on this board so I'm hoping you will express to your friends and families how much their support means to us. Sometimes we think that 'no one gets it' if they haven't been through it. But, there have been great friends to hold our hands through this. My friend Carol was so excited that Mary let her be her "Co Survivor" for the day while I was off doing - who knows what! She kept saying how nice everyone is, which of course, I already knew that!

I hope to post more later when I get some pictures together.

To my team mates on this journey, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for suggesting and encouraging us to join your team..... I'm so grateful for the warm welcome.

Special thanks to our captain for organizational prowess and the creativity and energy spent by both Nancy and Pat to make everything extra special. It's amazing to think that we came that close to having the 'most' survivors. What a tribute to this website. Someone should communicate that to the site!!

In any case, it was great to meet those of you that I was able. Sorry that my energy level kept us from meeting some of the rest of you. It was great to get to start the walk together -- and then my body was demanding that I keep moving, or the choice was to sit it out. Arrrrrrgh. Of course that meant that we missed much of the commraderie of the walk itself -- but at least we got to start off with everyone..... and there's alway next year.

Of course in all of the excitement of getting ourselves there I completely forgot to bring a camera, so I will need to rely on those of you more brilliant to email some of the pics.... especially those taken of our whole crew behind Team Taiwan.

Wing-girl, so glad that you made the suggestion to join this amazing team.

You're all invited next year to our walk in Columbus!!! Save your head boppers!

Strength for the journey to each and everyone. The walk has rejuvinated my spirits to continue my rads countdown.

It's just what the doctor ordered!!!

Here's a nice picture of some of you ladies up by the stage.

    image

It was awesome to be part of this Team. Debbie, Bonnie & Judy (next year NO broken toe okay), it was nice to meet you ladies.

Nancy your friend 'skinny Carol' is a real riot, wish I had half her energy. Your 'big boss' lady is very nice, I think she was getting tired of hearing me yell at the girls LOL

We have a whole year to work out the 'bugs' before next year's race. Maybe plan to meet about 7:30-7:45 that way we can do our Survivor cafe shopping and get all the other goodies from the different booths before we meet up. Then we can get a proper Team picture taken before the race.

I'll have to get a leash or something for Bob shhhhhhhh!!!!!!! don't tell him I said that. He said he was waiting for me up at the stage, you'd think we'd communicate better seeing as we've been married for over 34 years LOL

    Hello friends!

It has been a lonnnnng time since I have ventured out of my hidey hole & posted here. I see some familiar friends & some new friends here, too.

Hope everyone is doing well. I am sorry that I missed the Detroit RFTC this past weekend! I can't wait to see the pictures.

Is there another breakfast/lunch/dinner gathering planned? I would love to be included.

    Hugs to all,

    Good morning.

Here's a link to Channel 2's web site. They have most of the video from their newscast on it if anyone wants to check it out. You can catch glimpses of us on the pink carpet it a couple of them.

Hey Michelle from Michigan - good to hear from you! How the heck are you? We have been meeting out in your neck of the woods so stick around and be sure to catch the next one. Nothing planned yet.

Skinny Carol said her neighbor was watching the news and saw "Wings of Hope" and the head boppers. I think she meant the sign but I'm not sure which channel!

Hmmmm - the pictures. I'll get on it.

    Hello Fellow Michigan Survivors!!!!
I just found this discussion board. I am in Kalamazoo and would love to join up with all of you sometime. Haven't met anyone yet from Kalamazoo who is in discussion boards or chat rooms. I was diagnosed in Feb 2007 and just finished chemo. Beginning rads now.
I walked the 3K here in Kalamazoo this year. We had a large group of survivors on our team and did win the most survivors award. What solidarity being with so many survivors at the Race. I have my pink t-shirt on now.
Are any of you from SW Michigan? Who is in Ann Arbor area?
Prayers to all of you, Linda

    Hi Linda,

My step-son attends Kalamazoo College-will be graduating next year. Hard to believe I have yet to go see his school! Welcome to the boards:-)

Sheesh..Michelle I was wondering where you have been? Where is that darling Judy from Plymouth? Good to see you post, Michelle.

I'm 3 weeks post-op from a TAH/BSO-it's been a tough operation..but no worse than the bi-lateral. My only issue is a bladder infection; so it couls always be worse. And, guess what? NO cancer-anywhere! Even though all the pre-testing suggested Ovarian Cancer-NONE!! I really think I had some angel in that operating room.

Glad you all made the walk-you know how I feel about Komen and the rest of ACS. But, I applaud you all, particularly on a HOT day:-)

Let me know what plans are for a get together. Larry and I will be going up to Torch Lake in August assuming all this recovery goes well. They did find a "lump" above the masectomy that I need to investigate with my onc-but could also be scar tissue.

Anyways, hope everyone is enjoying there summer. How are those grandbabies, Pat?

