Welcome Gayle, This will be my first time at the walk also. I ordered one mail packet and have not received mine yet. Thanks for the heads up on the tshirt size sounds like I will have to alter mine somewhat since I ordered XL.
Buckeye Debbie, Glad you could join us. Looking forward to meeting you along with everyone else.
Rockysmom, Haven't heard from you in awhile hope all is well over your way.
hugs
Wing Girl -
I'm a first timer too- looks like there are a few of us! Can't wait to meet everyone.
Winggirl- if you ordered an XL it'll be waaaaaay too big for you. I ordered a large and it's big on me. You probably needed a M !
I am back to work now and am so tired after work I can't believe it- ugh. Hope my energy comes back soon!
I would like to meet if there's a get together before race day. It's coming up quickly! -
Judy, Nice to hear from you, I was getting worried.
Wing Man and I are interested in meeting up with everyone after the walk. Hockey Town or where ever is fine.
Maybe after the holiday weekend we can sort of plan a itinerary of walk day. Where do we all gather before the walk starts, where to meet for lunch, etc.
Enjoy the holiday!
WingGirl -
Hello Neighbors!
Just catching up with all and see if I've missed any news about the walk!
I'm not sure what Hockey Town is....Shhh, don't scorn me! I'm sure it has something to do with Hockey...but what is the town?
Okay, those who have met me aren't the least surprised by my "knowledge" I'm sure!
Some of the family walking with me are real Party Poopers..They are really looking forward to going to GreekTown for lunch. So, I might just head over there with them for a quickie then head over to "HockeyTown!"
Nancy, I'll pm you my phone number and regular email and you can give me a shout about meeting for the t-shirts.
Welcome to all the newbies and we'll see you on the 16th.!!
Hugs,
Denise -
Maybe we should all go to Greek Town instead??? I am farily open. I just registered two more members.
-
Hi Denise HockeyTown is a restaurant that is located right at the beginning of where the race begins. Last year a group of us went there for lunch after the race. http://www.hockeytowncafe.com/default.asp
Chris Last year wasn't there talk after the race about going to Greek Town but no one was sure if there'd be a restaurant that'd be able to accommodate the size of our group? Maybe someone could check some places in Greek Town to see if there's a restaurant that would be able to.
Mary -
Here are some restaurants in Greektown. I think it is just a short walk from HockeyTown and Comerica Park, isn't it?
http://local.yahoo.com/results?fr=dd-local-more&stx=greektown+restaurants&csz=Detroit%2C+MI
I didn't get notice of the two new members for some reason. I see they are on the team roster and that is all that matters! We have 45 members.
I won't get my own t-shirt until the 2nd but Mary said it has a really nice saying on the back. I ordered a small because they don't have mediums and they seem to run very large.
Does anyone want to meet after the 2nd? I could make a trip to the Canton area and to the North like Olive Garden in Novi? Just a suggestion. Any ideas? We could meet at a mall so if you don't want to eat, you can meet and shop?
Looking at Hockeytown's website, I'm wondering if we just lucked out that they tooks us. If you reserve an area, they charge a 50% down payment and extras for it being "special days". Greektown is looking better!
Are you guys letting Mary - Kats know if you want head-boppers or if you families do?
Nancy -
Hi all,
Don't want to change anyones mind about eating after the walk! I don't know if there is a restaurant in Greektown that can accomodate or not. We'll have to check it out.
Nancy: I'd like to meet after the 2nd., then I can get the shirts for my family...wash them and see if they will shrink a bit. Except for mine....shrinking probably won't be necessary!
I can meet you anywhere (withing reason) on June 2,3,4,or 6.I'll be working in Brighton and Howell on June 5 and 7!
Mary: If you are making head boppers, we'll wear them!! Can I help with cost?
Hugs,
Denise -
I need a head count for those who want head boppers, so I have enough made for those who want them.
Survivors: Pastel Pink Butterflies unless you tell me you'd prefer not to have pink.
Family/Friends: Pastel Butterflies (purple, yellow, green, blue) & Medium Shades of blue & orange. I can't take requests for specific colors as I only have a limited number of each color.
Thanks
Mary -
Please add me to the Head Bopper (pink)list. I'd be glad to send you a check to cover the cost, so please let me know. Thanks.
-
I have a pink survivor t-shirt...size small..does anyone want to change for a large?
Mary...are we all wearing wings? -
Chris.....All I know about wings are that my 2 granddaughter's are going to be wearing them and head boppers too.
Mary -
Mary, I would like a survivor head bopper. Please let me know how I can help with the cost.
thx
Wing Girl -
Mary, put me down for a bopper! I'll email my group and see who will want them!
