I'm sorry to have to confirm that I won't be atthe walk this year. It is also why I'm late with payment for Kay's gifts. I just got out of the Troy Beaujont Hospital last night after spending 5 days threre for double pneumonia. I can barely walk across the room and writing this short note is going to send me back to bed again as soon as I am done. I just can't solve the mystery of how to get my immunities back. I feel so sorry about this, but it can't behelped.
Ann -
Ann, I'm sorry you are going through so much. Just take care of yourself. That is all that matters. We will catch you when you are feeling better.

I'm afraid there are many people I do not know on the list. If they are friends and/or relatives of anyone who is on this board, please give them a shout to see if I should change the reservation.
About Saturday... One of the Panera Bread locations is at 12 Oaks mall. I'd think that would be the crowded one if it is inside the mall. I'll give a call and see. Both are on Novi Road. Should I be sending email to the full list of the Komen Team? What is a good time?
Anyone see a special on Channel 2 last night about the Komen Race? I missed it but someone mentioned it to me this morning at work. -
I called one Panera Bread:
Twelve Oaks Mall
27734 Novi Road
Novi, MI 48377
(248) 449-7958 - phone
They are located inside the mall near Sears and Lord & Taylor. They open at 8 because they have "mall hours".
The other one is on Novi Rd. & Grand River. Any suggestions? -
I hate making decisions.
The earliest I could be there would be 10. Who all is coming? Maybe an email to the survivors so they can pick up the packets for their group?
Irene -
I was hoping Chris would chime in because she has a large group that I think she will be getting the t-shirts for.
Ok - decisions...
Panera in the Mall so we won't get lost at least.
9:30 a.m. (I have boat loads of work to do at home tomorrow so, the earlier the better). We will still be around for Irene of course!
I'll send the email but, I'll wait a little while in case this doesn't work for anyone!
These are the packets I still have:
Chris & Bret
Charmaine, Cindy, Danielle, James, Marty & Zachary (same family?)
Carol C. (my friend)
Jeanette E.
Connie Sue L.
Charlie S. (Bonnie's DH, I think Bonnie said he was fine with getting it race morning)
Janet S. (related to Charlie & Bonnie?)
Brian & Rhonda S. (They have a long drive)
Ronald R.
Kay & Anna (I'll hold on to until they are ready for another get-together).
Oops - I had a few on there who had their packets mailed. Don't laugh Irene! -
I can do 9:30 a.m. That works for me. Are we meetign in the mall then?
-
Sorry I haven't answered about Hockey Town. I'm all for it, but I know a few in my group have been planning on Greek Town. I think that rather than throw another option at them I'll just head to Greek Town and then scoot over to Hockey Town afterwards and visit with the group!!
Nancy, thanks for meeting me with all the t-shirts!! You all have a good time tomorrow morning and I'll see you next Saturday!
Hugs,
Denise -
I almost thought you guys wouldn't make it tomorrow. Yes, Panera Bread in 12 Oaks Mall. I'll be there at 9:30. I hope Irene & Geri still make it. They have their shirts already so I was thinking noone was showing up. Sorry you guys (email msg)! You KNOW I like your company! Conniesue is coming also. See you in the morning!
Denise - It is hard to get a crowd to all agree. My friends are still going to the Coney because that is what they do every year. The Coney is too small for all of us. My other friend is meeting someone else at Greek Town! We will still have a great walk.
Bring on the head boppers! I'll see everyone else next Saturday.
Nancy -
Nancy,
Janet S. - not related - sorry don't know this person.
Yes Charlie can pick his packet up on race day.
thanks
Bonnie -
Kats-Can we add two more boppers? I think that makes ten total.
Nancy-Opps...I forgot to give you something.
It was great to see you ladies today! -
It was great to see you guys. Worth the drive.
Dang it. I forgot too. Again! -
Chris I added 2 more boppers.
Yes, 10 total for you and your group.
Mary -
Hi northern, head bopping, eager-walkin', hope filled friends. I got an email that my packet had been shipped on Fri -- using UPS, so there's a very good chance that it will arrive before I head north!! WHOA.
