luvmygoats, within six weeks of moving to Arizona (from California) I was stung by a scorpion and of course, it was on my LEFT arm - the cancer side - where lymph nodes had been removed and I was still on Herceptin.  The oncologist's office said I should go on in to the ER so that's what I did - but not until I had screamed at the top of my lungs - "I've been stung by a scorpion!" - within 60 seconds of it happening.  :-)

It was hanging on the arm of the winter coat I had just hung up in the coat closet.  We were renting a house while our house was being built.  There were several scorpions in that house (I've read they're very territorial and sometimes they just pick a place to live and won't move on).  We bought a black light flashlight and yellow goggles so we could stalk them after dark.  Yes, we are a bit off...

Lee, did it feel like a wasp sting ?

Spookie, yes I did retire. I took medical leave for the entire school year, on the advice of 3 Drs.  I worked at a Intermediate School.

I was only planning on working for 1-2 more years. I figured it was time to go somewhere warm for a month in the winter. My DH owns a ice buisness, they produce, package & deliver ice. I can putter at the plant. I am basically in the way, but can run errands, do the banking, clean office. Of course with the fear of the beast returning, I want to be available to go & travel. My paycheck was not so great. I was working for medical benefits & retirement.

We bought sticky traps but never caught one.  We're going to have the foundation sprayed on this house now that the landscaping is all finished.

Holeinone, I've never been stung by a wasp but it was very intense.  So intense that a Percocet (prescribed at the ER) didn't even begin to cut the pain/throbbing.  I've since read that these things (scorpions) can survive nuclear fallouts.  Nasty, nasty.  I've also read that people out here put water glasses under baby cribs so they can't crawl up and get in the baby's bed.

Susan, we had black widows in California.  They loved to take up residence under our patio furniture.  Re: your uncle - maybe there are areas where there aren't scorpions.  We're in an outlying area of Phoenix near a big mountain range.  All kinds of critters - including rattlesnakes.

Sounds awful...how scary that would be to have a baby & worry about those creepy crawlers.

My worst bite/sting was a deer fly. Throbbed for hours. Oh, also a jelly fish sting was rashy & painful.

How scorp. got into toilet is a mystery. I had killed a rather large one and left it in there for DH to see. Found it had multiplied to 2, one dead, one alive. There is a bathroom vent just above it, creepy you don't think it could have fallen in it from there. This happened last year too. I wouldn't think they could climb porcelain. DH did spray foundation generously. Wasps/hornets/yellow jackets buzzing everyday. No way to get rid of them. They do make wasp traps but they are nasty things if you accidentally bump into them - the liquid contents is vile. I did the sticky traps on patio once, caught a hummingbird. Never did them there again. Do put them up in goat barn but no self respecting hummingbird would go in there. My rat terrier killed scorp. last year. Don't know how it didn't sting her. I don't go barefoot ever.

Well insomnia certainly applies to me tonight. :)

Hope it doesn't last long, got a long day ahead.

Back hurting, arm hurting and left leg keeps trying to go to sleep without the rest of me.

I've heard of a few people who got stung when they put their shoes on.  I saw one near the shower drain one time.  I think they seek water.  My husband trapped the one that stung me.  We wanted to make sure we had it in case it need to be identified (we weren't sure if there were different varieties).  I think they do drop from ceilings.  I've read about that being a concern for cribs as well (and sleeping people of any age).  I had a Pavlov's dog type of response every time I opened up that coat closet - dread/fear.

Nettie, have you ever tried sleeping with a bar of soap under the mattress pad for pain issues?  I just changed to a fresh bar last night.

Unfortunately, it doesn't help with insomnia but there sure are a lot of google hits for it helping with pain so I keep one tucked at the bottom of the bed.

Okay, I've been duly warned about the eating thing and I think I'll just deal. with my luck, something would go screwy if I ate early. I was thinking I could eat before 8am and be okay, the nurse said 8hrs prior to surgery. Anyway, talk about scorpions makes my skin crawl. ewww!

Think of me tomorrow if you can...4pm CST.

My last surgery was at 2:30 and I wasn't allowed to eat after midnight.  I was really hungry by the time I got out of recovery and back to my room.

Good luck tomorrow.  You'll be in my thoughts and prayers!

Scorpions and black widows and snakes, oh my....

Here is a much more peaceful thought to take to bed... my front porch (gazebo) last summer. Now everything has grown up and is much bigger and kind of wild/cottage looking. I didn't notice that the flag was all wrapped around itself looking like a spear. Must have been windy that day.

Chevy - from the looks of your pole pic your hip healed rather nicely.

I have went back and read lots of pages but can't figure out where SAS is ???  She has been so kind to send several pm's that had tons of much needed info. She is like some kinda walking encyclopedia (do they still have those now?) always enjoy reading her informative posts

Ah geez, I'm so worried about Cammi!  She last posted here on the 6th!  Something about seeing the Doctor tomorrow?  I'll send her an email, or I could even call her....  I'll let you guys know..........

