Hello Michigan, I just found website and was glad to see that someone had started Michigan chat. Looks like a number of you are going to the race tomorrow...good luck. I wish that I found this website earlier, but glad I did find it. Wish everyone the best.
I live in Michigan, Midland Area, and was diagnosed Dec2005, a couple surgery and finally mastectomy on left breast May2006. So, one-year survivor. Took the oncotype test and elected not to do chemo, but taking tamoxifen. I'm the first one in my family to have breast cancer, and have a great family for support (husband, 2-sons and a mom and sister that have been great). I've been very quiet about my cancer, only my boss knows at work, few friends and family. I find courage in reading everyone's story. I just don't want people feeling sorry for me or treating me different. I don't know, it's hard to explain.
I look forward to chatting with everyone. -
Welcome! Can't quite make out the name...VLJ maybe. This is a great group of girls...very friendly, funny and supportive! Actually the walk isn't until the 16th. and We'd Love to Have you join us!!!! Tomorrow, Nancy and Irene are going down to package up t-shirts. Think about it and let us know right away and we'll help get you signed up!!
Nancy and Irene: Geez, I ask if you need help and then I back out! Gotta love friends like me! Actually, I have to be with Mom in the morning..my Sister will be back around noon and then is going over Mom's. I've got your Cell # so if it isn't to late I'll give you a call and see if you are still there. I'm sorry.
I can meet on the 10th if anyone wants.........However, if possible I would like to meet Nancy earlier and get the shirts. Nancy, where do you work? Can we meet somewhere between Hartland and Pinckney? I could maybe meet you at work if it's around there. Let me know.............
Hugs,
Denise -
Nancy, No mail packet arrival yet. I may just have to pick up shirt/packet on race day. I'm in lower MI about 2 hr drive to Detroit. Looks like most of your upcoming pick - up sites are still far for me. No biggie I was hoping to alter t-shirt but I can make do.
Welcome VLJ - my daughter is a student at CMU in Mt. Pleasant not far from Midland. Sounds like you have a great family support system.
Wing Girl -
Hi all:)
Friday I started my campaign for donations at work. So far I have received a little over $300 . I was amazed at how a doller here and two dollars there has added up. Monday I will try to get to the afternoon shift crew and maybe another department or two if I have the time.
Looking forward to meeting everyone on race day! -
Here's a picture of our Team Sign (I know the lettering is crooked, just tilt your head and it looks okay LOL).
This is a picture of one of my granddaughter's in the outfit she'll be wearing for the race.
Mary -
Mary,
The sign and your Granddaughter are beautiful!!!!
Nancy, I'm going to try to get ahold of you so we can meet with the t-shirts. I'm so sorry I backed out of yesterday. It was my Mom's fault...........yup, blaming Mom!
Hugs,
Denise -
They are both beautiful Mary!
Irene and I packed up the shirts but the routine was a little different this year. They had the bags already filled with everything but the t-shirts. There is only one pin and none of the "In Memory Of.." signs. They said they were short and kept them behind the front desk. Irene and I said we would remind each other to get some on the way out. Well, yep - you guessed it. Chemo brain kicked-in for both of us and we forgot them! At least that's our excuse. I also forgot the sign even though we aren't using it. I thought we could at least use it temporarily until Mary comes with her sign. I'm hoping we can get some of the Memory signs when we get there.
Kats - RaceladyJan mentioned she "talked" to you and she is sending you snail mail. Your parking woes will be solved!
Winggirl, I tried to figure out your real name from the roster to find out why you haven't gotten your packet yet. Unfortunately, we didn't have a clue while we were there. I went back a few pages on this post to find it last night. We will figure something out. I'll write 'RaceLadyJan' and see what she can do.
Irene and I had good time packing up the shirts and were able to bag them individually after everyone finished packing up all the teams. Since I was without power yesterday at home, I was able to go out and deliver a few packages. At least my car had lights and music!
Denise - we will work something out this week. I'll send you email.
Judy - That is fantastic you are getting donations. I'm getting a few but I just posted something last week. I haven't done this before so I'm curious if I get much.
VLJ - Welcome. Many of us are torn about having work know or not. I couldn't hide it since I worked through most of chemo. But, I also changed departments and was surprised how many people thought I just had a really short hair cut! But we understand. I for one do not want to be thought of as "weak"! It is a dilemma.