Very eager to meet everyone and thanks again for the warm welcome. Hope that there's a couple of you who are 'slow' walkers..... as my rads fatigue is indeed making it's appearance. Went walking this a.m. and really ended up going in slow motion at times. Can't imagine what I'll be like by the end of the week -- but hoping for lots of adrenaline from the event itself. I've now had 21 zaps outta the 33 projected, so progress all around.
Be strong. See everyone soon. -
Debbie - Don't forget that there is always the trolley if you are not up to the walk. It is actually a pretty easy walk because the crowd is so thick, you have to walk slow. The only time I had a problem with it was when it was in the 90's one year. Bring water to in case it is hot. The trolley has goodies and the best view if you are a picture-taker. You are almost done with rads, Yay! It will go by fast.
I had a great time as usual meeting you guys at Panera Bread. I think that might be my new favorite meeting place. It was empty and had plenty of room, no wait staff hanging over you to wrap it up and get out of there! You can pretty much arrange the tables like you want. So, we should think about it for later this summer!
I am going to try to find more information about construction and parking downtown in a safe place. I'll also send email with my cell phone in case we get lost. Then, I'll call Hockeytown later today and have them add 5 to the list.
I am down to 2 t-shirts left to bring. I have my friend's and Charlie's. I also have Anna's and Kay's but we will have to have that get-together some other time to distribute those.
Less than a week left before the Race!
Detroit weather forecast - HOT!
http://www.weather.com/weather/extended/...cm_ite=CityPage -
Nancy Thank you for funding the 'head bopper project'.
I had fun making them, they're different that's for sure & we'll certainly be unique LOL
Debbie Congrats on being in the home stretch for rads.
Mary -
I have a straggler! My last niece got off her fanny and decided to register for the walk. Had to go as an individual..but she'll be there!
See all Saturday.............Hot weather means Scary White Legs in Shorts for this lady!
Hugs,
Denise -
OH NO!!!!!!! Scattered T-storms for Saturday , hope that changes.
Mary -
Well, shoot, it didn't call for that as of this morning
Everyone got a pink raincoat ? -
The Scattered T-Storms are now for Sunday, good thing (hope it stays that way) cause I don't have a pink raincoat LOL
Mary -
This is a parking lot that my friend uses every year. I think it is about $6.00 and a couple blocks walk to Comerica Park.
Also, these are the directions coming from the West side suburbs of Detroit.Quote:
96 (Jeffries) east to Detroit to I-75 north to 375 South (remember to go past the Comerica exit where everyone else is getting off!) - Take the first exit (not sure how it is marked - maybe Macomb?), turn right on Macomb - take Macomb a couple of block to Brush. That parking lot is at Macomb and Brush on the right.
The Lodge is under construction!
If we use the parking on Macomb and Brush, you need to be careful of safety. Everyone from around Detroit in the 60's and 70's probably knows that John R and Brush is a very "unsafe" area. I will not take my chances to see if that has changed in the past 20 years.
Here is a map of that area. It is not too far from the volunteer parking lot at Tiger Stadium.
http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result.php?q1=macomb+and+brush%2C+detroit%2C+mi
In case the Team Meet map got buried, here it is:
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/maps.asp
Click on it to zoom in so you can read the darn thing!
Don't even get me started about why I'm not wearing shorts even in 90 degree weather. Has it really been a whole year since we had that discussion in depth? Someone keep an eye on me in case I pass out! Some things to think about are, cold water (they seem to have warm water every year), sunscreen, sunglasses & cell phone in case you get lost!
Have I forgotten anything? Only a few days left! I hope everyone is a geeked about it as I am!
Keep checking this site or send me email. Another friend may have a better parking idea. I'll keep you posted and will send email with my cell phone.
