    Sorry I wasn't around Friday.

    Spent the better part of Firday and Saturday helping people catch fish out of their ponds.  My hips are so sore I can hardly do anything calorie burning.  I feel like I have gained and I am disgusted with myself.

    OK, Meece - explain.  Catching fish?  Is this akin to fishing?  Or work related?  I'm so confused!

    Also, I'm convinced that some hip pain is actually referred SI joint pain - not all, but certainly some.  Gotta pay attention to that sacrum - sometimes an adjustment can heal the hip pain.  Hope it get better.  Sorry you're feeling disgusted - I imagine that's a common feeling for most of us - I have this horror/disgust/disbelief thing that goes on when I get a side view in the mirror.  I can pretend it's not too bad when I'm full front, but side grosses me out.  So what do I do about that?  It plays bad tapes in my head.

    I am involved in a club for the koi keeping hobby.  Koi are the ornamental Japanese fish you see in garden ponds.  When people in the community can no longer care for their koi, are moving from their homes, or have too many koi in their pond, they call our club and we go to their home and catch them, quarantine them and treat them for paracites, then sell them at fundraisers for the club.  It's fairly easy to catch them from ponds the size of a soaking tub, but many of our rescues are in swimming pool sized ponds.  It takes muscles to maneuver a net on a ten ft. pole around and bring up a 20" long fish.

    I agree about the side view.  I seem to been swelling right now.  My ankles and hands are swelling.  So I am going to work on cutting out salt or at least reducing it.

    3 pts for Friday check in

    no wt loss but no wt. gain (? pts)

    Not getting to drink water (not getting to drink much of anything on day shift at work LOL)  all I do is flipping run up and down those darn halls with that 50 lb med cart or answering lights)  I mean I never, ever, never sit down on day shift.)  You would think I would be dropping 5 lbs a week.  Also not getting to eat anything at work.  Geesh!! But my legs and feet are swelling from being on them so much.... UGH!!!!!!!!

    3 pts for Friday - I'm still awake, that counts for me!

    I've been working on the water; I think I made 7 this week

    Weight up, darn it

    Exercise - pretty darn limited - installation week - carrying artwork, swinging a hammer, walking a bunch - 8 pts

    RoadRunner checking in:

     Friday Check in = 0 points , overslept had to rush to work ;)

    Weight 224# = 1 points

    Water = 7 points

    Exercised =  5 points

    Extra Credit--= 1 point  keeping on top of the cold, so far not triggering the asthma

    Total =  14 points

    Mimi--maintaining weight is good for 1 point!  But you make a good point about health care work.  We don't get to drink like we should, but since we don't get to take bathroom breaks like we should that sorta evens out.  We don't get to sit down or take a break like other people and end up with swollen feet and legs.  Great role models, aren't we?  Not that we have much choice in the matter.

    Bookart--really think there is way more to weight management than calories in and calories out.  Too many times we do everything "right" and still don't lose weight.  Of course, muscle weighs more than fat, so if you are converting fat to muscle you are getting healthier but the scale may be showing an increase.  We need a better way to measure this whole thing!

    I'm a little frustrated! my weight has fluxed back up by 2.5 lbs to 155 ugh!!! I am retaining fluid I guess since being on days I don't have time to drink, drink, drink or even go to the bathroom.  There are days I go to the "potty" lol, before I leave home and never go again till I return home... there simply isn't time to go at work.  Very bad for my kidneys I know.  But what to do?! I am simply too busy tring to find a rhythm to all the day shift madnes LOL!! I don't even get to take a break or eat lunch.  I'll probably get in trouble for not clocking out for lunch yesterday, but what's a girl to do? I mean my day was chaos. By the time I get home my legs have 1-2+ pitting edema in them from not even having time to sit down during the day at work and of course not having time to drink anything either.  Oh well hopefully it will get better in a few weeks.

    oh my gosh, Mimi, that is not good! You need to take care of yourself, girl. Is this the new standard for healthcare? It sounds like they need to hire some more staff! Take care...

