The site is cumbersome. Oxford Dictionary Definition: large or heavy and therefore difficult to carry or use; unwieldy, slow or complicated and therefore inefficient, difficult to get through.
Yeah, that’s a good description.
Today I tried to find the page where I could possibly fix my avatar that went rogue all by itself. No luck finding that page.
I still have no idea where I can simply log on.I had one page try to load for a long time before giving me the error code. Still a long lag time to load other pages.
On my iPad Air, the tiny, light colored Arial font of each post stretches the length of the iPad and my head weaves right and left over and over just to follow and read.
I find the whole new format distressing and one of the reasons is it seems that for such a vastly important forum, the cheapest option for for changing its layout was chosen. It feels like we women never get a break. When we should be getting a high quality upgrade, instead we got the bargain basement equivalent. Was this some kind of “lets cut corners where we can to save money” deal?
We’re heading into the weekend and I don’t expect any improvement before then. Who knows what next week will bring. Too bad.
-
I re-downloaded an avator as mine was a bunch of numbers too. I now see a little arrow at the bottom of this page on my laptop, so presumably it will take me back to the top. Still very slow, white, and hard to read the little font. When I submit, I go away & come back as it takes so long.

Dear Moderators/designers
I am interested to know, whether in the light of all this negative feedback, any changes will be made please?
Or was the invitation to point out problems a bit like planning permission….simply going through the motions to enable it to appear that you care.
The update was a retrograde move not a forward one
-
Please scrap this whole abominable mess and switch back.
-
I suspect that if the bozos who did this are so incompetent as to think that this is a "soft launch", they've probably made the changes in such a way that the old site can't be retrieved.
I hope I'm wrong, but even if it can be retrieved, I don't see any rush on behalf of BCO to do that so I doubt it will happen. That would have been the obvious solution early on day one, when they realized (have they realized?) that the site is not working in a way that allows Members to navigate and post easily (putting aside all the appearance issues). Again, I hope I'm wrong.
-
This new website is now basically unusable. But even if it worked perfectly, everything about the appearance, layout, and functionality now sucks. The old website was perfectly fine.
-
I hate to beat a dead horse but the site is fairly unusable to me as well. “Access denied" pops up randomly which is enormously frustrating. Hoping to see this rectified soon because I'm out of patience with this ongoing “improvement “
PS: This is the fourth post I’ve attempted to make today. The previous three? ACCESS DENIED
-
Top urgent issues
- page load/ referral times. I can't just pop into the site for a few minutes and go back to other tasks. This is going to kill traffic and interaction and lose new and old members. I've checked out other breast ca social media way more this week because of the lag
-ability to change and edit existing treatments. Mine are not correct as the board grabbed data from a point about 6 weeks ago and I cannot change them. This is super annoying to me
-ability to change all the settings set to public on profile. I know they're not actually showing to anyone right now but it's still jarring that users can't control their privacy settings
- fix display settings. On desktop (win 11 chrome) in need to scroll left to right as the programmers didnt fix a width of the page.
-avatar shape is distorted and can't be edited. Users dont like this. We pick these for a reason. We want to look good. It's upsetting to the user experience
- user names have changed re capitalization and that is important to users as well
-dark mode option
-easy one click login & logout options
-the one and only change I really wanted: the ability to thread posts and have replies actually be either nested or clearly tagged with a clickable "in reply to @ previous post above " so your conversation is clear and can be tracked back
I'm still hopeful this can be salvaged tho I too would suggest a reversion to previous board if not. Migrating boards and keeping old content is tricky so understand that trying to keep the archive of what's here is hard. I know other groups moved to boards like phpbb but it meant giving up all the archives. I suspect the way this board started and the way the archive exists is presenting problems if you want to keep it so you're essentially limited to reskinning to make it look more modern... which might end up ok but we need at minimum the same level of functionality we had before
-
I would have bailed days ago but would miss you women. It is way worse for people seeking information or continued support with specific treatment issues. It is like your care team took a hiatus with no information about when they would be back.
I am coming by way less often and when I think of clicking in I often change my mind to save frustration.
This is really sad. I too am looking for alternatives including setting up a proboard with various threads.
-
“-the one and only change I really wanted: the ability to thread posts and have replies actually be either nested or clearly tagged with a clickable "in reply to @ previous post above " so your conversation is clear and can be tracked back“
That would be wonderful! Now I am going to click on submit and keep my fingers crossed..

If anything could be changed on the forum, it should be adding a quote feature.

So many issues with the new version of this site. As many others mentioned, performance is ridiculously slow. My email address is now defaulted to public with no ability to make it private. Most of the treatments I had saved to my profile have disappeared. My diagnosis still shows up in my signature line despite the fact that under my profile there is no diagnosis saved. I went through the long (much clunkier process) to to enter it again, saved it, and still when I view my profile there is no saved diagnosis.
I also really dislike the look of the site (massive white space with tiny black font is incredibly hard on the eyes), but the bigger problems are with the damaged functionality.
May I suggest that there are enough critical bugs to revert to the old version until the new version can be optimized? Perhaps with a REAL soft launch (to a limited audience) instead of this full forced launch?
It is hard enough to navigate this new version that I'm just going to go away, and won't waste time here until more of these bugs are fixed.
-
My first complaint on this thread about the redesign was over 72 hours ago. Nothing has changed. This announcement doesn’t address anything.
The easiest thing to change is setting everyone’s email address to Private. If your developers can’t handle something as simple as that, then you need to look elsewhere.“Fast, good, cheap. Pick 2.” - We know which you picked.
-
Hi All, We continue to report each and every comment and glitch.