Yay - no thunderstorms! This is Michigan, watch for unschedule frog rain, cicada's or hail. You never know!
p.s. Mary - Thank You for making the boppers and sign! You are a doll! -
NO RAIN!!!! Last I heard, maybe LATE Saturday. Nancy, why are you NOT wearing shorts???? You are the littlest one here!! I haven't been in shorts in a year.......but I think I may be breaking them out for Saturday! Not only do I have Chunky Monkey Legs........I am so White I actually Glow! Guess I'll be easy to find if I get lost!!
See everyone Saturday!!
Hugs,
Denise -
Remember your sunscreen, Everybody!!! (I'll bring my bottle in case somebody forgets.) Also, water and your camera!
I'm wearing shorts on my bleach-white legs, which means sunglasses are in order, too.
I can't wait!
Anne -
Nancy...add two more for lunch...Jan and Linda. Is this an okay place to park...or what? I think it is important that we all park in the same area.
Looking forward to this weekend! -
Bad news for me- I broke a toe and a foot bone. grrrrrr. So, the 5k walk is out for me. I WILL still be there and maybe I'll be able to catch the trolley or try the 1 mile route.
I will be heading to the festivities with my sister and BIL who volunteer with UPS. I have my map so hopefully I'll be able to find you all.
oh- also no shorts for me! I don't even have any that fit I've gained so much weight.
I can't believe I was such a klutz! and I was so psyched about this walk. -
I will also be wearing jeans no matter what the weather. I'd wear a nice comfy pair of cotton pants IF I COULD FIND ANY. Do they not make pants that come down to your ankles anymore? Argghh.
I asked one of the guys at work, who always goes to Tiger games. He said he would suggest the parking structure on Montcalm b/w John R and Brush. That's where he'd "want his girlfriend/sister to park". It's pricey, but nearby and secure.
If you're coming from the north, it'd be 75 South to Madison. Hang a quick right on St. Antoine and follow it as it goes behind Ford Field and then turns into Montcalm.
Nancy - I liked Panera also. Although my favorite is defintely Canterbury Village.
Judy - Don't feel bad! I had a broken foot for last year's walk. How did you do it? I took the trolley and it was actually pretty fun. If you hang out on the back you can get great photos. We even got a present last year. What color cast did you get? I recommend purple - it goes with most colors.
BTW, you're not a klutz until you've done it twice. The same exact way.
Irene
Hey - there's a frog on my window! -
Judy, Bummer about your toe and foot bone. I broke my little toe once by walking into a floor fan. Little sucker hurt for awhile. No cast for me but I did buy a "walking shoe" since it was to painful to wear regular shoes.
I'm wearing capri shorts. I have the ugliest varicose veins legs in MI but I don't care. Everyone will be to busy looking up at our head boopers to notice our legs - bring on the shorts ladies.
Looking forward to meeting everyone. If you see a bright orange GoldWing motorcycle - that's us.
WingGirl -
MY T SHIRT AND HAT HAVE ARRRIVVVVVEDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm now officially excited!!!! Judy so sorry to hear about your toe. The trolly sounds like a good suggestion.
My rads onc suggested I walk with my arm out at a 90 degree angle to my body (due to the burning under my arm at this point.) So I need to be on the far right side of our team: hahahahahahaha! What a suggestion. Anyhow today's #25 and counting, down in the single digits remaining. I'm sooooooooo excited to meet everyone. Trust we'll be able to find you somehow, have your cell phone numberSphynx, good idea there! Look for me I'll be the one in the pink t-shirt: hahahaha.
I really may be able to glow by Saturday. rads on rads on. -
Judy Sorry about your toe. The trolley is the way to go, last year Irene and Ann took the trolley and got some cool stuff plus you'll be able to take some pretty good pictures too.
Debbie Glad your race packet arrived.
Come on ladies NO shorts again this year, didn't we have this discussion last year? Like Bonnie said everyone will be looking at our head boppers not our legs.......at least that's what I'm hoping anyway LOL
Mary -
Okay...so what about the parking lot...which one are we going to? I need to tell the troops. I've been in Jersey all week and we have had rain.
-
Ship some of that rain back west to Indiana. We are in drought conditions. The last time we were this dry was 1988, and that year they canceled July 4th fireworks.