    I'm going to be away from a scale on Friday, so I will take the hit on points and hopefully not gain. I'll check in later in the weekend.

    zogo, I think you should earn the 3 points anyway because you are reporting now that you can't make it.  It's not as though you forget.

    mimi1964, I also say you need to take the time to think about yourself.  You won't be any good to your patients if you simply collapse from overwork.  Even if you only take 5 mins every hour to rest, you will be more valuable to yourself and others.  Bottom line, you have to make the commitment to take care of you because no one else is going to do it.  So there, did I beat you up enough?

    ((Renee)), how about compression stockings?  One of the girls who started chemo same month as me is in health care and on her feet for hours on end.  She wore them and it helped.

    I worked through lunch myself today so cannot chide you.

    Did have a nice bowl of homemade soup for supper, though...

    I agree with Patoo, Zogo.  Take the 3 points for a Friday report since you aren't just forgetting but will be away from the scale.

    Mimi-I hear you about working straight through a shift.  I used to say I was going to take up smoking because the staff who smoked ALWAYS got their breaks, no matter what amount of chaos was going on.  Hopefully you'll find your rhythm soon!

    Roadrunner checking in

    3 pts for Friday check in

    0 pts for weight gain - 224.2 - my long thursday strikes again

    7 pts for water - moved a 2 gallon jug of spring water into my office - even if I can't get off my chair, I can make sure I drink

    Started a green day/red day chart - green for 30 minutes of exercise, or good food choices; red for no exercise or poor food choices.  So far, 2.5 red days to 1.5 green days.  Maybe this will help me visualize it.

    1 pt for exercise.  Sad.  Realized that I rely on my partner to set the pace of the day when I'm off - and she's been sick and not up to exercise, and also doing a lot of sit-down studying.  So I do a lot of sit-down reading and no exercise.  I'm going to have to do it for myself.  Sigh.  Each of these realizations help me a tiny bit.

    Thanks, Badger, for the extra point giggle.

    I see a total so far of 73, we know Patoo has at least 3, so we have a minimum of 76 points.  Not bad for rainy, snowy, yucky weather and long Thursdays and slow pace-setting partners.

    Bookart--I like the red days/green days idea, I'm visual too, and something like that would be helpful for me, too!  Just got to figure out how to do it on my work calendar without raising a lot of questions. . .

    Hey, I like that red/green system, too. I specifically need it for my exercise!

    I'm on another site where you count the day's in a row you are MoMD (Master of My Domain). If you cheat on what you agreed not to eat, then your counter goes back to zero. Today, I am MoMD, Day #50. Plus, if you think you might cheat, you can call it out a day in advance and not advance the counter (and not set it back to zero).

    Took DD on a college tour to see R.I.T.. Did lots of walking. But, the food in the cafeteria was horrendous (except for the salad bar). And I wasn't up to par on my water. ('cause then I'd need to find a potty!)

    Thanks for the generosity on the Friday points. I'll use them, since we need them as a collective, too!

    Friday ~ 3 pts

    Weight ~ down 170.2 ~ 2 pts

    Water ~ 5 pts

    Exercise ~ 10 pts

    Ex Cred ~ 1 pt Turned down cookies, cake and candies

    Total ~ 21 pts

    NM, for some reason, I picture you with a daily Maxine calendar on your desk.  You could color her coffee cup red or green depending on the day.  Wink

    Elaine, it sounds like you have a physically-demanding job so (like Renee) I think you probably give yourself too few exercise points.  At any rate, IMO your red/green idea is worth an extra point.

    And that makes 77 so we only need 23 more to reach 100.  Oh, Jane just posted with 21 so we're up to 98 ~ YAY ~ so close!  Hopefully Meece and Renee will check in yet this week.

    BTW, new ladies are always welcome!  The more the merrier!  You get points for healthy behaviors so it's motivating and fun.  And you don't have to give your weight if you don't want to.  Sealed