I can’t believe its been a week already. Anyways…I just wanted to say that my family and friends had a great time at the race. I think that they were quite surprised at how many pink shirts there were. My mom said that the most touching part of the race was when she saw someone wearing a sign that said they were doing this for their mom. My mom lost her mom to C 31 years ago and we have only just recently been able to talk about it.

I would love to see some pictures…does anyone have some to post? Special thanks to you ladies traveling up for the race, to Kats who made those adorable boppers and the sign, to Nancy for organizing the whole thing and providing the suckers (my niece and nephew loved them), and to Irene for being our media lady!!!

Anyways…next year we are going to win the “most survivor category”!!! Lets all mark our calendars now so that we can keep the date open. And I have an idea…how about using balloons (on long strings) so that we can find our group next year…and what do you think about making our own dragon? We could do our own t-shirts too…we have lots of time to think about it!

Linda…welcome to the group. Michelle…long time GF! And LorrieAnn…great news on the “no C”!!! We should all plan a get together soon…how about a pot luck picnic this Summer? It would be a lot of fun…don’t you think? Maybe we could meet at Hines Drive…it is fairly central.

All is well here…I just got back from a graduation party and am getting ready to settle down for the night. Have a good one!

Back from vacation - I should get a t-shirt for surviving week long vacation on motorcycle.

I enjoyed meeting everyone at the walk. Nice to put a face to our names on the board.

Nancy and Kats thank you for all your time and effort for a great team. Skinny Carol is a sweetie glad she was part of our team.

Judy hope your toe is healing and your big clown shoe is helping at work.

Debbie Glad you and Allen could make it to MI. We understand about the fatigue - you did a great job getting to the finish line = your a trooper. Wish we could of had more one on one time. I think by the end of the walk we were all exhausted from the heat. Are you all done with rads?

Ann thanks for holding my hand so I wouln't get lost. Any babies to cuddle lately?

I got a compliment from another group over our head boppers, they wanted to know where we bought them. She was stunned when I told her Kats made them. Another person snapped my picture cause she like the boppers.

    Looking forward to next year.

    Lorie,
You'll have to let me know if you get to Kalamazoo to visit. Perhaps we could meet up while you are here. Does he have a car to get around? K College is great. Will he be going over seas?
Sounds like you all had a great gathering. I've heard from Faith that you are a great group. I hope to be able to meet many of you in the months coming. Please let me know if you decide to have a picnic or some other gathering. I finish simulation tomorrow and then begin rads Wednesday.
This certainly has been the hottest summer I can every remember. Just gets too hot in afternoon to be outside. But we'll be wishing for this in January.
Love and prayers to all of you, Linda

WINGS OF HOPE TEAM-MATES!!! Just as you said I would: I'm finished. I'm truly 'radiating' with joy to be thru this phase of treatment.

Thanks to all for your encouragement, support and well wishes thru rads -- now extend all of that care and concern to Linda.

We have tickets tonight to see "WICKED" sent to our home over 11 months ago for tonight. Who could possibly doubt that there are angel committees in charge of the smallest of details in our lives? I'm gonna be floating into the theatre tonight!!

We leave before dawn tomorrow for our northern WI get-away. Kats do you want to come up for a visit? You're the closest.... but everyone is welcome. It's teeny tiny, but we do have an extra bedroom, with a brand new trundle bed for whoever wants to come watch sunsets over Green Bay, eat organic strawberries and go either golfing with DH or art gallery bopping with me.

We have our motorcycle up there already so I'll be on the look out for you WingGirl/WingBoy. DH bought a boat that I have yet to see -- so we're gonna be geared for serious fun, if anyone wants to take me up on it -- truly paradise: Door County, look it up. Voted one of the top 10 vacation spots in the country.

Be well. Be strong. Sleep soundly.

    Blessings to all!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I had my 3rd rad today. Scary going through simulation and first treatment for sure. Now just a bit scary listening to that noise. But it is over quickly.
I have a friend who has a recurrence of a new primary bc in other breast after 5 years of being a survivor. She is having latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction because she already had a tram flap during last surgery. She would like to chat with anyone who has had this surgery, good or bad. Anyone here have this surgery or know of someone who has? If yes, please PM me with your info and I'll have her contact you. Thanks so much.
Keeping each of you in my prayers, Linda

    Dear Linda,
Sorry you had to join our club. We welcome you with open arms. Your radiation treatments will become less scary. I understand about noise from the radiation machine - there were times I just wanted to smack it.

So sorry to hear about your friend's reccurence. You might get a better response if you go to the reconstruction thread. Just curious if your friend was taking tamoxifin?
I've been struggling on my decision to take tamoxifin because I may be at a higher risk for some of the serious side effects.

Debbie - CONGRATS on finishing rads. Wouldn't you and DH be surprised if we all showed up on your door step!

    HAPPY 4th everyone!
    WingGirl
