playing catch-up. Every one is having so much fun. Caryn I was a tour guide in Ketchikan in '96. Two years ago I took my hubby. We went in February and stayed at the creekside in. We had a blast. My mom and my aunt are flight attendants for Alaska. I love to fly.

    I have a new breed of fun. She's a little 14hh Arab.image

This is my DD on her.

    Fujimama,
Great photo of your dd. I bet she was having a blast and am glad that you are enjoying your new breed of fun. Alaska was truly beautiful and I am so glad I went. I wasn't crazy about the towns, which featured too mint souvenir shops and jewelry stores, but once we got away from the ports, it was spectacular. I am a former Pan Am flight attendant. Enjoy the horse!

Caryn - Did I mention that you are the FOURTH person I know who has gone to Alaska this summer? After the awful winters we've been having I was surprised that anyone would be dreaming of an Alaskan vacation, but after seeing all the pictures I guess I can see why!

    Shutterbug,

Yes, due to Alaska's limited tourist season, summer time is when most people go. There was no snow or even rain in the ports (Juneau was 82 degrees!). It was only colder when we were out by glaciers or sailing through Glacier Bay National Park. The scenery and wildlife were stunning. Originally, I had no great interest in going to Alaska, but I got a great cruise deal and couldn't say no. I am glad I didn't!

A bit of nostalgic summer fun:

With longer, warmer days I often stay for dinner at my dd's on the days that I watch my granddaughter. It's become s pleasant habit that's not possible for me during the school year. As we ate dinner, we heard a child's voice calling Fwankie , Fwankie (Frankie)!

It was one their neighbors, a little boy who is also three. He wanted her to come out and play so my dd said we would come out after dinner. Before we knew it, a few other 2-3 year old neighbors and their parents appear. Riding toys, mini-basketballs and hoop, toy trucks and the sound of carefree toddlers fill the warm evening air. It really brought me back to that carefree, anything is possible feeling I used to have on summer evenings when you could go out and play after dinner. Everything was wonderful until the parents started telling the kids it was time to go in, bathe and get ready for bed. Then, the terrible twos and threes went into overdrive. Suddenly, my nostalgia faded and I was very grateful to be the grandmother, because I could get into my car and go home! I kissed my dd and granddaughter good-night and drove home. It was a lovely evening 😍. Here is a picture of Frankie (Frances Leigh).

Lovely post Caryn and beautiful pic of little Fwankie. My sister is visiting form Florida, she took a couple of weeks off She has use if an apt in the city for July so we planned for a sleep over. We also planned on exploring the city so last night we went to a museum. So we went to the Morgan Library last night and out for dinner with some old friends from the Bronx that we haven't seen in years had a good time and then we went to the apt she's using. Got ourselves out of the house and got a us to Chelsea there was a street fair on6th ave so we wandered thru it. She mentioned that she had never been to a Trader Joe's so of course I took her to one. I wanted to go to Chinatown so we took the subway Lots of work done on the subway on the weekends the 6th ave line was being worked on so we went over to the BMT and took the bdwy line down to Canal St, very crowded lots of street vendors and people trying to sell knock offs it's funny when they whisper to you bags, watches like it's illegal which it is. We weren't looking to shop just look and take photos. The only thing I'm sorry I didn't buy in Chinatown were the fresh Lichee nuts or Rambutan didn't feel like carrying anything. Stopped in a park and saw Chinese musicians and people playing unfamiliar games not a single mah jong game. Trying to tslk her into taking a ride to the old neighborhood in the Bronx think I will just have to get her into the car and just go. i am so glad that she could get all the time off for us to go play and she will help out a little with the baby shower next Sunday.

I enjoyed a wonderful meal last night with my husband at our local Mexican restaurant and we shared a delicious frozen raspberry marguerita.

Rain! Yes! Haha! We had it yesterday in Southern California. Hard rain, thunder, lightening and about 84 degrees. It was wonderful fun. The rain started again tonight but no thunder and lightening.

    intothewoods,
Yes, you have had rain. I just heard a teaser for the 11:00 news that said part of I-10 is washed out. Now I'll have to watch the news for details. But guess what? It never rained here, at least not near me. My older dd, who lives barely 10 minutes away from me, told me it was raining quite hard at her house. Talk about microclimates!

Wow, southern CA sure bore the brunt of that rainstorm. Apparently, it only rained up here near my dd's house😜. We have had some very sticky humidity, about 40%. I know this is not much compared to many areas of the country, but is oppressive in our usually dry climate. Hope all in SoCal are doing well.
Learning new things is always fun for me. Some of you may remember my forays into Norwegian and nålbinding last year (still have fun with those). Now I have got it in my head to try making fresh mozzarella cheese. Seems easy enough... I am ordering a few supplies for it today. They say it only takes an hour and all I can think of is yummy caprese salads and melted mozzarella and pesto sandwiches (I have basil, but no tomatoes this year, due to our drought). Yes, I know some think dairy is to be avoided but I won't be eating a pound a day and I will use organic milk. Who knows what cheeses I'll move on to after that. Feta??

My partner and I are on our way to meet Sueopp and her beloved for dinner in Ball'mer. (That's Baltimore for the uninitiated.) Sue and I met on this forum a few years ago and have become good friends. We always have a fine time together and on our double dates!

So much fun happening! My better half is making an instructional Tai Chi video. It's still humid here is L.A. So my biggest job is powdering her nose. We're having a great time.

Very cool that she made a video! Tai chi looks do beautiful to me. I love the slow, deliberate movements. And who knows, you may have a second career as a make up artist!
Tried my hand at cheese making today. I was going for fresh mozzarella, but ended up with something more like mozzacotta ( ricotta-ish mozzarella). It is very tasty, but I couldn't get the curds to become smooth and elastic. Oh well, I still have a beautiful, sliceable fresh cheese. I think I need more to use more rennet. Will try again in a few days.
Our humidity has abated and the temps are cooler, but it's supposed to heat up again.
