Had to give up the ice cream, dairy doesn't agree with me. So, instead, I'm ready a trashy novel. Feeling very entertained. Hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend!

I'm so enjoying all the travel pics. My little one & I had long discussions about volcanoes this weekend, which got me on to Pompeii & now she's nagging for a holiday in Italy. Can't say I disagree with that idea so adding it to the to do list!

We spent the weekend in a nature reserve in the Magaliesberg (about 90 mins from us) with friends. No tv, no radio, just long walks with beautiful scenery, lots of tea & lots of talking & a fire & a sky full of stars at night. Was wonderful.

    wishing everyone a great week!

I love this thread.Heart I have not been on the boards lately because I have tried to not think about cancer. I have been NED for over a year and I'm on Herceptin and was on Tamoxifen until a couple of months ago. I stopped it because I just couldn't tolerate the side effects. Since getting off the Tamoxifen I have been feeing great and I have had a lot of fun :) In March, I went to Houston Texas to visit my oldest dd and I saw my very first Live Rodeo, saw 4 different country concerts (Florida Georgia Line, Band Perry, Brad Paisley and Blake Shelton) it was awesome. I also got a tour of NASA (my dd works there). In April, I celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary on a cruise with my DH. I will have my next scan in a couple of weeks but I'm optimistic and have booked a trip to Sweden with my youngest dd to go visit my family. In August I'm going to NJ for a family reunion with my husband's family. Life is good and I do my best to enjoy whatever time I have left because only God knows how long that is!!!

Greetings, ladies. Last week, dh, ds and I flew in to Rapid City, SD to see the touristy sites. We spent one day on a tour bus visiting Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse and area. Someone on this thread mentioned seeing Mt. Rushmore framed by the tunnels on Needles Highway, and it was spectacular. Another day, we drove to the Badlands National Park, another incredible sight and the windiest place we've ever been!

Seeing Mt. Rushmore has been on my "live it" list for quite some time now. It was so satisfying to experience it in 'real life' with dh and ds. My favorite souvenirs are photos, we got many on the whole trip, and this is my favorite:

    image

And here'sa photo I got off the internet of one of the tunnels on Needles Highway/Iron Mountain Road, (my own photos didn't take very well for these), it's just the coolest thing, the tunnels are miles away and very narrow, only one vehicle can pass thru at a time

Kiwi, oh, that is so cool. We enjoyed visiting that part of the US. The wide openness of it, the prairie that goes on for miles, the rock formations along Needles Highway. It is another type of geography than in the Ohio Valley where I live, and I always find it interesting to see the differences. On our last day, we had a few hours before our flight and went to Reptile World which was actually so amazing, then had lunch in downtown Rapid City and checked out some of the presidential statues; the downtown is a lovely area

Every spring I make two water gardens in large containers. They have no pumps or fountains, just water that I treat with environmentally-friendly chemicals that repel mosquitoes. Our spring routine--which we followed yesterday-- is to travel 45 minutes into the Maryland countryside to an amazing place called Lilypons Water Gardens that sells water plants nationwide via mail order. They have many acres of ponds and pools full of water lilies and such, all manner of bog plants and fish. It's a fun place just to explore and there are many intriguing plants available for point-of-purchase sale. Yesterday we bought a water canna, parrot feather ferns, a dwarf papyrus and several water hyacinth.

I wish I could make a pond in our back yard, but it's a big deal to construct one and keep it healthy. What's more, I could never stock it with fish because we are on the fringe of parkland that is home to many racoons, foxes and predatory birds. Having one small water garden at the top of our driveway and one on the patio is the next best thing--and so easy to do and maintain. I recommend it!

Tina, your water gardens sound lovely. We have a 5 x 7 foot pond with a small waterfall out back; dh is the one who maintains it. We keep goldfish in it, and I have flowers/shrubs planted around it. We live in town so we don't have wildlife to contend with.Tho it doesn't take up much space, it adds a nice touch to the yard. One thing we may look for is one of those water garden nurseries that you go to, and yours sounds fabulous.....I'm almost ready to take the trip there myself from Ohio! There aren't any close where I live, but I'm sure there's something in the Pittsburgh area an hour away. We've not had the time to search for one, but I would love to have a selection of water plants to chose from, and to see other ponds; I am always inspired and enlightened by them.

Love the idea of a water garden but my weed bed might get jealous since she has been neglected. For fun I went to a big flea market this past Sat upstate with DD and SIL managed to walk the while thing and didn't buy anything that was totally a useless impulse buy. and neither did the kids (long walk back to the car). Sat is my best day of the week cause the steroid from the Fri infusion is still effective. Still felt good on Sun so took the bus into the city and a nice wander around town, only saw one sailor (Fleet Week with a few ships in town)

Wandering around NY is FUN FUN!

I recently upped my fun quotient by finding a dog walker. I have a subscription for Sunday afternoon series at Disney Concert Hall. The performances generally end around 4:00 and we always went right home to deal with the little prince. BUT... last Sunday we booked the dog walker, and after the concert walked south down Grand Ave to the Water Grill, enjoyed a very leisurely cocktail hour before dinner and walked back up the street to the parking lot. The dog walker made what can be routine into a special day.

Okay, forgive me for saying that any concert is routine :-)

My husband and I are going to Napa this weekend for a music and wine festival. I had surgery three weeks ago and started Ibrance one week ago, so double whammy. Still....good wine and good music (and a little much needed romance)can make you forget anything.

My daughter's senior prom tonight! One of the last rights of passage of her high school days. She graduates June 10 and then it's two months of preparation to send her off to college. So very happy and grateful I am well enough to enjoy this milestone. I didn't know how I would be doing 9 months ago and was filled with fear, so I am blessed.

Leah, I still play my old LP of Art Garfunkel's "Angel Claire" album every so often. I especially love the song I think is titled "All I Know."  Gorgeous.

    Enjoy the concert!

Leah - Art Garfunkel sounds like a fun concert. I have Angel Clare too, Tina, and listen to if once in a while.

JJSki - how fun - senior prom! Congrats on her upcoming graduation too.

Intothewoods - I've lived in Rapid City, SD; Detroit; Oklahoma City (least favourite); near Albuquerque, NM; Houston; and Las Vegas (most of my adult life). I managed a project in Novato, which is the northernmost town in Marin County, north of San Fran, so I lived near Napa for two years while I did that. And moved to NZ in 2008. :)

I'm going to go collect for National De-Sexy Day, which is a program that subsidises spay/neuter for cats. It's only for an hour, but should be fun. It's cold, so I have a furry hat with cat ears.

Love reading about what everyone is doing!

    Hugs to all,

    Terre

I love hearing what everyone is doing too!

Leah, I have to admit I haven't thought of Art Garfunkel in a long long time but what sweet memories the mention brings. It will be a wonderful concert I'm sure.

jjski so happy to hear that you can enjoy this important time with your daughter

Kiwi, my father is from northern California and there are family members in Novato and Petaluma.

Divine no impulse junk buying. Except for that one piece.... :-)

Will be enjoying time with the little prince this weekend I think I'll change my avatar to a picture of us.

    Best to everyone

I recently pulled out my paints and am enjoying painting again. I also know I am realy bad at it lol so I ordered a few paint by number kits to refresh my skills. I free paint on a blank canvas and look at it and go "oh dear". I then pull out a paint by number kit ..chuckles.