Nancy, didn't think to ask if you needed help picking up and packaging the shirts and packets. Let me know if you do!
Hugs,
Denise -
I'd like to purchase and wear a 'survivor/pink' head bopper to fit in with the team. I have ordered a large tshirt and could probably fit better in a small. I clicked for them to send package thru mail, but haven't received it yet..... does the tshirt come in the mail pack?
I'm soooooo excited to meet everyone. I am planning to come up the day before for the ramp-up festivities. Have just invited myself into some friend's guest room -- will see if they are to be in town that weekend.
Debbie
Get on your walking shoes!!!!
Finished my lucky #13 zappppp of the rads today!! 20 more to go..... -
Debbie I received my race packet in the mail last Friday (the 25th). In the packet is your race number, 2- t-shirts (a pink survivor one and one like everyone else wears), pink cap, cute little Detroit Komen Race For The Cure tac pin, race booklet etc. My family hasn't received their race packet yet.
The head boppers are no charge, the cost was minimal. Remember they are homemade, nothing fancy. Nancy couldn't get the ones she wanted to order for the Team and I was making some for my granddaughter's anyway.
Congrats on finishing rad #13, you'll be done before you know it.
Mary
-
I'd consider switching my large for your small, but need to know how small is the 'small'? I did find out that no mediums were offered, but didn't think the large was going to be so huge. Are you still interested in switching? Thanks.
-
I signed up awhile ago and still have not received packet. I ordered one mail packet for me, my hubby's packet we will pick up on race day.
Should I be concerned my mail packet has not arrived?
WingGirl -
Hi Everybody!
Wow - looks like I have some catching up to do!
Ann and Kay - I'm sorry to hear you won't be able to make it to the Race...you'll be missed.
Mary - I'm in for a head bop. Thanks for all the work you're doing!
This is going to be fun. I can't wait to meet everyone.
Irene -
Denise and anyone else... Irene and I are going Saturday the 2nd to pack up t-shirts for the Early Bird Special at Binson's Educational Center in Sterling Heights. We will pack up our team and then go through their lists and pack others until we drop. Anyone is welcome to join us.
Quote:
Team Packet Pick Up - Walk out with everything you need for your team! Team Packets will not be available at individual pickup sites. Team captains are responsible for pick up and distribution of all team packets.
* EARLY BIRD SPECIAL
o June 2, 10a.m.
+ Help pack up Team Race Packets and take your own home a week early. Enjoy the fun and picnic lunch provided! You must participate in Early Bird to take your team packets this day! Reserve a spot by emailing raceladyjan@wideopenwest.com or call 248-351-1861.
Location for packup and pickup:
Binson's Educational Center
25709 Van Dyke - Center Line, MI 48015
(west side of Van Dyke, approx. 3/4 mile south of I-696)
Since we will be out on the East side that day, I could arrange to meet later that day if anyone wants.
I can make it to Howell or around that area any of the days that Denise mentioned. I noticed that Elder Beerman is having a sale so we could meet in front of that store? I work so it would have to be a weekend or after 5:00 p.m. during the week.
One suggestion...anyone want to meet at the Olive Garden in Novi on the 3rd? I was thinking that the race was the following weekend for some reason. I could also arrange something the weekend of the 9th & 10th. There is the pre-race expo on the 15th in Southfield if that works better for anyone? That is a Friday but I have it off.
I will make a trip to Canton but do not know which day so if anyone has a spot and day in that area they want to meet, let me know.
In any case, I will be at Teem Meet on race day bright and early. You won't be able to wash and iron your t-shirts in advance (that's ambitious) but I'll get them to you.
We officially have 46 members with Janet signing up bright and early yesterday morning. I just received the notices in this morning's email.
I am planning on paying Kats for material for the boppers and she is saving me bunches. She won't take anything for her time! They are very cute and even nicer than the one's I tried to get online.
My friend with the "blow-up boys" (her nephews) cannot make it this year. Boohoo. Maybe we will still see her nephews.
Nancy
Looks like everyone is posting at the same time this morning. Winggirl - I wouldn't worry too much if you didn't get your packet yet. If you don't have it by Friday, let me know and I'll see what I can do to get one on Saturday. -
Mary - I'd love to have a survivor bopper to wear!
Nancy - Novi on the 3rd would be good for me.
Anybody up here on the north side want to carpool to the race? I could take 3 (or 4 if you don't mind being close) besides myself. I'll be starting around the M59 and Dequindre area.
Got my new tennies last week, and I'm countin' the days.
BTW - what time should we plan on being downtown on the 16th?
