Yes there was beta testing, but the migration over, especially the profiles, has created quite an unanticipated series of glitches.
We absolutely hear your frustrations. We have reported everything to the tech team. They will be working on the issues, and we know it will take time. Please report NEW glitches that haven't already been mentioned, as those have been reported.

The My Account section is enabled now with the email address along with many personal account fields set to Private. Divine, you can try to update your avatar here.
It is concerning to me that this section was disabled. I would expect these settings to be read from a data source so that updating the data source table will update the HTML automatically. The username is still limited to lowercase. I don't understand why the username validation process was changed. It may be a rogue lowercase function is setting the entered text rather than just validating case-insensitive text. This is easy to fix if you know what you're looking for.
-
I'm surprised the general look and format made it through beta testing, TBH. It's very hard on the eyes. The white background and small format makes me nauseated, like I've been staring at a screen for hours.

gb2115, I think the problem is the focus was on the landing page. I managed to get there due to a message that the community was down (which apparently it is not) and I actually think it’s quite nice. However, there are some images and the background for the section highlighting the forum is a more soothing grey tone.
I do have a question about the highlights from the Community as the avatars are visible. It’s hard for me to tell if that’s public or if you need to be a member in order to see this as the site did recognize me. It may not be an issue for folks but some use photos of themselves and may not want them to be viewed by random visitors
-
Just posting to see if my dx and treatments show up as I can’t see them in my profile. Slow system. I liked prior system when threads I have read were highlighted as opposed to the numbers of unread posts.

I am getting this message now, There are email addresses to contact them.

Was anything supposedly fixed? When I went to log in (still unhappy I have to keep doing that), I hit the log in button and after a loooong time, got a blank white page. Ugh. So I tried again, same thing. Then I figured I could maybe get around it by logging in on a forum page. So I went to Active Forums, wait wait wait wait, got the first page - and surprise, there's my avatar in the corner! So, now it's WORSE?
-
Alice, I can only find the log in button half the time. I found it easily, then it timed out when I was trying to log in. Then, the button was gone. I only figured out I was logged in when I went into a thread and found my "initial" appeared in the upper right corner. It takes like 10 clicks every time to figure out where you are on the website.

Hi all, we wanted to provide an update for you for at least one of the glitches:
We deployed a fix to the public setting for email addresses. Your email addresses were never actually public or compromised. You can verify that your email address is set to Private by going to your profile (Avatar in the top right of your screen) and navigating to your Settings in the menu on the left-side menu. Please let us know if you're not seeing this fix.
Also, to answer your question, sadieservant, the avatars on the homepage are "static" meaning they don't move and they don't change, and your log in status does not affect them. And yes, the members that we feature there have given us permission to use their photos.
Thank you all for your continued patience and feedback.

In addition, we believe we have deployed a fix to the "Access Denied" bug. If you're seeing this glitch, please sign out by going to your profile (Avatar in the top right of your screen), and navigating to the Sign Out link at the bottom of the left-side menu. Once you sign back in, this error should be fixed. Please let us know if this is not the case.
Thank you again!

Well, that was excruciating. It still takes many extra clicks to do anything - not much is straightforward anymore - and load times have not noticeably improved, so trying to do anything on the site takes a painfully long and frustrating time, especially as you hang there, waiting to see if your click will go through or not.
Mods, I took your advice and signed in to check my profile. Everything is now set to private. And everything that I had entered - my diagnosis, treatment, etc. - has disappeared.
There remains a big problem with the fact that upon signing in, Members are diverted to the home page. What this means is that if someone is not signed in but is reading the board and sees a post where they want to comment, when they click "Log in post a reply", rather than immediately landing at the bottom of the thread with a dialog box in which to post the reply (as used to be the case), they land on the home page. Then they have to click to get to Active Threads. Then they have to find the thread and click to get to it. Then they have click to get to the last post. And then they can finally post.
As for the access denied problem, "we believe we have deployed a fix to the "Access Denied" bug. If you're seeing this glitch, please sign out by going to your profile (Avatar in the top right of your screen), and navigating to the Sign Out link at the bottom of the left-side menu. Once you sign back in, this error should be fixed.". That is NOT a fix. That is an awkward work around in which you are asking users to manage the problem. What I've been doing when I've hit an access denied screen is to click the back arrow, press enter again, and I keep doing that until I get through. That's annoying but not as annoying as having to navigate my way to the sign-out link, signing out, signing back in, landing on the home page and having to navigate back to where I was.
PLEASE just shut the place down until you get it working. That's what you should have done 3 days ago. Appearance issues can be dealt with later but you need to fix access, navigation and load times.
-
Beesie,
That is NOT a fix. That is an awkward work around in which you are asking users to manage the problem.
Actually, yes, it is a fix. You should only have to log out and log back in once to refresh your settings and not see this error again.
Thanks for your input.

When I try to log in, the screen goes white and stays that way until the phone goes dark from inactivity (Android smartphone, not having issues with other websites plus good internet connection). Then I arrow back out and try to go in through the lines in the upper right corner. All of a sudden I'm then logged in, except I didn't log in, so maybe I was never logged out? It's hard to tell because I can't seem to find my "favorites" view of the forums unless I try to log in. Regardless, while trying to do this I also got the notification that the site was down, but refreshing it brought the site back.
It's hard to even tell what the glitches are because the site is so wildly inconsistent and difficult to navigate. You shouldn't have to refresh repeatedly and click things a bunch of random ways to find the message boards.
-
MODS, On the 5th (FIFTH) day of this clown show is there a way to instead of "updating" to say that you have fixed some random thing or other that makes no difference can you just say "Come back in another 5 days" or "try again in April" so we won't keep wasting time?
Enough already.

