    Just heard that Alan Rickman has died from cancer. He was 69. Damn! Brilliant actor who will be missed.

    Zills.... I just cook about a cup of rice, (Jasmine or long-grain) with about 5 C Water....(Can always add more...) simmer it for about 4 hours, with diced up fresh Ginger, scallions, & crumbled up dried mushrooms.... Salt & Pepper...

    It looks like a rice porridge.... real creamy... You can use chicken, or any kind of meat, but I just like mine plain.... When you are in Thailand, and go on one of their little river boats, the locals have a hot pot of Congee, and serve the other people on the river....

    My friend told me about it.... I also whip up a couple eggs, drizzle that slowly over the simmering Congee, and then STIR when the egg has set....

    Supposed to be a "comfort food"...

    We try to treasure the time we have with our love ones because tomorrow is not guarantee to anyone of us, right? Before cancer, I hardly thought about my mortality.

    Morning gals... Spookie, you okay? Are you getting a lot of rain? So someone in Melbourne Beach had one of the tickets? That's so cool for them! That area is just beautiful... We all watched the Turtles lay their eggs one midnight on the beach......it was magical...!

    Loverly, he got his one eye done... but is being a real PITA about it all... I think it was the "relaxer" they gave him? He hates the "shield" they put over his eye to protect it, and takes it off whenever he wants... supposed to take it off this morning, but It's probably off by now anyway... Should wear it every night for a week... I will be amazed it THAT happens.

    And I'm giving him those drops... 3 bottles... 3 times a day... but I have to remember 12 year old's don't like necessary things.... so we'll see if he co-operates any better today... Drops are to be used for ONE WEEK!!!! I'm about a heart-beat away from "Okay, do it yourself".... but I know he wouldn't do it himself. Complains because it "burns".... or he can't see any better yet.... or everything is blurry...... Oh well.... I feel like a school marm. I don't mind being a nurse, but isn't the patient supposed to co-operate just a little?

    Supposed to go this morning for post-op.... Think I'll ask them to keep him for awhile...

    Okay.... other than THAT, everything is good! Got up too early, but I couldn't sleep anymore... now I'm getting sleepy again... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Deb- sending you prayers for a good procedure and outcomes. I blessed your medical team too (I always do that for myself before any procedure too). Wishing you that good cup of coffee on the other side this when you are feeling better. In your pocket today.

    Cubbie- I think the UK must be reeling this week with the loss of those two this week. Both 69 and both died of cancer. British actors have always been my favs.

    Loveroflife- I had a reality check in my 30s around mortality when I lost a brother at age 40 from a rare genetic disease. Changed my view of the world forever and made me realize not everyone gets a full life. I have lost several good friends through the years from various diseases who were gone to soon. Not everyone gets a full ride.

    I think this society is easier at celebrating the people that pass in their 80s and 90s, declaring that they had a "good full life". It seems sad for anything else that happens, but with time we find our way to that place of peace and gratitude for all they shared. That is my experience at least.

    BC has changed my perspective a step further. To value every day, not get caught up in the drama or to sweat the small stuff, I also try to spend my time on the people who truly care about me; cancer taught me who those people are and who they are not. Live each day to your best. Treat your loved ones with kindness. These are the things we do have control over.

    Has rained here already. Radar looks bad. Must go to the other side of town and return TV. Less than 2 months old and the DVD player stopped working. Today is the last day that I can just trade it in, w/o going thru the repair process. So must take it today before work.

    Thinking of you, Deb,,, hoping all goes well for you.

    69 isn't "old" anymore,, especially as we all creep closer to it. We are aging along with our favorite rock stars (Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney) and it's upsetting to see them die, as I think it reminds us of our own mortality. I think David Bowie and Alan Rickman were really a kick in the gut, cuz we didn't know they had cancer. So it was a shock. Now Jimmy Carter was out there with his,, so if he passes from it, it won't be a shock, you know?

    Jazzy says it well,,, when someone passes in their 80's and 90's, we feel they had a long good life. My Grandma was 88,,, I mourned her, and I still miss her,,but she had a long life. My college boyfriend lost his little son when he was only 3. Where is the fairness in that? He didn't have a chance for a life at all. He would be 38 now,,, and I still think of him all the time, even tho his dad and I broke up years ago.

    Chevy: good luck with the eyedrops. Cool that you saw the turtles lay the eggs. I miss living on the coast for many reasons,, that's one of them.

    Awwwww, thank you, Ms. Spookie. So true! Positive perspective makes a big difference. Made me cry and smile at the same time. Mitzy came up to me as I was crying, licking my hands lovingly. She usually does this when I am upset at her or when she needs something. Maybe this is her way of connecting. We have thought about finding a new home for her as her anxiety has not shown improvement. Trying Prozac now and hoping that this will help her. Hate to take medicine myself so I don't like to medicate her knowing the nasty side effects of drugs. She is such a sweet dog...just like an innocent child. Besides the anxiety and the shedding, she is a perfect dog...very smart, protective, yet affectionate. Seeing her stress makes my whole family stress.

    Ms. Chevy, I feel your frustration. It's ok. Just "baby" him. What choice do you have? You can't kick him to the curb because you will join him shortly after. Stubborn is stubborn. It would drive anyone crazy when the person doesn't do as told but complains when problems surface. My Mama is the same way.

    Back from post-op check-up.... Everything went very good... ! I'm happy.... and we had a "little talk"..... about how I just want to take care of him, and that he could co-operate just a little! He is much nicer... and the Doctor explained how important the drops are.... and it was okay to not wear the shield at night, and that his eye is surprisingly MUCH better already.... in other words he can "see".....!

    Next appt is in 3 weeks.... drops up until then! I think the "anesthetic" has something to do with your brain.... even if only "local".... So no more problems. Otherwise, I am going to quit my nurses job....

    Chevy - glad DH's cataract surgery went so well. Aren't they just the biggest babies? They do have dropless surgery but I think it involves injections in the eye.

    Deb - hoping you will be able to check in tomorrow or Sunday but understand if you don't feel like it. I tried to keep the general noise level down to a roar.

    JWoo - what a year you had. Here's to hoping 2016 has all the fun stuff and minimal of that bad stuff.

    Stomach bug is no fun. I hate to throw up. Will do anything not to. Haven't come close recently but almost did when I had the colonoscopy in the spring. That told me I'd had enough laxative. I shake hands at church but try to make it a point not to touch my nose and certainly not my mouth. Always grab a buggy wipe thingy if they have them.

    Chevy Dearest - that Princess Sassy Pants is hilarious. Went to the Facebook Page.

    umm Loverly I remember salted plums I think. I cannot spell it but we used to eat "seamoi seeds". Is that the same thing? Puckery salty.
