Grateful that i stopped biting my nails after 47 years (gross I know ).
-
2nd time around- congrats to your daughter and your family. Such great news and loved hearing about it here!
-
2nd time: I will keep posting then even though I'm getting lazy after less than 2 weeks. My 14 year old daughter also just finished a week-long internship at a hospital and made a presentation to her class about it. I'm grateful to all the kind people who helped her.
-
thank you all for your good words and kindness! My home life hasn't been the greatest lately, this was a major blessing.
For those of you who have trouble coming up with things to be grateful for, you can try what I did the other day: take 30 minutes if you can (or 10 if that's all you can squeeze in), and just be grateful for all you do have: that you woke up this morning, could get out of bed, no pain, hot water for a shower, clean water for drinking, that I have never experienced a day of hunger, sufficient warm clothes to wear, family members, looking back over my life and all the rough/difficult spots also had a different meaning or lesson (and yes, to both my BC dx's), on and on and on. After, write down as many as you can. Try to come up with 3-5 things to be grateful for every day. It puts a different perspective on the difficult times.
-
This is my first time posting on this thread. Thank you for inviting me 2nd_Time.
I'm thankful that after 10 months on the same job, through a temp service, DH was asked to go online with the company to apply for permanent hiring.
-
My pleasure Soteria! And such wonderful news!!
-
Congratulations, 2nd. That is so awesome!
Welcome Soteria!
Pooh, enjoy the casino buffet.....have them load up on food so that they won't be wanting a midnight snack later!
I am grateful because my 8am Wednesday walking club got to walk outside for the first time this spring!
-
Missed days
Monday - Grateful to have gotten my teen daughter off to school with out either of us being hurt or saying things we shouldn't (rough morning)
Tuesday - Grateful that the sun came out after heavy rains in the AM
Today - Grateful for an uneventful Herceptin infusion today with a really nice nurse
Nel
-
4/9- grateful for a relative easy day at work today!
BTW, there is a great book you might enjoy called The Attitude of Gratitude I found years ago and pull out every once and awhile. It has some little stories that are uplifting and gets you thinking more about doing this all the time, even during the days at are the worst (and yes, it is hard to do this when things are bad and you feel good about nothing!)
I have used it to help me through tough times and shared it with others. I realized today I needed to share this with you and you should be able to find a copy in your local bookstores, if not on line.
Enjoy!
-
Pooh we are heading into Autumn and Winter as you head into Spring and Summer........lol.
Today I'm grateful for anti histamines.......even though it has been raining here for three days and there is no dust what so ever in the air I'm still sneezing like crazy unless I take that little white pill........don't you just love 'em?

Day # 99
Wow, what a busy day here today.
Today I am grateful for way too many things. I am grateful that I had lots of energy left after exercise class. Enough to take the dog for a walk after dinner. Yay me!
And I am grateful to Ruth for getting me in contact with other ladies who are trying this exercise stuff too. Lol
I'm grateful for Maddy's great news. MADDY!!!!! Congrats to your DD. I'm sure you are happy and relieved and even a bit stressed. I'm sure your DD feels the same way. It's absolutely wonderful.
I'm grateful that Cheryl's dance reached showed up so she didn't disappoint her class. AND that she stayed far away from her students.Heidi, I'm grateful that you are still posting! Keep going especially when you aren't feeling grateful. There's always something, dishes done? Half hour with no phone calls? 3 calls in half an hour? There is always something to be grateful for.
Chrissy, I'm grateful you are finally out of that massive heatwave and away from the fires. How cold does 'the land down under' get in winter. Take care of your poor nose.
Jazzy, I'm grateful to you for that book recommendation. I'll have to see if I can get it for Kobo or kindle.
Nel I am also grateful for your DD getting off to school without u exchanging hurtful words. And for your uneventful Herceptin infusion.
Pooh, grateful that you don't have to cook tomorrow!! You could use some time to yourself though, my sister by another mother. Lol
Finally, for today anyway, welcome to Soteria. So very happy to meet you.
Alex where'd you go?
Hugs'n'kisses
Deb