Are we meeting next weekend? -
Beautiful Kats!!! It will be fun to have the girls so dressed up for our team. I am polling my people about the head boppers.
Okay...I would like to trade my small with a large. I am willing to do it at the race...or if we meet this weekend for lunch? I can meet for lunch...just let me know where and when.
Nancy...what are we going to do about lunch afterwards? -
Conniesue's friend (who is a team member) is going to try to sign up her neice today as well. I wish we had more time for the team deadline!!!
Kats-So far...I think my walkers need five head boppers. I am trying to check with the rest of them right now. Thanks! -

mary/kats, kats/mary........
love the sign, thanks for the visual cue and your grand-daughter is a gem!! thanks for getting me onto the bopper list.... you're really putting a lot of energy into our team and i for one am soooo grateful.
wing-girl & sphynx, i don't have my packet yet either.... i wonder how long it takes the mail to deliver.... if you're talking to janracequeen maybe you can inquire on my behalf as well.
i will plan to arrive to the "team area" around 6:30 that morning, and i'll be coming by way of Taylor the evening before.... i'm game for whatever lunch plans make sense for a group as large as ours.
debbie -
I sent email about packets not arriving yet to:
raceforthecure@karmanos.org
raceladyjan@wideopenwest.com and
deanna_osenkowski@hotmail.com
I'll let you know who responds and if we need to track this down.
I'm still open for where you guys want to meet after the race. I don't like the idea of having to put 50% down now if we reserve Hockey Town. This is what their site says:Quote:
Group Parties
All reservations for groups require a signed contract. The price will vary based on the day of the event, as well as on the individual needs of the group. Additional costs will be itemized for optional services. A contract will be established based on the maximum number of people that may be attending the event and a 50% non-refundable deposit and signed contract will be due 14 days from the date of booking your event. If the deposit and contract have not been submitted 14 days in advance, the potential reserved space will be re-opened. A final count is necessary to determine the final balance one week in advance. All balances must be paid in full on the night of the event, no exceptions.
If you want to just take our chances there, we could do that or go to Greek Town. I'm not familiar with anything out that way so let's figure something out! -
Nancy-I am not sure what exactly this means. Have you talked with the contact? I emailed them with no response. I could try to call tomorrow if you send me their phone number (via personal email please). Or if you would rather...feel free.
Kats-Ok...here it is...survivior pink...Chris and Connisue...all others for boppers (in Chris's group)...six. -
Hi Everyone.
Kats - Great job with the sign and with the butterfly costume. Awesome!
Nancy - I can't believe we both forgot to grab some signs, along with the actual sign. Sigh. I guess we're lucky if we got everything else right.
I think we should try Hockey Town and see what happens. It was almost totally empty last year. Hopefully it'll be the same this time. It was awfully convenient.
Are we going to try for a lunch this weekend so the majority of packets can be picked up? I'm sure it would make Race day less hectic. I'm up for it.
Irene -
I can meet for Lunch on Sunday, but go with the majority!
Hugs,
Denise -
Deanna replied about the missing packets that were supposed to be mailed and she will get back to me. If anyone else hasn't gotten their's who had them mailed, please let me know.
I'll call Hockeytown today! I'm sorry I guess I'm slacking off on my Team duties! I'll let you know what they say.
I'm good for lunch on Sunday - maybe our old haunt - Novi Olive Garden? I'm flexible this weekend so give a yell about what works for everyone.
Irene, we were having too much fun to remember to get those signs! It is nice catching up with you and I think we work good together. Are you bringing your camera to the race?
xxxooo
Nancy -
It looks like a lot has been going on lately while I've been MIA with mom issues.
I won't be able to meet for lunch this Sunday, but if you decide Saturday works I'm available early.
I'd be willing to take our chances with Hockeytown since it was empty last year. I can't imagine there won't be a place somewhere for us to eat lunch after the walk.
Thanks for all the work you gals have done with the packets, boppers and signs. I PM'd you Kats about the bopper.
Looking forward to walking this year and hoping for some good weather. I'm sure all this rain is just getting out of the way for our walk. -
Ok Chickadees... We can reserve Hockeytown without having to put 50% down! The only problem is that Ford has the whole place reserved until noon. We can head over there after the race like last year and since Ford will be emptying out, we can hop in.
I made the actual reservation for noon under my name and "Wings of Hope" and they said they can accommodate as much as we want. I gave a rough number of 20 to start and said I'd call back.