I'm having similar login issues as others. It appears I am logged out and when I go to login I get a blank white screen or momentarily see the login page before it goes to a blank screen.
I went to the main site and tried to login there where it asks for email rather than user name. It said my email was wrong (maybe it was), then I came back to the forums to see I was magically logged in.
That aside, mods I appreciate BCO, it has been an incredibly valuable resource and support community for myself and others and I know the changes were made in good faith, however, if I can be perfectly honest, the old site was much easier for me visually. This new layout feels and looks like a word document to me and slow loading and sign in issues aside, feels like it is a downgrade. I actually thought the old site was a pretty solid 10 so I don't understand the move away from it.
Additionally please take in to consideration that many users are older individuals who need more visual cues to orient themselves on websites than the new site currently offers, and while many here seem technologically savvy, for many older individuals, changes to website formats and layouts can prove a frustrsting learning curve for them.

my diagnosis disappeared from my profile. I have re-entered it multiple times, each time after hitting the final “save and exit” button, I’m taken back to a blank diagnosis page with just the “add a diagnosis” button. Why won’t it actually save my diagnosis?? All my treatments disappeared as well, I’m trying to add them back but there are two problems: 1) the dates won’t saveand 2) I’m not allowed to add some treatments without specifying what diagnosis they apply to, but I can’t because the system won’t save my diagnosis!
-
It takes time to fix stuff, especially if you don't know what's causing a specific problem when it worked fine in testing. It's also common for things to be linked in such a way that applying an "easy" fix would cause more issues later or trigger other glitches. Also remember that BCO is a nonprofit, so they do not have the kind of unlimited funds you need to make expensive changes quickly.
I'm as frustrated as everyone else but as someone who has been in the place of the mods trying to update a site people depend on, can we please report problems and express frustrations without the name-calling and insults? A major site update is already stressful enough without people insulting you and assuming the worst about your motives. And it won't help them fix things faster.

first i have to say i am disappointed in this upgrade
second- i tried to go to the trudelvy topic and its gone, when i go to select it - its gone.
my diagnosis dates, my chemo dates, my radiation dates all gone. I used this site as reference. Now its wanting me to start all over, its very frustrating to me.
this new site has made me sad.
i use chrome/microsoft
**after seeing this posted, i saw all my dates, which made me happy**
i don't understand when i logged on it was asking me for my dates?
but i am still sad about the trudelvy topic is gone.
-
I still see all your diagnosis information in your signature. So it's still there somewhere!
Edit: I checked my own profile and my diagnosis section is also blank. I used my browser developer tools to check behind the scenes and there's an error related to the profile query. So that likely means the browser tried to pull the diagnosis information and couldn't. Since the information is still showing up in our signatures, it's still there in the database, but something's broken so the page isn't able to display it in the My Diagnosis section.
-
Thanks for the confirmation on the static images Mods. Also, appreciate the fix to the Access Denied message. I think that’s why I received the message about the site being down instead. It does seem a bit more stable today.
-
nayda, was it the one called "Sacituzumab Govitecan (Trodelvy)" started by Erich with 6 pages of posts? If so it's still there, I was able to see it after two tries and then it failed again on the fourth try. The site is having trouble pulling it up for some reason.
-
I see we're still in the EIF phase of the rollout: Exercise in Frustration. The login problem continues, with the blank screen, but after trying to sidestep it by going straight to the forum pages, there's my avatar! Mods, is there a reason the avatars aren't showing on the main page, so we don't have to waste so much time on the pointless login slo-mo dance? If anything, it seemed even slower today.
-
I have to log in each time now. I had recently changed my username, but it won't let me log in with the new username (changed it a few weeks ago and had posted with it) It makes me log in with an old name. I only tried as I have my name/passwords saved on my computer and after it wouldn't let me use my new name, I tried an old one. I also can't see the text well and its very, very slow.
-
I'm not sure why the monotone color of black and white and maybe gray and all the same dull font is thought to be an improvement. It makes me come up with this scenario:
Seller: Yeah, we can give your site a re-do. Color's gonna cost ya, tho. So will a fancy font, multiple fonts and larger sizes.
Customer (scans budget, shrugs shoulders): Meh, black and white and small print should work.
-
Hi All, We know how frustrating it is. However, we kept the boards up as people do seem to be at least able to connect to one another still, despite the issues. We're sorry for all the frustrations.
-
Thank you mods for this post. It does ease the frustration for me.
-
I have to say, that this message I just received says everything.
-
My phone times-out 5 or 6 times before a page loads. Also, I can't find the log in page ever. I click around for a while until something loads, and sometimes I'm logged in.
I'm not sure if anyone says this, I can't scroll up to look without losing this comment box.
Thank you

Waited three days to log back into the problematic BCO mess, but nothing has improved, not that I expected to see problems being actively worked on this weekend, but I missed reading threads. I consistently got the message that this thread was down until I went in through the "Forum - Comments" approach. I got in, could catch up on the posts that ended yesterday, and am now seeing if I can post here! So far, so good, but will see if I can actually "Submit."
Moderators, I'm so sorry you have to hear all our complaints, but I'm not trusting when I see that "you're hearing us." Every couple of years BCO launches an unwanted, unnecessary "update" which you've had to backtrack on--the last being the bright pink look you had to backtrack on less than 2 years ago. Before that it was the ad tracking fiasco which you had to backtrack on. at one point you even asked a few of us for input, but quickly stopped that when it didn't match your ideas. You didn't hear our comments, problems, complaints then, and without explanation, BCO tried, and failed miserably again, to pull off another change. All you did was drive newcomers away, and frustrate the rest of us. EPIC FAILURE!!!