Deb for you our winters would be balmy at between 33 F and 60 F but believe me when Summers are well over the hundred those temps are cold!......lol
-
Jazzy, thanks for the book recommendation, next time DD does an Amazon order will ask her to include it.
Nel, I can so relate to the teenage DD years! Many years of her disappoint aimed at me. Like everyone says, it does get better. Finally, life is turning around for DD and I am not the enemy. How old is she? Please continue doing what you're doing - don't engage and don't take it personally.
Chrissy, your weather sounds like ours, just timing/seasons reversed! We even have the hot devil winds too. Does it rain much in your winters?
Thanks to all (too many to name and am afraid I would leave someone out) for all your kind words! Have finally turned a corner with DD and it feels great not having that anger between us.
-
Wonderful news for you DD Maddy. Today I'm grateful that my little feral kitty has started to come into the house, she still shys away from touch but she rubs up against my leg when I am getting the food ready so progress little by little
-
Day 99: grateful for the good news, blessings and miracles that continue to roll in. Spent the afternoon with the friend whose husband just passed. We've always been friendly, just no deep bond. We went for a bite to eat (I personally think she preferred not eating alone) and she just wanted to have someone to listen without judgement while she talked. I can do that. We live close (like 2 miles apart) so we can meet in the mornings (after DH and DD leave) in our pj's.
Went to the cable/phone/Internet company to pay a bill. Got to chatting with the rep, who looked at my account, cut it by $40/month with faster Internet speed. Cool!
DD's formal letter of acceptance came today. Personalized letter, not form letter. BTW, they have awarded her a nice little scholarship for the years she's there. Still no definitive answer about nursing school but she's ok with that. Oh, and because she is no longer our dependent there's some government financial assistance (FAFSA). A really nice amount!
-
Cheryl, now that IS progress! We have a stray who comes around, had food in my extended arm, didn't go for it, but did lay down to be petted. Still don't know if it's male or female and seems to be making friends with my 2 cats
-
Maddy all the good you have cast out is now coming back to you. We actually have two strays but the other one has to have belonged to someone as he's friendly and likes to be held and this morning when I came out of my bedroom he was sitting in my chair, so he's really made himself at home.
-
thanks, Cheryl, am going to the milk the good as long as I can!
The mental picture of the cat in the chair is cute. Can you post a picture? Just after I read that, DD came down to say good night and said her BF just bought a small chair today from Goodwill for his dog to sit on next to wear BF sits (big bull dog who wants to be a lap dog but too big).
-
Chrissy, I am also grateful for antihistamines. And we may have cause to be even more grateful than for how it helps with hayfever because it might help fight cancer, too. YAY!

DAY 100 .........yippie
Crissyb...Thanks for clearing that up..oopppsi ..... LOL !!!!
Jazzy thanks for the book recommendation
TODAY ON DAY 100 ( its the east coast..i am up early )
I am especially grateful for RED ( my sista from anotha motha ) and this thread that she started.
The day I started posting on this thread was the day I STOPPED digging myself into a mental hole of fear, despair and anxiety ……I slowly dug myself out with each day of gratitude by focusing on the good things .Reading other peoples gratitude posts has also been so very helpful. So thank you to all the gratitude sistas as well .
Never realized how much I had to be grateful for.Focusing on the GOOD THINGS has made a world of difference for me….!
Thank-you Red and gratitude sistas
“Peace is the result of retraining your mindto process life as it is, rather than as you think it should be.”
I may not post for a while ...promised my hubby that id would take a break from the internet for a while after I finished my 100 days of gratitude .... Hubby wants 100 days of no internet
-
I'm grateful to have such a good group of kind and caring women on this thread.
I would like to ask you to remember a special family in your thoughts and prayers. A friend, who was only 45, died unexpectedly. Her children found her dead when they came home from school. The school had called her at 2:30 to ask her to sub the next day, she agreed and was fine. An hour later her kids found her lying there and couldn't get her to wake up. Her husband works with my husband, her parents are my parents neighbors, their pain is so intense. Please say a prayer for her family.
-
Thank you all for making me feel welcome.
Today I'm thankful for Sight, Smell, Sound, Touch, Taste, & LOVE!

Day #100
Oh My Goodness!!! Day 100! Today I am grateful for all of my BCO sistas on this thread. I did have days when it was hard to find something to post, but like Pooh said, reading your posts made me smile. Often I would say, oh yeah, me too.
I am going to continue on with my posting, but I am dropping the math work. I'll just use the date instead, like some of the other girls in the thread.
Maddy, more great news! You deserve it!
Pooh, I'll miss you!
Susie, my prayers are going out to your family and your friend's family.
-
Sending thoughts and prayers your way, Susie. A 49 year old neighbor friend of mine died unexpectedly a couple weeks ago. Very, very hard.
Grateful for another nice day & I am going out for lunch with DS. He is a young adult and I love catching up with what he's been up too.
Grateful that Red is enjoying exercising

Day 100: so grateful to see my DD genuinely happy for a change, it's like her joy has returned. And, after I posted last night, she reminded me she currently gets financial help from the state, and is thinking there might be some more money for her there. Every dollar helps! The realization that she may not have a financial burden when she finishes college makes up for all the hard times she has endured. Oh, she's planning on trying to live in the dorms (after she's never shared a room or a bathroom for the past 10 years, that may be a bit of a shock). If that doesn't play out, her DBF's parents own a house just off campus they rent to the college students and would gladly rent her a room for $300/month (win-win for both as they are planning to move to the east coast as soon as their house here is sold and they trust her to look after it).
I am also very grateful for my personal cheerleaders who have been sending me heart-warming PM's! Thank you, that has meant a lot!
Even though it's Day 100, I plan to continue. Anyone else with me?
-
Me, Maddy!
-
-
Maddy I just got started, so I'm definitely in!
-
4/10- grateful for a good day of energy after a very good night of sleep for a change!
Susie, Ruthbru, I am very sorry about these suddenly losses of these people in your life. Gone too soon. Prayers to you both of you and the families surrounding these unexpected losses.
