Ooohhh...goody, can we watch'em go????

-
C4C - thanks for the dill sauce recipe. Sounds good!! When I was a kid my mom used to buy a dill sauce that came in a bottle. I LOVED it and when her back we turned would eat it by the spoonful!! It was yellow and really sour. Just my cup of tea at the time.
Wish I could find a bottle of it and see if I still would like it. -

I love that!! Opportunitistic puppeteer/war criminal. -

Know its a little early.....but it was ringing out truth loud and clear.

and something nice:

-
Too cute!
-
Aly is in Auckland - the earthquake was way down near Wellington at the bottom of the Nth Island - seems all is OK. I did see a picture of a house damaged near where we stayed in the Sth Island in Feb. There was a tremor there one night while we were in the Marlborough (nice wine) region. They don't call it the Shaky Isles for nothing. And I want to move back there?????
-
Today's new word is............Hodor!
-
On the map you will see Seddon marked - that was near where were staying in Feb. It seems to be the centre of all of the activity recently.
-
SuzieQ - thanks for the down under geography. Appreciate knowing the the odds are high that Alyson is just fine!!
Blue - do you read the Games of Thrones books? Wish Martin would get off his behind and write another one!
-
GG, I hear he's working on it.

Haha love it. Now that's using the Hokey Pokey for good. -
Heard that Obama is putting the solar panels back up at the White House after Ronald Reagan tore them down after Jimmy Carter put them up. Now why oh why would POTUS RR take down solar panels?? That just seems so ill-spirited, wasteful, blah blah, but I guess that is the GOP way. Maybe part of their Take Back America (to the past) and We Love Big Oil memes.
GG - thanks for the recipes. I don't bbq, as I think "smoke" or propane might not be good for me, but I never thought of aluminum foil! I usually make a big tent of aluminan foil, put the salmon in, skin down, plaster it with Costco Pesto and bake for 375 for 35 minutes. Is foil ok if the actual filet doesn't touch it? Butter is a nice idea. Wild Coho fillets, btw, are $15.99 a lb in these parts.
Poor NZ - South Island. How many earthquakes must they endure. Alyson - how is that affecting Christchurch? Are people leaving town?
Rancid P is at it again?
-
Kam - Christchurch is further south and is OK, although they said they felt it in Dunedin - even further south. I must email my cousin in Wellington to see how they are. I remember as a child, we had tremors all the time when we lived in Wellington.
-
Hi all,
Suzie has answered the question about where I am. The new quakes are actually quite severe and very shallow and have caused more damage than first thought. What is worrying is that the quakes seem to be moving up the fault. Like California we have a major plate boundary running through the country and it seems to be on the move at present. The trouble about where the quakes are is that there is a change in movement from slipping like the San Andreas to subduction. So just north of the little town of Seddon the plate has two movements under and along. And our capital sits right on the plate boundary.
My brother felt it in Nelson about 2hours away. they were in the supermarket and things began to fall off the shelves. SiL says she has felt lots and t56hat the ground is still fluid.
I have been in a couple bigger quakes, one years ago when I was teaching in Wellington; scary stuff as I had a class of five year olds. Our school building was badly damaged but it was a very old building.I don't like quakes.
Where we live is on an old volcanic field so I don't know what is worse.

Yeah - The All Blacks won the first match against the Aussies!!!
ETA - the All Blacks are the New Zealand rugby union football team and yes I go for them every time.
-
Alyson, My thoughts are with you. Stay safe. New Zealand is such a wonderful and beautiful country. I hate to see this happening.
-
Kam, why didn't Clinton put them back up? Maybe he did and Dimson took them down? I can't remember. But come to think of it, Bush the Dumber had solar in his Texas ranch, I BELIEVE.

-
Actually W did put some solar up, just not on the White House proper. They were elsewhere on the grounds. One of the few things I had to give him props for.
-
RR, I do remember that was one of the sensible things he did. I guess nobody is all bad.
-
yorkie - tee, hee.....Dimson. Boy, I love the good things I learning reading this thread

Seriously, don't know what I"d do for smiles, and gorgeous pics of flowers gardens if I wasn't here. Dimson...Sunday chinese breakfast will never be the same...NZ - stay safe. earthquakes, floods - the floods in CO are all in places where the fires were, now floods & mud slides. Idaho on FIRE. I'm going out into the sunshine, Berkshire breezes, to sit in my Amish made rocking chair and GIVE THANKS for another day. Hope all are safe, warm ( not too hot...makes me think of course of Our Lionness under her acaia tree) dry ( but not too dry) and grateful for today.
-
Sunny, it was one of my fav nicknames for the warmonger in chief during his 8 year reign of terror. I practically lived on a very left wing blog during that time. Being able to rant there with like minded folk probably saved my sanity, oh wait...
-
Meant to thank Jackie for that adorable dog in the mug. I WANT HER!!!
Just got this in an email, it is FASCINATING: http://twistedsifter.com/2013/08/maps-that-will-help-you-make-sense-of-the-world/
Much too long to post here, and of course, I still don't know how to post pics...ah, well...FOLLOW LINKY ABOVE

-
Love that site Sunny. Thanks for the link. So many cool demographics presented on maps! Ok, limited to my iPhone at moment, so some of the legends were difficult to see wo going to link. Is it actually true that our beloved Canadians drink more coffee than those in the US??
-
Time constraints.....all I got to do was peek at Sunny's link.....I'm going back for mor later.

-
Kam -- We don't really do the "iced tea" thing here. Coffee is pretty much a staple, and iced coffee is catching on fast.

Twisted Sifter is a terrific site -- thanks for leading us to it, Sunny!

My favorite name for Bush the Dumber is "Shrub." It was given to him by the late great Molly Ivins.
-
CherrylH - "Bush the Dumber" just cracked me up!