Thanks Mods. I know this is enormously frustrating for everyone and I’m sure there is a lot of work behind the scenes to try to fix issues. Unfortunately, the problem is, there hasn’t been a single issue resolved. In fact, my experience is that things are getting decidedly worse. While I thought there was marginal improvement in speed yesterday I suspect it was just wishful thinking as today I couldn’t access the site at all in my iPad. Access denied, access denied… sigh. Finally made it in. Now let’s see if this posts. Any bets?
-
Although I use white screen at work, I am also getting eye aches and headaches reading posts, all white screen and light black text is not working. Need darker text less white
Ruth 58000 pretty impressive 😀
-
I just saw a thread where my "unread posts" is -973. Does that mean I read them twice?
-
Mods, seriously? No explanation of what's going on. No detail on the plan to fix this and in what order things might get fixed. No apologies for this disaster.
I haven't been on the site much this week because it is so painfully difficult to navigate, but I've noticed only two changes in the 72+ hours since the update.
First is that in the announcement box on the home page, you did remove the statement about hoping that we are enjoying the new look. Thank you.
Second is that the opening statement in the announcement box has changed from "just 24 hours" to "just 48 hours" to "just 72 hours". May I suggest that it's time to remove the word "just"? And perhaps a rewording of the statement is in order. Here's my suggestion, which I know wouldn't be what you'd write, but which fairly reflects what I've seen over the past 72 hours and my experience trying to use the site.
"We're 72 hours out from our disastrous hard launch. We are working closely as a team and with our web developers to address issues and bugs but we've discovered that they don't know what they are doing nor do they have any idea how to fix things. We have no idea when to expect load times to start to improve, or when other fixes will be implemented to return the site to a usable state. We apologize profusely."
(And yes, I'm still getting delays and access denied messages as I try to post this.) -
Someone must be working in the My Account area because it isn’t accessible right now. This is where our privacy settings should be editable. Hope this means we can
1) reset our usernames without forcing all lowercase letters (why was this code touched?)
2) correct our medical information
3) of course, edit privacy settings
BUT it also made the one place to log out inaccessible! Why were the other logout buttons removed???
-
Oh, WTF. I had written a post of several sentences and suddenly noticed it was in the "add video" box! So I exed out to get back to where I thought I was writing, and the whole post had disappeared.
ANYWAY, ditto to what everyone has said. Mods, is there a way to track visitors to the site who leave without registering? I really wonder how many new people came here to sign up and left in frustration, just when they need the site the most. Shame, shame, shame! I'll bet some occasional users have given up, and the site is about to lose some regulars, too. I'm staying (for now) because I like so many people here, not because of the site itself. In a pinch, there are other informational sites, and some with active forums.
Edited to add, it took longer to submit this post than to write it.
🤮😡💩
-
My frustration level has just pegged at 11. I'm not, at this point, recommending this site as a resource to people I meet who are dealing with breast cancer. I'm hoping I can eventually feel comfortable enough to start again.
-
trishyla, that's the thing for me too. I JUST literally met someone recently dx'd Stage 4 who needs lots of info & would be up for reading & learning but I cannot recommend the site to her as it is. It's so frustrating.
-
I feel stupid for returning. I'm done.

Moderators:
How’s the overall response been to this new soft launch? Are there lots of members praising the new format? Are you, as moderators, happy with how the new configuration is functioning? Are you pleased with the appearance? Do you find any of our comments valid? Do you expect any changes to be made based on the comments here and in any private messages you received from members? Or would you say we are stuck with the current situation?
Can you please tell me where I go to try to fix my avatar? I cannot locate the page. Where do I go to log in to the forum? Currently I have to gain access (after getting an error code numerous times) to a thread and it will say “log on to post a reply”. Thats the only way I can log on. Is there a box to check if I want to stay logged into the forum, or do I have to attempt to log in every time I visit the site?
-
lw422,
I have always seen threads with a - sign next to unread posts on variety of threads. I asked the mods about this a few years ago but it was never fixed. I view bco primarily on an iPad.
-
Well I finally got a message saying the site was down. I think BCO would retain more members if they shut down and gave a timeline for when to check back.
-
Divine - The section to change your avatar is inaccessible right now. There should be links in the My Account area. The link you need is Settings.
-
Does anybody have any suggestions/recommendations for other breast cancer discussion boards that a person could migrate to if they want to leave this one?
-
I have heard that breastcancernow.org has many users.
I would have been fine with a shut down here for a couple of days but this week has proven that BCO doesn't respect their many members. It is stunning.
-
mods,
I am curious. Was there beta testing or any type of testing done before the launch? If so, how did these major issues go unnoticed? If not, why, why, why? Again, I’m no tech genius but the consistent “access denied” message and our inability to edit personal info seems like it should have shown up before the launch. Oh, let’s not forget the clunky way we have to log in and the stark white background with tiny thin font print.
