I don't go on this thread that much but I'm glad that I did today.
Caryn, What an awesome picture! I hope that you enjoyed your trip. I wonder if standing on a glacier is similar to being on the moon, you realize how small we are?
-
What a great photo! Thanks, Caryn, for putting a smile on my face!
-
exbrnxgrl, here's a word I don't use too often: "Stupendous!" That how I describe your photo. Had to be an amazing feeling being up there so high. Uh, helicopter tours always seem fabulous, but I'm not a big flying fan, (in other words, scaredy cat) . I find mountains to be very spiritual. You look very blessed
-
WOW, Caryn. Fantastic!

Yes, it was a fantastic trip. When we arrived at the pier to check in, we found that we'd been upgraded to a balcony. We usually book obstructed ocean view (I am, after all, a public school teacher) and have no problem with that, but thoroughly enjoyed the balcony. First pic is dd enjoying breakfast on that balcony on our first morning at sea. Second pic is me getting ready to canoe out to the Davidson Glacier, visible in the background.
-
Beautiful photos, Caryn. And that balcony cabin alone would make the trip for me:) So glad you had a nice time
-
Caryn, Beautiful pictures! Awesome upgrade.
( It appears that your daughter has some Bronx in her also, go Yankees!!! )
-
She was born and raised in CA, but raised right. She's actually a more rabid Yankees fan than I am. I took her to (the old) Yankee Stadium when she was younger. She thought she had arrived at Mecca!
-
I think maybe your next trip should include NY and a Yankee game at the new stadium! Probably not as exciting as where you are now but the new stadium is pretty sharp.
-
exbrnxgrl, my son's one request prior to our Bahama cruise last year was to have breakfast on the balcony. Must be something appealing about that to the younger generation. We ended up having breakfast out there three or four times; it was marvelous and memorable.
The beauty and majesty of the USA always grabs my heart; to see the nation's natural splendor is my favorite kind of vacation. The glacier photo with you is beautiful.
-
Yes, a balcony is lovely and I had my morning coffee out there everyday. But the price for an obstructed ocean view is much less and there is a website with photos of these cabins on all Princess ships, so I can choose a cabin with very minimal obstruction. But, I will never turn down a free upgrade!
Yes, would love to catch a game at the new stadium. Last year, while visiting a friend in the Bronx, we drove by, but that's as close as I've gotten -
Caryn - Loving the pictures!
-
Great pic Caryn. Congrats on the upgrade! You are very brave for getting on that helicopter, I don't think I could do it! Glad to see you are having a nice time.
-
Fantastic photos . Your daughter is adorable EXT.
-
Thank you all!
As for the helicopter, it was a long held wish I had. I have flown on airplanes a lot, as a former flight attendant, but never a helicopter. They weigh all of the passenger and then seat you so as to balance the weight . Besides the pilot, there were six of us on the copter. My dd, who is a nervous flyer, looked tense as we took off, but was soon distracted by the magnificent scenery. Actually, both of my dd's are not happy flyers. Given that they're daughters of an ex- flight attendant, I am baffled by this. Will post a few more pics.

This is ONE king crab leg!
Glacier Bay National Park,The sound and sight of glaciers calving was incredible.
Captain's Circle cocktail party. Do I worry about the occasional drink or two? Nope, not for a minute. If bc takes me tomorrow, I will have lived the past 4 years to the hilt and spent as little time as possible fretting over this stupid disease. That's how I fight bc
-
great pics. If you go to the stadium you might want to use public transportation or take the ferry from Wehawken rather than drive. Getting out of the lot can be really a pai
-
Caryn - thanks so much for posting the great pictures! What a wonderful trip! You look happy and fantastic.
-
Wow, Glacier Bay is gorgeous. Hahahaha, that crab leg big AND long as your dd's arm! TOO funny! I don't worry about the occasional drink either and you look fabulous.
-
Thanks, ladies. I should add that King crab is the sweetest crab I've ever eaten. We get lots of local Dungeness crab at home (family members have even gone crabbing and we ate the fresh catch that night) , but King crab is amazing.
Here's another pic, taken in Ketchikan. This is the famous Creek Street. Theriver below has salmon swimming upstream, but we were there too early in the season to see them. Ketchikan is known as the salmon capitol of the world. Had lots of yummy salmon samples and brought back some salmon jerky as gifts. Very tasty stuff, but gives you awful breath 😋
-
Beautiful! And yum!
-
Just catching up with the thread and really enjoyed the pics Caryn. I've been saying an Alaska cruise is on for next year!!! Thanks for the pics and narrative. I enjoyed a perfectly made Old Fashioned last night. While I love them occasionally they seem to disrupt my sleep and I only have one and even if enjoyed early in the evening. May have to stick with wine.
Very happy to be (mostly) on break from school. I have some days interviewing for new teachers and assistant principal next week but really enjoying the first few days of relaxation.
It's overcast here by the L.A. coast but we'll be walking down to the corner in a bit to see the Marina fireworks if visibility allows. Earlier today the fun was watching Despicable Me. Hadn't seen it and just loved it.
Be well everyone and happy 4th!
and thanks for the good wishes earlier on the SCOTUS decision :-)
-
Caryn, your pictures are beautiful. I am so glad that you and your daughter had a wonderful trip. Love that you had a balcony upgrade. Your pictures make me want to hop on a plane and go to Alaska. My dad went on a cruise there all b y himself right after my mom died. I would have gone but it was to close to school starting. He said it was simply amazing. I just retired 2 weeks ago from teaching, 28 years, I am hoping to take more trips in the future. You have always amazed me with your ability to work and fit big trips in on school breaks.
-
