I signed in just to check my PMs... and I can't find my PMs. I have been able to get to them since this fiasco started; I don't know what happened or where they disappeared to.

AliceBastable, that is priceless. And accurate.

Ugh. I logged in today and discovered that my signature has reverted back to what it was last November before I added all my new diagnosis and treatment information. It even reverted back to my old custom note! But my new avatar is still there. So weird. I don't know if I should try to fix it or wait to see if it will be fixed

Or is it just me? Can you all still see any of my new info?

My signature and treatments should be blank after I removed them from my account details. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Has the font size for the posts shrunk even more or is it just me?

Mods, I don't think you are responsible for this mess--it's usually someone higher up on the food chain that makes a decision such as upgrading a system. And often they have a friend whose an 'expert'. I've been through 3 of the upgrades since 2009. Personally, I don't think BCO can recover from this as I think it will take a very long time to work all this out.

It' so slow I just don't want to go through all the waiting...and it's a shame as I have checked here everyday for 13 years. This must be devastating for the newly diagnosed.

After getting the "site down" error message again several times, I took notice to see that the "BCO Tech Team" address is actually going to Amazon Web Services. Does this mean that BCO has sold this site and our personal data to Amazon? If so, I did not give you my permission.

ceanna, the bco terms of use include this

"In addition, you grant Breastcancer.org a perpetual, exclusive, royalty-free and irrevocable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, distribute, transmit, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, create derivative works from, transfer, and sell any such messages, files or communications, you recognize that your communications will be accessible to other registered users, and you waive all rights to any claim against Breastcancer.org for any actual or alleged infringement of any proprietary rights, rights of privacy or publicity, moral rights and rights of attribution in connection with your communications."

AWS is a cloud computing service. It’s a subsidiary of Amazon, but a company using AWS retains ownership of its data. I worked for a consulting company that used a competitor.

ceanna, moth - Once the moderators asked me if I were willing to let another company use my image showing 15 weekly photos of my post-chemo hair. I declined (that company had nothing to do with my hair growth, but the mods seem to ask permission before using what we post.

I'm still experiencing the same login issues I previously detailed, as well as slow loading times. On many instances, threads won't load at all or a blank page will come up.

    Mods,

I think a large part of our frustration is that we don't see marked improvement (although I am sure a lot of effort is going on behind the scenes). Would it be possible to provide a projected timeline for correction of some of the more frustrating issues such as response time, log in issues and the visual format? I know they could not be set in stone but it would certainly help folks manage expectations. The "we hear you and are working on it" is just too vague and frankly too "flip" for me. However I am a person that likes concrete details. Thank you for considering.

I have no faith that this will post and I can't spend an entire day trying to read other posts about this failed upgrade- I suspect I understand your frustration, though. When I try to log in, I get a blank screen on my first attempt. Every time. This additional time spent trying to log in, and trying to find the right page, added to the time it takes to load every single page, is absolutely maddening.

I admire those of you with patience and fortitude (or perhaps it is anger and stubbornness). I will try again next week.

Alice, your post was at the top of the page; if it had been on another page, I never would have seen it, of course. Hilarious! All that is missing is every one of us shouting in unison, “Representative!" (In response to, “if you want to speak to a representative, please say “representative" into the phone now).

We really do know how frustrated you are! Also, know that we have not sold any data. This was intended to be a "reskin" only. The reason the reskin is causing functional issues is the old code base we are working with, not that we did more than a reskin. The tech team is working on it - we're hoping for some good fixes asap! Our sincerest apologies on behalf of BCO.

My web development skills are rusty, but you cannot explain away all the issues as a simple “reskin”.

A reskin would explain the painful stark white background and tiny font.

A reskin should only include changes to the stylesheets. I would love a dark mode stylesheet.

A proper reskin would not affect the functionality or performance of the site.

I have to chuckle. I don't use and avatar so my now assigned K has gone from tiny and faint to big and bright. Now I would gladly change that "improvement" to making the font we have to read bigger.

Why is font size for the total number of pages and posts so much bigger than the font size for the post text that we actually want to read?

Serenity, I was just getting ready to edit my post with the exact thought about font size usage on our posts. Glad to see BCO's emoji is big, she says dripping in sarcasm. My emoji is the same size as the text.

kathindc - Oh, the size of the BCO emojis! Looks like their size hasn’t changed. It’s the size of the post text that shrunk.

I could increase the font size through the browser, but that increases the size for all text. The headers are already huge.

serenitystat, YEAH! What's up with the giant headers?

Clearly they have font size options

Perhaps you could change tech teams. It is obvious that the ones who designed current pages were not able to read the room. White background and barely readable grey fonts are good for trendy fashion sites, but obivously not for this audience of users.

How many donation dollars went to pay for this new web design?

zogo - Yes, there are numerous font size options. Like Word documents all text objects on a web page can be assigned a text style (header, title, list, bullet, body, etc). The text object can also be assigned other custom classes (post, profile, signature, etc). The stylesheets contain how those objects are formatted. The stylesheets are the skin.

Can people check the bottom of your posts please? Looks like mine are now blank as they should be since I deleted my signature and treatment details. 👍

Well, the good news... the only good news in over a week... is that my private messages are back when I sign in on my iPad. Last night, after signing in, there was no references to PMs that I could find anywhere.

    image

The bad news is that the load times remain excruciatingly slow, and while I don't timeout or get a "site is down" message as frequently as before, I still get them. (Just got another "site down" as I tried to submit this post.)

The first priority has to be to get the site operational. After that, hopefully BCO tackles the design and layout issues. But since I may not post here again, I will mention again and show a couple of screen shots of the issue with the Active Threads on an iPad. I've provided both a landscape and portrait screen view. In both cases, the 4th column that is usually found on the right side, that identifies who started the thread, is missing. That is critical information for any of us who are following certain individuals - I don't remember the name of the threads; I remember the name of the BCO member who I am posting to.

Note as well all the blank space at the top of the screen. What's the purpose of that?

Beesie - Sometimes slow performance can be due to unexpected calls to a data source. If our signature/profile doesn't match what we have entered, then it's coming from somewhere that it shouldn't.

Even though I've got English chosen at the top of the page, the Donate button at the bottom of the page comes up with info in Spanish. But, I will say, that the Donate page comes up at least 20x faster than any other page!

I now go on this site maybe every three days and nothing has improved at all. We are aware that BCO is a non-profit and funds are not plentiful but....someone higher up must have hired a new "design and tech" team which are the ones responsible for this disaster. They deserve money back on whoever they hired to redesign this mess.

When I go on now just to check I do not even bother to look at my posts or favorites anymore. I do not have the time to waste for this sluggish, awful, mess of a site. I go directly to THIS post to see how many feel the same way and see no improvement. And that is sad. Sad that the purpose of this site was to share cancer commentary across a huge audience who now may just give up. A waste of time.

Lastly, as I stated before --- why oh' why when something was working just fine to businesses and/or organizations feel compelled to "change" to something new. Why??? The old site was perfect. Trash this, reclaim lost money spent on this, and go back to the old format. Please.

Here’s what baffles me. The mods have claimed there was testing prior to the “soft” launch. If so, how did no one notice the incredible number of errors and glitches starting with the most basic function, logging in?

For those of you with tech/web design backgrounds, how does this happen?