How does that work for everyone? Give a yell if you are planning on going there or not. Thanks!
I'm fine with Saturday or Sunday this weekend. We don't have to eat lunch if that takes too long. I'm game for getting coffee and something sweet. (just a suggestion) -
Nancy........Hockeytown works for me.
Gerri........I put you down for a bopper.
My granddaughter's are looking forward to wearing their Butterfly costumes (Nope, I didn't make them). They're hoping to get on TV.
Irene....If you record the news like you did last year and if they/we happen to make the news I'd love a copy like you were so kind to do last year for me.
Mary -
That would be neat if the little butterfly's get on tv! How can they resist? They are too cute.
I found a better map or they fixed the one they had online. Click on it and you zoom in. The lower left is where Team Meet is and the upper right is Hockeytown. Team Meet doesn't look far from the stage to give you some perspective from last year. Sorry, it doesn't run N/S so I didn't want to confuse you by saying look in the particular direction.

I'll start a list of team members and who wants to go to Hockeytown. We would love to have people make it who originally couldn't or others who didn't get to sign-up to the team on time. This is just an estimate of how many to make reservations for.

Bonnie and Debbie,
This is the response I got about your packet:Quote:
Hi Nancy. Debbies is pending and should go in a few days. Bonnies was mailed on 6/4.

Good to see they are on top of things. -
Thanks for checking into the packet.... hopefully it will arrive prior to the event. Otherwise I'll just have to wear a pink t-shirt and get a pink hat. Put me down for the lunch bunch. There's a possibility that my husband will be able to join us as well -- his name is Allen. If he can come then he'll get signed up that morning.... and just walk with us.
My sister-in-law and neice are thinking about joining us as well. AWESOME team spirit!!!
Debbie -
Nancy...so far for lunch...Bret, Chris, Ron, Rhonda, Brian. I just found out my dad's cataract surgery was moved up to a few days before the race...so I don't know if he will be able to walk (or drive down for that matter). Great job on getting us in the door for HT.
I'm like Geri...I can meet Saturday of this week...Sunday is ify as I have an afternoon flight out of Flint.
The race is going to be so much fun! -
Ok, got the updates.
Let's make a quick get-together Saturday then since Chris has quite a few packets to pick up, right? Can you let me know the names of those you will be picking up so I can put them in one box?
Are there some friends I should be sending email to that do not come online here?
I need help from some of the fund-raisers. I'm getting donations from work and I had planned on doing an online donation on my credit card with the name of the person donating. Of course the #$%#$%@! website doesn't look like you can do that because they include the billing name with the donation name. Is there a way around this? I don't see it and I guess I should be the one that finds this out. If anyone else figured it out so I don't go through my list of email contacts again, I'd appreciate it! -
Good morning.
I'm in for Saturday. Let me know where/when. If anyone from the north/east wants to carpool, let me know.
Nancy - Thanks for calling HT. Saturday was fun. It was nice to work with someone who knows what it's like to forget what you just read two seconds ago. And yes, I'll be bringing my camera.
Nancy - I don't know if there's a way to put someone else's name on the donation. Last year, I put all the cash and checks on the form they give you and sent it in after the Race. I lumped all the small amounts of cash together and wrote a check. The only problem with this is that everyone might not get a receipt for the tax deduction. Maybe you could make up a receipt? Just a thought.
Mary - I will be recording the news. I'll have to figure out which two stations will be the most likely to have a lot of coverage.
Chris - Don't you love flying out of Flint? It's such a breeze compared to Metro.
Irene -
Here is a suggestion, we could meet earlier this Saturday at Panera Bread in Novi around 9 or 10?
http://www.panerabread.com/cafes/find.php
We talked about going there at one time. One problem is there are two right near each other over by the Olive Garden. Any ideas? -
Packet arrived today! Wow shirt is big, working on altering it.
Judy/Rockysmom I don't see your name down for HockeyTown - hope you can join us. Great job on fundraising!
WingGirl -
Any idea which one would be less crowded on a Saturday morning?
-
Hi Ladies,
Just doing a fly-by here at the office. I'm sorry, but I won't be able to meet y'all this weekend - just too much stuff to do!
THANK-YOU Nancy, for stopping by with my packet last week. You are a sweetheart!
I plan to be at the Team meet 6:45 or so next Saturday, and also plan to do lunch with the group at Hockytown or where ever.
Hugs,
Anne