Sass must still be taking a "break?"  I sent her a couple emails but she didn't answer...  I have to pester SOMEone, right?

Nettie.... hope you find some answers!

Littlegoats!  Cute video!  They act just like dogs, it looks like!

SweetSusan...  LOVE you little sanctuary, as "someone" called it!  Looks like you have a crop circle of some sort....  Have you checked for Alien's?

I LOVE moss-rose, aka Portulaca, aka ice-plant!   That is the most beautiful plant, and they don't take much care!  We had one come up in the black-top out back, and it never got watered, so evidently they love HEAT and DRY!

And Tungsten...(you didn't even capitalize his NAME!) has a new home?  Well, okay.... as long as she takes care of him...   So how is it you know he is a he?  Probably a stupid question, but REALLY!

    I'll miss MR. T.!

Good luck Tang!  We are all with you!   Don't you just hate to wait all day for a stupid surgery?  They did that with my hip, and I was not a happy person!  I mean I broke it the day beFORE, so it was like 2 damn days with that thing, and no food!   I almost wilted away!

Gardens!  Yes, your yard will look most beautacious!

Nettie!!!!!!!!  WTH????  You were "bush-hogged??"  Now, me being as intelligent as I AM, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING!!!

Morning Spookie!   Glad you had your portia yanked!  That reminds me of when they yanked my MammoSite Device out!  She said it would "sting"....   Now a little "sting" is NOTHING compared to what actually happened!  It was like removing your SHOES up through your sore breast with a chain, and yanking it through that little hole!

I couldn't even YELL it hurt so bad!  I saw stars!  Well, more than usual anyway.....

Okay, SURE, it was only a second or 45, but child-birth is a good comparison!

GGHole!  You also might need foot surgery?  What kind?  Is it something we can fix here?

Littlegoats!  A 5# Scorpion?  WTF!!!!!  I would move.  I would move to Alaska.... that's it!  I don't think they are condusive  to a happy house-hold.   I was going to post a picture, but it made the hair on my arms stand straight up!

Yes, keep a supply of Benadryl on hand for EVERYthing!

Morning Lee!  So you know the mating and living habits of resident Scorpions?  Ah man, I would be mortified!     "They take up residence?"  All you have to do is find them a more desirable home.... Ha!

I mean a SPIDER  is enough for me!....And I usually try and coax them into a cup, and throw them outdoors, or pick them up with a kleenex!

Good video Lee!    You know, I read somewhere to put a bar of soap in between the sheets, at the bottom... and it was supposed to stop leg-cramps, from Tamoxifen...  Well it didn't work for me....  I even tried putting 3 bars in a mesh bag down there...  Didn't do a thing!

Maybe it works for other things...  but not my leg cramps!  The only thing that worked are standing up and screaming bloody murder!

Blessings....  The front of your home is gorgeous...!  Now I'm jealous. We didn't even notice the flag!  But you can bet we did NOW, Ha!

SOME people can't even appropriately display the American Flag.... tis a shame.....

PP.... PeppermintP!  You found us again!  Yes...  hip healed nicely...

(I gotta tell you.... that is really not me on the pole.  See, I feel I should explain this to you newer gals, cause the REST of these ruffians know it could not POSSIBLY be me).... Ha, ha!

    THIS is me....

    image

And I had to put those stilettos up for the Summer... I now wear Croc's.

Hi Littlepaws...  Yes, we gotta find Cammi....  and Sass....  xoxoxoxo

I will PM cami....I actually live about an hour from her....

    Chevy...REAL nice shoes !!

    Pawprint.thanks for pics..they look great.

Patty, I save pictures to my iPad. You can click on the little icon that looks like a camera, fifth one in from left, and scroll through existing pics.  I download to my I pad from Pinterest...or email stuff to myself. There is a save image you can hit and it puts it in you camera roll on you iPad for easy access. Hope that helps

Smarty..love the party in your pocket :)

Lee, did he look like this?

    image

Did you move out that night? Stay at a hotel ? I would of freaked out.

PattyP. I am on a IPad. I finally figured out how to save images from the Internet, post them. You have to start playing with it. I now change my avatar constantly, cause I am so happy I can.

Morning all.... Chevester, my feet are fine, but I have severe bunions. Big feet, bad shoes over a lifetime. If I need to have it done, I have the out of pocket paid for this year. Not making a appt. anytime soon. Gotta get on with summer. I had Portia popped, Spookie wants to keep hers.

Blessings, beautiful front yard. That's my next project, get a few things switched up in the front of the house.

Tang, hang on for a bumpy pocket party. Chevster will want to show off on her pole, we all are counting on this to get rid of your "aliens".

    Happy Monday to all.

CAMI, hope the Drs. get you fixed up soon. We all miss you !

    Philly, keep us updated....

Oh and Chevy, bush-hogg is when you use a tractor pulling the actual "brush-hog" to mow in places where the grass is very tall!!!  I'll post a pic later today!  I'm sure there is another name for it, "bush-hogging" is just what it's called around here!