Anne -
Woo Hoo! Almost there! 46 walkers....Tina is going to check with Shel (Canada) and see if they can make it!!
Kat: Just count me in for a 'bopper'. Not the whole family.
Nancy: This one's for you..............went to the Gyn today..yup, you remember the story!! I'm supposed to go to my Daughter's Sunday the 3rd., and of course she lives in Sterling Hts., right by where you'll be Saturday! I'm going to see if we can change days so I can come on Sat. for a bit and help you guys.
Hugs,
Denise -
Mary- I would like a pink survivors head bopper too, please.
Hope I won't have any trouble finding the team meeting place! (yes, what time are we supposed to meet?)
thanks -
Mary, If possible, I'd like the following please.....
1. one bopper for myself (any color is fine)
2. my friend Carol (survivor)
3. her daughter Makenzie
4. her daughter's friend Katherine
5. her friend Mary
6. another friend Carol
7. my friend Lori
No, I don't want a "chin strap" on mine for my little head! Har Har Har- Mary!
Remember these guys from last year? They didn't join our team but they will be there again. I think it would be funny if we say Hi Robert (in green) and Randy (yellow). They will see that they are celebrities!
Maybe we can convince them to be on our team next year?
I think we should meet at the Team Meet area this year instead of the survivor tent. I'll find out where it is. I got my new tennies also and I'm all set to go.
I'll get there really early - like 6:30 a.m. (ish) Here is the race day schedule:
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/releases/Race%20Day%20Schedule%20-Features.pdf
Not the best map...
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/maps.asp
Would anyone prefer the 9th or 10th around Novi?
Winggirl - any sign of your packet yet?
Tonya darlin - where the heck are you???
Denise, you going to meet us in Sterling Hts? I'm dying to hear the new gyn story! -
Denise - That would be great if you come by for a while on Saturday. I, too, would like to hear the next installment of the story!
I could do the 9th or 10th, but not the 3rd.
Ann - I would take you up on your carpooling offer, but my Dad's having a b.day party for my stepmother that day, so I may have to leave earlier than everyone. :-( -
I can't wait to get the packet in the mail, no sign of mine yet -- but it seems like I just registered recently.
Hope that it gets here! So how will I ever find "us" since I don't know what anyone looks like -- please don't tell me to look for the pink t-shirt group.
I'm an early bird and can get to some pre-determined SPECIFIC spot ahead of time. I've never been to downtown Detroit, so specificity will be helpful. I just heard from my Taylor friends and they're opening their guest room to me, so I have a bed for Fri night: yee haaa!
OK. Tell me how to find "us."
Debbie -
I thought I would find old pictures to show you but....NO WAY! There are some under Cybersister photo album below and 'Hot Shots' under 'Click on Detroit for Channel 4 but that hung my computer.
The best way I can think of doing this is go to TEAM MEET
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/maps.asp
I will have the sign they make for us on Saturday that will say 'Wings of Hope'. When Mary gets there, we are ditching that sign and using the beautiful one she made and you can look for that. It will have butterflies and look more like the picture we have been posting a few pages back.
I will be there bright and early. What time is everyone else getting there? I think they open everything up around 6:30 a.m.
Debbie - check your private messages and I'll send you my cell phone number. I don't know how crowded the TEAM MEET area will be but we can navigate that way if we have to.
Denise and Ann - sorry it took me so long to get back to your messages. Please check them now. Anyone else want my cell phone and email address if you don't already have it, please send me a private message.
Nancy -
We have another team member even though they did not join up before the deadline. So, they won't show up on the Team roster but no matter, we will welcome anyone who wants to still sign-up as individuals and come and be with our team. I'm hoping Tonya, 3Bears & family, Shel & Tina.... all 'latecomers' are welcome! Maybe there is still a way I can talk Racelady into adding people to the official team list? I'll give it a try on Saturday at the Early Bird packet pick-up.
Nancy -
Hi all!
I'll let you know about Sat., as soon as I know! DD isn't going to be home Sat., so still planning Sun. for her house. The biggie is My Mom. I'm heading in to Flushing in a few..she isn't feeling good and we think she may have another spinal fracture from Osteo.. if so, there is nothing they can do..but she hurts so bad. I'll drug her today and see how she is!!
I'll try!!!!
Be back in awhile!
Hugs,
Denise -
Nancy---We're planning on getting there between 6:30-6:45.......fingers crossed, depending how lost we get LOL.
I couldn't find parking info on the race website, there's a link to click for maps and parking but all I saw were some maps and just a few lines about bus parking. Where are you planning on parking?
Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll get a picture of the Team sign posted so people know what to look for.
Have fun tomorrow, tell Irene I said Hi.
Mary
